    Sinners (2025)

I was wondering. What category do you think Sinners will be placed in for the Golden Globes? Best Musical or Best Drama? I lean towards musical.

Remmick gave me Jim Jones vibes because the cult was promoting a multicultural utopia but was stripping people of their autonomy once they joined. Remmick longs for community but only under his control.
  5. An analysis if Patti Lupone’s apology I keep thinking if the positions were reversed and an actress had made a noise complaint to the owner against a show Patti was starring in instead of reaching out to Patti’s show directly leading to forced changes to the sound design that Patti probably would have been livid. I think Patti sees things from her perspective and wasn’t considering how it would affect others. She’s always been someone who spoke her mind not caring about opinions and that is something fans have admired in the her. But this was just being unnecessarily hostile. Want to learn why Andrew Lloyd Webber paid a fortune to Patti Lupone? In this case, I was on Patti’s side because the way Andrew tried to play the actresses involved in Sunset Boulevard against each other was manipulative as hell.

Someone online made a snarky comment saying he didn’t like Sinners because he couldn’t figure out if it was supposed to be a horror movie or a musical. To me it’s both and that’s a great thing. Musicals can be horror and horror can be a musical. Movies don’t have to be in a box where they must fit neatly into one genre. I’m dying to see a live version of “I Lied to You” performed at the Oscars. This scene was just stunning. Rocky Road to Dublin Sinner’s Parodies He’s a mass murderer not a racist Lego Sinners

  8. Keica Lewis’ statement regarding Patti’s noice complaint. I do wonder if the offense was taken because Patti didn’t reach out to anyone from Hell’s Kitchen directly to discuss the music being heard through the walls. Patti went over their heads to the head of the Schuberts to force the changes she wanted. I can see that rubbing the team at Hell’s Kitchen the wrong way. I honestly don’t know if race was a factor or if Patti was being privileged because of her position as a theatre legend to pressure people in a show with less power than her. I do think the diplomatic thing would have been to reach out to Hell’s Kitchen’s team directly before calling the theater owners. Is Patti being a diva or is she being a bigot? Details from Patti’s interview Patti apologizes https://people.com/patti-lupone-apologizes-amid-audra-mcdonald-controversy-broadway-backlash-11745689 Patti being so angry at Audra because she liked a Kecia’s post on social media is just wild. Also the name calling from Patti and the disparaging of Kecia’s career was completely unnecessary.

  10. I think a plot where Mia is actively trying to learn how to rule and her grandmother has trouble letting go of control is what would have worked better as a focal point. They acknowledge that grandma needs to let go but don’t show Mia really trying to be a ruler. She’s ignorant to the point that she lacks knowledge she probably could have found with some google searches. Mia is so passive until it’s the last minute. Even with attending college she could have put in more effort to learn about the country she supposed to be head of. They show off how wealthy they are and so a tutor could have been working with her while she attended college so she’s not so clueless. Mia’s likable but she half asses things until a rival comes along. Then she finds out about requirements she didn’t bother to look into even though she had years to prepare. She doesn’t try until circumstances force her to make an effort which makes her come off poorly. It’s just a bad script. There was a lot of potential. The romance between the queen and body guard was my favorite part. I think the plot of Mia falling for her rival still works because they have chemistry. But they didn’t have to make her look so unprepared. I don’t know why they wrote her that way when it’s so unnecessary. She could have been knowledgeable and actively fighting the against the requirements from the beginning. That could be what her rival uses against her, that she’s trying to change traditions. But then they fall in love and that complicates their rivalry. He could offer to marry her giving up his claim to the throne, but she refuses based on the principle that requiring marriage is unfair. Then after successfully overturning the law they get engaged.
  11. I actually like MI2. I’m amused that it’s basically an action movie remake of Hitchcock’s Notorious. Instead of adding Grace I wish they’d either brought back Thandiwe Newton or if she was unavailable then maybe her and Ethan could have had a child Ethan didn’t know about because it was decided that being Ethan’s child made them a target. So it was safer to break up with Ethan and hide their baby from his enemies. Rogue Nation is probably my favorite of all of them. The Final Reckoning had some serious pacing issues. I thought the submarine and ending plan sequences needed trimming. Overall I didn’t hate it.
  12. Mia in Princess Diaries 2 She has had years to prepare to become queen but has done nothing. She hasn’t studied up on the requirements and duties cause she’s shocked that her getting married is mandated. There are traditional ceremonies where she has to do things like shoot an arrow and ride a horse side saddle which she had years to learn but waits until the last moment. We’re supposed to root for her despite her not bothering to learn the job requirements to be queen because she’s nice to people. She remembers the names of rich people at parties and is charitable to orphans. But she hasn’t bothered to really put effort into what she needs to learn to be queen. It makes the people who are working against her somewhat sympathetic because she hasn’t used the years to really get involved in the government side of things. She could have actually learned about the country she was going to run and could have fought against policies like the marriage requirement years before things got critical. She’s a ceremonial leader but doesn’t show she can run anything.
  13. Ellie noticed some fireflies in the woods which I think acts a reminder of her suspicions that Joel didn’t tell her the truth.
  14. I think Ellie suffers from “Survivor’s Guilt”. So many people have died around her but she persists. She wants to save people even if it means losing her life. I think Joel’s actions with the Fireflies were definitely going to make her angry with him but I think it hurt her even more that he deceived her. It’s the lie that I think did the most damage to their relationship. The same with Eugene in that Joel promised her to let Eugene see his wife and then killed him anyway. Lying to her damages the trust she has in him. I still think the show did a poor job selling the idea that killing Ellie was definitely going to lead to a cure to the audience but the narrative makes it clear the characters within the show believe it to be true.
  15. In Cookie’s Fortune, Camille (Glen Close) finds her Aunt Cookie dead by suicide. Camille considers this embarrassing for the family so she destroys the suicide note and stages the scene to look like it’s a murder. Camille in general is a terrible person who treats her sister Cora like a doormat. When an innocent man is arrested for the murder that Camille knows is actually suicide she doesn’t come forward with the truth to clear his name. Cora isn’t a saint in this situation because she doesn’t come forward about the suicide either, but the movie makes it clear that Camille is very controlling with Cora who doesn’t stand up for herself. Camille’s ending is well deserved.

I was thinking about doomed the club was. If it wasn't vampires, it would have been the KKK. If not the KKK, than it would have been the gangsters in Chicago the twins got the liquor from. It works as a horror story or a crime story or a drama or even as a diegetic musical. It's the kind of movie that makes you want to talk about it when it's over and watch again. There are so many layers with the characters and the attention to historical details.
