Heartaches, Bromances, True Love and Team Arrow: the Relationships Thread
insomniadreams88 replied to quarks's topic in Arrow
This is how I felt. I could understand the 213 lunge, with both of them upset. What I didn't understand was 214 and suddenly they're in a relationship? I think it would have been better for Sara's character (and probably Oliver's too) if it had just been a one-time hookup or a couple other hookups during 2B as well. They clearly really wanted the Lance family drama dinner, so Oliver could have even tagged along as Sara's friend (though why he went is something I will never understand) and they probably could have gotten the same result of Laurel upset, the hallway convo, etc. I just remember spending most of season 2 before the lunge going, "kiss already!" to Oliver and Felicity, especially at the end of 210. I think they probably could have still stretched it out and gotten the shock over the finale ILY without Oliver and Sara in a relationship. -

I feel like there was so much inconsistent with Oliver and Laurel's relationship on the show, including And once they knew they weren't going to have them get back together/be endgame, everyone just stopped caring about anything making sense in their history and moved on. (And then we got the 419 flashbacks, which I wish I could forget exist.) Sadly, Laurel (and KC) did not. I still wish Laurel had said that she thought Oliver was the love of her life, but seeing him with Felicity, she realized that Tommy was/she hadn't met the love of her life yet/something that didn't have me wanting her off the team and far, far away from Oliver if she had ended up being fine like she thought she was going to be. It also would've been better than her saying he's the love of her life but then talking about hoping he and Felicity got back together. -

I just remember not knowing if he was dead or just knocked out. I feel like that wasn't done very well. -

Yeah, I have no idea what the point of that entire deathbed scene was. They should have made it her actual deathbed instead of "oh, she's going to be fine." I still don't get the point of that considering the entire season was leading up to the flashforward of the grave. Did they think people would think she'd be fine and someone else would suddenly just drop dead? Weren't there only a couple minutes left in the episode? At least there could be some sort of understanding if Laurel knew she was going to die. She wanted to tell Oliver how she felt because she knew she would never have the chance again. Instead, it just ends up coming across as, "I think I'm going to live, so I'm just going to make things super awkward by telling you how I feel. And throw in something about Felicity at the same time because ... I don't know." I think what also really hurt Laurel is KC going around in interviews calling Oliver her character's soulmate ... while he was engaged to Felicity. So I was watching the episodes with that in mind, and every time Laurel got close to Oliver after the breakup, I couldn't help but think she was making her move. And yes, that inappropriate face touching really didn't help. -

I haven't watched any of the O/L scenes from S1 in a few years, but what I do remember is always feeling bad for Tommy. And 419 just reminded me of that. I think that really hurt the O/L relationship. So maybe if not for that, I'd be okay with O/L together on another Earth (as long as I don't have to see it). Instead, I care more about Tommy being happy on another Earth and hopefully far away from that mess. (And I was all for Laurel/Tommy starting with the pilot until the first season progressed and I realized he deserved so much better.) -

You know, I wonder what these lists and articles would look like if Laurel hadn't been named Laurel but they had kept everything else the same - backstory, having her become BC, etc. - and then killed her off and then brought in Dinah this season as the new BC too. What would the comic sites say then? No one would be talking about a Black Siren redemption story probably. Suddenly Dinah would probably be their new fave. We probably wouldn't read anything about how Oliver and this character who is dead supported each other. -

My problem with Curtis is that they seem to know how to write him well - but they just don't all the time. I liked him in season 4 enough to be happy he was made a series regular for season 5. And then season 5 happened. I haven't looked at the writers for each episode to see if that's a factor or not. -

What I don't understand is Laurel is still dead. Do they think that Black Siren is going to turn into Laurel next season? And why do the people who put together these lists ignore that it's a fact that Oliver's happier with Felicity than he has been with anyone else? Do they not want Oliver happy? -
Yep. I think that they did a pretty good job of making Rene more likable from around 509ish and on (but then not so much with the arc about his daughter), but I don't think he's anywhere near ready for a relationship. I hope that they have him work on himself in season 6 (but not too much on-screen - there's only so much Rene I can take) and don't throw him into a relationship with anyone (but especially Thea). Speaking of Thea and relationships, I hope that they don't stick her in a relationship either because I'd rather them have her work on everything she felt she still had to work on at the end of season 5 on-screen in season 6. Don't send her off. If WH's episode count is down again, use the episodes they have her for to explore that. If they put her in a relationship, I don't see that necessarily happening.

Yep. Never mind that he's never expressed any interest in being head of ARGUS. I've seen all combinations that exclude Felicity possible for OTA from the comics crowd (Oliver/Tommy/Laurel, Oliver/Diggle/Laurel, Oliver/Diggle/Laurel/Thea, etc.). I just have to laugh when I see that. It's canon that OTA is Oliver/Felicity/Diggle. That's never going to change. -

Gotta love the whole "Oliver should move to Seattle (with reformed Black Siren)" bit considering last summer's "Oliver's love is Star City." But sure, after being its mayor for a year - and surviving! - Oliver's going to say, "Screw it. I want to leave Star City and move to Seattle and be with a reformed Black Siren" (even though there have been no signs that she can or wants to be redeemed). -

I think I saw those articles. Didn't the one listing characters that need to die include Diggle, Thea, Lance, Rene and Black Siren? And basically just leave Oliver, Dinah and Curtis as the only ones on Arrow who should stay alive? And didn't the other article say that Oliver should leave Star City and move to Seattle (?) with Black Canary? I just don't understand why some people can't get past wanting the show to be an exact copy of the comics -- but only the comics that fit the story they want to see. -
I hope he is but fear he's not and Vigilante is either going to be Dinah's ex (in which case they probably just had Pike or someone else as a backup in case she completely failed and they knew we weren't going to find out who he is in season 5 because they wanted to wait to make sure she was sticking around) or someone disappointing. I fear if Pike isn't Vigilante that they're going to forget he's in a coma and just leave him there until they remember he still exists.

I miss when Arrow was the show without powers/magic/etc. As much as I liked Rory, he still had magical rags. And while I don't mind Dinah as the new BC, she still has a metahuman canary cry and now we're going to have 2 people on the show with the same power? I'm not really concerned about any answers we got so far because it's still so early. Now, if we get to SDCC and the EPs/cast are giving similar answers? I might start getting worried.
-
And now I want someone to ask about the different Canaries in general - maybe which one they'd prefer to fight alongside or something not related to anyone's love life - just to see if they remember Sara was the original Canary (even though it didn't seem that way with Laurel's last words) and the answers if both KC and JH are there. True. And every time I think about how DR and Diggle deserved so much better in season 5, I can't help but remember WM answering a Q about Diggle by talking about Rene. (I will never forget how much I hated that.)

I'm just confused at this point why people are talking about Laurel as a possible LI for Oliver. E1 LL is dead. E2 LL just helped Chase keep Oliver's son captive. Why bring up Team Canary vs. Team Felicity? Why bring up a possible love triangle in season 6? I just don't understand why anyone is wasting time talking about it.

Those boots. I can't wait for the explanation as to how Black Siren survived the island being blown up after being knocked out and wearing those boots. (Was she wearing those boots in the finale? I'm just assuming she was because I didn't pay any attention to her shoes.)

Honestly, I'm more worried about Samantha (if she lives) than William. I think they know the kid can't act, so I don't expect much. (Plus the 5 month jump will probably help them put as much off-screen as they want.) But I've never liked Samantha and I didn't like what we got in 523. If she's still around and there's more of that? Nope. Not what I want to see.

It probably depends on what Barry goes through in the speed force prison. WA could get the crossover wedding and Olicity could get married in the midseason finale and there you go, WA got married first.

Agreed. The best thing they can do is leave all the worst parts of season 5 in season 5. That includes Susan (and Evelyn). -

What I could never get over was anyone trying to sell Susan as this "good reporter" when we never actually saw her being a good reporter. Or around for the big stories in Star City. -

You know if Black Siren wasn't E2 LL that no one would be talking/care about her. She'd be like Evelyn, left in a cage and forgotten about.
