    Widows (2018)

I just saw this and I expected to like it a lot more. For a while, there were way too many things going on at once: The heist planning, Jamal's brother stalking them, the politics, whoa...calm down. It seemed like two movies going on at once: Heist and the city politics. I also struggled with the pacing, not much happened until the final week, when the plan came together in 3-5 days. A very powerful moment was the death of Veronica's son: He's driving a fancy Mercedes Benz, is pulled over, doesn't really think he's in danger...casually reaches over to the glove box to presumably, put away the Cartier gift box and BOOM! he's shot three times. Wow.
  2. I'm peeved by rude as fuck customers who treat customer service people (CSP) like shit. Client: YELLING: What do you mean the bank won't cover these charges on my stolen/hacked card? CSP: I'm sorry, but you did not agree to this type of insurance it when the card was given to you. Client: YELLS EVEN LOUDER: When?! I have no idea what you're talking about. CSP: Here's the form, where you declined the coverage. --flips monitor around-- Client: Pauses...quiet voice.... STARTS YELLING AGAIN: Still, IT'S THE BANK's FAULTTTT.
  3. My local theater is playing a Sing Along version! I'm tempted to go watch it again.
  4. Johnny Depp is playing Johnny Depp. He's not bad, but he isn't breaking any new ground either. I enjoyed the film but didn't love it. The pace never really picked up for me and 1 hour in I was still waiting for the movie to START! Newt and Thaddeus are a throwback to the Weasleys...Thaddeus is giving me serious Percy vibes. Unless, the red headed Grindelwald follower who was killed at the meeting is a Weasley as well? It's obvious Leta is related to Bellatrix Lestrange, but I'm having a hard time making the connection: She can't be her mother since she's single and has no kids (no kids without marriage in the wizarding world), she can't be her aunt since she ditched her only sibling. So...she can only be Bellatrix's cousin twice removed? Don't have a clue how Credence and Dumbledore's familial relationship will be explained. Sorry if this has been mentioned before: My friend and I had a mini debate after the movie about Dumbledore's and Grindelwald's friendship. To me, it was a friendship...to her, it implied a gay relationship. *shrugs*
  5. I no longer trust oral communication in the workplace. If something needs to be done I need an email!
  6. Damn you, The Children's Place website! I spent three hours doing online shopping for my niece and nephew. The website was janky (I kept getting an Oops...Error! message) so that took twice as long. I check out, enter two gift cards and pay the remainder with my credit card. Today, I get an ORDER CANCELED email.
  7. Just came back from the theater. Disclaimer: I was born in 1987. I enjoyed it and the story was cohesive. I'm sure a lot of things were washed down, or simply looked over. I do wish the movie had shown Freddie in his final days...the last shot of the film is from Live Aid in 1985, Freddie lived for SIX! MORE! YEARS! after that. In that regard, I felt cheated. As in the producers touched on him having AIDS but did not want to dig deep into what that meant. I enjoyed the friendship he maintained with Mary throughout his life. Although I'm not sure if they ever divorced, we only get a scene where she no longer has her wedding ring. Overall, I recommend it. The music is great, obviously. Malek delivers a good performance.
  8. Can we have a movie where John Wick and Peppermint team up?
  9. This wasn't as awful as I expected it to be. The first act, until the bad guys showed up at TH's apartment was solid. Then...it went downhill. Venom's change of heart is when the movie really went off the rails. Michelle Williams is too talented to be in this. Her only job was to turn on the screeching audio in a plaid skirt. IMO, Spiderman 3's Venom was more interesting. In the TH version we got an Oh, Venom! You Rascal! angle. I don't follow comic books, what was the post credit scene about?
  10. Finished episode 2 and I love it. Granted, Alyssa Edwards is my ALL TIME favorite drag race contestant. I love seeing the man behind the queen, and Justin really is a great guy. Make that money! The dance moms are hilarious.
  11. This was awesome. I was half shaking when the movie ended, because of all the damn twists and turns!: 1. Margot ran away 2. Molester uncle--NOT! 3. Kidnapper has been identified 4. Kidnapper KILLED HIMSELF 5. Debra messing did it! 6. Margot is alive! I'm very, very glad I'm not a teenager in this day and age. Social media is just too much...which actually makes me scared for when I have kids.
  12. I saw this last night and thought it was great. There wasn't such EXTREME opulence of money as I expected. Thinking it over, the money was there but in more subtle ways the chairs with the golden detail during the dumpling cooking come to mind. The movie succeeded in getting the old money point across in a "Wealth Whispers, Money Screams" kind of way. Rachel was the weakest point, IMO. She wasn't as charming as I expected her to be. Michelle Yeoh is so amazing I was kind of rooting for her character. Wall Street cousin with the three kids was my favorite supporting character.
  13. This was awful. Random thoughts: I forgot what the plot was and I just saw the movie an hour ago. Why did the rogue alien decide to help the humans? Why did the bad Wolverine ExoSkeleton Predator want to kill him? How the hell did Olivia Munn get ON FOOT from point A to point B at the same time as the people who TOOK A SPACESHIP?!?! When they were fighting in the swamp I was half expecting a crocodile to jump out. If the space ship's force field chopped Nettles in half how did the main guy not get harmed when he was sliding all over it? Where did the first spaceship land? In Mexico...? If so, how the heck did they get from Tennessee to Mexico in 4 minutes? How did the alien's gear just get FedEx'ed to his house? ALL PACKAGES are checked by US customs. You'd think ALIEN HELMET AND ALIEN BRACELET WITH BLASTERS would raise some red flags. I kinda pity Thomas Jane...from being The Punisher to this?! Did not understand the alien dog. How did he go from vicious to man's best friend? The story is way too complicated with two villains: The Predator AND Sterling K. Brown/The Government. Keep it simple folks, Humans vs. The Predator. I was half expecting the final pod to be a mini Alien (like the final scene of Alien vs. Predator).
  14. Cavill isn't the problem. The awful scripts are.
  15. Stupid sales people! Wasted an hour emailing back and forth with a vendor. E-mail thread went something like this: Me: Hello, I'm looking to rent XYZ for a two day event: Sept. 19-Sept. 20. Please see attached reference image. Company: What size? 46" or 32". Me: 32" is fine. Company: Is this an outdoor or an indoor event? Me: Outdoor. Company: What color do you want? Black or white. Me: Either color is fine. Preferably black. Company: I'm sorry. We have no availability for that day. WHAT THE FUCKKKK?! From the FIRST question any reasonable person can tell if they can cover the event or not. Grrrrr....
  16. Opening Weekend Tracking: $25-30 million at the box office. Most articles related to the film are now focused on the the sex offender scene.
  17. Origin by Dan Brown: I'm about halfway through, and holy shit...this is way too formulaic.
  18. I was in elementary in the mid 1990's, so I was a big fan of the Jr. version of these series: Baby Sitter's Club Little Sister Sweet Valley Kids The Boxcar Children was my absolute favorite.
  19. I'm sick of all the family drama. It's way too long and ridiculous to type, but sheesh...I just want to grab my shit, hop on a plane and never see anyone again.

    The Nun (2018)

A demonic spirit stalks the cloisters of a secluded abbey in Corin Hardy's horror film starring Demian Bichir and Taissa Farmiga. I didn't like it as much as The Conjuring or Annabelle 2, it did have one or two decent scares. Valak's makeup reminded me a lot of the devil from The Exorcist.
  21. I was peeved at my SO for insisting I set up an itinerary for our upcoming trip to NYC (first time there!). It's over a month away. But now that I'm done with the itinerary, I can see the point of doing one.
  22. Awesome. Yes, there are minor (or major!) potholes, but it's entertaining as hell. I was expecting the son to have more of a reaction or an internal conflict upon learning his mother was alive. His dad (whom he's now devoted to) lied to him.
  23. Hanin's story is excellent. Part of me wants her to help the CIA, part of me wants her to disappear into a new life in Europe.
