The signage at the 2-lane version shows that the inside lane should be used if you're exiting at 9o'clock, and use the outside lane if exiting at 3o'clock or 12o'clock. Having 2 lanes allows more vehicles to travel around simultaneously, causing less of a back-up.

The only thing I hate about them is that many folks just can't seem to get the hang of it. I do believ that they can be downright dangerous for our older drivers, if unfamiliar with them. Someone above mentioned the 2-lane variety, which I prefer, as I can move around the folks frozen with fear, sitting in the inside lane waiting to see if there are any cars 2-3 miles down the road. 🙃

Okay, you asked... Your DH sounds like someone prone to victimhood, and should pursue a work from home solution. I mean no disrespect, but some folks just operate better independently. I don't work terribly well in an office setting, so I created a job which enabled me to work largely alone. Know your strengths/weaknesses and mold your life accordingly. It's either that, or he needs to thicken his skin. A lot.

To be fair, if they have a car, they have a phone. If they have a phone, there is a way to communicate their needs. Many just won't voluntarily relinquish that independence. I understand, but can't say "oh, that's okay then.". Not sure what society should do.

This is true. That's when the medical community needs to get involved. They will help when approached by family/caregivers, but would need to intervene independently when no one asks. I don't imagine that's happening.

To clarify, I'm not so much annoyed by the incapable drivers, as I am with their families who won't do the right thing by making other transportation arrangements for them. Again, I get how hard it is as I've had to do this twice.

I've long felt that it's one of the most difficult passages in the lives of families - to remove someone's driving privilege. Unfortunately, too few are willing to take it on, leaving to chance whether or not the obvious dangers will come to pass.

I used to think they were all selfish assholes, but I have also observed more than a few elderly, whose families haven't intervened, try unsuccessfully to navigate into a single spot.
