  1. USAG isn’t dropping this and I am glad to see it. The last they can do is stand and fight for one their gymnasts given the failures of the past.
  2. Favorite moments: 1. Simone Biles. Everything Biles. And Suni Lee as well. The women’s gymnastics events were great except for one thing. 2. Janja Garnbret winning her second gold in climbing and Brooke Raboutou as the silver medalist. Wholesome friendships in climbing. 3. The star making turn of Pommel Horse Guy, who is the sweetest person.
  3. Christine Brennan says a resolution to this mess could come as early as today. Which to me is an indication that this is an out of court resolution/compromise. Brennan is extremely well-connected, as anyone who is a figure skating fan knows.
  4. And with this CAS current ruling Sabrina still gets nothing so I guess she’s still quitting then? Ana is the one who has been gracious during this mess. Sabrina definitely has not.
  5. I’m so happy that Romania has become such a stickler for rules! When they lied about Daniela Silivas’ age so she could compete underage they seemed not to care about quibbling over one or two years. How lovely that now that they got away with that with no consequences they are now the self-appointed leaders in following the rules right down to the second.
  6. They literally threw everything at a wall in the hopes that Jordan lost third place and then turned around all wide-eyed “who us? We want everyone to get a medal!”
  7. I certainly hope that everyone enjoys the litigious future of gymnastics especially as the scores are often decided by tenths and in a post-Simone world especially. Lawyers all around the world will certainly enjoy being thrust into the Olympic spotlight for the future.
  8. It’s nice to see the other girls on the team on social media calling out the judges and supporting Jordan. Times sure have changed and so much for the better. I
  9. Now everyone in the gymternet is in full meltdown. And to think we all thought beam was the biggest mess of an event final. This floor final is going down in infamy.
  10. FOUR seconds late. Yes, Romania is being petty. Can you imagine the backlash on Simone if the US were in the position of quibbling over four seconds? Romania can go screw.
  11. Being able to go back and do this shit after the event has ended is complete and total trash. THAT’s what makes the sport a joke in some people’s mind….not subjective scoring. Lots of referee calls in sports can be subjective. But if there’s an error and it skates through….well, with humans in charge that happens. This mess has utterly enraged me. Poor Jordan is taking a social media break and she is obviously devastated. Way to ruin the Olympic experience of someone who is always so positive and supportive. This is on top of the abuse she has received online. Romanian can take that bronze medal and cram it straight up their ass. Ana isn’t even the problem….she was extremely gracious. But many others tossed gasoline on this fire and can rot for all I care.
  12. And the queen wins again. What an amazing athletes Janja is. And Congrats to Brooke Raboutou! Also Ai MOri is just amazing at lead but Jessie Pilz really surprised me with her epic performance today.
  13. Not to get too into the weeds but she absolutely did rally herself. She came back in that compulsories meet to make the all-around and edge out Kerri Strug. Her dead-eyed floor was part of the rally, believe it or not. Many people forget Kim’s fall off beam in compulsories was not what killed her medal chances. Then in the all-around she shot herself in the foot by flying out of bounds on one of her passes…maybe the last one. Another exciting double back. Then she started making mistake after mistake especially on beam and was never in contention.
  14. The men’s’ boulder and lead event finals were fantastic. I expected Anraku to win as did most everyone and was so happy for Toby although sad for Colin. He had an incredible boulder round for someone who considers himself a lead specialist. I’m so lonely in here with my popcorn loving the climbing. It’s amazing to watch and very easy to follow for those who don’t climb. I find it so interesting that everyone in Tokyo despised the format and hoped to improve their standings when speed wasn’t part of the equation. But Jacob Schubert finished third in Tokyo and third here, Duffy was fourth in Tokyo and fourth here and Ondra was sixth in Tokyo and sixth here. Things didn’t really change for them.
  15. On the contrary I was deeply deeply entertained by it. it was like an SNL skit.
  16. Maybe here we all do! Everyone else in my life is like what on earth are you watching…
  17. Its funny you bring up Lillia, I was watching her floor routine on YouTube months ago (as you do if you’re….well, me) and I came across comments just ripping her for those “balletic” movements which people with actual ballet experience could see were….not great. But that’s apparently the key….be ballerina…on the ice, in the gym…you get that ballet in there you’re golden. If I wanted to watch ballet, I’d go see Swan Lake.
  18. It’s like we are the same person! LOL to your amazing description of Shushanova. It is absolutely right. And many of the 1992 floor routines fell into two categories….screechy violin “look at me I’m so ARTISTIC” routines, and then cutesy, cringey ones that made me want to hide behind a pillow in second hand embarrassment.
  19. Absolutely. And again, we’ve already been here in gymnastics so this isn’t even speculation…it’s absolutely where it goes.
  20. This era had to follow because the 10.0 system was a total joke. It had nowhere else to go. And Simone would have penalized under that old system first and foremost for her skin color and her body type not being some starved European. No. Thanks. Also, for those wondering why we can’t force the gymnasts to be artistic like rhythmic gymnasts, I wonder if anyone has even delved into the eating disorders that practically define that sport. When it becomes about “lines” a huge chunk of girls can forget about being successful no matter how well they point their toes. That is bullshit.
  21. Has anyone watched the 1992 events? Only the compulsories are any good from an “artistry” standpoint. The execution was often terrible in the air for the tumbling, which was a bunch of double backs and full twisting pike double backs, which besides being boring are ugly. Cowboy legs everywhere so “artistic” (read: taller and skinny) gymnasts can crank them around. Everyone going to pieces because they took one small step and destroyed years of hard work? No thank you, the entire training experience is not worth that. No wonder everyone was so high strung and miserable. I even watched 1988 and had to laugh at the judges indiscriminately chucking tens for routines with clear errors (if you were Russian and Romanian, of course!). I remember gymnastics back then fondly but actually going back and watching the reality is eye-opening. The way it is now is so much better. Simone has the difficulty and the execution. She gets penalized for her errors and it can cost her gold. I still think people are salty about how much higher her difficulty is and how lopsided the last 10 years has been but that’s what happens when someone breaks the mold. Everyone tries to catch up. I’d be ok with compulsories only because everyone does the same routine and it’s easy to compare one to one. But even then a girl’s body and the way it looks is going to out weigh the ones who have a different body type and that’s a road we’ve already traveled and it doesn’t lead the sport in a healthy direction. And Tara was the queen of pre-rotated jumps. Lucky for her she was “on” that night but that was beginning of the end for that sport.
  22. If speed climber Sam Watson ever needs to be played by a movie star, I’d suggest Timothee Chalamet for sure.
  23. Thanks a ton, Nadia. And also, go ahead and boycott the closing ceremonies. Knock yourselves out.
  24. I agree. If a Super Bowl is decided by a bad ref’s call, they don’t do a review and award a trophy to the other team. Errors happen in sports. It sucks but that’s the reality. The minute Nadia started tweeting this went way off the rails.
  25. I can fully see. Look, they both mentioned being thrown by it and it looks like Suarez did too. I know when I’m trying to sleep I cannot do so in dead quiet. EVERY noise is magnified and it’s weird. I always have my air cleaner going. So this doesn’t strike me as strange at all.
