  1. I wonder if they altered that in consideration of the little girl actress? Scene is similar enough for viewers without having the girl have to witness quite what the character does in the books?
  2. Loved it! Can’t wait to rewatch. Always felt so sad in the book about the rift between Jenny and Claire and did here as well. Love Ned Gowan back again. Love that we got a lovely full episode at Lallybroch before we bid fairwell to Scotland. So sad to see the end of our time (for the most part) there. Looking forward to seeing Fraser’s ridge someday, although I know there is a lot of living between now and then. Thought they did a good job compressing stuff. Not sure how I felt about the change in the strapping scene actually, because although Jamie never takes a strap to Claire again, he is a man of his times and believed in it. But not a hill I will die on, just suprised. I loved the Hogmanay flashback. And loved meeting all Jenny and Ian’s kids. So much to enjoy here. Loved that Jamie and Claire got so much out. Loved the flashback to Jamie on the island. And even though I have read the books many times, my heart was in my throat when Jamie and Claire were helplessly watching Ian on the island. Now go get wee Ian and give Ron his ship scenes. I swear I picture a gleeful little boy right now. Lol.
  3. I believe so. She has been on a few times this season now.
  4. So I see they have Jackie on today (behind the scenes cooking stylist). Young, personable, fun. I’m watching now and she is talking about doing cooking competitions. Obviously has some talent. I wonder if there is a chance they will ask her to become a cohost? She doesn’t have the cache that the rest have of course, but Daphne didn’t either. I think some youth and another woman would be a nice add and I could get on board with her.
  5. Oh good catch! Love all the details this production team puts in. Not to mention, any difference in fashion could be attributed to where she has been being slightly different. Aka, “it’s french” lol
  6. I learned in the first season that I need to watch each episode 3x to appreciate it. The first viewing I mostly seem to notice what is different/missing from what I expect. The second viewing is with my husband and I think I focus on his reaction (non book reader) and notice things I may have missed or not appreciated the first time. The third viewing I usually settle in and enjoy and see what tptb accomplished.
  7. I agree with so much that is being said. That breathing room is important. I often wonder if tptb confuse the fans clamor for more intimacy with the idea that intimacy = sex. I want to see those emotional moments. I am probably one of the few that would be fine if the sex scenes faded to black. Don’t get me wrong, I love their passion and applaud so many of the scenes like the pregnancy one in France that actually shows her belly, the one in the first ever ep with Claire pushing frank down, and of course the wedding...all the wedding! But the wedding was fabulous because of the intimacy and emotional beats allowed. And I loved their connections in this episode...the tentative start and the reconnection is important. But I’d be good with a little less time with the sex and more for the connection with their Bree conversation.
  8. I’m not sure I needed Sam/Jamie to break down. I think more I would have liked a beat talking about Bree and her interests and personality more than we got. I am fine with the Willie add, but needed a minute or 2 more.
  9. Did anyone find today’s show...off? I love our hosts, love Martina, Ree I used to enjoy her blog years ago and sometimes catch her show. Everything just seemed flat today. First time I wondered if it’s the beginning of the end. Which is too bad if so. The world kind of sucks right now in so many ways, I have really enjoyed this show as a break from reality and I have learned so much watching them.
  10. Oh my that really was amazing!!!!!
  11. That’s a good point. And honestly I would think Claire would consider herself almost overdressed/modest for breakfast at a brothel! She probably assumed not a lot of (if any) customers at that hour and she was heading to a behind the scenes area like the kitchen. In my mind I always figured she used a back staircase even. It also was definitely reminiscent of the wedding search for food. I like to think Claire is always comfortable in her own skin and was still in that post coital bliss phase where she is probably not quite thinking on all cylinders....
  12. And let’s not forget, not a lot of sun damage likely in Scotland! Lol
  13. People back then didn’t need fitness routines, their lifestyles were built in fitness routines. Looking youthful is often just the luck of the draw or genes...my mom has fabulous skin and I lucked out and inherited it. I also drink a ton of water and eat healthfully. Claire always seemed health conscious when it comes to food, and she passed that along to Jamie. Nutrition helps. And yeah, Jamie had a hellish life and could be quite wearing but men tend to look younger longer than women do, their hormone changes don’t play the same havoc with skin, and theirs is thicker and all that. I know I’m in a mood about it. I must be on my way to becoming a crabby old lady. Lol
  14. I am so done with all the griping about the actors and how they haven’t aged then enough. Maybe I’m just sensitive because my husband and I are the ages Claire and Jamie are supposed to be this season. I certainly don’t think we look decrepic! I do see a wide range among our friends of those who look older and younger but my god. I actually think they have done a great job showing 40-something Claire and Jamie! Think of some famous actors like Cate Blanchette, Amy Adams, Sandra Bullock, Gwyneth Paltrow., all look fabulous and none ready for the home yet. Same with actors like Matt Damon, Ewan McGregor, Keanu Reeves. Ok, rant over. Sorry if I offended. I’m just in a mood about it. And I honestly see such a huge difference between the first season Jamie and Claire and this one. I think they are all knocking it out of the park. As for the episode, I loved the opening (sans Mme Jeanne), loved that we got so much from the book. But I do wish they had taken a bit more of a beat when Jamie looked at Bree’s pics. I think they tried...showing him with the first picture and having to take a seat like his legs were giving way and he needed to just be there to go through them. But I missed the gasp when he saw them in color. I wanted the kiss from Bree. I wanted just a bit more. I loved the Faith reference, and actually would have been fine if he brought up Willy during the same scene, but I really just wanted a bit more of his time learning about his daughter. And the pantless Jamie after the ale pot spill made him look like a hobbit. I seriously almost called my hobbit obsessed 13 year old son to come see him when he was sitting there. Normally hobbit is not what I think of when I see Jamie! Lol. I really missed Ian’s horror about Claire knowing his father when he thinks she’s a whore. Loved that they kept the whore’s breakfast. Loved the incredible sets and costumes and just how gorgeous everything is filmed. Loved that quick intro to Fergus and trying not to be bummed it was so random on the street meeting. Thought it was weird that Claire was telling about BPC so publicly. Just felt strange to me. Loved their initial awkwardness together. Missed the “take me as the man I am” line a lot. But I still have my books.... Overall I am loving this season and look forward to watching it all as a whole. I am very curious as to what of the wackadoodle stuff they keep and what they get rid of. And while I am trying not wish time away, I’m already excited for next season!
  15. I think Michigan is where he gets away from it all. Maybe that’s why? I’m wondering why he is away so much since the start of the season. Has it always been like this but less noticeable since Daphne was there? Or is he getting ready to split too?
  16. I don’t blame Jenny at all. She doesn’t know Loaghaire well if at all, and doesn’t know about her role in the witch trial or really anything. She sees a woman who is alone with small children, she sees Jamie alone and hurting. What Jenny does is to try to heal her brother, and to help out a widow.
  17. I will admit I thought the same thing when they settled at Fraser’s ridge, although at the time they didn’t have a lot of choices and since Bree was safely in the 20th century and there was no thought she would come to the ridge and raise a family, I honestly don’t think Claire was all that concerned about life beyond her lifetime. They were also busy trying to walk that tightrope that was the Revolution. I think they really were looking for a safe haven away from as much as possible, to create their own utopia. Claire does refer to not knowing a lot of American history and at one point kicks herself for not paying more attention when Bree was studying. She assumed she would never need it, what with Jamie’s seasickness. I have no doubt with her return through the stones she figured on living out her days in Scotland. As for why Diana chose North Carolina, that makes sense because so many Scot’s did settle there.
  18. I listened to them yesterday and really enjoyed their insights and info they shared. Their joy and enthusiasm for the show is appreciated! I loved how they considered doing a bit of the freedom trail. Would have been interesting! But loved the episode and how it went. Definitely loved the bit about the pick up with Bree. I thought Sophie was stronger this ep and have great hope for her next season. I am off to drive a bunch of kids to MIT and then will be walking around Harvard square and Boston before heading back home. Will be thinking of Outlander in Boston (or “Boston”) while I am!
  19. Was Bonnet blond? I always picture him with dark hair. It’s been a while since I read the books with him in it....at least not his sections. Gag.
  20. I too am laughing at Jimmy the footman as Stephen Bonnet. Will show great range for the actor if he pulls it off. And since I’ve loved 85-90% of the cast chosen I have high hopes! I do still think that what’s-his-name Irish guy that tried to blackmail Jamie/Ian killed in season one would have made an excellent Bonnet!
  21. I think for me when I started reading the books 10 years ago I did because a friend gave me the first one. I struggled through it to be honest. But st the end thought it was a good story if nothing else. Parts fascinated me, parts annoyed me, but I found by the end I was engaged. I didn’t continue reading the rest for a while because I didn’t realize it was a series at first. Eventually I did and started picking my way through them and I have come to the conclusion that for me they have their faults but overall tell a rip roaring story! I find myself re-reading them from time to time, and have read most of the novellas and Lord John stories as well. I guess to answer your question, should you read them, I would say why not? I would start with Voyager and read in order personally. If you decide to quit, quit. The only downside is a bit of time reading, right? If you want, wait till this season is over to start. Some people like being surprised by what happens on tv so if you fit that bill, hold off on the next book until after season 4. I find I enjoy the tv series and the books as long as I don’t re-read the book prior to the series. I have favorite parts that strangely tptb often interpret differently. Lol. So i relax more and enjoy the show’s interpretations as long as I don’t hold them so close. And as Diana says, the books are the books, the show is the show. They are the same but they are different. I still see my book people/places as I originally envisioned them vs how the show does.
  22. I think Starz/Outlander should do a Christmas episode each year. Just a one off type thing, maybe a 2 or 3 hour special that covers some Outlander side stories/novellas. Not realistic I know, but wouldn’t that be fun?
  23. Yes! I was watching that thinking the same thing and wishing we could see the novellas and all the side stories adapted as well. Too much to ask for I know, but still would be nice.
  24. Finished my rewatch and just really loved this episode even more than before. Sophie was stronger so I have hope for the future. Rik is amazing as always. Joe is great, and I think he does a good accent! As before, LOVED the final scene. I’ve had a really crappy day after weeks/months of stress and damn is this show helping keep the sun shining!
