Media And Beyond: News for The Book Of Boba Fett
Sarah 103 replied to Meredith Quill's topic in The Book Of Boba Fett
I'm guessing the Mod Vespa teens are the next round of merch. As soon as I saw them I thought, "Of course the vespas are in different colors. That way they can sell more toys and people can collect the whole set." Do you think the Mod figures be sold seperately or will be a set with a figure and a Vespa? -
I totally agree with your characterization of Michael. Connie is younger. The birth years of the siblings: Sonny-1916 Tom (I've seen some sources that say 1917 and others that say 1916) Fredo-1919 Michael-1920 Connie-1928 The boys are very much a cluster born close together, and then there's a huge gap between Michael and Connie. Also, this new production history of the movie is fantastic. It's amazing the movie was ever made and turned out as well as it did. As I was reading it, I was thinking of the miniseries and thinking "they have to include this" or "I really hope they include that" https://smile.amazon.com/Leave-Gun-Take-Cannoli-Godfather/dp/198215859X/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=leave+the+gun+take+the+cannoli+book&qid=1644996222&sprefix=Leave+the+Gun%2Caps%2C125&sr=8-1

I realize and acknowledge this is me overthinking/over-analyzing the 1937 Disney film. Snow White is technically a princess but her cruel stepmother the queen didn't treat her like a princess. She treated her like a servant and was forced to cook and clean, so Snow White did know useful non-princess skills. When Snow White found the dwarfs cottage, she was desperate for a place to stay and offered to cook and clean and earn her keep, instead of pulling rank and saying she was a princess that that they had to do what she said because she was royalty. I like some of your ideas of how to fix the movie for a 2020s version.

S01.E07: Chapter Seven - In the Name of Honor
Sarah 103 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Book Of Boba Fett
I would never have thought of this as a spin-off, but it could work and be brilliant. It's a classic workplace sitcom, like Taxi or Wings. It would work best with 20-30 minute episodes. She needs another person to interact with on a regular basis. I'm thinking maybe while she does most of the work in the garage on ships, there is someone else handling the books/financial side of things that we haven't seen because for the stories she has been in so far, that part of the business isn't important. All of the characters she has to deal with, what her love life is like, this would be fantastic and I'm now slightly dissapointed it doesn't exist. -

This is what I want. Give me the Cobb show with occasional cameos by Boba and Fennec. That doesn't really mean anything. They might have planned for multiple seasons but after the feedback/response, they may decide it's a one and done and season 1 is the only season we get. -

That's an excellent point. I feel like the writers went in without a clear plan or an endpoint in mind. Boba's band of misfits could have worked if they had done a better job of setting up/allowing the viewer to get to know the various characters or groups and form some kind of emotional attachment with them. With only seven episodes, they introduced the big bad way too late in the season. I completely agree with this. This show does not deserve a second season. A spin-off based on Cobb at any point before or after the events of this series would be fantastic. I had never thought about this way before, but you are absolutely right. -
I totally love this idea. It's Gladys falling in love with a younger version of her father. He doesn't have wealth or social acceptance among the elite, but he has vision, drive, and ambition.
-
Larry doesn't need help. He is doing just fine. He has a job with his father, an excellent education, and is being invited to Old Money parties/making friends with the younger generation of Old Money. I agree with you that Gladys is where her mother's plans will sink or swim. Everything depends on getting accepted so that Gladys's party can fill the ballroom with the right people, so that Gladys will be invited to all the right events, and so that Gladys can marry someone Old Money or with a title.

S01.E07: Chapter Seven - In the Name of Honor
Sarah 103 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Book Of Boba Fett
You summed up the issue incredibly well. This was something I thought Solo did an excellent job of. They would mention a planet that I hadn't heard of before, but it didn't matter that I hadn't heard of the planet before. For someone who was more familiar with the larger Star Wars universe, they may have read the novel/comic book/seen the show where it was mentioned and it had a deeper meaning. Here's my theory there are mods that are useful, but expensive. The Vespa riders have mods that look cool, but aren't actually that useful and probably not that expensive. It's the difference between going to a professional tattoo parlor and the free temporary tattoo you find in a cereal box, only the mod is more permanent whether it's cheap or expensive. -

I'm not great at detecting sarcasm on the internet, so apologies if I'm not getting the joke/misreading the tone, but in the The Magnificent Seven, you do see who is attacking the village and you understand why the locals are seeking help in protecting/defending the village from the bad guys. Maybe Grogu can use The Force to push the button, but because he is not driving, he is being well behaved, asking permission to go fast and not doing anything until Din increases the speed. -

I totally agree with this. Grogu is a little thrill seeker/adrenaline junkie. I do not think this series was totally/completely/fully thought through. I undestand that Boba Fett is a fan-favorite and the idea of building a series around him looked good on paper, but I don't see how this series made it as far as it did without anyone seeing all of the problems that we on this board noticed/commented on in every episode. I don't think it took long for Grogu to figure out what he wanted. Grogu's face is so adorable and expressive that I do not want it hidden behind a helmet. This was part of my problem with the episode and the series overall. It felt like the creative team wanted it to be sort of an organized crime/gangster series, but then they got partway through the series and realized that wasn't working, so they tried to pivot to space western and at the last minute do a finale that's The Magnificent Seven, but it didn't work because it wasn't properly set-up. Part of why The Magnificent Seven works is that you get to see the interactions/relationships with the different characters build and develop over time so by the time you get to the big showdown, it has an emotional impact. Also, The Magnificent Seven set up who the villian was early in the story. I wish Disney understood that not everyone is coming to this having read/watched all of the new novels and animated TV series. That was part of what was so wonderful about the first season and half of The Mandalorian. You could come in having only watched the original trilogy and everything would have made sense. They were far and away without the question the best thing about this series. If they hadn't turned up, I would have stopped watching this series after episode 4. I completely agree. I don't understand whey they didn't just give The Mandalorian an extra three episodes. It would have been less expensive than 7 episodes of this series. With a few extra lines of dialogue and some small changes here and there, they probably could have started the new season of The Mandalorian with episode 5 and episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett. I totally agree with all of this. This would have been a million times better than the show that actually aired. Show us his crazy/dangerous adventures as a bounty hunter. That would have been fantastic. It would have drastically and dramatically improved the series. I totally love and understand the idea of Han being uncomfortable in unifrom. I'm not being critical; this is a genuine, honest, pure question from someone who loves ewoks. (I am looking forward to 5/4/23 because I am hoping for some cute, fun, affordable ewok merch). Why would there always be multiple Ewoks around Han? I feel the exact same way you do. I want Grogu sitting next to Mando, but tapping on the glass was adorable. I wonder how many times Mando had given into Grogu's desire to go fast before the moment we saw. This is only a guess/speculation. George Lucas had very strong and passionate feelings about sound/sound design. Since he is no longer directly involved in the production/making of Star Wars projects, maybe there is less attention being paid to how things sound. Something I did not like about this episode was that the fight scene/scenes went on too long and I got bored with them. -
The bed buddy is John Adams the something (He is supposed to be a direct decedant of the presidents and there is a number after his name, but I am not sure what it is). Maybe. The children do not seem as invested in the Old Money/New Money divide as thier parents. In the first two episodes I got the sense that they would not openly oppose or defy thier parents/parental figures, but would try to find ways to see each other. The children may grow up to be snobs, but the snobbery would more likely be based on whether or not someone has money, and do they know the proper way to act and behave in society. When/how the money was made may be irrelevant to them. Did life insurance policies exist back then and did they pay out if it was a suicide? We know Larry recently graduated from an Ivy League School (Harvard or Princeton, I can't remember which), so they've had money for 4 years at least. My take on Agnes hiring Peggy was that Agnes thought that Peggy was worthy of help. Peggy was not a poor homeless begger in rags coming to the door asking for charity. Peggy had worked hard to recieve an education and attempted to become a contributing member of society, which Agnes approved of. Agnes saw that Peggy was attempting to look respectable/presentable and valued those traits. (This ties into some dated/messed-up ideas of charity and distinctions between the deserving poor and the undeserving poor).

If Mrs. Chamberlain's child is a son, than he is probably working and has a life/home of his own. We have only see her during the daytime at women's events. Ada mentioned the child was adopted into the family, but everyone knew the child was born out of wedlock, so that would indicate the child was raised as a member of the Chamberlain family. If the child was a daughter, she may have married someone and moved out of state. Old New York Money with a scandal may have been easier to start over with money in a new place.

I agree he wouldn't choose a servant for his mistress, but there are more options than a servant or someone from his own class. I am horrible with math, but I think this is about the era when John F. Kennedy's grandfather on his mother's side (Rose Fitzgerald's father-Honey Fitz) would have been having affairs with chorus girls, so someone from the world of entertainment is also a possibility.

I am confused. I didn't think investing in New Money made someone part of the New Money crowd. Oscar is Old Money. If Oscar buys stocks in railroads or oil and increases his fortunte, he is still Old Money. Could someone tell me if my understanding is correct? Each glass/drink is for a different course too, if I remember correctly, except for water. I don't think water goes with a specific course of the meal. I think there's another element to this plot of "old money rules, new money drools," which is the younger generation. Oscar and Marian have no problem with New Money. Larry was invited to the Old Money Newport party, so he isn't being completely shunned by the Old Money crowd. The Astor daughter seemed to hint there might be a benefit to socializing with New Money. I am curious to see how this subtle intergenerational battle plays out.
-
Agreed. Oscar is somewhat pragmatic. This was the part of the episode that I loved. Bertha and George have each other's backs. You mess with one, you mess with them both. They will help each other and defend each other. They are a major force. I think she is supposed to be around 17 or 18. I wonder if we will see her do this again. She submitted her stories to black publications, but they either rejected her or did not write back. This is my prediction for the season finale as well. I'm not sure what happens to Ada, but I am sure Oscar would keep Marian around, because she is an excuse to meet women. He can meet women through her, like friends who stop by for tea. My guess, and this is only a guess, is that Larry isn't working side by side with George. Larry is working in a different department/part of the company so we wouldn't see him in George's office.

S01.E06: Chapter Six - From the Desert Comes a Stranger
Sarah 103 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Book Of Boba Fett
I agree that this show was a major dissapointment. In the first Godfather movie, even though you don't really see Vito Corleone do more than sit and talk to people, you get the sense that Vito Corleone is someone with power and a force to reckon with. I don't get that sense from Bobba Fett. If they wanted to make Boba Fett bad at being a gangster/leading a criminal organization, take a page from Goodfellas and show everything go wrong (only have it go wrong over the course of a season instead of a single day) and admit that the character is in over his head and failing. -
I think it felt unnatural because the friend was slightly younger than Henry and was supposed to be in excellent shape. This episode reminded me a joke I heard a stand-up comedian tell at a show. The comedian had recently turned 60 and said something like "I read the orbituaries differently now that I've turned 60. I see that someone was 92. So young, was he killed by a bus?" For years I've been pretty sure the series finale will be a multi-part episode that deals with Henry's death.

S01.E05: Chapter Five - Return of the Mandalorian
Sarah 103 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Book Of Boba Fett
I stayed with the series hoping it would improve, and it did by becoming a totally different series. My theory is that gangster stories are different from westerns and being able to write something in the style of one does not mean you can write something in the style of the other. -

I agree with all of this. If they needed to do a series that set up a confrontation with the Pyke Syndicate for the next season of Mandalorian to work, a series centered on Vanth trying to maintain law and order in the frontier town while the Pykes begin to play a greater role in the surrounding area would have been much better than the series I have actually been watching. Like you, I've never read the comics, novels, or watched any of the animated series, but as soon as I saw Cad Bane I knew he was bad/evil and that were in for an old-fashioned/old-school shoot out on main street, and I loved every second of it. -

Maybe it will all make sense after the season finale, but as of 1.6, I don't understand why The Book of Boba Fett needed to exist to set up season 3 of The Mandalorian. The Book of Boba Fett 1.5 could just as easily have been the start of The Mandalorian season 3, and the information about the Pyke Syndicate running spice could have been conveyed in a quick scene with a few lines of dialogue. We didn't need the first four episodes of The Book of Boba Fett to accomplish that. -

I think the creative team wanted to tell a story about gangsters and the criminal underworld, but then realized they were far better at doing space westerns/The Mandalorian so they went back to thier strengths and that explains the previous two episodes. I was kind of hoping for something like Goodfellas in space, and that version of the The Book of Boba Fett didn't happen. I think it's beyond adorable. I'm wondering how long before Build A Bear makes a version of the chainmail shirt for the Grogu plush they sell. I totally love this idea. It would have been a much better series than the one we were actually watching for the first four episodes. Each character/group of characters gets thier own episode and then somehow all the stories intersect in the season finale. An episode totally focused on the staff and regulars of the cantina would have been great. I could've spent a 45 minute episode with the Mods and what thier day to day life was like before Boba Fett recruited them. It would have been cheesy, but entertaining. A full episode on Cobb Vanth trying to maintain law and order and keep the peace in his little corner of the galaxy would have been fantastic. Cobb Vanth was fantastic. It felt like they had a list of classic western tropes and were picking the ones they wanted to include. I loved it. My understanding (and someone who is far more familiar with the Star Wars universe can correct me if I am wrong) is that regular, normal people have force sensitive children, and the Jedi identify who those children are and then train them from a very young age. I really enjoyed The Mandalorian. I wasn't enjoying The Book of Boba Fett until it turned into The Mandalorian. Maybe the writers are just better at space westerns than space gangster stories. To the dogs in my neighborhood, I would like to apologize for the sound I made when R2D2 first came on screen. I was so happy! -
I am so confused about Keisa. She wasn't interested in wearing dresses until Kim let her borrow one she had outgrown. Was Keisa's problem dresses in general, or the style of dress? If her parents were really religious or strict, would they be allowing her to wear men's clothes? She's almost always wearing her brother's jacket. In 1968, I thought young women wearing jeans/pants to school was a fairly new thing. How did her parents feel about Keisa wearing make-up? It seems like they wouldn't have approved of it based on what we know. We had "When a Man Loves A Woman" and another 60s pop song at the dance that I can't remember right now, plus "With a Little Help From My Friends" earlier in the season. I think it's safe to say that's a good chunk of the music budget for the entire season. Kim is awesome. Can we let her do voice-over for an episode? Can we reboot the series in season 2 to focus on Kim?

Oscar can't be too much older than Larry because they were at the same party in Newport, and that seemed like a young crowd. Why are people assuming that Oscar is 40, and not 30? I agree. Although they would be plenty of people in that era to tell Gladys there are far worse things than a husband ignoring her (which is equally awful in a totally different way). Larry is older and he is of age. Larry went to Harvard when he mixed with old money. I'm guessing the invitations he is getting are coming through classmates/friends, not through thier parents. I am sure many of the mothers are horrified that thier sons are inviting new money people to parties. Gladys is still not yet of age/out in society, which is why she isn't allowed to do much.

If they are setting it in the 1954-1955 school-year, then it has to be a one season mini-series. Rizzo and her friends will start the next year, and everyone watching this show will expect them to be part of the series. I don't know why they changed it. The idea of a series about Rizzo and her friends starting the Pink Ladies had potential. I am not sure how I feel about the new direction the series has taken.
