  1. WTF??? He's crazy. Does he not understand how things work?
  2. General x 2 in under a year. It was already past 7 pm after my June surgery and I was an inpatient for 10 nights or so. It didn't really matter. The one last week was day surgery and I was home by noon. I was mostly with it, so I had lunch (takeout) and then took a nap until dinner (takeout again). I was fine the next day but was hunkered at home 2020 style until the following Wednesday.
  3. Is it pronounced Sandsbawllas? If I recall correctly, the Bermuda parish, Sandys is pronounced Sands - the y is silent.
  4. I've had mammos since I was in my late 30s and this year, I not only had to have a breast MRI, but an ultrasound and will need a contrast mammo in about a month (it was postponed due to my recent surgery). I'd get them out, but having had two operations in less than a year, I'm really hesitant in getting anything (unless absolutely necessary) for at least a year.
  5. My balance has never been good, but in the healthcare world, having good balance can mean something VERY DIFFERENT. When I was at my pre-op appointment, the nurse asked about my balance. I said it could be better. To me, "could be better" means "one who cannot hold a tree pose for more than five seconds." Her follow up question was "so you're always worried you'd fall?" Ummm, no. Not that. It means I can't hold certain yoga poses as long as I SHOULD be able to. And I can't do deadlifts standing on one leg. But I can do deadlifts with both feet on the floor or at a staggered stance.
  6. Forgot to mention: my mail in ballot came in a few days ago. I registered ON THE DAY Canada announced its federal election. My husband is also going to be voting by mail and should get his in a few days.
  7. This reminds me of my family. My maternal grandparents lived with us when I was growing up and despite receiving old age security, depended on my parents for support. My parents were basically supporting three people (grandparents and me), paying for the mortgage and car as well as other expenses. We were in a pretty nice suburb, too. I really don't know how they did it.
  8. Someone upthread posted about imposter syndrome and I'm not sure if my post on Threads really counts. Or if it should be here or in the Pet Peeves section. Anyway, it's something I think all children and grandchildren of immigrants face. And are sometimes shamed not only by people from the same/similar heritages but by multigeneration people who live in the country their parents/grandparents settled in. I don't really see it here, but it's everywhere ELSE I see and probably why I believe that inclusion/diversity needs to be reworked. It shouldn't be taken out all together, of course, but all voices need to be heard. I can't say this enough.
  9. False/fake spring is very, very real. Though snow in May is very rare in Toronto. It was close to freezing one Mother's Day though.
  10. Update on my surgery recovery: I was FINALLY able to properly wash my hair rather than just washing the tip because I had to keep the dressing on my scalp for a few days. It was great to FINALLY wash off the medical/clinical/OR scent. UGH. Plus I was able to show my face in public (there was an event at my son's school yesterday).
  11. I took a political map quiz on CBC’s Votecompass earlier and below is a screenshot of where I fall on the spectrum. Pretty much in the middle. A little more left than I thought I’d be though.
  12. I used to frequent the /asianparentstories subreddit, but now I go, perhaps a few times a week. A lot of the stories sound too extreme to me, especially coming from 18 year olds with GenX parents.
  13. I don't think the neck-in-neck polls are as scary as some people think. It'll lead to another minority government which means that the party with the most seats will need to form a coalition with another party. It would mean a government more politically in the centre, too (not that the current Liberals aren't already in the middle). That said, someone on Threads referred to Nerd Boy (i.e. Pierre Poilievre as "Le Petit Pipi" which made me LOL because it roughly translates to a small you-know-what). 😂
  14. I just checked my voting package status, and it says it's on its way! No need to go to the polls on 4/28. I'll just fill it in and send it on its way.
  15. Greek yogurt has always been my sub for sour cream. I only eat it if there’s nothing else. I also use Greek yogurt (often mixed with quark or cottage cheese) as a substitute for mayo which I also don’t like.
  16. A friend of mine has a special needs kid and found that it was easier for her to get help (as in an IEP) once the family switched the child to the Catholic system versus public. Maybe it’s also a board thing.
  17. Your country's variance/"diversity" in beliefs on how kids are educated astounds me. Our education system is controlled by the province and we are doing okay. I guess it's also how schools are funded up here versus you guys. Yes, there are "good" versus "bad" schools, but that's really based on how families are in various neighbourhoods. Sure, a school in a low income part of Toronto may get the same funding from the province as one in a high income area, but EQAO (provincial testing) scores are likely very different. Kids from broken families versus not, family involvement (including advocacy and fundraising), etc...make a huge difference. ETA: Despite a more equal footing, I do notice that there's a difference between my son's (private) school and the typical public school, perhaps even in high income areas. Class sizes, for one. My son's class has 21 kids (that's already "big"), with a main classroom teacher and an assistant teacher who spends her time between his class and the other class in his grade. Public schools often have more (beyond the cap/recommended cap) with ZERO help for the teacher.
  18. Bloc may lose a few seats this time as well. The on-the-fence ridings are likely going to side Liberal more than Bloc. And I could see the Greens getting more than one seat. ETA: I think the world may end up getting educated about our political system, including other countries who use the Parliamentary system. Like which province tends to side with which party and what colours represent what side of the spectrum.
  19. I have a few friends whose daughters do this. I'm not too familiar, being a mom to a "traditionally boy" son (think mud, insects, trucks and stuff like that), but it IS a thing. My little guy is also tiny for his age...sometimes, I feel like he has to "prove" his masculinity by "playing rough."
  20. The NDP will likely lose seats, IMHO. Basically, this time around, you're either Team Mark or Team Nerd Boy.
  21. Well, it's official-official. We're heading to the (federal) polls in just over a month (April 28). I hope the turnout would be higher than "normal." The snap ONTARIO election we just had was fairly low. Being lazy, I'm going to vote by mail again. I live in a Liberal-safe riding, but will still vote to ensure that the party has a higher chance. My MP in the previous government was Chrystia Freeland and I'm expecting that she'll run again. The website to check what riding you're in/who the candidates are is currently down (not surprised, since the election was just called). Polls currently say that the Liberals and Conservatives are basically tied, with some saying the Cons are slightly ahead and others saying the Liberals are. ETA: This page shows the latest polls
  22. The entire forum switches back and forth between regular and bold font.
  23. Nope, no overnight stay for my procedure. I'm home now. Feeling a little off, but mostly okay. Resting for the rest of the weekend.
  24. How bad is the smell? I've only found that fish stinks if you microwave canned ones.
  25. https://www.thestar.com/politics/federal/mark-carneys-liberals-would-win-a-majority-government-if-election-was-held-today-poll-aggregator/article_838d6540-03e5-11f0-8832-7fa949ae4344.html Can’t wait to see the party leaders debate. re: World Cup - since it’s co-hosted by Canada, US and Mexico, is it possible that limit games in the US and move some to Mexico and Canada? Or is everything set?
