  1. Polka! Now that's a dance I'd love to see thrown into the competition! lol
  2. thank you. That is a beautiful way of explaining it. That hand positioning is important to the overall look of the dance, it shows polish and finishing.
  3. Oh, I so agree with this, as usual for me, I yelled back at the screen, no, she's pregnant, you're having a baby. But he also told Emma they suspected a pregnancy and then went in for an ultrasound, that belly wasn't a suspected pregnancy. Good luck to them with their 6!
  4. Dairy Queen has a chicken and waffles thing going now. I want to smack the woman upside the head every time I hear her say, "my man!" And the daughter is pretty annoying too. I don't mind the husband's "my lady." But the wife's response just raises my hackles. I think it's the way she says it.
  5. I feed my dogs Purina Dog Chow. Over the past almost 50 years of adulting with my own dogs, and I'm now on my 10th & 11th dog, all my dogs have eaten Purina Dog Chow. Sometimes I go with the Lamb and Rice, but most of the time I stick with the Chicken. My Pit doesn't care much for the lamb and rice. Most of those 9 previous dogs have lived well into their teen years, I lost one because of the ending of a relationship, another I had to rehome because of landlord, one died when she got out of the gate my ex-husband had left open and she was hit by a car, all the others were 12-16 years old when I lost them. Purina seems to work well, my dogs are happy and healthy, they are not overweight, they all seem satisfied with the amount of food they get, except for the Pit, and his name is Quark because he's greedy. But he is a healthy weight for his size so he's not getting more than I feed him now. I've been ordering my food from Walmart for about a year, first on the 2 day delivery, it's easy to find $35 to order from Walmart when one of the items is a 50 lb bag of dog food. I've tried Chewy, I couldn't bring myself to spend $50 on dog food and toys, so I paid the shipping. I liked Chewy except they don't have 50 lb bags of Purina, they have 40 lb bags, which is fine most months. I like them because the soft stuffed animals from Kong that Quark likes so much are 1/3 of the price I've paid on Amazon, but I am not buying him $30 of stuffed toys at one time. And there are times I buy 20lb bags because we have plenty of food from the previous month. I keep their food in 2 plastic bins with latches, I try to not buy more food than I need.
  6. taking pet food talk to small talk.
  7. If I had money to buy a new car, Subaru would definitely be on my list, besides the fact that they are one of two car makers that have a vehicle in aqua or turquoise. And yes, I would buy a car based on color, after checking out all the other stuff. But there's several new ads with the Golden Retriever family. I just love them. One has the family going to the hot dog stand, as they get ready to chow down, several Dachshunds come up, the looks are so precious, especially between the puppy golden and the puppy Dachshund. Another one, they're driving on the highway, getting ready to pass a truck, the puppy in the car seat starts to whimper, catches the attention of the boxer/mix dog driving the truck, he pumps his paw and the boxer/mix dog pulls his air horn. So darn cute.
  8. Tonight was the first time I've really gotten to see James. Week 1, I got distracted by my niece and week 2, I forgot the show was on and missed the first 3 or 4 dancers. But I thought he did very well, I thought he was leading and this early in the season, that's nice to see. I liked Kel, I did see that he got off in one glaring spot in his dance. I'm not feeling the Karamo love, maybe it's because I'm just not as familiar with him. I think Kate may be the surprise dancer of this season. Sean does seem to be enjoying himself, but he's still not a good dancer, I'll be glad when he's gone. Lamar seemed to enjoy himself more tonight.
  9. re the lady pushing a sick kid in a stroller all the way to the doctor because she doesn't have car insurance or it's cousin, the guy that hates to hitch rides, but has no choice because he doesn't have car insurance and all of the rest of their relatives, in my area, the poor side of town, that doesn't happen. It's more like "insurance, we don't need no stinkin' insurance." and they drive where they need to go anyway and hope they don't get pulled over.
  10. Oh, Funky Rat, I understand, I'm a friend of Lois, but I hate what alcohol has done to too many people. But with my family, it's more about drugs. But when I was married, I could tell from the way the car pulled into the driveway that my husband had been drinking. My recovery is a daily struggle for me, one that lately I've been losing,
  11. Yeah no, I so agree with so much of what you've said, it's shocking when all of sudden, you're too old to function and are discriminated against because of it. I, too, was forced into early retirement at 62, then in rapid succession, two other older employees of the same place were let go, of course, it was age discrimination, but it was all tied up in pretty bows by the employer as being our own fault, there is nothing that can be proven. I am sad that Mary was eliminated, I was so hoping that spicer would go, but pretty sure he wouldn't, I'd really like to see Lamar go, because I think he's miserable and this is too much for him. I enjoyed Mary's dancing, it wasn't the best, it's just harder as you get older and incredibly frustrating to not be able to do things you think you should. And as I start pushing 70, it's shocking that it's assumed that I'm senile as well as incapable of doing things I used to. It seemed to happen overnight.
  12. I guess I didn't watch that season either, or I've forgotten. I didn't know those characters were introduced in The Practice.
  13. there's an ad for some medication, for asthma symptoms, I think, it has a lot of purple balloons or not, I may be mixing up medication ads. But this one is for Fasenra. A woman and her son are walking on the beach, then they are playing volleyball with a man and his daughter, then all 4 of them are around a campfire and the woman has her arm around one child wrapped in a blanket, ruffles the other child's hair. I think this is a family of 4, man, woman, girl, boy. What confuses me is in the volleyball game, after the last point is scored and they all meet at the net, she shakes the man's hand. If they are strangers who just met over a volleyball game, I can see that, but if this is her husband, why is she shaking his hand? I was married, but I don't recall ever shaking my husband's hand, never had the least desire to shake his hand, it was usually a hug and a kiss. My parents were married over 50 years and I never saw them shake hands, ever. I saw lots of hugs and kisses, but never a handshake. I know a lot of married people and I never have seen any of them shake their spouse's hand. I know, I've thought about that entirely too much.
  14. I have to go on a rant about the "people that age are fragile". I'm sure most people who are in their 20s and 30s think 60+ is absolutely ancient (and I probably did too), but now that I'm in that age demographic, it doesn't seem so at all. I and my friends are all still very active, physically strong and energetic. I have no idea how easily our bones would break, but, still, to just feel dismissed hurts. May I remind everyone that I think Tom Bergeron is in the over 60 age bracket, yet I don't think anyone thinks of him as "old". You made me laugh. I go on that rant at least once every season! Now that I am pushing 70, and will be pushing it real hard in a few months, it's annoying to be dismissed. I usually remind people, that if they are very lucky, they too will be old someday. And thank you Boyznkatz for the apology. Yes, the bones are more brittle with age, I broke my wrist in pretty much the same way about 6 years ago. It continues to pain me. I've said this before also, this show does not treat the older contestants kindly. There are videos of an older couple on YouTube, performing West Coast Swing. They are fantastic. Old people can dance, but I suspect this couple has been doing it since it was invented! Heck, they may have invented it, I don't know. They don't do lifts and she doesn't wear killer heels, but they get the crowd moving and cheering. I didn't mean to quote all of that. I guess my old fingers got carried away with holding down the mouse button.
  15. I watched last night. It's going to take me a while to get used to and to sort out the new crew. I agree with upthread poster, Mustafa is cute as a button, I believe you said "hot", but I'm old enough to be his grandmother, so I'll stick with "cute as a button." I guess Grant got the name "Ghost Hunters" and Jason got "TAPS"? Grant was my favorite on the original show, I'll try to remember to watch again next week. Yesterday, I caught the introduction show, I rather enjoyed that and a couple of others including the Madison Seminary. I am looking forward to Jason's new show if I can remember to watch when it comes on.
  16. Forty years - pffft! My mom got her cookware in the 1940's/early 50's, I wasn't born until 1950, so I had no need for cookware of any sort for myself until I was in my 20's, in the 1970s.
  17. I have an unpopular opinion, I hate the mayhem guy. He just annoys the daylights out of me. I also don't like the Myberic (I probably spelled it wrong, the overactive bladder stuff), I don't think the little red bladder is cute. If I don't keep up with my Kegel exercises, I have to go to the bathroom way too often and there is no telling my bladder "NO! We're going to the doctor when we get back home." My bladder will show me and then I'll need bladder leak underwear.
  18. I have Corning Ware that I've had for 45 years, I love it, I occasionally have had to work hard at cleaning it because some idiot thinks you can use glass cooking ware the same ways as metal, you can't, you have to use lower temps. But it isn't for everyone. I have a set of Faberware I got a couple of years ago when my Corning Ware was packed away. Some of the pans are fine, but the skillets are a mess, the big one because it isn't big enough, I'm going to invest in a bigger skillet. I'm also getting some of the Mr. Clean Clean Freak cleanser next week and see if it works to clean this stuff. And to keep it on topic, I have purchased one of the Kathy Mitchell pans, Copper something, it's the sandwich maker, I liked it fine until I left it on the stove after I had taken an Ambien and didn't wake up until 3 hours later when my sister knocked on my door and asked if I was going to use it? Duh, if the pan has turned from red to black and the burner is still on and whatever was inside is now a charcoal briquette, turn the burner off and then ask me. Obviously, I've forgotten it. But, unless you have OCD, like me, you don't have to have matching cookware, like people above have mentioned. Buy a piece or two as you can, need it, find it on sale, it's all good. For the most part, heavy is better in cookware, it doesn't burn as easily. If you are wanting to put things in the oven, you won't want plastic handles, but if you are going to exclusively use the cookware on top of the stove, plastic handles allow you to pick up a pan without a hot pad or glove.
  19. Who?? Lol Exactly how I feel about most of the casts on this show. And yes, it was Kyle Massey that I liked a great deal, thank you Marykat. Even though I have no idea about who they are and what they've done, I think that leaves me a little more open about their actual dancing. I can like or dislike because of what I see them do on this show. It's like Hannah, I hate the whole idea of Bachelor/Bachelorette shows, dating shows in general, online dating, telephone dating commercials, etc., I'm old fashioned but I do realize that not all who use online dating are desperate, that sometimes they just don't have a way to meet people, but of all the celebrities (and I use that term lightly) from that show, I don't hate her automatically. She was enthusiastic, pleasant, has some skills, I hope she grows as a dancer. And then I contrast that to people who obviously don't want to be there and can't be bothered to learn how to dance, have no rhythm, can't let themselves relax and do the dances - and there are entirely too many of those throughout the years. And I don't think Hannah was the best dancer, but she wasn't totally awful either. There are several in this cast I am willing to give them a chance to grow. I hope they get it and aren't overshadowed by the ones that suck but because of fan base or rabid political bases will outlast their ability, and we all know which ones those are.
  20. I can't remember who was wearing the fringy pants, was it Karamo's partner? Jenna? I forgot to watch him, I was so mesmerized by the fringy pants. They always fascinate me. And breaking a wrist at 65 is no joke, I broke mine at 63, it's never going to be right again, it's been 6 years and I still can't really use it for much weight, like a 8 lb baby or a 20 lb toddler.
  21. Nichelodeon/Disney, I didn't grow up watching either, so what do I know of the difference? In my day, we only had 3 channels and you had to send your younger sister or brother across the room to change the channel, or to hold onto the rabbit ears to get the channel clearly. My idea of Disney kids are Spin and Marty, Joe and Frank Hardy, Annette, Cheryl, Tommy, Bobby, Darlene, Karen and Cubby.
  22. Some of my thoughts, not that they're worth a hill of beans. I didn't hate Hannah, probably liked her more than any other contestant ever from the Bachelor/Bachlorette franchise. I hate the whole idea of that show, so I'm never going to root for any of it's participants in this show. I thought Sailor did a lovely job and with only 3 days practice time as opposed to 2 weeks, it was great, she has a lot of natural ability. I hope she continues to improve. And I hope this show will be a boost in her career. The basketball player did not keep my interest, but I didn't think he was worse than spicer. Although, I think it's long past time to bring out the 3 paddles, several of the top finishing celebs last year could have used a 3 several times. And speaking of when Tom said he was going to sit down with the winner of last season, I reached for the remote and turned off the sound. Don't want to see him, don't want to hear him. Don't think anyone can say spicer wasn't lacking for enthusiasm, but enthusiasm doesn't make up for ability and he was about as bad as I expected him to be. I liked Ally, but I do think there's room for improvement. She also did not lack enthusiasm. I liked Mary, but I loved Gladys Knight and expect Mary Wilson will go in much the same way Gladys did. This show is not nice to older women. I didn't grow up watching Disney channel, so I have little background with any Disney kids. I have liked some of them, especially that one young man early on, I think he came in 3rd. I just can't remember his name and am too lazy to look him up. I think I only saw Queer Eye once, maybe twice, so I know nothing of the young man from there, he was also enthusiastic, I'll let him have a couple of more weeks before passing judgement. I've never watched anything with James either, so I have no opinion, but he is a nice dancer and his children are adorable. I look forward to seeing more.
  23. I was imagining the soap suds... lower signed, dirty old lady That took entirely too much work to see the picture for what was there. signed, another dirty old lady
  24. The General Ad with the football kicker who can only kick balls into the goal posts, not through them. Isn't that harder to do, there's only 2 of the posts, they're only a few inches wide and the space in between is quite large. Couldn't a kicker who can consistently hit the goal post be worked with to move his aim slightly?
  25. I started wondering today if the character Alan Shore is based, even loosely, on Stuart Woods character in many of his books, Stone Barrington. Mr. Barrington is "of counsel" to a big NYC law firm and Alan Shore is not a partner at Crane, Poole and Schmidt, he's talked about being at other law firms. Mr. Barrington does a lot of the dirty work of his NYC firm, he doesn't do litigation as far as I can remember, it's been a while since I read any of the books. Alan Shore does a lot of the dirty work of Crane, Poole and Schmidt, he's the voice of the firm with the Supreme Court (that may be the dirty work, it may be an honor, it all depends), he takes the lead in a lot of the litigation cases that no one else will touch. They both get things done and not always in the cleanest, nicest ways possible. Alan Shore does have a charitable streak that I don't remember Stone Barrington having. Both have become wealthy, Barrington a lot more so than Alan Shore. I refuse to address any person, real or fiction as "Stone". There are probably a lot of lawyers that fit both the characters backgrounds and methods. I was just thinking about these two today. And Stuart Woods and David E. Kelley have probably drawn from many people they have known to create those characters, but Stuart Woods has been around a little longer than David E. Kelley.
