  1. Is that what that song is? I hate that ad! And I'll add my hate to the Lending Tree or whatever it is, Linda nonsense. Drives me straight for the remote. And if my Pluto all night tv of Cold Case Files or 48 Hours start showing those, there will be no sleep for me.
  2. How on earth do you remember/know that? Yes, near the end of the month.
  3. I know, I haven't been around here in forever. I'm fine, just been doing other things. But it used to be when I skip the site for a while and click on a thread, I was taken to where I had left off the last time. Now, when I click on a thread, it's taking me back to 2019. Sorry, but I am not rereading 100 pages of text, so I'm just skipping through to the newest page and so I'll probably miss a lot of discussions. I did enjoy the discussions about children misbehaving in stores. I worked in a fabric store for a couple of years and kids are bored stiff in fabric stores. One day, I spotted a young man doing log rolling on top of drapery and upholstery tubes. Those fabrics come on about 4'-5' tubes and can be some of the most expensive in the store. One of my co-workers and I spotted him at about the same time and headed in that direction, but my co-worker was calling, "little boy, little boy...in her Long Island voice, we live in Oklahoma and you just don't hear that accent here. About the time we got there, his mom heard and saw and came running, she made him get down, but I have doubts if there hadn't been a commotion that she would have paid a bit of attention until the little darling fell off the tubes.
  4. I've been away from these type shows for a long while and from these threads for that same time. So, let me get this straight. Ghost Hunters started with Grant, Jason, Steve, Dave, Amy and Adam many years ago. Then there was a problem and Grant left the show, it carried on for a few years, then went away. Then it came back with Grant and no one else. Jason, Steve and Dave were on Ghost Nation. Amy & Adam got their own show. Then that went away and Ghost Hunters name was sold as part of same time and changes that happened with Pit Bulls and Parolees and no one knew if they would be back and it was a time of great upheaval. Now a show with the title Ghost Hunters is back and it has many of the original cast members. But not Grant. And Amy and Adam are over somewhere occasionally showing up on Josh Gates shows. Is this about right?
  5. Thanks, Welshman, I enjoyed the show, a lot more than I ever thought I would and wouldn't mind seeing the rest. I don't go to fairs, I have my reasons, but I've heard of various fair foods and wondered about them, so it was informative.
  6. Re reactions to movies in a theater. When my oldest niece was about 3, (she's a grandmother of 2 now), her mother and I took her to see 101 Dalmatians. She was a little young and I didn't think she was paying much attention. Until the chase scene, when she stood on her seat and started yelling, "C'mon, hurry, you can do it, hurry!" I laughed. The theater was full of young children, it wasn't too horribly misbehaving of her. Editing so I don't double post. Re fried butter, recently A&E had a special about Texas State Fair foods and the vendors. It was pretty interesting, but I don't know if I missed the ending episode or they just stopped it. One of the vendors sold fried butter. I had heard of it, and thought it sounded weird and impossible. I've never had it, but after seeing it on one of those episodes, I wouldn't mind trying it. They take a small ball of bread dough, then form that ball around a pat of butter then deep fry it. So it's sort of like a small fried dinner roll with the butter melted inside. Probably as it cooks, the butter gets all through the dough.
  7. Sprinkles are for winners. Ad that is annoying me, is for Quicken bookkeeping system. The smug man intones how his investments are doing well, his mortgage will be paid off in 12 years, he can retire at 62. Can't stand him. Wait until you are let go from your job before all of those things come to pass, or someone gets very sick, or the housing market takes a turn or there's a recession. "Man proposes, God disposes; neither is the way of man in his own hands." "The best laid schemes of mice an men."
  8. you don't live in tornado alley, do you? Grew up in Missouri, live in Oklahoma. We go outside to look at the sky when there's a tornado warning. Editing to add, don't do this when it sounds like a freight train is approaching! But, when I see the ad, I think Kansas, farm, Dorothy, tornado.
  9. What made me laugh in that one was how Dr. Rick got testy when they wouldn't quit talking about parking. "No more talking about parking." My dad would always leave the drive in before the end of the movie when I was a kid. I saw a lot of the endings of movies with no sound, looking out the back window as we drove away. It did influence me, when I go to a movie, I do not leave until the last credit is finished.
  10. chenoa333, sadly Daryl is still around occasionally. He's a little better without his son to bully. I liked Brandon better than his dad and hope he is doing well on his own with his own family. But the new "rivalry" seems to be between Rene and Daryl and Rene and a newish guy, Dusty. I don't like Rene much either, he's an a$$. Was watching a new episode recently and Lisa bought a unit and Brandy didn't, so Lisa invited Brandy to go through her locker together. It seemed like they were having fun, joking around. I'd like to see more of that than the put downs and one upping that the guys do with each other. Lisa seems to get along well with all the other regulars. She and Kenny have gone through units together and talk nicely to each other. She teases Ivy and it doesn't come off mean spirited. I think that's the whole thing I like, not mean spirited. I like the softer, kinder Storage Wars. And, of course, Barry.
  11. In later books, I think Marion changed the character to a more glamorous, while she kept the rather stocky figure, she had great legs and great hair and became less plain and had her own kind of beauty and she really liked to spend money on clothes. I've read most of the books, I haven't read the last one or two.
  12. Agatha is described as being quite fashion conscious and well dressed, most of the time. She spends a lot of money on clothing and likes good labels and designers.
  13. But Marion approved of the actress, Ashley Jensen who plays Agatha even though the actress is quite blonde, but in every book she describes her shiny brown hair, one of her best features. She talked about it in one of her FB posts, she said she had reservations because the actress was blonde but after she, Marion, visited the set during the filming for the first episode, she thought the actress was good as Agatha.
  14. I love Hamish! I've read most of MC Beaton's works, I'm missing a few of both Agatha and Hamish. I followed Marion on FB until her death and she hand selected another author and worked with him to continue both series. I've read a couple of the post Marion Agatha books, they follow her standard closely. Haven't read any of the new Hamish books yet. Snakes and bastards, I'd best get on with it. But if I read, it's hard to watch tv.
  15. I've considered getting Britbox or Acorn, I think Acorn is the one with the Agatha Raisin stories, but for right now, I have Disney Plus, when I finish watching what I want on there, I will probably turn it off and turn something else on. Watched the Spielberg, West Side Story, last week and absolutely loved it. I don't usually care for remakes, but this was outstanding! The dialog has been rewritten and it makes so much better sense for today's movie goers, the original was a little clunky in the dialog at times. I loved how some of the songs were moved around in the order and they made good sense for the plot. I particularly enjoyed America and I Feel Pretty. I loved Waiting for God, haven't seen that one in a zillion years, yes, Diana was great, I loved her sarcasm. I appreciate good sarcasm. I will think about adding Britbox for a while and then maybe Acorn. Thanks for the recommendation.
  16. Thank you Hyacinth, I haven't watched in several years. The show and my favorite, As Time Goes By, used to run on the local PBS every Sunday night, but I couldn't stay up late enough to watch them often. But then, I retired and PBS changed their schedule and dropped those 2 shows.
  17. Since we don't have a thread for commercials that briefly amuse, I guess this is the place. I have been amused the few times I've seen the ad for some car. The car is surrounded by a children's orchestra, woman is inside the car, the orchestra is playing Thus Spake Zarathustra (2001 Space Odyssey), orchestra is not good, sour notes, screechy instruments, off key and time, woman puts up the windows, closes the sun/moon roof, sound is greatly muffled and tolerable. Editing to ask about changing the title of this thread to something like, "Favorite Commercials or at least Likable or Amusing Commercials?"
  18. Saw a mention up thread about before times. I do that too, the other day, I was trying to remember how long ago something happened, I thought for a minute and said, oh it happened before so it's been almost 3 years, I could remember the month, just not the year. But, we had before times, we're still during, will we ever again have after? Re: Medicare Advantage Plans, I love mine, it's a PPO. I have Medicare and Medicaid and the Advantage Plan covers those and adds more. Last year I was hospitalized twice, non covid issues, I didn't pay a penny. My ambulance rides were covered by a payment we make monthly with our water/trash/sewer bill, less than $5/month and since my sister went to the hospital at least twice last year and I went twice, that's quite a savings. This year I added the extra coverage to my insurance, I get $150/month for healthy foods and over the counter meds, that's quite a help financially, I get 18 round trips/year to medical appts. I've used it once, it was great. I tried to use it again this week, but the transportation service screwed up the date in my reservation, however, I called my insurance contact and she stayed with me all the way to straighten out the mess and to reschedule my dentist appt and the ride to that appt. She explained to the receptionist at the dentist office and to the transportation people what the problems were, I was pretty upset because I really needed to go to the dentist, waiting a week does not make me happy. So now I know that next time I have to arrange a ride to verify the date and time with the transportation people 3 times before ending the call. I'm still a little irritated. So, one of the reasons when you call the 800 number to find out about the advantage plans, that they want your zip code is because coverage varies by state and plans can vary within a state by city/county. You don't want to talk New York coverage if you live in New Mexico. Re: phone number mix-ups, I'm reminded of Hyacinth, No! This is not the Chinese take-away, this is a private residence with a white trim line phone (or something like that, it's been a couple of years)
  19. Back to the Virgin Cruse Line using Like A Virgin. For the longest time, I heard the singing as "Like a virgin, we are marching, six to nine." It made no sense to me, I don't listen to Madonna and had never heard her sing the song. I looked up the lyrics, which are Like a virgin, when your heart beats, next to mine." Now, sometimes, I can hear the correct lyric, but I rather like my version. I wondered where the virgins were marching to and why. And I never got a memo back when that status applied to me.
  20. I just discovered this show a couple of months ago. I live in Tulsa, so I find the Tulsa stories the most interesting. I don't hold the TPD in very high regard. I'm about the most law abiding, goody two shoes person you'd ever want to meet, but I've unfortunately had several encounters with the TPD because of my screwed up family. Some have been very helpful, others terrible. I don't like being accused of drug using or abusing any one just because I have rotten family members, but they tend to treat everyone in the family like criminals. I quit reading the Tulsa World about 15 years ago and quit watching the local news about 5 years ago for reasons we're not allowed to talk about on this site. When I hear something has happened, and I want to know more, I'll look it up and read a few sources. This show almost makes me consider watching the local news but nah, it's not worth the aggravation.
  21. I like the Calm commercials too, I like the 30 second one better because I try to do some deep breathing during them. I can get more deep breaths in 30 seconds than in 15. Thank you for the long Alexa commercial. I thought the 2 I've seen were funny, the one with the play opening and reminder to fake death cracks me up. Geico is rerunning the one with the football player, Mickey something who celebrates everything. It makes me laugh when he's doing his dance in front of the deli counter, "gonna get me some cold cuts today!" I don't now and haven't in over 30 years since my divorce, pay attention to football and football players.
  22. My television has pretty good color, it's usually fairly true, but almost all the colors of the teams jackets, coats, etc looked washed out and the flags of all the countries too. I wonder if it had to do with the color lights of the arena and the led screen they were walking on. Reds and whites were bright, but blues were particularly washed out. I really noticed it with Great Britain's flag.
  23. All of the CSIs are on Pluto, I finally figured out the rotation. 16 hours of NY starting at 2AM CST, 8 hours CSI, starting at 6 PM CST, 16 hours of Miami, starting at 2 AM CST, 8 hours CSI, starting at 6 PM CST. Rinse and repeat. For NY, it's all of the series, for Miami, I have no idea, didn't watch it originally, don't watch it now, for Vegas, it's season one through five. It ends with Warrick's murder. Even though I prefer Grissom, I wish they would show more than those five seasons, I think he was on longer than that. I binged on NY and Vegas for a while, but I only watch now when there's nothing else I want to watch.
  24. saw the episode recently where Dave & Dan get into a physical altercation. Wow, that was unnecessary, especially on Dave's part, he wouldn't shut up and let go, just kept pushing, then he was pushing physically. Laura tries hard to keep a sweet and innocent facade, but that sure came off, girl has a mouth on her when provoked! I can't stand Rene, but he did earn a couple of brownie points from me when he gave Laura a hand up when Dave pushed her down. And, I don't think that was deliberate, I think it was a side effect of the pushing and shoving that Dave and Dan were doing and the others getting in between to stop the fight. Rene was also a little comforting to Mary as they walked away together afterwards, so another brownie point or two.
  25. I've noticed that lockers are selling for a lot less money especially without Dave Hester around. Ones that used to go for $1000-$2500 are now going for under $500. That's quite a drop. I wonder why.
