  1. Since all the soap mags are rolling out their Best and Worst lists this time of year, I thought it would be fun if we here at Previously.TV did so too! Post your pics for Best Actor, Actress, Story, etc., commentary optional. I'll get us started with the categories I thought up, feel free to add more categories or ignore categories as you wish. If you don't feel like picking Bests and Worsts but instead would like to comment on others choices, that's cool too. (Just remember to critique the choices, not the chooser. :) ). It was really tough for me to pick a "Best" in many categories this year - not because there was plethora of choices, but because so many of my "Bests" actually were "Least Worsts". (Although there was one "Best" that truly was "Best"). I had the exact opposite problem with the "Worsts" categories for the most part - so many candidates vying for the bottom of the barrel, so little space to list them all... So with that in mind, here is my picks for "Best and Worst of GH for 2014": BEST ACTOR William de Vry The best of a bad lot. No matter what kind of crap story he got handed, he consistently delivered. BEST ACTRESS Maura West The best of a good lot. Most of the ladies came through this year - even Laura Wright, who's character was despicable, put over her part with conviction. But Ms. West was a class above this year. WORST ACTOR (Tie)Tony Geary/Maurice Bernard/Jason Thompson/Roger Howarth Which was worst this year? The crappy accent? The incessant stutterbarking? The lack of eye contact couple with the somnabulent line delivery and substituting a "Duh?" face for actual emoting? Or the clowning and snarking through scenes that were supposed to be played straight and serious? I pronounce it a tie! To add insult to injury, all four of these gentlemen are capable of so much better then what they delivered. and, to add injury to insult, all four of them are on probably on the Emmy pre-nom short list for this show, while far more consistently excellent performers (see above) get ignored. Rage blackout in 3...2...1... WORST ACTRESS Kristin Alderson In all fairness, she wasn't all that bad. It's just that she wasn't all that good either. And, given the massive amount of hype and screen time she receives, "not all that bad" just doesn't cut it. BEST CHARACTER (Tie) Dante/Silas/Morgan What tied all these characters together to make them the best was the fact that, for the most part, they were all good guys. Sure, they had their flaws - Dante cut his loathesome father far too much slack, Silas was a sucker for a damsel in distress, and Morgan was a dimwit, but their hearts were all in the right places and when the chips were down, they all strove to do the right thing. WORST CHARACTER Levi Whether passing himself off as a goofball guru or revealing himself to be the vengeance-obsessed son of whoever-the-hell-that-one-guy-was, this character was a dud from the word "Go". The actor portraying him tried his best, but Daniel Day-Lewis himself would not have been able to save this character. We can only be thankful RC had enough sense to cut his losses with this terrible character and kill him off. BEST STORY The Downfall of Sonny and Carly Sure, it was only a temporary blip in their obnoxiously charmed lives, and it won't stick, but while it lasted, watching Sonny and Carly's worlds go up in flames when the truth about who killed A.J. came out was deeply satisfying. For me, the most satisfying moment came when Michael uttered the words we've waited almost decades to hear - "My real name. Michael Quartermaine". But a close second was Sonny finally getting hauled off to the Big House - there to be beaten up repeatedly by everybody. A storyline to be savored. WORST STORY The Levi Saga The setup was weak, the payoff was stupid, the nods to history were sloppy and slapdash, and the villains motivations made even less sense than villain's motivations on GH usually do - which is saying a lot. And even Judge Cockblocker was a better obstacle to the True Love than horrible, terrible, no-good Levi. Just a loser of a story from the jump. BEST COUPLE Julian and Alexis It says something that the one pairing that really worked in 2014 was the one RC had to be forced into writing. But, unlike so many pairings on the canvas this year (Michale/Kiki, I'm looking at you), there was genuine attraction and chemistry with Julian and Alexis. While other couples sex scenes looked like the actors in question were filming them at gunpoint, Julexis looked like they actually physically enjoyed each other. Alas, this being General Ron-spittle, the two were broken up by Christmas, but they were hot while they lasted. WORST COUPLE Franco and Carly Ah, so many candidates for this category... Michael and Kiki... Morgan and Kiki... Sonny and Ava, the CryptSex Couple...the Kiddie Quad...Maxie and Levi... But the the couple that really captured the prize for jaw-dropping, eye goggling, gobsmacking stupidty was was Franco and Carly. Even Carly Haters couldn't buy the depth of contemptibility Carly had to display to be in love with Franco, the man responsible for the rape of her son. What, she fell for him because he was the only man in Port Charles she didn't have to lean down to kiss? She should have been ceaselessly plotting to bring him down, not marrying him! While this misbegotten romance did have the great payoff of the HalloWedding, the destination just wasn't worth the journey. The only thing worse than a Franco/Carly pairing would have been Franco/Sam... and I'll shut up now before Ron gets ideas...
  2. He did the same thing with TeCa during Patrina. I figured it was just another one of his, "If the story I am being asked to play doesn't completely enthrall me, I'll tank it" tactics.
  3. Ooops, sorry about the misquote. Hard to keep track of who said what sometimes.
  4. I thought it was the daughter that was the drunk driver. And just think, while Patrick is smooching it up with Sam, his wife is getting extra electroshock for Christmas! It's just soooooooo romantic! (Except not). On the other hand, if Patrick and Sam are kissing, a Robin appearance is sure to be on the horizon. Since the "interrupted wedding" thing has already been done, I predict that Robin will escape and make her way back to Port Charles just in time to walk in on Samtrick fucking. Don't be giving Ron ideas. Don't forget he ran after Sabrina - twice - before he finally went back to the sloppy seconds love of his life to tell her he chose her. Yup. I liked how Monica saved the day at the hospital Christmas party. I kept hoping she would then sit down and tell the Christmas story. Hope everyone has fantastic Christmas/Thursday!
  5. Maurice Bernard is coming up on his third decade of being on GENERAL HOSPITAL. "Cut your fucking losses" has never been a thing that GH does.
  6. Me too! :) That was based on a true story. I believe Ann Rule wrote a book about the case. Actually, I found Molly's behavior today to be 100% realistic for a teenager. They are not known for their sensitivity to the feelings of others. I have been hoping for this twist to happen since Day One. Make it happen Ron, make it happen! But on the other hand, he does make it worth watching. I like the idea of the retcon where it turns out that A.J. really is the father of baby Not Jamie. Michael could raise his sister with Monica's help, and some good would have come out of the tragedy of A.J.'s death. As far as the prison story goes, if Sonny is going to be large and in charge again, back to the barge I go.
  7. I loved it as well. Especially since Sonny was all, "I guess I should act upset or something over my brother being dead, oh I know, I'll use my little toothbrush thingy to threaten Johnny with", and how Johnny didn't look scared at all. Then Sonny's Big Man act gets stuffed... AGAIN... I can't help it, every time Sonny loses an angel gets it's wings. I also had to giggle at Gabriel's big, manly gun. My mind flashed back to those little itty bitty numbers Sonny always held in his (shaking) hands and... let's just say I drew the proper conclusions. Hee! I thought it was significant that, when Sam said Molly would need her whole family to help her through this difficult time, she looked straight at Julian. It read to me like she was including him in to the family. I thought it was a nice touch.
  8. Inaugural balls and swearingin ceremonies happen in January, since that is when the terms the elected officials are serving begin. So there's really no point to the recount - Felicia could have won and then we could have (intermittently) heard about the upcoming inaugural ball.
  9. From the Backstage thread: Sabrina should also get a shot in as well, because he treated her terribly too. That's one thing that says to me that Patrick is real protected pet in all these stories. No matter how awfully he treats the women he gets involved with, they all forgive him and swoon over him. I was honestly shocked that Sam didn't forgive him straight off, we had to wait a few days for the inevitable, "I'm so sorry I got angry with you for ENTIRELY LEGITIMATE REASONS, Patrick. let's be [fuck]buddies again." He really is getting to be just like Sonny - no one is allowed to stay mad at him, ever. Now that you mention it, KeMo would have a pretty good choice as a Brenda recast.
  10. I really don't buy this notion that Sabrina was this massively unpopular character and Patrina this massively unpopular pairing line that TWoP types like to push. Outside of TWoP, Patrina had a good-sized fanbase - maybe not supercouple sized, but fairly healthy. Some of them would even show up on TWoP to let the posters there know, in no uncertain terms, that they supported the couple. (With massively amusing results). Ron was peeved because a certain fan segment - Scrubs fans mostly - reacted with extremely loud condemnation to the pairing. If this had been Guza, he would have happily pitted the two fanbases against each other - hey, I've got a Liz vs. Sam 2.0 going, can't let this golden opportunity slide! Ron, on the other hand, reacted by doing interviews painting the Scrubs fans who were complaining as basically crazy bullies. (You can imagine how great that went over). I don't think it's an accident that Sabrina is still on canvas. My guess is she's being kept around so that when the whole Jason reveal comes down and Samtrick break up, Patrick will reunite with her. (I also think that's why TPTB always make sure to script a Patrick/Sabrina scene every once in a while, to reassure their fanbase that they are not over). Great, now I've got this stuck in my head... ;) One of the very earliest posters here mentioned this, but I have to repeat it - RC is doing with Robin what Guza did with Brenda, to much the same effect.
  11. Yeah, that was an eyeroll moment for me as well. The worst is that now TIIC will be all, "Look at how incredibly popular Spencer is! SOD named him Most Entertaining Character!* Clearly we need to up his screentime!" Which is just... ugh. * - There is always the hope that GH fans inundate SOD with letters and e-mails about this with one word emphasized, "No", thus killing that line of thought straight off.
  12. Yeah, when I heard Carly say that, my first thought was, "Project much?" Was Nina ever filled in on Franco's antics pre-tumor? I don't recall any scenes of her being informed of that or discovering it. I figured that, as far as she knows, Franco is just that nice art therapist that everybody hates for some reason who helped her out. So why not ask a well known defense lawyer to defend him? If Nina has known all along about Franco's actions re: Sam, then, yeah, not only is the request sick it's likely to backfire as well. But if she is in the dark about that aspect of his backstory it's just an innocent mistake.
  13. As I pointed out in another thread, A.J. was on canvas then. He and Carly could have had a bout of hatesex.
  14. In all fairness, you can say the exact same thing about the men on the show. There are days when Spencer comes off as the most mature person in Port Charles.
  15. Most recent edition of SOD is "Best and Worst of 2014". Here's what GH got: Saddest Twist: Gabriel Dies Best Secret: Sonny Killed A.J. "For many fans, his [Michael's] taking of the Quartermaine name was a moment of justice 17 years in the making." Most Preposterous Plot: Helena, Jason, and Stavros are alive Best Triangle: Nathan/Maxie/Levi Best Breakup: Carly and Franco Worst Breakup: Patrick and Robin Best Casting Coups: Donna Mills, Michaelle Stafford, Billy Miller Most Entertaining Character: Spencer Biggest Lothario: Sonny Best New Character: Jordan Most Entertaining Show
  16. What kills me is that everybody else believed it - even Edward, who was right there and heard A.J. cry out "Carly!" in horror as he saw her fall down the stairs. Because guys who fling women down staircases always call out afterwards, or some such hooey. I always had my doubts that Sonny believed A.J. threw her - him saying he believed it always came off as a tactical decision rather than a deeply held belief to me. But this was really the beginning of the end for any fair writing for A.J. and also the beginning os Sonny and Carly eating the show and turning into the vile, hypocritical, monumental assholes we all know and hate today.
  17. I was sick and tired of it by 2003. Probably because he is a douche. This gives me hope that we will see Jason remembering his criminal past with horror, rejecting Jason Morgan, and once again being Jason Quartermaine. It would be fitting if Michael reached out to him and helped him to reintegrate into the family. I didn't think today's show was awful (except for the horrible bitchfight scene, just YUCK!!!), rather it was kind of... easily skippable.
  18. Here's the video of A.J. and Carly and the fateful encounter on the stairs... which clearly shows that A.J. DID NOT THROW HER DOWN THE STAIRS!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iA9b5s7t4eA#t=275 What really sticks out to me in this scene is when A.J. says to Carly, "I feel so much guilt for giving Michael you for a mother..." and then proceeds to lay some very painful truths on Carly. Firstly, because of the way the incomparable Sarah Joy Brown reacts - she just winds up into this ball of hurt and rage in reaction, you can see he's cut her down to the bone with that comment. Secondly, because it seems to me if RC really did want to honor GH history the way he claims, he'd have a scene where Michael confronts Carly on a stairs and tells her, "The only thing my father did wrong was give me you as a mother ". Of course, rather than a dramatic tumble at the end of the scene, Michael walks off and leaves Carly to chew on the bitter realization that karma is indeed a bitch.
  19. LOVE!!!! Not until after Sonny does. Priorities!! ;) This. I was just about to jump in and inform people that SoapZone is hangout for the once-mighty Sonny fanbase*, and they've been concocting these fake-ass, "Sonny didn't really kill A.J. (who was fat and totally deserved to die)!!!" so-called "spoilers" for months now. * - Seriously, it's almost sad how the Sonny fans have dwindled down to almost nothing on these websites. I remember a time when the consolidated Sonny threads at the 'Zone could easily go to about 300 posts per episode from as many posters, now it's just the same dozen people endlessly circle-jerking over Sonny Corinthos. That, and the fact that Sonny's downfall resulted in a nice bump in the ratings, gives me hope we may someday be shut of that horrible, horrible character.
  20. And decades between killing babies! But a rape approximately every other month. Things weren't always better in the days of yore. Ever since he turned against Sonny, it's like every time Michael comes on screen he does something awesome. Loved the horror-stricken look on Morgan's and Kiki's faces when they realized they may have to - GASP! - get jobs! Oh, how I wished when Carly delivered her "Oh, when are you going to let go of your anger?" line, that Michael would have replied, "When I get my father, A.J., back." A close second to the awesomeness of Michael today was Silas. He is really shaping up to be the next Mac, a decent, compassionate guy who tries to help people instead of shooting them. He looked in on Nina AND Ava today! {{{{{{{{{{Silas!!!}}}}}}}}}}}} Finally, I am so pleased to see how much BM has improved the role of Jason. It was such a pleasure watching somebody who could actually put over an emotion and deliver lines believably and with conviction. I kept thinking of how his scenes would have gone down with SBu in the role: SAM: "I don't care how much you protest your innocence, I know it was you!!!" JASON: ::Looks constipated:: Later, Jason tries to remember if it really was him that grabbed Sam. JASON: ::Looks constipated:: We've finally gotten a real actor playing the role. PRAISE JAYSUS!!!!
  21. I was thinking that the baby getting sick was a setup for Sabrina to use her nursing skills at some crisis point to save it's life, and therefore redeem herself for the brief turn to the dark side she took. C'mon, you know it's true. He could reignite his old love affair with Monica... Clearly the only thing left for him is suicide. ;)
  22. IIRC, Billy Warlock as A.J. was still on the show at that point. I'd love a retcon where it turns out that A.J. and Carly had a secret bout of hatesex and the result was Morgan.
  23. And we all saw how Robin's loyalty towards Sonny was rewarded. "Escort Miss Scorpio home."
