My heart broke for Norman as he sat with the doctor at the coffee shop. Poor, sick, murdering Norman--it's a hard thing to do to make you feel sympathy and sadness for a killer, but Highmore--who has improved so significantly over the years--sells it so well. He lets his eyes tell the story. That scene was kind of devastating. As was the scene at the bar, when he began to realize the extent to which Norma has taken over his mind and body---that he's picking up men in bars and having sex with them in parking lots, and apparently has been long enough for just about everyone in that bar to know him well, as "Norma"...he played it like he'd been gut-punched, which I'd imagine is what it would have felt like. I didn't actually see that one coming. Also devastating was the pretty sparkly life of Emma and Dylan breaking. It's still hard for me to believe that neither of them had googled any info back home before now, but at least Emma finally did, and now it's all going to go to hell. I hated their fight, it was so hard to see. I didn't hate Rhianna, but she's not a strong enough actor to be on this particular show. She looked good, but yeah, the almost constant 'reminder' of how hot she was by every male in her world was overkill, especially when Madeline is prettier than she is. Sam, who will always be weaselly Spencer from WD to me, is again such a weasel, but man, he's cute. It's weird, I didn't really find him attractive on WD, mostly cuz of his character or lack thereof, but he is just as big--more, actually--a douchebag here, but he's so handsome. Was Sam Loomis married in the movie? Can't remember. I saw in the credits that Carleton Cuse was actually ON the show last nite, thanx for confirming he was the cop. Fun Hitchcockian thing to do.

I read this speculation--which is presented as a spoiler, but it's really just one person's notion of what happened-- on some FB post...and people are so excited about it. It's egregiously terrible, if it were to actually be a thing. But the folks there are acting like it's some kind of master class of television idea. I don't get people. I think it's been alluded to, the basic notion of it, here before. Ugh.

I get that, and that's nice, that she's finally growing up a little...but her judgement of Paul Louis' hours and job are not yet earned. Her being responsible for approximately only ten minutes, and not one of her friends having remotely matured doesn't mean she gets to feel morally superior to him, which is how it came off to me. He is so good. On another level good. Which is why I wonder if we're supposed to think aspiring-actor-Adam is actually on level with the real Adam, is really THAT good. One of my fave scenes between he and Jessa was when she was watching him on that L&O type show and seemed shocked and pleased with how talented he was. Anyway, I already mentioned this once, but if you can see Driver in 'Paterson', do it. He's amazing. Not remotely alone. I think for every person who has posted they'd like to see them as endgame, another has mentioned they do not. I don't.

That's not really my recollection of how things went down with them, and I might be wrong, or at least, it might have been open to debate, cuz it's not clear. Hannah left for the writer's retreat, and they seemed to have a weird 'on a break' situation, where they didn't have any contact with each other and maybe agreed to see other people, tho that also was not clear( there was just some line from Hannah at a party that indicated to me that she figured she might as well sleep with other people cuz he was, or something). It seemed really clear to me that Adam believed Hannah had broken up with him. Now, his breaking down walls and more or less moving Mimi Rose in was weird and wrong and too fast and stupid, but I think he believed he wasn't doing anything wrong. And he and Jessa taking up with each other was very hurtful, would be for anyone. But all of these girls are essentially such kind of terrible people in so many ways that I just don't pile it onto Jessa. They all suck. I still like watching them tho. And I thought Shosh and Ray WERE a serious couple. I just realized that Marnie's mom's ska-band blonde floozy friend Sharva was Azura Skye (best/worst mostly fake name ever). I loved her in '28 Days', I thought she was so touching, and I really thought she'd become a star. she's worked since then but did not have the career trajectory I'd thought she might. And it's funny that she's nearly half Rita Wilson's age (and only a few years older than Allison Williams)--of course Marnie's mom would be besties with someone young enuf to be her daughter. Hannah using the pull out method is so disturbing. It's a wonder UTIs are all she's gotten infected with. And her judgey-ness over Paul Louis' less than stable job and 'weird' days off of Thursday and Tuesday was annoying, as she and none of her friends have ever, as far as I can tell, had a steady job.

Yeah, I don't hate Rebecca or even find her unlikable. She's reserved and a little rigid. She's not the fun mom. Jack gets to be the fun dad. He's so (supposedly) likable that people forgive him anything, and make his drunk driving Rebecca's fault. I think Mandy Moore is a perfectly fine actress. I loved her in Saved! and as JD's girlfriend who didn't laugh (my bf and I still say 'that's so funny' sometimes instead of laughing, to, you know, make each other laugh). I loved her unlikely pairing with Ryan Adams and was sorry it didn't last. I think she's fine here, but I don't love her. But I don't really love ANYone on here, yet.

I hope this is true. I hope for no big bow and no MR Big kind of wrap ups with Adam, and I have some faith they'll do it better than that. But I didn't think Hannah would wind up pregnant, either, so what do I know?
-
To be clear, I generally do think sleeping with/dating/getting involved with a friend's ex is bad form and I'd never do it. And my fondness for Jessa no doubt colors my view of the situation. I was unaware, tho, that all of the 'Girls' were not supposed to be friends, or at least, friendly. Marnie had already slept with Ray when she told Shosh, hadn't she? If Jessa had told Hannah instead of just letting her discover it, would that make a difference? Was Hannah's blow job/assault attempt on Ray something Hannah should have mentioned to Shosh? The lines of ethics and boundaries are really murky with this bunch.

How is a guy named Jesus being gay an insult to Christians? Also, I know a gay guy named Mohammed. I liked the Darryl/Maggie scene, but I don't hate them, and was glad Daryl had showered, so there's that. I can't claim to know how I'd react in Maggie's shoes but I never occurred to me that she'd blame HIM for Negan's thuggy stupid murdering ways. I have no problem with Rosita or anyone opportunistically hooking up with men who could provide her skills but also for the fun sex part in the ZA. We survive how we survive. I did think that they'd both laugh over how, had it not been a ZA, neither of them would have ever even glanced Abraham's big ginger way.

I'm not sure of Adam's message either. I think, at least, it's telling her he DID love her. I also it's going to make her fall in love with him again, if she's actually ever fallen OUT of love with him. I hope not, tho. Let's not Mr. Big this shit, please, Girls.

I liked her. She was a little manic and shot out rapid fire questions when the historians and experts were just trying to already tell her, but that was enthusiasm and interest; I didn't mind it. She also made the parallels that Julie Bowen did about immigrants then and now, which is hard to argue. And from the neck down, in her little floaty dress, and especially in her stripey shirt and jeans, she still looks like Baby. Her rush of emotion upon confirming that her great grandmother had died in childbirth was touching.

I don't think we're supposed to think Adam's film is bad. And I think I like the chemistry with him and Faux-Hannah better than he and Actual-Hannah. I do not want them to be endgame. I don't want any of these folks to be each others' end game, including Ray and Shosh. I do like Hannah and Elijah as the baby-parents, and liked Elijah sort of apologizing. I love every single thing about Elijah. Except his tighty whities. Gay men usually have better taste in underwear. Did we know he worked at Bendel's before last nite? I have absolutely no problem with him becoming a Broadway diva, and I just hope he's cast in "Hedwig". Skinny does not equal good body for me, especially too skinny. Skeletal is no more sexy than fat. Marnie looked kind of gorgeous last nite, to me (the smudgey eye did it for me) but she's way too skinny. I'm unsure who is more annoying, Marnie or her mom. I think her mom. I did like how happy Marnie was about Hannah's pregnancy, and I did like Hannah telling her it was no surprise that Ray dumped her cuz she's always such a cunt to him. I liked the Hannah/Jessa scene. Jessa mostly deserves Hannah shutting her down, tho I'm unclear, still, on just how bad Jessa's friend-crime was. Hannah dumped Adam, Jessa didn't steal him. I'm not into snatching up your friends' past boyfriends, just in general, but nobody seems to care that Marnie did it to Shoshonna, and this is an ethically challenged group of friends anyway.

I don't follow any of them and I rarely bother with twitter, but it all shows up in my FB feed from entertainment sites. I don't even read them (most of the time), but just the headlines are enough to make me roll my eyes as I scroll past. As do all the 'All the feels!!' and 'I had to change my clothes after watching TIU because tears and snot' posts all over my feed.

i don't really like her that much either. I just don't think she's the whore of Babylon. She's flawed. So's jack. They're both pretty annoying.
-
Well of course. Jack did an asshole thing. People do. It's real. Rebecca is imperfect and fucks up too. Why all the compassion and excuses for jack and zero for her?
-
I don't think she was wrong to leave, and I also don't think she would have been wrong to stay. I don't think yours is an unpopular opinion. More posters seemed appalled by the idea that she'd finish the gig or the tour after she got hit on. I think that would have been no big deal either. But I also think she left more because jack was being a drunken asshole than anything. Also an UO, probably: I don't really think Ben is a skeeve. Hitting on married people isn't admirable and cheating sucks, but he apparently had feelings for Rebecca and he took a shot. He stopped when she shut him down. If he was one of our protagonists, instead of the enemy of perfect jack, some would cheer him on for fighting for love. I love that lion-dog commercial. Yes, it has a subtlety this show has no acquaintanceship with. All the over hyping and smugness about making America cry is annoying, but I don't actually want the show to suddenly nosedive and fail, either. I like most of the cast, I don't want them to crash n burn. I just want the writers to do better.

It's pretty interesting how you've imagined a scenario to try to lessen the import of Jack's drunk driving. He was drunk. He got drunker, while driving. And cold air and coffee just make one a more awake drunk, not a more sober one. Jack is an asshole for driving drunk. There is not an excuse. Rebecca has a lot of flaws and might not be terribly likable, but she didn't do anything on the level of what he did on this night. Jack is a likable guy, arguably a better person than Rebecca, overall, but trying to minimize his drunken behavior doesn't make it less destructive and stupid. Ugh I don't care if they break up. I'm not invested in them. All love affairs and marriages start with you thinking it's forever and the most special perfect relationship ever, like jack does. Sometimes they last, sometimes they don't. The showrunners and actors here seem to believe we're seeing a much more magickal connection here than I'm seeing, so I just don't really care that much.

I think Nick is super cute, so I personally have no problem believing women fall for him, even Megan Fox. I mean, sure, he's kind of dense, but nobody on this show is a rocket scientist. Is Jess on a school break or something? How can she just take off from being principal on a whim?
-
That's what I was alluding to, and exactly what it reminded me (it's also one of my very fave movies). It also reminded me of Gondry's The Science of Sleep. I get why some find this just a puff/bottle episode, more style than substance. Sometimes that bugs me when I'm watching a show, sometimes not. In this case, I was just riveted. Entranced, even, it was all so audacious and beautiful. But I see why some just find it a distraction.

I think if anyone can do it justice, it will be Bryan fuller.

As mentioned above, Haley goes--or, at least, went, I have no idea of her school status at this point--to community college.

I never found milo attractive either--well, I mean objectively I could see he met the standard requirements to be considered generally attractive by most--but he never 'did anything' for me personally and I often outright didn't like him. For some reason, tho, I do find him extremely attractive as jack, even tho I don't care all that damn much about jack. And that's all despite the pornstache and slicked back hair. And part of the appeal for me IS his voice, which reminds me of Keanu Reeves', even tho I have never cared for Keanu Reeves. So--it's basically all inexplicable.

She wasn't working for Toby's ex wife. His ex owned a shop, she stalked her there, interviewed with her, didn't take the job. Her job was with the Jamie Gertz character. She's not Toby's ex, that's not Toby's daughter.

I thought this episode was very funny, but the whole Larry-the-Cat thing isn't funny. These folks are all terrible with animals, except for Jay with Stella. My honey and I were both ridiculously amused by the Pig Moon thing, and wanted Cam to break out his Piggy Man impression from AHS. Alas, no.

I don't have kids and I can't manage any of that. Efficiency and tidiness have never been my strong suit. I'm impressed by anyone who can manage this stuff, let alone someone with kids, whether they have an outside job or not. I don't think everyone who hates/dislikes/disapproves of Rebecca is a he man woman hating misogynist. She can be judged just like any other character on the show. I do think there's a lot of piling on against her, here and otherwise, and I do think some misogyny is at work in some of it. No need, I think, to take offense when you know that's not your thing or your reason. I don't think anyone is painting the Rebecca haters with THAT broad a brush, but I do think there are elements of something deeply ugly within the hate, in some cases. I imagine that's what's being reacted to. Me: I don't really care that much about her. Or Jack. I don't hate them, I don't love them, I don't...believe them. The actors do their best (with varying levels of success) but I'm not sold on them that much one way or another. They're both sure pretty, tho.

Ugh, yeah, all of this. It makes no sense with the timelines we've (sort of) been given, or the things you've mentioned. And it's a horrible, cloying, manipulative, stupid awful idea. So it's probably exactly what they're planning.
