  1. I don't know how old you are, but if you ask my parents (boomers), they WILL openly admit that they were lucky. They and their immigrant peers. But it was just a small cohort of people who came at the right time and had the right education.
  2. Maybe we'll go to EuroDisney or something. Two birds with one stone. Or Disney Hong Kong.
  3. I need to take my son to Disney. I don't want him to be like me, and didn't have a Disney experience until the age of 12 (almost 13)! Only question is whether to do the theme park or a cruise...
  4. If "cat ladies" are odd types, then "cat gentlemen" are probably even moreso.
  5. Re the book situation: tell them you're a library and the borrower owes you $1 for each day it's not returned starting the day you call/text them with the notice.
  6. I'm likely autistic, so I don't know when people hit on me either...unless it's fairly obvious. Or I wouldn't know how to react.
  7. It's weird. If someone said they were 58, I'd say that they're old. But then I realize that I'll be 45 in September! 20 years ago, 45 was ANCIENT.
  8. I forgot what my FIRST handle was on TwoP, but that one was banned. Circa 2005 or so because I was too opinionated on one of the boards. Came back a few years later and moved here when they shut. I was active on a miscellaneous board about diversity, SATC, Gilmore Girls and likely Desperate Housewives as well.
  9. Breached baby? I was breached. My mom was supposed to have a c-section but I decided to appear on Labour Day weekend, so the doctor who was supposed to deliver was away. That wasn't when I was SUPPOSED to appear. But hey, most of us decide to show up at a different day anyway. The subbing doctor was younger and said he could get me out without a c-section. And yeah, in another era, my mom wouldn't have survived either. And I might not have. Also happened (almost) 45 years ago.
  10. If it's what I think it is, then it depends on the store. The one near me is a small, independently owned franchise of said chain and doesn't have close to the kind of security other people mention. Locking cart wheels isn't unusual for downtown Toronto - Whole Foods has had it as long as I could remember. And the first WF came to town 20 years ago!
  11. Had a follow-up mammo today because they thought they saw something on one of my breasts post-MRI. The mammo was immediately followed with a breast u/s. Thank goodness things were normal (so I'm proceeding with my usual mammograms later this year). Things are getting really stressful for me, health-wise. I'm having surgery next month to remove something that is related to my genetic condition which could require a two month recovery process for full recovery. I've been to nothing but medical appointments since March.
  12. Parents buying their daughters fancy communion dresses was the very reason why they put us all in ugly white choir gowns for ours. And this was in 1987.
  13. It wasn't anti-bacterial soap I had issues with. It was that specific brand of HAND SOAP. I guess they use different ingredients for their shower gel. I had issues with some of their shampoos as well (gave me bad dandruff).
  14. This should probably go on the family thread, but to me, it's more of a happy thing (while the family forum is more about complaining - LOL). I found my own baby book, the one my parents bought when I was born. Like most families, it was never completely filled out until I started school. But anyway, I asked my dad to phonetically sound out my great grandparents' names (as well as my paternal grandmother's, since I never knew it either. I only knew her maiden name). Happy I was able to do that. None of my great-grandfathers' names were written down for some reason. I also don't have my paternal grandmother's mother's name. Even my dad doesn't know much about her.
  15. Bought an oven-ready lasagna for dinner tonight. It was vegetarian and yes, both my husband and son inhaled it. They - especially my husband - don't really like vegetables that much (my son is improving A LOT on the vegetable front. I packed carrot sticks last week and he ate all of it (they aren't allowed to trade food at school due to allergies)). Still a carbs and cheese kind of guy, but I don't see that disappearing.
  16. For months during the fall and winter, my hands were peeling and were chronically dry. Even the prescription cream I got wasn't working. I thought about it, switched soaps and BINGO, things began to get better! Funny thing is this: My shower gel is from the same brand as the hand soap and it hasn't affected me. Must be something specifically in the foaming soap that was giving me issues!
  17. I've wondered about some posters too. There's one who used to be around here a lot, but she disappeared some time in the new year. I hope she's okay.
  18. There are Auntie Karens in all cultures. With apologies to people who have Aunt Karens they absolutely love.
  19. Finally reading the books (okay, I’m listening to the audiobook) and can only picture the actors in the roles rather than using my imagination. I can’t be alone in this right?
  20. Maybe an ice cream float with orange pop/soda? Or blend orange juice and vanilla ice cream together? Or do you want something that isn't thick? This creamsicle mocktail recipe notes that either lemon/lime soda OR orange can be used.
  21. The craziness and stress was one of the reasons why my parents never entertained at home when I was younger. They'd do it once in a while, usually in the summer, having people over for a barbecue. And of course, my birthday parties (though it wasn't every year. Some years, my parties were held at Pizza Hut, McDonald's or Chuck E. Cheese). Otherwise, we'd just go out. Prix fixe menus at Chinese restaurants were fairly reasonable - even at the nice ones back in the 80s and 90s (not so much today!!), and we'd do Thanksgiving and Christmas there.
  22. I'd record the rerun and then delete the first recording.
  23. Same with China. And you can only trace the male line. Unless you want to go through a billion books to find out about the women.
  24. This reminds me of the day we lost our internet. Our internet runs everything - our cable, our landline and we didn't even have data for our cell phones. Basically, all we had was electricity. And the entire family had Covid so we couldn't go out. We read, I went on the exercise bike (since I couldn't do any of my workout videos) and listened to music on my old boom box from 1991.
