I don't agree that the 9-day skip was saying "nothing interesting happened." I think it says "of course lots of really interesting stuff happened but we don't know how to tell that story from the corner we've painted ourselves into, so, never mind." I agree with others that limiting the viewpoints to these half-dozen or so people is really constraining the story we were hoping to see. What with Kirkman's habit of milking a situation, I wouldn't be surprised if the real story of the fall of civilization, which would have to include the perspectives of law, government, and the medical community to be meaningful, will be told in yet another new series. Perhaps we'll see Jenner and the CDC back for that one, even get to hear from France and get some insights about how the whole world is falling apart.

We should have a race where candidates have to be above a certain age, or below a certain fitness level, just to see some variety on the final mat. -
It wasn't up to Mary to protect Tony, but a heads-up about the story making it to the newspaper would only be good form.

The thing is, wasn't Rick in his coma for a month? And when he woke up, the fall was over. If we're already nine days in, we're already nearly half-way through that period. There are only a couple of weeks left before we arrive at the time that TWD started. Is this show just going to become another version of the show that is already on? Who needs that? It makes absolutely no sense at all that Nick would still be wearing those clothes AFTER he's already taken them off to go in the pool. He's been at home for NINE DAYS! At HOME! Go into your room and put on some of your own damn clothes, geez! And if he doesn't live there, then put on some of Travis'.

I thought all the "thank god this shit is over" meta comments were hilarious! I lol'd.

What worries me is that people are dropping out because they can't take Clara anymore, but people will think it's Capaldi, and we'll end up with a teenager next year. Mind you, with yet another white male in the role when people were pushing for a black Doctor or a woman Doctor, I'm thinking the Master regenerating into Missy is a precursor to the next Doctor being a black woman.

From the essay: I guess that settles the question about whether Cait thinks she can change the world and make things better for trans folk everywhere?

For the first time, I got the sense in this episode that Candis is in this for what she can get out of it. She breaks into her high-kicking act whenever possible, and now the whole "I might as well date Cait" felt really self-serving, like dating a reality show star will jump-start her own career. I felt kind of sorry for Cait, y'all, like she's being used and doesn't realize it.

According to a 2011 mortality study, LA sees about 150-160 deaths every day. Imagine how much damage they could do initially, before people realize they're not just sick, but trying to bite your face off. It's not surprising that you'd see a lot of zombies very quickly.

The man she has sex with would have to believe that there is only male and female, but nothing else. But she could get lucky and find someone more progressive. A lot of queer people reject the notion of binary genders. The belief, which I also hold, is that, like sexual orientation, gender exists on a spectrum. We are socially conditioned to believe there is only male and female, and you are one or the other. However, if gender is born out of a brain awash in soup of chemicals, there could be as many genders as there are individuals, if you could measure that finely. There is probably a standard chemical blend that, when it interacts with sex chromosomes, results in an individual whose gender and biology align. But throw off that blend a little and you start to get the wide variation of gender-biology fluidity we are starting to recognize. As for whether or not Cait is attracted to men or women, whatever she may say or think, she has spent six decades conforming to societal expectations, and in that time she may have become used to sex with women, while at the same time suppressing an attraction to men. She may even be bisexual or pansexual, which will make it even more confusing for her to figure out. Defying society while breaking through the mental barriers you've built up over most of your life can be pretty difficult to do, especially in just a few weeks. I expect her ideas of attraction are as much in transition as everything else in her life right now, and I'm kind of sad for her that she feels she might have to force it just for our entertainment or enlightenment.

As I understand it, "transsexual" is an outdated term. Some people still use it to refer to transgendered persons who have had sexual reassignment surgery, but the more modern way of thinking of it is, there are transgendered persons who have had surgery, who plan to have surgery, who might have surgery some day, maybe, and who will never have surgery (either by choice or circumstance).

That reminds me of something Cait said that pissed me off. It was something like, "I may be the best female helicopter in the world now," or words to that effect. My first thought was: "Why, because you were born male? A female helicopter pilot who was born female couldn't be better than you?" Gender-related language has always been a mine field.

Yes this is starting to be the Cait and Candys show. Which I'd probably be OK with if they would lay off the innuendo. I am also tired of the clothes and hair and stuff.

And right next to this very important article is a piece entitled "Caitlyn Jenner's boobs get nippley in cold air! Watch the bonus clip," SMH

I get the sense that, after so many years with the K's, "reality show star" is the only job qualification Cait has left, so I'm sure the show idea came first. Once that decision was made, she would have known there was no way to avoid the heavy stuff, so might as well jump into that concept head first.

Hopefully the publicity will help Blossom during her next application. As for Jennifer talking to Cait about Ronda's issues? What I saw in that scene was: Jennifer: Try not to be too selfish. Cait: *Ignore*

I know. After he said "I've never milked a bull", I said "Neither has anyone else".

Last Tango In Halifax - General Discussion
Starchild replied to David T. Cole's topic in Last Tango In Halifax
It appears there has to be a wedding in every season, so either Raff and his girlfriend get hitched, or Caroline and someone new, or John maybe. -
I did notice how she started to defend herself when the trans person of colour was telling her story and getting agitated. And how Jennifer subtly tried to get her to "STFU, this is not the time."

The younger one really seems to love the lifestyle that goes along with being a personal service provider to a high-powered celebrity. And the older one looked a little jealous that she might be losing her private friend to a new crowd. Sorry, I don't remember their names. As for Cait being a potential spokesperson for the community? I'm having doubts that she's up to it at the moment. Perhaps she'll eventually find the intellectual depth and activist courage it's going to take, but it's going to really shake up her ivory tower if she decides to let it in.

The first episode has me cautiously optimistic that there will be substance to this show. Fingers crossed.

Well, even when she was living as Bruce and was hiding herself from the world, she was still a woman. She just didn't tell anyone. Using female pronouns regardless of the period in question is not wrong, and simplifies the discussion.
