  1. R.I.P. L. Q. Jones If you watch old Western TV shows or movies you've seen him often. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/l-q-jones-dead-wild-bunch-peckinpah-1235177736/
  2. Worse part is after eating the ice cream you'll still have the munchies.
  3. Wasn't Patsy Baloney a character in "Goodfellas"?
  4. Tonight TCM is showing a variety of Rock and Roll movies starting with "A Hard Days Night." I love how obvious it is that the Beatles were really having fun being the Beatles.

  6. FBI's file on The Fugs called them the "Most vulgar thing the human mind could possibly conceive." https://www.vice.com/en/article/bj7x85/fbi-foia-the-fugs-the-doors-v24n8
  7. I'd suggest the difference was that "Light My Fire" was released in Jan. 1967 while "Psychedelic Shack" was a hit in 1970. A lot of changes in what was acceptable occurred between those dates. I'm not sure if Morrison was particularly high, or that was just his style. I did like the guy from Vanilla Fudge mentioning The Fugs! Definitely sounds like Bizarre Bazaar. Haven't thought of that place in a few years.
  8. Could have been interesting, but it wasn't. Ryan Seacrest, really? Kelly Ripa was a terrible host.
  9. It appears INSP is returning "Alias Smith & Jones" to their Saturday morning lineup. Don't know if they are dropping their late-night Saturday showings. Just a little less James Arness, thank God. _______________________________________________ Next Sun. July 17, Ed Sullivan has another pretty good selection of songs: West Coast Rock (s1, ep20) The Byrds - "Turn, Turn, Turn"; The Mamas & The Papas - "California Dreaming"; The 5th Dimension - "California Soul"; The Turtles - "She'd Rather Be With Me"; The Friends of Distinction - "Grazing In The Grass"; The Beach Boys - "I Get Around".
  10. I have to say the Duck Duck Go "Every Breath You Take" ad is getting annoying (it's getting way too much play).
  11. If you are lucky, you might find someplace near you that does Chicago-style Italian beef. I suggest getting the sandwich dipped ("wet") and with sweet peppers and giardiniera.
  12. I was going to suggest they make their own giardiniera, which is big in Chicago and a staple of Italian beef sandwiches. A good Italian beef place would pride itself on making its own giardiniera. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giardiniera
  13. And when you go to ZLiving's homepage their programming schedule is from 9/2020!?!
  14. I just thought he was some random Michael Jackson impersonator.
  15. Just finished a new reprint of the 1960s book "The Spook Who Sat by the Door" by Sam Greenlee. The protagonist is a Black Chicago activist who "tricks" his way into the CIA to learn guerrilla tactics to later teach to Chicago street gangs. The book was made into a movie (directed by Ivan Dixon of "Hogan's Heroes" fame and shot in Chicago) which according to legend was pulled from distribution due to pressure by the government. I saw the film when it briefly played in Chicago.
  16. A really good selection on Ed Sullivan this coming Sunday.. The Doors appearance is another infamous incident. The show wanted Morrison to change the lyrics of "Light My Fire," but when he sang the song he didn't change them and they were banned from the show. Jefferson Airplane also pissed off Ed by refusing to change their clothes for the show (their blue jeans interfered with the show's blue screen effects). They were never invited back. Ed Sullivan's Rock 'n' Roll Classics Psychedelic 60s (s1, ep11) The Doors – “Light My Fire”; Jefferson Airplane – “Crown of Creation”; Steppenwolf – “Born to be Wild”, “Magic Carpet Ride”; Vanilla Fudge – “Keep Me Hanging On"; The Temptations – “Psychedelic Shack".
  17. ZLiving, the most incompetent retro channel, seems to be having problems with "Route 66." Last week they reran the previous week's episode and this week there was a talk show instead.
  18. I saw mentioned yesterday that Kate Bush owns all her publishing rights, so she's making a fortune off that song that was used in "Stranger Things."
  19. That's basically how the people I know feel. I kind of look at it as entertainment less than history.
  20. It's a great movie. Too bad they don't make them like that any more. (BTW, the book's good too.)
  21. Can't say I like this show or the roasts... Backstage at the Dean Martin Show Lee Hale & Richard D Neely ISBN: 9781493072866 The Dean Martin Show, with its big-name stars—such as Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Stewart, Lucille Ball, and John Wayne—glitzy production number, and often risque skits, for nine years owned Thursday nights at ten o'clock on television. But nothing about the show was as big a draw as its inimitable host, the breezy, roguishly handsome Dean Martin. Now Lee Hale, the show's musical director, and later producer of The Golddiggers and Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts, lets you peek behind the curtains at all the fun, friendship, and occasional star tantrums that went into making this top-rated variety program.
  22. This morning on Grit they were running a binge of "The Californians", a show from 1957-9 which I have no memory of ever hearing of or seeing. The odd thing about it was that the lead of the series was Art Fleming of "Jeopardy" fame! Iwonder if he'll have a Daily Double.
  23. In the past musicians didn't understand the future value of their music, which lead to their selling their publishing rights. Somewhat similar to residuals for TV actors. Early on they didn't think there was any future value to their work, and they got screwed too.
  24. More music (this time some good ones- two Janis Joplin songs!) First Women Of Rock (s1, ep5) Diana Ross & The Supremes – “Love Child”; Janis Joplin – “Raise Your Hand”; Dusty Springfield – “Son Of A Preacher Man”; Gladys Knight & The Pips – “If I Were Your Woman”; Janis Joplin – “Maybe, Maybe, Maybe”; The Supremes – “You Can't Hurry Love”.
