  1. Not exactly a favorite, but we have no category for commercials that amuse. I've been watching Law and Order on WE most of the day. They been running ads with scenes from the show, with the dialog changed. One is something about Covid, I don't really pay attention. But saw some new ones today for Criminal Minds that are hilarious. I can't remember most of the ad, but several times they have Shemar Mppre saying something about you'll see him posing pretty and then he says something about you'll see me like this, and they put up a scene with him shirtless and he says, aren't I pretty. I really have no idea what is said in any of the rest of the ad, but I do stop to watch him posing shirtless and yes, he does bring the pretty.
  2. what's worse than an earworm in a commercial? an earworm they don't finish! Just saw an ad, the one that uses Cindy Lauper's All Through the Night, the singer sang, "all through the" and they cut to a different commercial! AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH! Now I have to find the song and hear it to finish it. I like that one and I don't even mind the slowed down version on the commercial.
  3. I'm not sure how I feel about the Colace cutesy song about pooping and no. 2. There are two different songs, one about pooping and one about no. 2. I'm leaning toward irritated.
  4. we're doing a little remodeling, painting, sanding and staining and sealing floors, new surround and vanity and floors in bathroom, etc. Had to replace some trim molding in the one bedroom. Fairly simple molding, from a late 50s/early 60s ranch style tract house. $7/foot. The room is not large about 12x12, but that can add up fast.
  5. Obviously, I do not watch closely enough. Actually, I do very little watching. I mostly listen.
  6. I bought my cell phone in 2008 when my family insisted because I was driving 250 miles to my high school reunion. I started with one that the keypad kind of pulled out from the bottom of the phone, moved to one that had a keypad and screen on one piece with a keyboard that pulled out of the side. After my nephew had it and got in a fight with the neighbor kids and dropped it and they brought it home, smashed with a hammer and left it on my porch, I went to a $15 flip phone. I've replaced this one about 3 times, one time the dog chewed it up, one time my nephew had a fight with a friend and the friend threw it against the wall. The one I'm currently using has a big dog bite out of the keypad area from my pit bull. It's a little hard to adjust the volume of the ringer, but otherwise it's fine. I have cataracts, can't see and I won't know for another month or so if I will be able to get surgery, depends on where my breast cancer stands, if I'll even be able to do it. I was just diagnosed about a month ago, I've taken this month to make some unpopular decisions, but now I'm ready to find out what kind it is, how big it is, what stage it is before I tell the doctors I am not going to undergo treatment. I'm 70, I'm opting for quality of life over quantity. And my nephew has been banned from using my phone for several years now. He's also banned from being around me. I have 3 1/2 years left on the Protective Order, I just hope I have 3 1/2 years.
  7. Re the Progressive ad where the customer has a claim and the gang all drop what they're doing and rush to the accident site. Flo is dressed like Flo, Jamie is in cap and gown like he was giving a speech at a graduation, Mara was either at a prom or was a bridesmaid and I don't know the other guy's name, but he was fly fishing. I just caught Mara's little comment at the end, she mutters under her breath, not so softly, "you smell like fish." The fly fisher guy says, "sorry." She replies, "not you, Jamie." or "I was talking to/about Jamie." or close to one of those. Cracks me up. And I will join the flip phone discussion on Small Talk.
  8. Re treadmill accidents from Annoying, Irritating, Enraging, I was on my treadmill and my brother came over to my house to get something. I told him it was in the bathroom, underneath the sink. He couldn't find it, I told him 3 times. Finally, I got off the treadmill and went and got it for him, in the bathroom, under the sink, right where I told him. I left the treadmill running, big mistake. I tried to get back on it, went flying backwards, landed face down on the end of the thing. Had to have my brother take me to the ER for X-rays for a concussion. I was fine, but terrible headache and a black eye and missed a day of work.
  9. There were an estimated 22,500 treadmill-related injuries treated at US emergency departments among all ages, I've been one. Since it's a topic for Small Talk, if anyone is interested and I don't expect it, I'll go there if requested. Edited to add my take on the stupid Pelotan ads. I assumed (I know) that everyone taking the class with the instructors suddenly and inexplicably changed their name to Pelotan so the instructor wouldn't have to exercise their brains too much.
  10. you might look into Philo, a streaming service, $20/month, I've had it for several years now, since Trading Spaces came back on. It has Animal Planet, Discovery, DIY, Discovery Science. The only channels I'd like to have but don't are TBS so I can watch A Christmas Story and TCM so I can get some Hitchcock now and then and I love old movies.
  11. I won't be back either. This was must see for me since season 1. No longer, I can't tolerate Tyra.
  12. I finished the series this weekend. It took me over a year because I started watching on Prime and then they dropped it and it was several months before Roku started showing it. I can't really compare the beginning and the end because my memory isn't that long any more. I skipped a lot of episodes, mostly what I considered the stupid ones, the ones with Luthor Gillis or others where either Thomas or the gang were imagining themselves as a legendary dectective and other nonsense. I liked the serious episodes better. I skipped a couple of the middle seasons. I love Thomas Magnum, but I could only take 2-5 episodes at a sitting. I have so many thoughts about the finale. I'll start with the silly ones, how did they get matching outfits that fit so well so quickly? I sew, it doesn't happen that way, I know, they were rented, but still. Why was a assistant D.A. a bridesmaid for a former hooker? I know, they needed the actress who was the only female recurring member of the cast to be in the finale. How did they fit in, at the last minute, an unexpected flower girl? Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I know that re-enlisting was a responsible, adult thing to do and he had done it before Lily was brought to him, but who's going to raise her? He has no home, few belongings, he could probably get base housing, but he has no furniture. Who's going to be with the child every day? Is he going to send her to his mother in Virginia? Hire a full time nanny? She doesn't speak English, she's a bright child, and she's young, she'll learn quickly. But she's had so many upheavals in her life, she's going to need a steady adult in her life and counseling for years! He's going to be deployed and may be on a ship for a year at a time, he can't be there for her. And what is Jonathan Higgins or Robin Masters going to do about security? Is he Robin, I think it would have been a good solution, but I watched most of the series in a short time and there were too many inconsistencies. I don't think the idea at the beginning was to make Higgins Robin. And Robin has to be one heck of a writer to make enough money to have homes all over the world and never spend much time in any. But if Higgins is Robin, all those other homes could be imaginary. What will Rick and TC do now that Magnum isn't occupying so much of their time. I know, Rick's going to settle down with his new wife and TC is going to settle down with his old one. But it was a sweet ride for Magnum to have such qualified, unpaid staff for his detective agency. Even though they bitched and complained, they usually dropped everything to help him at a moment's notice. They are going to miss the excitement and adrenaline rush. Thomas is going to have some sticker shock when he has to buy his own vehicle and it won't be a Ferrari, I know he bought an old beater in an episode, but he went back to the Ferrari. And a Ferrari is not a practical auto for a young child. He also won't have all of Robin Masters' fun toys at his disposal any more. He may have to become responsible and take care of his stuff. It was a nice ending to the series, but not very realistic. I know, I'm not just living in the moment. It would have been nice if the reboot had been about Lily and her being a Private Investigator instead of just trying to move Thomas into modern times and retelling his story. I admit, I haven't watched the new version and I probably won't. But, those are my thoughts on the series.
  13. I see that some readers of this thread like the Provenza and Flynn humorous episodes, those are my least favorite. Just goes to show that old phrase, "different strokes for different folks." The episode with the adopted Russian psychopath always reminds me of my time working at the psych hospital for children and adolescents. They had a sex offender unit and it was always full. Lots of horrible and very sad stories there, the boys and in all the time I was there, only one girl was on the unit and it was a brief stay, she aged out. All the patients on that unit were there for months and even years, it's not an easy treatment fix. I will not be breaking confidentiality, as I can't remember most of the details, but we had one boy who was adopted from South America, he committed horrible acts on his parents and came to us after he started on the younger siblings. He was adopted late, I don't remember, but he was 3 or 4 and the damage was already done. His adoptive family was well to do, but money was not enough and we could not fix him. He went to a very long term facility in Montana, or Idaho or another western state, I believe it was some sort of youth ranch for very troubled children. Very sad because once he turned 18, they would have to let him go and he will be loose on society until he commits a horrendous crime and is sent to prison to hone his skills. I read a lot of charts of very sad cases and a lot of bad ones that will be turned loose on society. And this was one hospital in one city. I really don't like watching that episode.
  14. somewhere in one of these threads, probably this one, someone mentioned how annoying the Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis Cheetos commercial was. I hadn't seen, but something I was watching recently had the ad on several times. Holy Cow! You'd think that someone who makes the kind of money he does, he could afford a singing coach. He's really and truly annoying.
  15. I know a lot of miniature makers and seamstresses/seamsters that make doll clothing that have Cricuts and they love them. Some sell, some do for their own enjoyment. I wish there had been something like that years ago, I would have used it. But on that same general line, there's a company Fractures, I think where you send in your pictures and they print them on glass, I don't quite see the point, I guess that decor just passes me by. There is a commercial for it, it does not make me angry or irritated or enraged, nor does it make me scratch my head, and it's not a favorite, it's just there.
  16. My dad used that phrase, but boulders are not breasts, they are rocks, because the bra as an over the shoulder boulder holder as he used it, a bra is a fancy kind of sling shot. He was a country boy during the depression. I haven't seen the Third Love ad, I guess they're not marketed to old people on the old people channel.
  17. I didn't know that, now I do. Thank you.
  18. I'm watching on Start tv, and even though I've been through the entire show a couple of times, I can't make myself quit. I guess I will when I'm ready. But yesterday's show had a moment I had missed, the episode was where Dr. Morales' father is visiting and they are pretending Dr. Morales has a bigger role in solving the murders than he actually has. A lot of sweet moments at the end. But this is also a Camryn Manheim episode, and there's a scene where she pops in to ask about them making an arrest. Dr. Morales is sitting with his father standing next to him, the father leans down and asked who that witch is (in Spanish), Dr. Morales says she's a bureaucrat. Father stands back up and he and Camryn Manheim exchange a look that is just fraught with possibilities! He knows Winnie Davis for what she is and she knows exactly what he asked his son and what he thinks of her!
  19. I was going to mention that one after I caught up reading 4 pages! And I hate the swatting the cereal box. But, different strokes for different folks.
  20. Geico commercial with the basketball player (I don't follow basketball, I don't care who he is) blocking shots is really annoying. But when he knocks the box of cereal out of the kid's hand and makes a mess all over the grocery store aisle ticks me off the most.
  21. by the time these people's children or grandchildren start buying homes and turning into them, there will change! And Progressive will have a new set of commercials about turning into your parents, lol.
  22. re the Progressive? ad about buying a house makes one turn into their parents. In general I like those, but this one part of the newest one has me scratching my head and I guess it means I've turned into my parents because I'm old, But why aren't they television programs? I call them programs and shows, programs if I'm feeling snooty or intelligent, shows when I don't.
  23. I'm confused by the Planters' ads. Mr. Peanut says he died and then he came back. I googled and found that last year Planters had planned a campaign that Mr. Peanut had died and there was going to be a funeral ad during the Superbowl or there was going to be a funeral in an ad sometime before the Superbowl, and he was going to come back during the Superbowl, it's confusing exactly what they were talking about. But then Kobe Bryant died about the time they were going to kill him off so they scraped the plan. Apparently there was some kind of Twitter campaign planned, but I don't Twitter so I don't get it. Did Planters not advertise last year? I really don't remember, I don't remember seeing ads but I don't remember not seeing ads, I mostly watch old people channels and they don't run too many of the A list or even the B list of commercials, so I may have missed any ads. There's been some cute Mr. Peanut ads, there's been some irritating and even some that made us all go "huh?" Can anyone make any sense of this?
  24. I noticed Monday it was Court TV here. I don't watch it on the Court TV channel I already had. Thanks.
