  1. Someone a few pages back mentioned that some women’s groups are claiming pink as the fighting colour? I always thought the traditional colour was white because that’s what suffragettes wore. I also wonder if You Know Who is going to be surprised when he received a call from our PM next week and it’s a different person (Liberals will be picking Trudeau’s replacement this weekend (only certain people get to do this)). And then there could be a general election (all Canadian citizens 18+) soon. Canada’s system of government: https://www.ourcommons.ca/procedure/our-procedure/parliamentaryFramework/c_g_parliamentaryframework-e.html ETA: we’re supposed to have an election by October of this year, but there could be one earlier.
  2. I know a few parents at my son’s school who have like cruises because they and the kids are confined to a spaces. But my family wouldn’t be caught dead in one.
  3. Speaking of dental issues, my son hasn’t had a visit from the tooth fairy in months. I think he’s lost a total of three teeth? And all three were pulled out. I think I only had to have one tooth pulled out because it was a “shark tooth.” Well, that and my wisdom teeth!
  4. It's official. There'll be a one month exemption on Big Three auto tariffs. That's not good enough - you're still going to end up with higher-priced cars. That said, there could be an export tax on energy to the US, from Ontario, anyway.
  5. I’m hearing both a total removal of tariffs for the automotive industry and a one month delay. The latter will do nothing to cut the cost of cars considering the parts issue.
  6. Looks like there may be some scaling back with tariffs, probably for the auto industry. At least that’s what I’m hearing on CNBC. I think it was the Wall Street Journal that said parts could go across borders several times before a car is even assembled!
  7. I caught my husband's cold. He was miserable for two days, but I think I have a less severe version of what he had. I'm not as tired and I'm able to do most things, including prepping for tonight's sheet pan sweet potato pancakes for Shrove Tuesday.
  8. Sending the note isn't sketchy in itself, but that site seemed that it could be a bit off. But maybe it's just a bias I have on those who homeschool.
  9. Isn’t it supposed to be really dense?
  10. The older generation wants to hold on to power for as long as they can! That's why it's hard to for GenXers and Millennials to be in charge of things, sadly.
  11. &Juliet will be part of the Mirvish 2025-2026 season as well! Other shows include Shucked, MJ: The Musical and A Beautiful Noise.
  12. I think some people TRY to understand, but just can't because they've never lived it. It's like how people who've never had to straddle between two cultures don't understand how people like me feel. It's not about code switching here. For some people, it can be done with relative ease. For others, it's a lot more challenging. Especially when they struggle with the family's language (not uncommon for children of immigrants. Or grandchildren when the parents have left them in the care of grandparents due to work/trip/adults only dinner). You can't code switch when it means NOT being yourself. For some reason, this is often left out of DEI training (and why I think the standard curriculum for DEI is extremely flawed). Perhaps it's because no one wants to acknowledge this exists? Or no one has been properly trained to deal with it/willing to train anyone? Note: There was a very interesting episode of My So-Called Midlife (from January) where it's discussed.
  13. No WONDER the Chinese community in North America used to think salad dressing and mayo were more or less the same thing. It’s the salad cream. I think some dim sum restaurants still call it salad dressing (but it’s slowly changing around here since we CBCs are often scratching our heads! Plus non-Chinese communities have dim sum as well).
  14. It’s my nickname for him. I also call him PM NepoKid. I get that he’s technically not a “junior” because his name isn’t Pierre but I call my son JrMintz online despite him not sharing his first name with my husband.
  15. IMHO, it's about 40% because she's a woman and 60% because of her link to Trudeau Jr.
  16. Maybe I'll do that. Too many out there, and so many triggers, too. Another thing for people to consider is to abstain from using the word "normal" to refer to a subset of people (it's usually socio-economically based) while others are not "normal." Unless you're talking about, say, Elon or the Orange Guy.
  17. I don't like sour cream, either. I'll have it if nothing else is available (e.g. if it's the only thing offered for latkes), but it's not my favourite thing to eat. Greek yogurt is a great sub though!
  18. Like I've said before, I don't know where I belong anymore. Therapy is helping a bit, but I feel like I'm on the fringes of society because I can't be one or the other, if you know what I mean (anyone who reads my writing will probably at least somewhat get it).
  19. I was going to go off Facebook for Lent but I have a weird feeling my next book would be ready to announce (ie I’ll have a mockup) before Easter. I was hoping that it would be ready even earlier, and good to go for Asian Heritage and Jewish Heritage Month (both in May), but I’m not 100% sure. It’s not culturally specific, but it’s about the same family as my first book, so it would make sense…..
  20. The Liberal leadership is basically between her and Mark Carney. However, the Liberal Party with Mark has a better chance at beating the Conservative Party in the next federal election, according to a poll from a few weeks ago.
  21. So JD was "forced to flee," huh? Can we all do that old playground chant of NANANANANAHHHHHHHHHHH
  22. So it's actually good? I have the cast recording and she just didn't sound....right to me. Glenn Close (and Diahann Carroll, who played Norma in Toronto) WAS Norma. The vibe was there.
  23. My parents act like it's really weird to meal plan. Or to batch cook and freeze. I think in their immigrant minds, things have to be cooked from scratch day of. They both worked, but we were lucky to have grandparents living with us, so they were the ones who did the cooking. I think that's one of the only reasons why I grew up eating fairly healthfully, with very little ultra processed foods. We were mostly shopping in the perimeter before that was a term.
  24. These "Brits" were mostly people from Canada. We always love to tell people that. 😂
  25. Speaking of mayo, if you go to a Chinese restaurant and a menu item says it comes with "salad dressing," 99% of the time, you'd be given some type of mayo. Until probably the 80s, if you said that you were going to make a salad, people would think mean potato. Note: I actually HATE potato salad. But it's probably because I don't like mayo
