Sly has a very firm grasp on the difference between the real world and the fictional world. He knows what is possible/realistic when it comes to Cabe's trial and what is a long shot. Did anyone else think the woman at the nursing home was going to turn out to be Collins in disguise?

We'll know if they've been Chuck Cunninghamed when Bonnie and Adam get married. If they don't appear and their absence isn't explained by a quick line of dialogue, then we will know that they have been completely erased from the show. I could see the writers bringing back the episode for an episode or two each season.

We at one point Sheldon's father was like that, but we don't know when the behavior started/when Sheldon started becoming aware of that. What Sheldon described could have happened between the start of Young Sheldon and the start of Big Bang Theory. I love that Sheldon didn't say anything about Missy wanting to tag along. I have mixed feelings about Tam being so desperate to get into the party that he'd take Missy as well. I like the Georgie is a good older brother to his younger brother and sister. His first reaction to seeing them was the right one-bring them home immediately.

Yes. I liked the idea of showing Bull working alone without the team, but my problem was we really didn't see him working alone. Your idea of everyone off on their own having a little mini storyline is great. I could picture Bull getting lonely without the team and trying to get a group together but everyone has plans or is already married with a family and can't get away. I'm not sure either. I thought he was going to visit family, so at first I thought she was niece. Maybe the woman is a good family friend so she and her daughter are included as part of Chunk's family's Thanksgiving dinner. The plot line needed some more explanation.

I think there are legal protections, but they are not firing her. Someone has to do her job while she is out on leave. The big issue will be what happens when she goes back to work.

That makes sense. Also, if Danny is going to be the one to find the dead body, it's going to have a greater emotional impact if it was someone that Danny knew and saw on a regular basis. True. So maybe Frank talks about how how much easier it is today and that what the people are patrol are facing is far easier than what he saw/head to deal with during the 1970s. That gives Henry a chance to say, not necessarily, and point out some out of the downsides to politically correct policing and cultural sensitivity.

I love this idea; it would have made a great season long story-arc if the series still did those. Question: Would you have it be someone in Danny's precinct or in Jamie's? I actually think Frank would be the one who would have understood it best. (I'm bad at math/the show has continuity issues). Frank is the one who would have seen the worst of it. He was walking a beat during the 1970s, the era of gritty New York City and "Ford to City, Drop Dead." Not that he ever would go down that path, but he could understand why someone would. I think Henry would be appalled and opposed to it. Henry seems to be more about loyalty and a "you don't walk out your men/you tough it out" kind of guy. The topic/related topics would have made for some epic Sunday night dinners. Overall, I found the show tonally strange. Normally the show is really conservative, but for the first half hour or so it actually felt a little bit liberal. Also, I loved that Henry smoked pot at the jazz clubs back in the 1960s.

I love the old school MacGyver it was supposed to be my day off plots, so I enjoyed this, even though I know it was pure silly fun. I want to see more of Sly in the courtroom with his newfound confidence and possibly a dash of My Cousin Vinny. He reminds me of some actors, when they're in character they're fine but they struggle in the real world/having trouble being themselves.
-
That's too funny. The show has been consistently conservative for multiple seasons. It's not a big thing, just part of the show's DNA the way Hill Street Blues was liberal.

I was talking to someone about Christy taking LSATs already, and she brought up something that could make it work. If she was going to school year round and taking online classes, then it's possible. If you're searching for an in universe explanation, it's the best I can come up with. If Bonnie gets married, do you think Roscoe and Violet would be there for the wedding?

I don't think it's a case of smarter than she lets on. We don't know what kind of grades she gets. If I remember, she was struggling in math. She could be a mostly average student but as you pointed out, no one would notice because Sheldon is her brother. On the other hand, she has a far greater degree of emotional intelligence and savvy. Missy may be my favorite character on the show. I think it's great they decided to have her share a room with Sheldon, because that opens up so many possible storylines/possibilities.

Because romantic love makes you stupid; it's the basis for many noir plots and a bunch of rom-coms too.

Agreed. He clearly likes her, but it will take him awhile to act on it, especially because he still has feelings for Megan and I am not sure he will ever truly be over her. Agreed. I like the idea of Sly and Ralph as geniuses awkward in love and trying to have a real relationship. A double date would be so cute, expect it might be weird for Patty because she'd be going on a double date with her sort of boss. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they need her help. Once she spends time with them working on a case and seeing it from the inside, I'm sure she'll have a better understanding of who they are and what they do. How long before Patty gets her first tardy due to team Scorpion? They keep bringing it up and I feel like it's bound to happen. I think it's great that Walter doesn't Ralph to grow up to be an emotionally damaged/immature person. Walter wants what's best for Ralph.
-
Your idea is wonderful. I didn't fully understand what you meant. I could totally see it happening for multiple reasons. Wheaton is a big enough star that the new Professor Proton showrunners would want to keep him happy within reason. Hiring Penny would fall into that category. Wheaton would do it because he likes her and wants to help out a friend. It would also drive Sheldon crazy which for Wheaton would be another good reason to do it.

I am really very sorry if this next statement makes anyone feel old. Please tell me those pictures are really good photoshop jobs. He couldn't possibly have looked that bad/ridiculous in the 1980s. This could work in a really interesting manner. Instead of the usual Frank story, Danny story, wildcard (which usually goes to Erin or Jamie,) it would be Frank story, Danny story and a Joe story.

S01.E02: Rockets, Communists, and the Dewey Decimal System
Sarah 103 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Young Sheldon
Me too. Mary spends her time worrying about Sheldon, and Georgie the athlete has more in common and probably spends more time with their dad, so Missy feels jealous of Sheldon, especially because as a girl, Missy feels like she should have dibs on time with their mom. Missy is wonderful. I really like what they are doing with her character. I think the fact that they are sharing a room opens up all sorts of potential for great scenes. But that's cities, not a small town/suburb. A more isolated suburb/small town or rural area might very well be behind the times in terms of fashion and trends. I think many of the stories we heard about on TBBT will happen later. People change overtime. I think Missy resents the attention Sheldon gets more so than Georgie. I don't think most teenage boys are really eager to spend more time with their mother/have their mother more involved in their life. I agree. Also, he's still in the neighborhood so there's the still the potential for bullying outside of school. I imagine Sheldon might get dragged to church events or his brother's football games where he would interact with people his own age and create situations where he could be bullied. -
I really hope so. There's too many fun plot ideas for them not to. I get that they have seven main cast members and that it's really hard to have all of them in a scene together because it makes getting proper coverage a nightmare, but I don't understand why they have to divide them up the way they do. It shouldn't feel like Howard and Bernadette are off on their own show. It would be nice if they could mix up the pairings/groupings a little more often. I think it would be funnier if he asked Amy to be a technical consultant, because who wants to work with Sheldon if they don't have to? Penny as his assistant would be funny, but it depends on how they do it. I would find it kind of sexist if they did a version of the dumb blonde girl who needs things explained to her. If they passed her off as a lab assistant or some kind of scientist in training, I'd be okay with that. I thought it would be really funny if it had been Amy. Where I thought the episode was going was that Amy would be part of the audition tape, and the people casting liked Amy better. The words I pictured them using to explain their choice would have been "approachable," "normal," and "average," plus they liked the idea of girls watching and seeing a version of themselves as the host/lead. We know Howard gets sick if he eats peanuts but do we know he can't be in the same room with them without being sick? Is "Chaos" a reference to Leverage? I came to that series after it ended but I throughly enjoyed it.

She would graduate college this year. I have no idea what her course load was like. It seems impossible because while she could have been going to school year round, it would have been part time. Roscoe has been living with Baxter and Candace since season 4. Early in season 4 Violet got back together Luke. She moved in with him. I like the new opening. The show focuses more on the group from AA than Christy's family, so to me the new opening better reflects the nature of the show. I think Bonnie may end up marrying Adam. This is a sitcom, so I can totally picture something happening to Adam's apartment and he ends up moving in with Bonnie and Christy. I could also picture them moving. I'm not sure where, but Bonnie's job and the apartment isn't 100% necessary to the plot. You need Bonnie and Christy living together, but the where isn't too important.

My in universe explanation is that he's spent a lot of time around lawyers and the legal system.

S05.E12: The World Council of Churches
Sarah 103 replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in The Americans [V]
I think it's worth remembering that the second generation will not be doing what Philip and Elizabeth do. The second generation will not be sneaking around, breaking into buildings, and doing the exciting mission stuff. The point of the second generation is to get people into government agencies to act as intelligence gathering/sources of information. -
One of the reasons I watch the political conventions every four years is to see the balloons drop. I was waiting to see how the balloon drop would figure into the episode, and was pleased with the result. I didn't see the episode title before I watched it, but as soon as the bad guys took hostages and Cabe was in the tank I squealed "They're doing Die Hard." When Cabe first went into the tank, I thought it was going in a different direction. I thought the guy near the booth was going to be a bad guy who would steal Cabe's phone and trap him in the tank. That's exactly where I thought it was going too. On the other hand, this way the writers can do their own spin My Cousin Vinny if they want to. There's going to be a ton of procedural stuff Sly is going to get wrong/not be aware of. In that type of situation, there's only so much you can learn from books.

S11.E05: The Collaboration Contamination
Sarah 103 replied to Bort's topic in The Big Bang Theory [V]
I always love when they put Sheldon in the role of child. It's not terribly original, but it always works and gets a laugh. Bernadette knows that Howard loves her and that he would never cheat on. Howard loves her. He also knows Bernadette would kill him slowly and painfully if he ever did. I thought it was. I read Tom Sawyer in middle school and thought that was still pretty commonly read. Huck Finn is far more controversial and not the staple it used to be. -

When he said Neil Sedaka, I thought "wait, I thought they were both big fans of Neil Diamond." I wonder if it was a licensing issue and "Calendar Girl" was cheaper than "Cracklin' Rose." The only thing I can think of, is that since Sheldon skipped so many grades, he skipped the grade where his school/school district read Tom Sawyer. I thought the Sheldon/Amy double entendre conversation was funny too.- 90 replies

Just because she wants one doesn't mean she's getting one. You can string out this storyline for years. You could have a season where they try to conceive a baby, which means subplots about timing, fertility treatments, and false positives, but nothing works for them. Based on Happy's background, it wouldn't surprise if me they decided to look into adoption. You could then do a season or two about adoption, so you have them looking into different options (foreign or domestic, private or through an agency, open adoption or closed adoption), things falling through, and then during the series finale they finally adopt a child.
