It has bounced back in the past as the weeks go on - not quite as high as in the beginning of the season, but higher ratings over time. They will take only one week off between now and the finale on May 20th, probably April 8th or 15th. I think that may help with the ratings too. What would help more is better writing, but that is another forum. ;)

The show is already renewed, so nothing to worry about. Actually, if memory serves, it is quite common for the show to post poor ratings in the spring upon a return from a hiatus. Maybe not quite this poor, but a downturn. I'm sure that the change of day didn't help.

Last year they showed a repeat of the previous episode in the earlier time slot followed by the finale at the regular time. But who knows what they'll do this year. Chicago market will be preempted by the Cubs on Wed, May 13 for a 7:00 PM game. Last year the finale was preempted in Chicago and shown on the following Saturday. Gotta love WGN, our CW station. :(

I don't know about vulgar, catrox14, but in Point of No Return, when Cas made a snide remark and Dean replied with "Blow me, Cas", I was surprised that got by the censors. And a few minutes later Dean winks at Cas and tells him that the last time someone looked at him like that, he got laid. So apparently the censors are generous.

Well our affiliate in Chicago decided it was time to cover the address, so Chicago is out of the ratings for Tuesday's show.

What brilliant person decided to schedule the return of Supernatural at the same time as the US President's "State of the Union" address. Of course it is preempted and scheduled to run later at night, but who knows if it will be on schedule. Thanks CW.

You like sports analogies? How about this: in Carver I think we have a Defensive Coordinator instead of a Head Coach. That is to say that he wants to make sure that he doesn't lose the game with bad plays (the show doesn't go off the air), but he also lacks the vision to be proactive and formulate winning plays (great arcs, good pacing, and smart episodes). A good Head Coach relies on his subordinates to give him their best game but guides them at the same time. We don't have that. I have a sneaky feeling that perhaps Kim Manners may have been our coach and not Kripke. We know that S3 was co-opted by the CW and demands were made concerning the female cast members as well as the brighter lighting, but the writers' strike really threw everyone off their game. Heh! They carried on as best they could and then we lost Kim at the beginning of the following season. Coincidence? I don't think so. But just my opinion.

Right there with you, Catrox14. That was my first thought when she won the award. I mean, we're talking about a girl winning this after appearing in about what, 8 episodes? Why, because the show was written up as a critics' darling. I just wish SOMEONE in the industry would recognize Jensen's talents. Hey, even David Duchovny won a Golden Globe for Mulder and Jensen's a much better actor.

Ditto!!!! I believe it will be the poor writing that ruins this show in many fans' hearts. I've been watching since the Pilot, and will until the end, but it's sad to witness the show's decline.

Some people are just like that. I had a friend that graduated from college in 1972 and never listened to any music composed after the seventies since he had hit 30 then. Different strokes for different folks. I listen to music from all decades from the fifties on as well as classical music.

Unfortunately, I think that additional time off for the boys has already begun. I'm seeing a lot of time designated to guest stars and the other two regulars in the show. I'm also afraid that the MoC story will be basically over in a couple of weeks, leaving us with who knows what for an arc for the rest of the season. Your hope is mine as well - I want an epic ending too. But I want the story that takes us there to be epic as well. Unfortunately, I have little faith in the current staff of writers or our so-called showrunner who has shown very little at that position imo.

How about: Sayonara Supernatural Speculation

I know that our CW channel will be showing election results all evening. I'd be furious if I missed the 200th episode because of a preemption. Hell, we got preempted by our local channel for a primary election. :(

Don't feel bad about not finding much to like in this one, @DittyDotDot, because I couldn't find anything to like. :) I remember thinking that it was Carver's biggest failure (back in S3) because at that time, I thought he was a pretty good writer and I liked the way he wrote the boys. Of course, that was in S3. Today I have an entirely different view of his "talent". :(

You are correct @catrox14. I'm right there with you watching many times. ;) You're up.

Earlier in the season...

I love this episode. Love the black and white classic cinema vibe and I swear that the guys look even more gorgeous in it. Whenever Dean gets super into something - like Oktoberfest, beer and bar wenches, it makes me smile. Todd Stashwick is absolutely fantastic as the monster and in many ways steals the show. ;) Even the intermission curtain is funny. Oh, Edlund, I miss you so...

The new duo?

Is no one sharing Castiel's popcorn while watching "Clip Show"? ;)

Hey, Awesom04000, I'm totally with you. I love the scenes with the moppet child - one of the highlights of the episode, in fact. It may be because the kid is so good at acting scared! ;)
-
You are correct, Triple D. I'll have to think about this one. Know I've seen that ugly wallpaper a few times...
-
No, this is a car Dean saw on the road in a much, much earlier season. I can't figure out how that Oregon plate got past the censors.

Ditto again, DittyDotDot to everything you said. Love this episode - one of my top five or so in the series. What surprises me is that here in S3, I love Carver's writing (for the most part), and now as show-runner and writer of the premiers and finales for each season, I'm much less impressed. Wonder what happened? Anyway, I, too cannot get over how they filmed that car scene and when Sam is holding Dean there after the accident, he truly looks dead. I have to look away even...
