So wonderful to see real ballet french again. Mine is beyond seriously degraded as you would have noted (I am old!). And yeah, me too on "is it <a thing>" -- certainly these dancesportish events seem to have so little real dance in them that I wouldn't be surprised that the judges wouldn't know a correct technique if they fell over it.

Kendall has no neck when she dances. She will never be a top winner unless she can create the illusion of a much longer neck. Technically she's a weak dancer and certainly has not improved for being in Abby's "care". Honestly I think most of these girls are seriously lacking in good technique. I continue to see very poor releves -- who knew you could turn on flat feet and have <90 degree fouettes? And someone please explain to me why every dance I see shows only right leg extension? Can't they do the same thing with their left legs?

Oh I think we all agree that Soames is horribly obsessive (I loved the story about the kitten he once had) but this portrayal of Irene as being so incredibly cold and unfeeling, and actually very lacking in social niceties within the home that it's not unreasonable to feel it's not a one-side issue.

We'll all have to wait and see :)

Last Tango In Halifax - General Discussion
DHDancer replied to David T. Cole's topic in Last Tango In Halifax
I guess it's a testament to the writing and acting that I got really angry with Celia last night. Obviously she was seriously damaged by Ken's affairs, but most especially the incident of her being in hospital dying and he was off enjoying other activities. And that's why Alan's "bad timing" of having his fling while Elaine was dealing with a new baby may have pushed Celia into this seriously bad space. I cannot forgive her, most especially for her incredibly selfish treatment of Caroline and Kate on their wedding day. All I can think it is because she's almost having a psychotic episode. Or, maybe she's just being Celia on a particular worse-than-usual day... I wonder if they (TPTB) will go down a path of age-related mental illness now? And what's also incredibly sad is to see that Caroline appears to have inherited some of her mother's least attractive behaviors. I found the Gillian and the condoms funny enough: not sure it would have been that much funnier with the full monty (so to speak). It would have explained all the expressions on the customers of course which were a bit over the top for a box of condoms. -
Yep, and the key was "taken some time" :) I'm going to be interested in seeing the uncut UK version of this program. So far all I'm finding is a pretty program lacking in substance (fortunately I've read the books very recently) Oh, and for the person up-thread who said that Cornwall is on her bucket list: Whatever you do, read the books first so you know what the weather is REALLY like there: Trust me it's rarely sunshiny like you're seeing on Poldark and Doc Martin -- Especially the North coast. It is truly an incredible place to visit but you have to go prepared with serious wet weather gear.

The contents of that trunk belonged to Ross's mother, Grace. There's a whole backstory about Joshua and Grace, with Grace being the great love of Joshua's life and when she died young, he reverted to being a womanizer etc etc. It would have helped if TPTB had taken some time to show us Demelza exploring Nampara, and especially the library, when she first arrived. I was actually bored with this episode. It was prettily filmed but I would much rather have had more exposition and dialog than staring at meadow flowers and seascapes. I also found Ross scything bare chested totally anachronistic, and actually not very attractive: his body is also anachronistic for the time.

I just watched "That Forsyte Woman" (1950) with Greer Garson, Errol Flynn, Walter Pidgeon. It was excellent and Irene's relationship and behavior with Soames was much more believable. I also liked Flynn's portrayal of Soames which was as a hard-working driven successful lawyer. Robert Young as Bossiny wasn't my idea of eye candy (it's hard to beat Ioan Gruffudd there) but all the characters were so much better grounded in reality.

Trenwith and Nampara are 4 miles apart. A good walk or a short ride, depending on your urgency ....

Like others, I didn't care for the MDP solo: I couldn't decide if I was watching a gymnast doing a floor routine minus the tumbling runs (the good bits) or at times, body building poses! I didn't know turns could be done flat-footed (and they can't as evidenced by her performance). I'm sick of seeing "dancing" that has no dance element at all: tricks, tricks, tricks. I've basically stopped watching this show, but was curious today and nothing else was on. And yep, nothing is going on....

Which older woman? Aunt Agatha or Mrs Chynoweth? Aunt Agatha is previous generation Poldark to Charles (Francis's father) and Joshua (Ross's father): ie their father's sister. She's a spinster aunt and is somewhat pivotal in the story. Mrs Chynoweth is Elizabeth's mother (the father is around somewhere) and is the one who constantly reminded Elizabeth of her obligation to marry well. The Chynoweths are an ancient lineage Cornwall family like the Poldarks, although marginally more impoverished.

I was super-impressed with the filming of Phillip's death: that was very unusual! Irene is a totally unsympathetic character. While she appears to come to life when with "Phil" (seriously is that what they called him in the book?) she's so wrapped up in her own self pity, I cannot feel even a tiny bit sorry. I so wanted June to deck her! Verbally I thought she was doing a great job, stopped only by that slap from Irene. Also, does she (Irene) have too many teeth for her mouth? It looks like she has to make a huge effort to close her mouth.

Last Tango In Halifax - General Discussion
DHDancer replied to David T. Cole's topic in Last Tango In Halifax
Gillian has obviously not learned one thing about keeping her mouth shut. Sigh. Delighted to see Rupert Graves although he's turning up in just about everything these days (Sherlock anyone). He has the best sparkly eyes!! I'm finding the soap opera story lines a bit hard to swallow: I cannot believe TPTB are trying to convince us that these families' lives are so complicated and messy! -
Some big misses in this episode for me. Characters: Am I the only one having trouble with George looking too much like Hugh Grant? Demelza is just too tall: that's why she's stooping: she appears (the actress) to be nearly as tall as Aidan... I wasn't sure I could buy into Ruby Bentall being Verity but she's actually doing a good job of convincing me. Elizabeth is just not working. Another actress who seems to have too many teeth for her mouth so that closing her mouth is hard work. Other stuff The whiny violin music is annoying me.... OK, the cloak is way too skimpy to be functional. And I guess the cloak came with new skirt and top. And what's with that insolence with Elizabeth at the door: Demelza was always always respectful, and fearful of people above her station. If she was trying to display shy deference, it was a big miss...

Yes Yes Yes Yes. How in the heck did they decide on Red Hair???? It annoyed me no end in the original and now, when they had the oppty to get it right, they did it again! Argh. And yes, the gal this time is too tall by far and too boyish in body. I could have lived with the light brown Elizabeth if Demelza had been correctly Cornish small and dark -- there would be the right sort of contrast. However the new characterization of Elizabeth is completely off and that I'm going to have a really hard time with. And yeah, not sure Francis is right either. I almost thought they needed to swap George and Francis: George is supposed to be more bull-necked and coarse-featured (grandson of blacksmith after all). And finally someone said up-thread about all the cliff-top galloping and I have to agree: it was just too much time-filler. And noone loves enjoying footage of good horses more than me. Ah well, I'll watch it because it's Sunday nights....

Say Yes To The Dress - General Discussion
DHDancer replied to Rhondinella's topic in Say Yes To The Dress
<<most important day of your life>> Was there ever a sadder statement to be made by a 20 something? I want to know just how many orders are canceled within the 3 day buyer's remorse rule? I have to suspect the number could be quite high for these ridiculous choices.... And yeah, I'm all for a Where Are They Now for all the spoiled bridezillas -
I presume many of Maddie's appearances are actually "product placements" paid for either by the producers or the mothers. I've been wondering for quite a while how much these parents are spending to fly back and forward to all these competitions, to the coasts, and now these music video sessions, acting lessons etc. I'm sure the recent couple of series have been paid for mostly by production, but in the earlier days I couldn't believe parents could afford all that "this week we're going to xxx competition" flights and hotels. I also wonder about the health of the marriages and other siblings. Regarding this episode I too LOVED the way Nia talked and responded to Abbey and I swear I spotted a couple of tongue in cheek faces from her. I think she's grown into a well balanced mature young 14 year old. And yes, I loved her video -- shows just how lovely looking a girl she's become.

I expected more. Did love Rollo's Hello. Showing gothic vaulted ceilings in the French cathedral took me out of it (yelling anachronism!)

Not going to happen :) I have no time for reading people's trivialities...and happy to throw the baby out with the bathwater re Twitter and FB

Oh ok, my bad for mis-comprehension of what you wrote. Thanks for the explanation. I don't do Twitter or FB. Oh, and I think the Bear and the princess connected across the crowded battlements, oui?

Hilarious ending? I didn't see anything particularly funny. I didn't care for the "they're dead, oh no they're not" ..... Disappointing episode but not so much the content as the beyond ridiculous 5 minutes content, 10 minutes commercials format. Seriously???? I'm going to stop watching this live and just stream it.

OMG, I snorted coffee reading this. This image really appealed to me because I'm way more into my dogs than FB (I hate FB).

Say Yes To The Dress - General Discussion
DHDancer replied to Rhondinella's topic in Say Yes To The Dress
Yeah, especially when many of these dresses are made offshore, in India and China! I think it's an excellent observation and I thank you for that. Is there a forum yet for the new show about Heidi Elnora's Bride-by-Design custom dresses? -
Re the colors: I'm thinking of the Uncle and the rabbi who are the ones confusing most folks: Uncle is in shirtsleeves, plain yamuka (sp), rabbi seems to be wearing a particular woven pattern thingy. They are obviously same generation, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out they attended the same religious classes as peers so they will represent the good guys and the bad guys (ie both sides have equal knowledge).

I've finally caught up. I stopped watching 1/2 way through the pilot because I was trying to multi-task and not giving DIG the right amount of attention. Hesitated about watching after reading the early forum responses to the pilot, but what can I say other than Jason Isaacs. Having just re-watched Jason Isaacs in Case Histories (brilliant! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1748888/reference) I decided to binge watch DIG to catch up. So, here's my take, not just on this episode (sorry moderator!): 1. Bald guy is the Essine that ambushed Avram/Cow/other guy in Norway. He's part of that desert cult. Obviously from this episode, he cannot kill the cow yet -- he needs to wait for a phase of the moon. It remains to be seen if he's also there to get Avram. 2. Golan's partner is also a police officer -- I think he's the guy who appears as a gofer with faxes, files etc. I'm also suspecting he's giving info to the 'enemy' (ref car accident) 3. I think Emma Wilson deliberately dyed her hair to look like the dead daughter. Nothing she did is looking like coincidence at this point. She made sure he saw the lamb sacrifice ritual in the cave and oh look, where they were perched to witness that, the next day is suddenly bricked over... Oh, and she planted the stone/jewel to set him to his task. It remains to be seen which faction she is/was part of. 4. I still can't figure out the tie with the Norwegian middle-of-nowhere guy and the Orthodox Jewish guys who turned up en masse, Oh well... moving right along So, that's my take on plot points raised in this episode thread. I'm enjoying the show (I think binge watching helped establish continuity) but I agree it is hard to quickly figure out who is who at times but they are using colors and textiles to help if you clue into that. Can't agree more that the Ann Heche character is a waste (never cared for her as an actor anyway). The ambassador is interesting but a bit of the absolute power corrupts absolutely trope IMO. The New Mexico nutcase/sect makes me despair at people's gullibility: I'm not sure what role Debbie has to play here other than as a small voice of reason who will continue to lack credibility as an ex-addict. I too was delighted that BoyFriend turned up (and I know he won't go quietly: he has to end up as Debbie's savior IMO). Count me in with the Josh/Damian vibe -- what a prize manipulator that kid is. Oh, and yeah, I need them to catch the bad guy: I'm exhausted by all the running (it makes me remember David Tennant's comment once about Dr Who involving lots and lots of running during his stint). I'm looking forward to the rest of the episodes. I'm glad it's a one off too. edited to correct Wilson
