I agree. I was really bummed by this "development" in the story. I think I was a little "too old" to watch the original series and read the novels, so I have no context, but apparently the dummy originates from the novels. Before episode six, I found the show entertaining enough. I can't stand ventriloquist's dummies, though—"Dead Silence" notwithstanding. I remember reading other, more "mature" R.L. Stine books in middle and high school. I also read a lot of Stephen King in high school. I graduated high school in 1993, so I'm enjoying the music from that timeline.

She was definitely wearing some nude tights or shapewear or something. Her "song" was completely bonkers, but she absolutely didn't show asscrack on TV. I don't understand Mark. He's a vegan, but he eats whatever meat- and dairy-laden samples presenters hand out? That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works. I'm a vegetarian, and I never, ever eat meat, not even to "sample". Barbara's face is highly distracting. Her mouth is stretched so wide. She's 74, and whatever camera filters they're using make her look like she has no wrinkles. It's uncanny valley. She posted this heavily edited photo in May. https://www.instagram.com/p/Csbu5-KrrqG/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Is she contractually obligated to mention Cousins Maine Lobster on every episode? -

I'm a child-hating shrew, so trotting out kids to sell a product has the opposite effect on me. I instantly hate whatever it is and doubly hate the parents for using their kids as props. The Sharks are nothing if not inconsistent. Sometimes, one product is only "a product, not a company", and other times, they invest in the one-product company. I'll never get over and stop bringing up the Wedding Flask as long as I live. Her clothes are hideous. Supposedly, she designs them, which makes sense. I've said her pointy-shoulder dresses look like Count Chocula. We call those "cold-shoulder" tops "Lori shirts". -

Ew. It was an immediate no for me for any man who posed next to his car/motorcycle/boat. -

In my experience with online dating over 20-some years, 90% of straight men make the least amount of effort possible. I mean, like, messaging, "Hey", or a profile that says only, "Ask me what you want to know." I gave up several times over the years. The men with whom I connected/had short- or long-term relationships over the years had not the most polished pictures and profiles but were the most genuine and had clearly put in effort. I met my boyfriend online in 2014, and we dated for a month. We broke up for reasons but reconnected in 2019 and have been together ever since. We moved in together right after the pandemic hit. -

Meh. "I grew up very middle class." Yet he knew how to repair skis at 12? I knew exactly one kid in my school who skied, and her family was very well off. Skiing is not a cheap pastime. -
It's more than that, though. It's about the normalization of unethical behavior by millionaires and billionaires (on the show and IRL). Paul screwed over a student he mentored, so who knows what he would do to someone with whom he's in business.

One of the worst wigs I've ever seen.

My parents live on a dead-end street in the house in which I grew up. The neighborhood was annexed into the city maybe 30 years ago. The city came a couple years ago and put in a sewer line in the neighborhood, but it was going to be something like $10,000 to connect to the house--it definitely wasn't the "$50K to $85K" on the show. My parents refused, and therefore, the two houses on the road after them didn't get sewer access either.🥴

I'm standing out here alone because I don't see any chemistry between Jennifer and Jon. It's like watching wet white bread grow mold. Jen can't act and always looks constipated. Don't throw tomatoes at me.

I've told my boyfriend he can just toss my body off the side of the highway. I'll be dead; what'll I care? He's not on board with the idea.😂 But seriously, I've always heard that cremation is far more ecologically sound than traditional burial. I would ideally like a green burial. -
She did.

Yeah, Mina's only 35. She can't ride her podcast and be an "influencer" forever. She could've scaled down her business and continued to renovate (coughflipcough) houses, cancelled the show, and not felt like she was carrying the weight of so many people's livelihoods. I get that she felt a ton of pressure employing so many people, but blowing everything up and burning every bridge was not the right move. While Tad is an ass, I'm glad he's coming out of this developing a business for himself. Cory (demo guy) works with him, and he seems like a grounding force for Tad, who is engaged. MJ has a new design business. It looks like Cory (contractor that works with Mina on plans) is working as a general contractor. I swear I have a life outside of this show and forum.

Halo Top is mediocre IMO, so I don't know that I would be so crazy over chocolate the same creators invented. I don't understand why actual millionaires need to be in the Tank. They can't hire marketing experts? Meh. I'll never forget that Lori wanted to call Bantam Bagels "Bagel Stuffins". I have forever doubted her so-called marketing panache. I read that Candace sold Sprinkles in 2014 to a private investment group. At least the soap woman is the kind of entrepreneur that "Shark Tank" used to feature. -
I glanced over the last few posts on her Instagram, and according to the comments, she's not talking to her family (Karen and...???). I don't know how people got this information, but I assume from her podcast, to which I don't listen. Finley, the "Chief of Staff" at Two Chicks who had a shared office with Mina next to the playroom for their kids, hasn't been on the show at all this season. Her LinkedIn profile hasn't changed, though. Plenty of people just abandon their profiles, so that doesn't really mean anything. ETA: I found an "article" about Mina's strained family relationships.

I have eczema and sensitive skin, so the soap was interesting, but $11 a bar (before shipping) is too much for me. I use Dr. Bronner's castile soap in baby mild. One 16-ounce bottle lasts forever. -
I, too, was underwhelmed by this season, and that made me sad. I loved this show's past seasons, and while this one didn't feel like it was just existing to tie up loose ends, it didn't feel fully formed, either. The storyline with Maeve's mother's death felt most complete and true to the spirit of the show. The funeral was funny, odd, painful and touching, just as the show has been when at its best.

I almost cried for Rebecca. She and her husband are really lovely people. I'm so glad she got a good result from her surgery.

I found it hilarious that Paul the Billionaire Who Is Obviously a Metaphor for Elon Musk no longer wanted anything to do with UBS after the Cybil fallout. Like Paul the Billionaire has scruples.

I have a visceral dislike of Ethan Hawke since he cheated on Uma Thurman. Imagine being married to one of the most stunning and accomplished actors and then cheating on her. He's married to the nanny who he "didn't start a relationship with when she was our nanny."🫡 This episode hurt because my parents split when I was five. My father is a deadbeat, but went on to have another child with his second (now-ex-) wife, and he dotes on her. I don't like the "redeeming" storyline because Rick didn't seek out Elora and try to make amends; she looked for him because of needing paperwork. That's all just me projecting.🙃

The Other Black Girl - General Discussion
bilgistic replied to BetterButter's topic in The Other Black Girl
I watched the series over the past few days and enjoyed it for the most part. I hate the cliffhanger ending, though. Just give me a season with a resolution, especially because so often streaming services don't renew a show for a second season. An explanation about the properties of the magic hair grease would've been nice. So just...Diana invented hair grease that helps Black women achieve their ambitions but at a cost that was also not fully explained? The random flickering lights didn't help. That usually means ghosts in a show or movie. -
Yeah, she said first-time buyer. I yelled at the TV over that, too. In the spring/summer before we ran out of time to give notice on our lease, my boyfriend and I were looking for a 2BR/2BA house in the metro Charlotte area. There's very, very little "inventory" under $200K. One house in east Charlotte listed at $180K was literally a burned-out hull touted as an "investor's special". We simply can't afford anything more than about $175K on our wages and with interest rates what they are. We're really hoping things turn around next year, because our corporate landlord is an actual stack of demons in a trench coat.

I have to say that I'm enjoying "the market" reversing on them and other real estate brokers and investors. I've been waiting for it, and I hope what we're seeing is a sign of a huge crash to come. Exorbitant prices for housing isn't sustainable. Our rent went up $400 over 13 months from August 2022 to August 2023. It's criminal, and it needs to be regulated.
