  1. I really liked the Queen and Lady Danbury and Mama Bridgerton being so heavily featured. Good roles for older women, yay! eta: OMG, I forgot Polly Walker who made me laugh out loud more than once!
  2. I feel like the best thing to do may have been to have Edwina realize her feelings were just infatuation because she sees what she really wants through a different suitor (which is much more like the book). That could have shortened the Anthony and Kate get together plot which did go on a trifle long and would have given Edwina a satisfactory ending. I do think the showrunners were trying not to do the obvious thing (which this is) because they are trying to avoid the “you can only find happiness in a man” trope for every woman on the show. But since its a romance it can leave stories like Edwina’s feeling unfinished and unsatisfactory.
  3. I don’t understand why Colin was all “Do you ever wonder what could have been?” It’s my recollection that Marina wasn’t in love with him either. Why would she be pining for their potential life together? I suppose she liked him more? Was he under the impression she was in love with him? If so, he’s not too bright.
  4. I think this is the best episode of the season. Actually of BOTH seasons.
  5. She’s like a perfectly programmed robot. It IS difficult not to feel frustrated with her.
  6. I rewatched a couple of last season’s episodes including the first one and I was startled to see that Pen as Lady Whistledown wrote that Colin Bridgerton was sweeping Marina off her feet. It seemed out of character for Pen who has always crushed on Colin. But we as the audience didn’t know who Lady Whistledown was at the time and I guess the writers were trying to keep people from guessing correctly too early?
  7. I also find it unrelatable that Daphne must have borne witness to her mother screaming her head off during childbirth and without her husband no less and she still only wants children more than anything? Really? I’d be scared shitless.
  8. I think this is an idea worth exploring. They could even have 10 episodes instead of 8 to properly do both stories at once. I don’t think one at a time is going to work in show world because the show is fairly different from its source material and certain characters just are naturally more compelling and have had much more compelling buildup through the story already.
  9. I hope they don’t follow the book. Things are loosely based on books all the time. I cannot see any way Eloise/Sir Philip becomes an item unless Eloise takes a sharp turn into botany.
  10. That’s why I think the Penelope/Colin story will be next. They have to address it now because it will be totally ridiculous to focus on Benedict when that is in the background.
  11. Interesting observation. I truly do not like Colin’s obsession with Marina, who I really dislike, in he show.
  12. I have rewatched the bee sting scene so many times. SO so good.
  13. I didn’t end up minding the whole getting to the altar thing because they really needed a reason why Anthony and Kate wouldn’t just get together. Nowadays, there would be no problem. Just date who you want! But back then, there was real scandal and repercussions with courting, calling off the wedding and then getting with the sister. They needed the queen’s approval to even consider it as it turned out. And I liked how Edwina’s utter poise in the unfortunate scene with the king made the queen realize what a true diamond she was. And in the end she helped her out. If Edwina is really in love with someone else the whole time there is nothing stopping Anthony and Kate and no real conflict at all. That’s not terribly compelling to watch.
  14. Simone Ashley is so beautiful, good lord. She and Anthony are GORGE together. I’ll be rewatching. I’m only sad it didn’t go on longer. I also suspect Penelope and Colin gets bumped to season 3. There’s no reason they have to stay in order of the books.
  15. Was Marina ever happy with anything?
  16. Flawless episode. Kate is SO PRETTY. Anthony was heartbreaking this entire episode. I am loving this season. Absolutely loving it! Dare I say I prefer it to the original. I don’t need loads of sex scenes, I prefer to watch it when my kids are around.
  17. I don’t miss Simon at all. It was one of the reasons I enjoyed Bridgerton but not THE reason. There were lots of others and they are in full force this season. The humor being number one. This show is goddamn delight and I LOVE it. and I love Anthony and Kate. They are more than a match for each other and I am totally here for it.
  18. I am THOROUGHLY enjoying this season so far. It’s so funny and the banter is top notch. I have laughed out loud in delight more than once. Colin must be really a dunderhead if he doesn’t know how Pen feels about him. She wears it all over her face.
  19. I think you have the measure of it. Did anyone watch the behind the scenes after the show? According to the actor, Raikes really did love Marian. I personally didn’t interpret it that way at all. Whoever said it’s hard to feel for Marian when she doesn’t seem to have any strong emotions about anything is right. At least in Sense and Sensibility you really felt for Marianne and Willoughby was a proper weakling and scoundrel. They really half-assed this one and it went over really limply. Oh well. I still really enjoyed this show and overall I very much liked this episode.
  20. I kind of liked Marion’s acting in the scene where Peggy reveals her secret.
  21. LOL, I didn’t see 1961 Tony dancing either. So I don’t buy him a member of any gang, dancing or otherwise. Also, Tony had a nice enough family to allow Riff to stay with them in the original. In the new one, Tony has to stay at Doc’s because he has nowhere else to go except prison. I prefer the new additions to the character backstories. They didn’t seem to have any compelling ones in the original and it was a good decision.
  22. OMG I thought Cool in the original was so dorky and is a highlight in the new version.
  23. I would add that the 1961 Tony is not the least bit credible as this guy with this reputation for being a punk. In the new version, I can see Tony as a former Jet. In the old version, absolutely not.
  24. Kind of crazy to read from the beginning of this thread and see the backlash to this movie before anyone had seen it. I’ve watched it twice already and it’s better than the original. In fact, I just rewatched the original and was wondering how murder results from a game of basketball gone wrong and writing Sharks Stink in chalk.
