  1. JMO, but I'd rather they make a good show as a whole than show me what Tobias Menzies can do. And he could have shown what he could do at Wentworth.
  2. This is sort of what I was trying to get at in my posts in Unpopular Opinions. How much time did they spend in the last episode on BJR and what makes him tick (I, for one, don't buy it. I think he is just a born psycho who was probably pulling wings off flies when he was a kid) to the point where I turned it off, while cutting scenes of the Jamie and Claire story which is, to me at least, THE story of Outlander. If I hadn't read the book I wouldn't get it at all. Outlander is a great story that women can enjoy without being too sweet and saccharine, but unfortunately is thought of by some as a bodice ripper romance. I think Ron Moore and Co. are bending over backwards so as to not make it into what might be termed a "chick flick" to the detriment of the story as a whole.
  3. Yes, it was in the books, as are many other violent and bloody scenes, (don't want to spoil anything but one scene gave me nightmares) so why add more? Or amp up what's there already? Since it's already been mentioned, it wasn't enough for BJR to punch Claire, she had to be kicked too. And heck, let's throw in an amputation while we're at it, and a beheading, and some crucifixions too.
  4. I said maybe to shows and movies. ;-) I hate that it was thought that shows like Dr. Quinn needed to be "violenced up" to appeal to male audiences. I think some of that is going on with the changes made to Outlander. I still prefer books written by women.
  5. At least I'm not the only Debbie Downer. ;-) I find the pace slower than slow and I'm bored with it, but I hate the changes and feel they are what's slowing it down. I just could not sit through BJR droning on and on and found the flogging scene unnecessary. As someone else pointed out, we've seen the scars and heard the story. Enough is enough. "Click." Also, neither Jamie or Claire are happening for me on the TV screen. IMHO the "love potion" scene (there's no place like love?) was cringeworthy. And the scene with the English officers....just no.
  6. I think I've figured out why I'm not liking this show, as I'm obviously in the minority here. Ron Moore. Or not him per se, just a man's viewpoint. With a very view exceptions, I do not like books written by men. Maybe I don't like their TV shows or films for the most part either. Just a quirk of mine I guess, but the flogging scene.... don't think it was necessary. I wasn't going to watch this episode but gave it another try. Ended up turning it off.
  7. Or evil "Quentin Collins" from Dark Shadows. ;-) She could have at least changed her dress for class.
  8. One thing about Sharon Penman is that she does her research and sticks as closely to known facts as possible while still having her point of view. You won't find Richard III and Elisabeth of York "getting together" here. Sunne in Splendour is a truly excellent book, in itself, and for learning about these characters. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Alison Weir is too biased for my taste and a bore as well.
  9. Yes, how many times do we hear, "Pa says, "Cash on the barrel" and that he makes it a strict rule, and then there's a plethora of episodes about the Ingalls being in debt. Speaking of which, The Richest Man in Walnut Grove" was on today as part of INSP's fan favourites marathon. That, and most of the other episodes make sense to me as fan favourites even if they all weren't favourites of mine, with the exception of "The Creeper of Walnut Grove". I HATE that episode. Can it really be that beloved out of all the episodes of this show?
  10. The Sunne in Splendour by Sharon Penman. That is all.
  11. Yuck. I just don't get these changes. I haven't seen one that IMO makes the story any better. I'm done with it. I'd rather re-read the first three books.
  12. Oh no, it HAD to be one of the WALTON women. Remember the young handsome single art teacher, who was probably beating them off with a stick and was obsessed with Paris, fell for house dress, sensible shoes, and cardigan wearing frump Livvie.
  13. I think we also need to keep in mind that Claire's just post WWII world was very far from viewing things as we do in 2014. Not saying it makes it okay (my parents were married in 1947 and my father wouldn't "let" my mother learn to drive....ugh!) but the forties weren't all that great for women. Better than in the 1740s, but not like today.
  14. I always thought of it as akin to "laying on of hands" healing or faith healing. I thought of the blue light as healing energy.
  15. I'm the same way (Oh how I loved the Poldark shows, but then I read the books....) and as someone that has read all but the last book, think I that is a great idea.
  16. I am one of her fans not like this, but I have to admit that Jane Austin is the only author who's work I prefer on the screen rather than in the books.
  17. Kind of funny that ME got Nurse Nora's sloppy seconds.
  18. Just watched "The Idol" last night and was again disgusted by selfish, special snowflake Elisabeth's actions. The poor woman was dying at a very young age from a brain tumour and all Elisabeth does is yell at her that she's a liar before giving her the silent treatment because the poor woman was leaving her. And everyone is tip toeing around "poor" Elisabeth. John does finally slap some sense of shame into her, but of course it has to be done gently. God I detest that little b***h! She needed a smack aside of the head.
  19. I couldn't have lasted for five minutes listening to Rev. Bradshaw scream and carry on. I do get a kick out of him being portrayed by "Willie Loomis" from Dark Shadows. Edited to say, "An eternity in HEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLUH!"
  20. Yes, the two Nurse Nora's. I have my theory as to why they cast a different actress for the second Nora but it could just be they couldn't get the same actress. Zeb really bugged with the make-believe heart attack. Why such a plethora of doctors on the mountain? Mary Ellen was always harping in about how much they needed doctors and nurses where she came from and there are too many doctors to keep track of and two nurse Noras. ;-)
  21. Lucindabelle, I have to agree with you. I was going to post something like this in Unpopular Opinions, but have hesitated because I felt so in the minority. I find the show incredibly boring most of the time and am finding it hard to stick with. I subscribed to Starz solely to watch this but am going to cancel after this season. If it shows up somewhere like Netflix (which I have already) I may binge watch at that point.
  22. Ouch, this hurts my heart as a woman! Reminds me of sitting around a table in Jr. High being told we were going to vote for the "prettiest girl" at the table. Sure there were older ladies at the table but they all seemed attractive enough and one blond was, IMO as pretty as Cait, though made up to look rough and not coiffed and wearing a gorgeous costume. Sorry, but JMHO.
  23. Just looked up Walton doctors on IMBD. Rance Howard (Ron's father) is listed as Doc McIvers. Didn't see a Doc Shackleford listed. And there are a bunch of doctors listed, Banin, Canfield, Lewis, that I don't remember.
  24. Doc Shackleford? I know the third doctor was Doc Vance because Mary Ellen wouldn't shut up about him when Curt came to town.
