  1. That line in the sweet 16 episode always catches me... Roseanne says "more punch?" and Anne Marie says "You know I am!". That line really seemed ad libed to me. Wonder if it was in the script. Her being a partner is the diner is an interesting idea. I think part of her charm was that she wasn't in every episode though.
  2. I love Anne Marie... "We're just killing time until the stripper shows up right?"
  3. I forgot about the spelling bee... Yes, "Rebecca" is heard a couple times at least that I can remember. Pretty sure it's said when Roseanne has to go see the principal about her giving the finger. Also, I forget the episode but Darlene says something like "We're waiting Rebecca!" when she's asked where she was.
  4. Finished up season 2. Last episode is Roseannes birthday and Marsha gives her Saturday off... Funny, I thought Roseanne quit Chicken Divine over working weekends... Also, Darlene says "David, you gotta help!" to DJ regarding the dishes. Funny how in the Tornado episode Roseanne introduces it by saying it is the only episode where DJs full name is said. She also says it in the episode when DJ plays hide and seek with her. "David Jacob, are you in the closet?" Or something like that. Also funny how much different season 2 is from the rest of the series. It's the most "sitcomy" for sure. Just look at the beauty shop. They built this huge set for it, hired a large ensemble cast with Marsha and Iris and the ditzy blonde lady and Mrs Wellman and the various other beauty shop customers. Whoever thought this up must have envisioned this as a permanent aspect of the show. How sitcomy. Roseanne works in a beauty shop throughout the series with all these broadly drawn characters and a constant stream of potential new clients to meet the requirements of any prospective storyline. I feel this way because it happened between seasons. Season 3 was also when Tom Arnold got a lot of control. I can see him and Roseanne flipping tables over the beauty shop and taking the show in a different direction. I think this was the only job Roseanne had where her quiting/getting fired wasn't shown on camera. It's only mentioned in a piece of dialogue in season 3. Pretty large part of season 2 just to get a brief mention in season 3.
  5. Her husband died on the job so probably she got some pay outs.
  6. The design of the house itself is iconic enough that you don't need to see the old couch or the Godzilla to recognize it as the Roseanne house. I hope the appliances and decor are updated. It wouldn't make sense after 30 years. I just hope the rebuild of the set is 100% accurate as far as the layout is concerned. Fuller House always bugged me because the set looks pretty good at a glance but if you look close it's not perfect. The lack of bathroom off the livingroom for instance.
  7. Good read, never saw that. I would like to see what Lecy thought of Sarah. They seemed to have a sense of humour about the situation like with the two Beckys skit. Was there resentment?
  8. Jackie's perm in the first few episodes of season was pretty outrageous lol. Survived through to season 3 in the opening credits since they used the season 1 opening for some reason.
  9. Her last appearance in season 8 or 9 I think it was at Darlenes shower... Wow she looked much older. Even in season 7 when Dan goes over to her house and breaks the lamp... It looked like she had some sort of health issue... Totally different from the first 4 seasons.
  10. Just watched "An Officer and a Gentleman". This is the one where Roseanne leaves to take care of her dad and Jackie takes over the mothering responsibilities. I almost feel like the whole episode was just to conceal Roseanne's new haircut. In the beggining she is wearing this big hat and they have to fall all over themselves explaining how it's so cold outside just to justify the hat. Then when she comes back they had to concoct this story about why she got her haircut when she was taking care of her dad. Did they really think people would care this much, or even notice, her hairstyle change? Lol
  11. Just watched the season 2 Thanksgiving episode. Crystal and Ed's relationship is revealed. Kind of weird how totally surprised Roseanne and Dan are in season 3 when she finds them making out. Dan acts like it's the first he's heard of it yet in this Thanksgiving episode he tells his dad to stay away from her and Ned Beatty tells him he's not going to. Also can't reiterate how much I hate the actress who portrayed Audrey. The way she speaks in that dullsy southern tone. "This is my friend, Jay Bryant...." I picture Dan's mom as being overweight and older looking. Dan was probably a big baby and I can't see him coming out of her.
  12. Seasons 3 - 4 are the strongest in my opinion. Season 1 is better than season 2 IMO. I really hate how in season 2 most of the end credits scenes are just still pictures of something. Like dishes in the sink or food left out on the table. Also some episodes have a pre opening credits scene but most don't. I think it was either late season 3 or season 4 where there was always an "opener" scene. This makes me think they were trying new things with the format in season 2. Also all of Roseanne's jobs during this time. They finally settle on the salon and having Jackie as a cop and dating Gary, then by season 3, boom, a major plot change with Roseanne just saying she quit the salon and now works at Rodbell's. Jackie quits the force and dumps Gary and goes back to being a flakey spinster. It's like they realized how big of a mistake giving Jackie's life structure was. Kind of like how they married off Rhoda in the first episode of that series and then they had her get a divorce because the writer's screwed themselves. Crystal got swept up in these changes too. Lecy leaves for college so they expand the role of Nancy in order to start the Diner and Crystal slowly disappears.
  13. Charlotte and Molly worked there too. In season 7 theres some really old lady buser in one of the episodes who can't reach the dishes on the counter so Roseanne pushes them towards her.
  14. At least they acknowledged it. David saying she is a cold and uncaring bitch. The whole tone of the show got more abrasive as time went on. Probably reflecting Roseanne's personal life...
  15. Even the change in the character of Roseanne. She wouldnt have put up with Crystal after season 5 lol.
  16. Wanted to start a discussion on Crystal as I feel she is one of the more polarizing characters. Either you love her or you hate her. Which do you and why? I personally liked her but felt Natalie West kind of got a raw deal. From the beginning she appeared in the opening credits but dropped off the face of the planet as season 5 opened. Clearly they were replacing her with Nancy as that's the season they opened the Diner. Imagine if they somehow kept Crystal in Nancy's role as partner in the Diner. Would that have been better or worse? It's also interesting how they seem to have planned the arc of Crystal marrying Dan's father so far in advance. In Father's Day from season 1 Crystal comes over while Dan's father is there and they flirt with each other. I believe there are a couple more situations like this before they finally get married in Season 3. That probably had a role in her reduced appearances as well. Marry off the character to a special guest star who normally plays in movies and is likely to make no more than one appearance per season... I wonder if she will be in the revival.
  17. Saw this was unfinished... Z is for Roseanne's favourite movie, Doctor Zhivago.
  18. I just watched that episode last night. I can't stand that one extra that is Crystal's friend. The one that does the "bah bum bum bum" parts when they sing the song. Probably was trying to get noticed so she'd get more work.
  19. I hate to get personal here but I am a fairly open person (at least online) lol. I had the same problem as DJ with the erections but that was in third grade. DJ was like 12 or 13 when he was having this problem... And eventhough it was written as a joke, Dan was right. You just put something in front of it or held your hands in front. You get the feeling that the writers/producers so enjoyed the masturbation episode that they wanted to duplicate it and boners was the next best thing.
  20. I've talked about the differences in the show as well. It's like a perfect split. Seasons 1- the beginning of 5 are more family oriented and then the rest of 5-9 are more issues oriented. The reason is Lecy Goranson. Before Becky left they had a family dynamic. After Becky left the family was more fractured. You didn't have the Becky/Darlene conflict anymore. Lecy leaving for college also opened up Sara Gilbert leaving for college. Without 2 of the main cast to write for they turned to the issue episodes. Jackie in an abusive relationship. Jackie wanting to cut Fred out of seeing the baby/parental rights. Roseanne going to the gay bar. DJ masturbating/the boner episode. (How DJ was masturbating before he got erections I'll never know). Roseannes pregnancy and the abortion issue. And on and on. Then in seasons 8-9 they got rid of doing story arcs and just did "bottle episodes" to run out the clock on the show. Most series only get 1 bad "last season" but we got 2. They thought season 8 was the end but then got renewed right at the end. No matter how much was down there there would have at least been an aisle they could have cowered in you'd think. Maybe if all that stuff was down there it would have caused a danger of things falling on them. They also say you should go in the bath tub lol.
  21. Yea he was working at the garage for 2 seasons by that point. I assume being supervisor at a city garage would have been $40000 a year back in 1994 or whenever. Dan alone was now making more than Roseanne and Dan combined when they told Becky their income was $35000 for her college application. What I don't get is why they have the discussion about Jerry's birth being so expensive because they don't qualify for aid like the other kids. Dan had a great job and surely would have had full medical benefits. I don't get it.
  22. Good point but I can see an alternate perspective too... Becky was already past the age of going to college (from just out of high school) and she had already been living with Mark for a few years. She was working at Bunz. Sometimes when kids get older and their future doesn't seem as bright, parents settle for alternative victories. Maybe Becky wasn't going to go to college right away but giving Roseanne a grand baby and Becky her own child would still be a happy event. Like how Bev was happy Roseanne turned out to be a mommy but Jackie didn't realize her potential.
  23. "And don't you dare tell Fred your theory on how Jackie made ends meet that time she was unemployed!"
  24. Pretty sure. Fred drops the lawsuit and Roseanne yells at Jackie and then in the credits scene Jackie and Fred are sitting on her couch after having sex.
  25. Anyone else bothered by the fact that Jackie was really antagonistic towards Fred and then completely reverses in the end credits of one episode?
