Yes, why hire professionals when there are obviously so many people who want their 15 minutes of fame, to show the world how they don't get along with their spouse, their children, or friends, and that they have unrealistic ideas about life in other countries and how much $$ it takes to live there. This is a producers dream show. After many, many years of watching HH & HHI, I am still entertained, and once in a while I learn something about a country or area new to me.

For $2 million I would want to live where there is some shade, birds chirping, no noisy wave runners or speed boats, and parties daily. This place looked like a weekend vacation spot for rich people, and not a place where there are residents year round. Is someone on this forum knowledgeable about Parker, AZ? Maybe the husband owns a welding business, and he said his wife is in 'finance', so that could be anything, but obviously one or both make a lot of $$. They said they sold their Huntington Beach, CA house and I imagine that brought in a lot of money. Anyway, another place to cross off of my list to live or even visit. I like shade (I'm a deep South girl), greenery, and birds - and quiet. Oh, and I really didn't like any of the places they toured.

I came here to discuss the Sunshine Coast episode where a woman from England moved to Australia after her divorce, and she was finding employment as a private detective. Her budget was $700,000 which is a pretty nice divorce settlement, but she said she would be making less than she did in England. She wanted 4 bedrooms, 2+ baths, a pool, big kitchen, and close to beach. She ended up not close to the beach, and when the realtor said there were probably snakes in the attic storage area of the house she chose, that would have been the red flag for me. I've never seen that realtor before, and he got in some pretty sharp quips.

I probably would prefer the climate of the Pacific NW to that of Phoenix as well, but wow the prices are high for very little space. Maybe elsewhere in the state the prices are better.

I didn't understand Drew's bet in final Jeopardy today. He went for a tie by betting zero. Josh bet it all and had the correct answer. Why wouldn't Drew bet just $1 which would have him winning outright since they both had the correct answer? Of course, if Josh hadn't fallen under the "I'll make it a true daily double" when he had a lot of $$ riding on that bet, and gave the wrong answer, he might have won. The DD clues are usually harder than the rest of the category, or at least I think they seem to be.

Same here, and I live in south Louisiana. You name it, we have it in the category of insects! My pest control guy is on my speed dial. Between the insects and the heat and humidity, our climate is similar to tropics.

For some reason, my DVR did not pick up the finale show after the cheese dessert semi final show. It will be rebroadcast on Food Network on Friday so I can watch it then. Doesn't matter that I know in advance who won, I enjoy watching the techniques by each contestant.

The husband in the Birmingham couple on last night's episode was showing some common sense with his remarks about older houses and replacing big ticket items in them. Loved it when he saw the old HVAC system in one house, and commented that the sellers had painted it black which was like putting lipstick on a pig. He was in the HVAC business and knew it was going to be at least $10,000 to replace that system which was old. Their reason for wanting to get out of the house they were selling was because it was small (1,300 sf), and the basement had a history of flooding - ugh! I wondered how easy it had been for them to sell a house with a history of basement water problems. They bought the house with the old HVAC system, and were planning to expand the primary bedroom, so they must have had some $$ in reserve to take care of those things.

Haven't seen any new comments on here in a while. My DVR has been recording what seem like new episodes lately. The format has changed a bit in the episodes I have watched in that a lot of the prep work scenes have been deleted, and the builds begin after the site has been cleared & the build is ready to begin. Latest one was what was billed as an underground house in Virginia. The house really wasn't under the ground, but was a fiberglass frame with dirt piled on top of it. I couldn't figure out how fresh air got into the house since it had only a couple of operable windows. Also had a giant round front door which the owners said weighed 200 pounds.

I thought the same thing! I recently began reading The Accidental President, which covers the 4 months from when Truman became president and the historical months that followed. Lots of interesting biographical tidbits about how his life up until the time he became vice president just before Roosevelt died.

I thought the same thing, and also thought that might be why he kept emphasizing a place for him to work out. Even her own mother tried to shut her down a couple of times. I certainly would not have been proud of being the subject of that episode.

Back to back episodes last night, and maybe they were reruns with different titles that fooled my DVR into recording them. The first one involved a couple who the husband dubbed 'the Bickersons', and OMG they were awful. They were living with her parents, and I figure her parents threw a party when the couple finally found a house and moved out. The mother tried to referee a couple of times. I barely remember the house they finally bought. This is one couple that definitely needs to be shows on a future HHWATN episode to see if divorce court was in their future. Another episode that my DVR recorded involved a man searching for a house in Clovis, NM, and his budget was below $200,000. None of the houses he looked at were attractive, IMO. He did have a good rapport with his realtor, and was concerned that the house be suitable for his elderly mother who would be visiting for long periods of time. He finally settled on a bungalow style house, and although he kept talking about wanting a house where he could showcase his collection of things he had acquired from his world travels during his job with the Air Force, the reveal didn't show anything like that. He talked about having an off site storage unit for his off season clothes, and he also owned another house in Florida. It was sort of an odd story.

I don't know what comes over some of the contestants who have $3,000+ to say "make it a true daily double" risking everything for the possibility of giving a wrong answer, falling to zero, and very possibly not being able to hang around for final jeopardy. Also when they are playing against a contestant who has proven they have good buzzer and brain skills, it's probably not a good idea to to think you will be able to claw your way back to the top. Oh well, I'm not a good gambler as I have stated before. On a shallow note, I loved Josh's tie. The colors and pattern were beautiful.

I just watched the 3rd & last episode of the latest season, and it was great. I wish there were at least 4 or 5 episodes a season. Was nice to see a familiar face from Midsomer Murders in the guest appearances. I think I will go back and rewatch all of the previous episodes to help fill my longing for next season.

I think I remember that some acreage was included in 2 of the 3 places. Someone can check and clarify that for me, because I may be mistaken. I also thought the prices were high, but if land is included, that might be the reason for the high price. 2 of those places weren't even up to the levels of glamping - IMO.

I have never seen the movie Mary Poppins, but I know the story line. I live in south Louisiana where it gets very warm/hot in spring. Our schools did not have air conditioning until the late 60's or early 70's, so the classrooms were hot with only a fan to help circulate the air in addition to open windows. When I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade, our teacher would make all of the students in her class put their heads down on their desks and rest after lunch recess while she read to us from a Mary Poppins book for probably 30 minutes. I think I usually fell asleep lulled into slumber by the heat, the drone of the fan, and my teacher's voice. I really don't remember much about Mary Poppins other than it was the book my teacher chose to read to us after lunch in 1956.

I love the season ending with Tami Nelson singing. The music in the first couple of seasons was one of the things that drew me into the show. That's been missing in the last couple of seasons, IMO. Looked like the cast was genuinely having fun.

I liked the realtor for the Chicago couple. Even she said the ant issue was a new one for her. My issue with that type of counter top pattern is not being able to see crumbs, or small things that get hidden in the pattern. Even wiping the counters daily (if not more often) doesn't guarantee that you will see everything. I prefer a solid white or cream color counter because of that.

I'll jump in with you because I thought Ken looked great in a dark suit with that blue tie. I think those are colors that compliment him. I was excited to see Louisiana Parishes as a topic since I live in Louisiana. Yes, I got all of them.

She said she has become an on-line nanny when internet is available. How does that work? Does she give advice? Do people pay for that type of service? So many questions about the entire situation.

I think the Vanuatu woman should have taken some of the $$ she had saved and checked into a small, exclusive resort for about a month to recharge her mental batteries, instead of flying halfway around the world to a remote island. HHI producers must have thought they struck gold when this woman applied for the show. In response to someone's previous question, it was noted that Sam, the realtor, lived on a nearby island and not on the same one where Justine is living. There was a 2nd episode about a couple moving from the San Francisco area to Christchurch, New Zealand. They supposedly had no jobs, and were buying a million dollar house. I think you have to have a job to move to NZ permanently, but I may be wrong. I'm sure they made a nice profit from the sale of their house in California. The wife mentioned 'bench tops' a couple of times instead of counters (the American reference) which was sort of a give away that they had lived there for a while. The dog was cool.

Thanks for the correction. I have never seen the remake. The first one was pretty scary to a 9 year old child.

Well, that game yesterday was weird, IMO. Even Ken finally said something to the effect of pick something any of you can answer, not in those exact words, but I think he wanted to. Loved The Blob. I grew up in the 50's, and saw a lot of those "B" horror movies. I later found out it was filmed here in Louisiana, not far from where I live.

Thank you so much for that comment! Drives me crazy when a realtor, or a HH, uses that term for a drop in, under mount sink. I heard it twice during recent shows, and the sinks were not farmhouse sinks.

Regarding the Baton Rouge show. I live in Baton Rouge, and none of those houses were really in Baton Rouge according to a real estate source I know who works with the realtor. They were in adjoining parishes (counties), and according to an article in our local paper before the show aired, the HH's were also shown houses that flooded in 2016 when we had hundreds of houses underwater in many areas so that's why the prices were cheap on a few. Personally, I would not have bought any of those houses. The guys were nice, and they both got what they wanted - a project house, and close proximity to the sister. BTW, traffic problems here are so bad, that it can take 30 minutes to drive 3 or 4 miles in certain areas.
