  1. I thought they were referencing a planned/official ride along that Nicky did later in the series for a college course. It involved her getting way too involved in the call they went on and made the situation worse for the woman involved. Overall, I enjoyed the episode. I liked that we got to see the family dynamics in greater detial. Erin is the only one of the siblings who can maybe get through to Danny and I'm guessing it's been that way since they were teenagers. It was great that Jamie was able to offer insight into what it's like to grow up in Danny's shadow and how that may be influencing/impacting Sean. As soon as they went to the apartment to question the wife, I correctly predicted who the killer was. It's a shame that Sean couldn't just ask his father to do a ride-along with an officer and explain why he wanted to do it.
  2. I like the idea of him at Sunday dinner. I also like the idea of a one-off poker game with Anthony, Danny, Frank, Henry and Jamie. The reason I want a poker game is because Anthony seems to know some of the Reagans tells. Send Erin off to California to attend a legal conference/visit Nicki so there isn't an issue of why she wasn't invited.
  3. This was a good episode and a vast improvement over last week. I wished the questions they had asked the jury would have been less obvious. I liked it when they went for the oddball stuff like showing them a painting or asking questions that appeared to have nothing to do with the case. Bull and Izzy need couples therapy. Bull also needs one on one therapy. Seeing his sessions would be fantastic. At first they wouldn't go well at all, but they would be entertaining to watch.
  4. Riley is right. Al's story about being an international fruit thief is a pretty good pick-up line. Lizzie knows just what to say to people to get through to them. I liked that Al was able to get through to Riley with the line "I don't have room in my heart to worry about another person" (doing this from memory so it may not be the exact quote). Riley is an andrenaline junkie and needs to find a healthier outlet for it than dangerous jobs. Working so he doesn't have to deal with negative emotions probably isn't the healthiest thing. @Annber03-It's fantastic that he's in therapy with someone who understands him. I hope we get to see his sessions on a regular basis. Chet Hunter got OLD (I know it beats the alternative, but I was still surprised).
  5. She made the mental leap from counting fishes to counting cars. She remembered traffic cameras used for parking enforcement and that they could help her find Bull.
  6. I liked the new Youth Pastor. He took the time to get to know something about most of the children before he stepped in the room. He wants to be someone the children can trust with thier problems-when kids can't go to thier parents, he wants to be the person they go to and knows that will not happen if the kids think he is a spy for the parents. He thinks outside the box and knows how to get and keep the children's attention. George and Brenda did almost nothing and they are both acting like it was far worse than it was. There is no way George and Brenda are going to be able to have a secret long term affair.
  7. I think he wants to be accepted by the other men in his department/at his level. I got the sense that Coach Long and Lilian did not have the exact same job, and that she was doing something slightly different. In the original series there were maybe 3 or 4 dream sequences per season. I remember some of them, but not all of them. In this series, we are getting 2 or 3 dream sequences per episode. There are far more of them in this series than the original, which is a problem because as I mentioned earlier the length of a sitcom has decreased (same 30 timeslot, but there are more commerical breaks than in the 1980s).
  8. Fun fact: It costs the same to license the song whether you play the song in full or five seconds of it. I heard it and thought, that's half to a quarter of thier music budget right there (only slightly joking, but Beatles songs are expensive, even if it isn't the Beatles version of it). Somethings that confused me: What is Lillian's job? I do not understand what her job is other than it's something with money and accounts. Is it full time or part-time? This is going to come as more negative and nitpicking than I want it to, but it's how I felt about the episode. I am not a fan of the imagine/daydream spots. I understand that Family Guy is popular and has had a huge impact on comedy, but it hurt the show tonight. They could have used the time better. They only have 18 minutes and to me, the imagine spots are coming at the expense of the story. They don't add anything. Kim asking her mother to hem her skirt didn't come off as intended; it did not have the emotional impact it should have. I think part of my problem was that we did not get to see what Lillian was giving up because of the demands on her time (a magazine/book she wanted to read, or time to have a quiet cup of coffee or tea). "Take Your Son To Work Day" isn't a thing. "Take Your Daughter to Work Day" started in the 1990s. The line should have been something like "Today's the day I have to follow a parent at work for a school assignment." This episode was clearly inspired by "My Father's Office." That episode worked almost flawlessly, and this one didn't. Part of problem I had with "The Workplace" was that Act 1 didn't set up Act 2 as well as it could have. They should have set up that Dean does not know what his mother does for a living, how demanding the job is, and has never even been to her office. As cool as it was to see Bill and his band play, it didn't work for me. I did think episode did an excellent job of showing the pressure she was under and the office politics (for lack of a better term) she had to deal with as well as how isolated she was at the office.
  9. I hadn't thought about this before, but you may be onto something. In my head, Jamie is Frank's mini-me and Danny is Henry's mini-me. Now that I think about it, Danny has some of the worst qualities of Frank and Henry. (Danny has also some great qualities. I don't hate the character).
  10. Thank you! That is exactly what was confusing me about this plotline. The different parts of the timeline do not match up.
  11. That makes the most sense to me. We don't how much time elapsed between the affair/getting pregnant and when she had sex with her husband.
  12. Will and Leonard didn't get the negatives, which was a huge mistake. Will understands that wealth isn't necessarily the best enviornment for a child, especially a child that is viewed as a status symbol more than anything else. For Will, Tamara represents the road not taken. My prediction: Tamara will have something that she wants Will to quietly investigate this season, but of course he'll have to bring in Geordie at some point and promise that she can trust him. There was something about the Asper storyline that didn't make sense. Mr. Asper wanted to hide the fact that he adopted, but would anyone believe with multiple years of trying that suddenly at her age she would be able to conceive?
  13. Overall, I enjoyed the episode. I liked the Sister Francis subplot with her wanting to know more about the outside world and her desire to better connect with the women she is working with. The sailor story didn't make sense. The backstory (what happened before the events of the episde) to the best of my understanding is she has an affair and is already pregnant when her husband comes and she sleeps with him. She couldn't have been showing or too far along, because her husband would have noticed something. The episode starts and she is visibily pregnant. Why couldn't she lie about the date of conception? Why didn't she even try to pass off the baby as his? It seems like the timing might have worked out.
  14. I don't think we've been told where Sean is going to college, but there are enough college/universities in the New York Metro area that he could be going to school locally like Niki. I don't think we have been told where Sean is going to college yet. My guess is that the school year had not started or Jack had not returned for the start of the fall semester. Different schools start the semester at different times. I loved the Fonize reference, but I don't think it's as age dependant as you do. Nick at Nick used to show shows from the 1970s, like Happy Days. I am sure thare are tons of other places that showed it syndication as well.
  15. I understand the cyclical nature of American fashion. I realize 80s styles and trends were due for a comeback. I still can't believe pussy bows are back in fashion. Erin wore at least three of them in this episode. What do you make of Anthony's comment that people in the police department and other offices are speculating that Jamie will eventually become Police Commissioner? Is it true or was Anthony just giving Jamie a line to butter him up? Jamie and Eddie's storyline was stupid. It was drama for the sake of drama. Why would Jamie be anything less than supportive of his wife wanting to advance in her career and obtain a higher rank? It was fun to see Baker, Garrett and Sid present a united front, because that almost never happens. You would think that would cause Frank to take a step back and rethink his position, but no.
  16. Georgie is a bit of girl crazy horn dog, but when his family needs him, he's there. If he thinks his younger siblings are in danger or trouble, he will do what he can to help them. I completely agree with this. The way I saw it is that Connie may not like George, but she still loves her daughter Mary. She was never going to cut ties with her daughter over her choice in men. Also, whatever she thinks of George, Connie loves her grandchildren. She would never hurt or ignore her grandchildren because of George. This was a great episode. I can't wait to see where the season goes from here. My understanding was everything fell apart and went wrong after Sheldon left for school and was no longer living at home. As long as he is still living at home, nothing too horrible is going to happen to the family on this series.
  17. What a way to start the season. Everyone had a moment to shine, including Hazel in her own young way. She may not fully understand what's going on, but she's trying. I thought the last line was going to be about the rest of Al's family. His sister is out, but there's still his mother, his cousins, his neices and newphews, and other relatives as well. I somehow knew Hassina was going to get out okay. I'm really impressed Lizzie had access to a company credit card and was completely responsible with it. It's amazing that her personal life can be a total mess, but she's totally together and on top of it when it comes to work/her job. I wonder if Al will go to therapy later this season or maybe next season if there is one. I could see him having issues with survivor's guilt. "What makes me special? Why did I get out when others couldn't? I should have done more for my family."
  18. It would have been awesome. I have no idea why NCIS would be involved since I do not think anyone has ties to the Navy, but I love the idea. This episode was awful. It was not the series I started watching. The series had been drifting away from a unique courtroom drama series to a generic CBS procedural overtime. I am hoping the series returns to what it does best soon. Also, I wonder if they will hire another lawyer.
  19. Until I see him with gray hair in the summer/months after the show has finished production I maintain that the gray hair is not real and is the work of the hair/make-up department. That's my story and I'm sticking to it until proven otherwise.
  20. When Dean asked why his mother didn't look at magazines as much as she used to, I'm surprised she didn't say something like "Your father stopped touring and was home more so I didn't miss him." I know it was the late 1960s and a different time, but seeing a 12 year old mix drinks felt wrong. If he had refilling coolers/buckets with ice and beers it wouldn't have bothered me, but it was uncomfortable seeing a 12 year old play bartender. The blue light party looked like a lot of fun. We learned that the older brother's name is Bruce; it may have been mentioned before and I just missed it.
  21. I don't think Danny scoffs at it since it was his idea to see Maggie. I think he's skeptical, but willing to give it a try when he can't come up with anything else.
  22. To answer your question "what are these guys thinking?" They are not thinking. They are in love and love has made them stupid. My guess is that someone in the congregation agreed to bring Dickens into thier home for a week or was visiting the vicarage multiple times a day to take care of Dickens. If anyone in Grantchester found out about Leonard and Daniel it would be all over town and Leonard would be finished. There would be no way out for him.
  23. I'm willing to chalk up the convenience of the situation to, "it's TV, roll with it," but not everyone is and I understand that. You raised an excellent point of what is holding them back. If they wanted to get married, no one would stop them. Everyone around them supports thier relationship. The only thing I can think of is that Cyril is worried about being able to provide for Lucille and wants more finanical stability before marrying, or maybe Lucille isn't ready to trade being a midwife for the responsibilities and obligations that come with being a pastor's wife.
  24. I thought cut scenes only happened with Call the Midwife. Has PBS been cutting scenes from Grantchester as well? I can't begin to count the number of times over the years I have been watching this series that I've said variations of "Leonard, you're not that stupid." Leonard's big mistake was going back to the photographer. When he initially shut down the advance, the photographer was probably thinking he misread the signs and maybe Leonard was actually into women after all. Gaydar isn't perfect. The photographer would have probably left it alone. Leonard's fatal error was going back to the photographer to apologize. After that, the photographer had confirmation that Leonard was gay. The photographer was acting out of anger and desire for revenge. It should make for a tense storyarc this season.
  25. The only way it makes sense is that he is the pastor (I hope that's the right term) of thier church. Often times clergy get housing in exchange for thier services (the church provides a place for him to stay). When looked at in that context, it makes sense. They both seem proper, so I doubt more than dancing and possibly kissing will happen. I imagine nothing more intimate than that will happen until they get married.
