  1. They've always had the songs specifically written for the show - I don't think they've ever tried to just find songs and shoehorn them in - whether or not they were written to fit specific scenes may be another story. Songs may have been written to fit something more generally happening in the artists lives than any specific scene. I suppose that's kind of the same thing but I think back to a song like Juliette's "Undermine" and how that was born out of her desire to move on from her cookie cutter, country pop princess image and be taken more seriously as an artist and writer. It wasn't so "Taylor Swift-like, instant gut reaction to this specific thing that just happened to me", which is what a lot of the songs now seem to feel like to me. It's not that they're necessarily bad, but they all kind of sound the same and not so unique to the individual onscreen artists who are supposed to be writing their own material. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with budget issues, because back in the ABC days they had enough so that they could get grammy winning producer T-Bone Burnett to oversee all of the music and find the best song writers who were similar to the shows characters to contribute songs that were tailored to those characters. Now I believe they have a set group of writers catering to all the characters, and while the songs may not necessarily be bad, the individual artistry of each character is being lost. It also doesn't help when the music largely gets shoved to the background in favor of stupid, hacky soap opera dreck.
  2. This is the one I was thinking of the most. Their chemistry and musical compatibility was so strong as soon as they got together that to not have them become friendly again at some point after the breakup makes me wonder. It's too bad if that's the case but it's not like it's never happened to onscreen couples before. Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepherd come to mind.
  3. Ah, ok, I must've missed the title card. I'm sure a second watch would've cleared it up. Thanks. Yes, if I hadn't watched all three episodes at once, my post in the Daughters thread would have been similar squeeing about Cole being Olivia's grandson. As it was, once this episode came around, it pretty much negated all that. In fact, @Daltrey, I had totally been waiting for you to watch this episode. @cynic that's too funny! After watching all three I figured that's what most people had done and I can picture everyone having that reaction as well. Apparently, @kariyaki was one of those people, lol! Loops, loops and more loops, lol! Yes, I believe that's the wibbly wobbly, timey wimey-ness of it all. Otherwise, I would have the same question.
  4. Totally agree, 100 % but I bought into it completely that Emma was Cole's mom and therefore, he was grandson to the witness. I'm so glad I was wrong, it made this episode just that much better for me. The only thing I'm a bit confused about is the very end of the episode when Hannah, Jones and Cole were sharing a drink in front of the fire and Hannah was talking about seeing both of them from a distance while she was out of her time; when did that take place, because it seemed to be before they splintered to New York to release the virus, meaning Cole already knew Hannah was his mother before she got shot. Did I get that right or …. did they have that conversation just before Jones sent Hannah back to 2009?....therefore meaning Cole still would have known she was his mom when she was shot? That's the only thing I am struggling with....otherwise, brilliant episode and I can't believe there's only two left. I know it would start to suck if it went much longer but I still don't want it to end.
  5. Yep. Fantastically brilliant. I feel like such a fool for my comments in the episode 7 thread, lol!
  6. Well...… at least someone remembered there's supposed to be music in this show...… even if it's nowhere near the quality it once was. I liked hearing Scarlett again; she seems to be able to sing with anyone. It was great to hear Lennon and Maisie together again too, they're much better together than apart. I too have been wondering if there's friction among the cast that's been keeping almost everyone segregated, to a certain extent. I didn't think I was going to like the Grandpa Clayborn storyline because it's just way too late in the game for that much new dramatic BS to be introduced, but it was resolved fairly quickly so, as long as it stays light, I think it should be fine. It can be part of their happy ending, unrealistic though it might be.

  8. I found this one a little dull as well. Not terrible by any stretch, but I did find it tough to stay engaged for the first half or so; I stopped it a couple times to do other things. So, Cole's mother, Marion Woods, is actually Emma; I'm a bit surprised no one else has mentioned it yet. I had my suspicions that this might be the case a couple episodes back, but I still enjoyed the reveal. In crazy 12 Monkeys fashion, the Witness turns out to be Cole's grandmother and Athan's great-grandmother, but is completely clueless to that fact. She wants to end time and all along, her own descendants have been trying to stop her! The twists are endlessly fantastic!
  9. You had said you were rewatching season one and that way back then, Jennifer had said "climb the steps, ring the bell". I was just joking that that was a spoiler for everyone who was going to go back and do a rewatch for themselves.
  10. Spoilers, LOL! ;) I thought it sounded familiar. I've been planning and looking forward to a rewatch series binge since the end of last season and the announcement that this would be the last .
  11. If you listen to the 12 Monkeys Uncaged Podcast for this night of viewing, Terry Matalas said that he wrote the line. He said he could tell when all the writers got that part in the script, because they all started laughing. Oh cool, I didn't know there was a podcast. I guess that's a big part of why he gave me a "like" when I Tweeted about it, lol!
  12. Not to be anal (pun intended), but the line was "Butt stuff only!" LMFAO!!! Cassie's reaction was so good it almost makes me wonder if Emily ad-libbed it and the reaction was more Amanda's natural surprise and shock. Either way, I love that the show went there; Jennifer never fails to delight and amuse.
  13. I know her as "Nora" from The Strain. I think someone upthread recognized her from something else. Oh...….I guess I'm too slow, lol!
  14. LMAO!!! That was about the only thing I was going to say about this episode. I lost count of how many times I rolled my eyes or said shutup to the screen. The writing is so bad it's like a shitty alternate universe version of Nashville. I'm not sure it's humanly possible for Avery to be written more out of character than he was in this episode. His whole response to the concept of the bro code and thinking that was only a "chick thing" is quite possibly the dumbest thing to ever come out of his mouth. He's never been shown to be that stupid or insensitive except maybe for the first season, but he's grown so much since then; that was a giant step backwards and to the left. When all is said and done, maybe there will be enough decent material with the main cast that someone can do a fan edit of the last season-season and a half and remove all the asinine garbage that none of us care about.
  15. It's intentionally ironic. Barry, despite his occupation and aptitude for the job, is , deep down, actually a decent human being with a relatively true moral compass, and he; trying to stick by it and even become a better person. Sally, by contrast, is a horrible, vindictive, shallow, selfishly entitled person, as is the rest of the cast to varying degrees.
  16. I seem to remember the divorce not actually being finalized, for some reason or another, but it's possible they just kind of hand waved and washed over it.
  17. Get out of my head! LOL!!! :D She is so damn fantastic! Like others, I was amazed at what a badass she apparently had become. I was a little thrown by the talking to herself in the earpiece but I thought, maybe she hooked up with an earlier version of herself; I can't remember how much of a no-no that is on this show. The reveal was brilliant! I laughed so hard that I had to rewind! Funny, it had the exact opposite affect on me. I thought, "Oh shit, Deacon is toast, that sucks! ….At least it's a time travel show so there's a good possibility he'll turn up again." LOL!
  18. I didn't find Daphne that hard to understand; maybe it was a conscious decision on Maisie's part as a means to portray the emotional difficulty of performing such a personal song? Things I liked: 1.Sean calling out Scarlett for being the one who's living in the past. Early in the episode she said something to the effect that he had to be a singer/songwriter because he was good at it and he clearly had something to say. I thought, hold on Scarlett, that's bullshit and you know it, because you were pushed the exact same way and you constantly say that you didn't want it and it wasn't meant to be, so why is it ok to push him? 2.Dagger-eyes Deacon giving Brad the death-stare while hugging the girls after Daphne finished her song-if looks could kill he would be burned to a crisp! 3.Daphne's song was decent. More enjoyable than much of the crap the show has produced this season. That's pretty much it, everything else sucked donkeys.
  19. THIS!!!!! Thank Christ, somebody else finally said it! Every rationalization she made was complete and utter BS; stringing Gunner along like that and throwing herself at Avery shows she's nothing more than a selfish, immature c**t. I'll be shocked if she actually turns down Brad's offer to go solo'
  20. 1.Althea saying she would punch Alicia in the cooch is quite possibly the greatest thing this show has given us. Maggie Grace can stay till the end as far as I'm concerned. 2.I hated Madison as much as anyone, but that's a testament to the writing, not KD's acting. If anything, I'd say her abilities amplified the stupidity inherent on the page. She may not be award worthy, but no one ever see's any keyboard warriors in front of a camera proving themselves to be better. 3.I'd like to thank half the board for making me feel like a genius.
  21. Ok, awesome; Up in the air is always better than a hard yes!
  22. This is my second favourite Pam after Archer Vice coke fiend Pam. They are Brilliant together. Guaranteed. Far more clever than "Pam, you big, dumb idiot.", lol! That hasn't been confirmed, has it? I haven't looked into it but I think that would suck, if that's the case. :(
  23. All good. Going back helped me to see little things that could have caused confusion. For example, The "blue bonnets" scene where the walkers attack Nick, even though it's washed out, the tree leaves are still quite clearly a pale green.
  24. Except in the episode where Nick was killed it was the past that had the washed out colors, except for blue, because, you know, "look at the blue bonnets, Nick." (Or whatever those blue flowers were that Madison pointed out.) So they aren't even consistent with the use of color as a time marker. Wrong. That's Episode 3, "Good Out Here"; I'm re-watching it now. It opens with Nick and the others cutting down and burning the bad crops, IN COLOUR, and then cuts to a WASHED OUT Nick staring out the window of the armored truck. Inside we see Luciana is driving while Nick and Alicia keep watch over Morgan, John and AL, who appear to be zip tied. It cuts back to Nick and Madison talking at the stadium, again in colour, before cutting to the washed out scene where they swerve to avoid the walkers and crash the truck. The present day crew splits up and Nick eventually runs off up the highway after the car until he reaches the field where everything is washed out except the blue bonnets. It cuts back to more Madison and Nick in colour as they head out on a supply run, then back to washed out Nick looking at the blue bonnets before being attacked by a few of the highway walkers that have caught up to him. The pattern has not changed; past=colour, present=washed out/black & white. The only possible explanation I can think of for the confusion MIGHT be due to Episode 4, "Buried". It opens with a washed out shot of the armored truck rolling down the highway at night. Everyone is sitting in silence, thinking about the events surrounding Nick's death. This is shown to us by intercutting footage of the day taken from Al's camera, which is in colour with a black border. Even though these events are part of the present timeline, having happened just hours earlier they are already in the past, which is why it makes sense to have the camera footage in colour. It's fairly impressive visual storytelling if you think about it, in my opinion. The only thing that doesn't seem to have a consistent pattern so far is which timeline each episode starts in: 1. Present 2. Past 3. Past 4. Present 5. Past 6. Present 7. Past/Present - we get a few shots of John and Laura's time at his cabin before cutting to the present day shoot out. Hopefully, now, no one else needs to feel confused.
  25. Awesome, Thanks for the clarification! That is exactly what I was driving at.
