  1. No, it wasn't in the last minute. It was one of those short bits before they introduce the next house. One of them said they thought they were naming the dog after something in Gaelic, but then someone told them the dog's name in Yiddish meant "hernia". Yes, this was an episode that all HH's should try to emulate as far as behavior on national TV.
  2. I really enjoyed the Washington, DC episode. The buyers were interesting and not demanding with their desires in a house. I really appreciated their humor, especially the story about the dog's name. The realtor was great. She explained a lot of things and pointed out the good, the bad and the ugly in an appropriate manner instead of just walking through the house and saying "this is the living" or "this is the kitchen". I hope this house redo is featured in a future episode of House Hunters Renovation. I'm sure it will be a tasteful and appropriation renovation.
  3. Did they ever explain why there was a cemetary marker in the back yard of one of those houses in last night's episode. I was distracted by the woman's appearance. It looked like she had prepared for her 15 minutes of TV fame by getting a spray tan and her teeth whitened and an odd haircut. The husband was pretty laid back and I loved his response to her gripe about no tub in the master bath by saying he had never seen her take a bath. She then said she wanted a tub for Emma, but the hall bath had a tub. Why do people think every bathroom needs a tub, especially if the bathroom that the child will be using has one? While I'm sure many historic houses are lovely and have their fans, I could never live in one like the house they showed last night. Very small, tiny kitchen, not energy efficient, but someone had taken cae of the house and maintained it beautifully from what we were shown.
  4. KimKam, no one will ooooh and aaaaah over clean drainage pipes, but they will admire your very expensive, hand tiled backsplash. I would have put the backsplash on hold and fixed the plumbing. When his toilet is backing up all over the new floor, he can go to the kitchen and zone out looking at the backsplash.
  5. The Easter Island husband was going to start a tourism business on the island and she was giving surfing lessons.
  6. I had a house that had an 18 foot ceiling in the living room. Yes, it looked nice, but it was impossible to clean the top windows on the inside and the only way to clean the outside was to hire it done because I couldn't climb a ladder to do it. Windows that are the least bit dirty look even worse when the sun shines through them. Also, try cleaning those light fixtures in the grand entries. Unless you intend to clean them or have someone who will, you will be hiring that done too or ignoring the cobwebs and dust that will collect. Sometimes, the house hunters seem to overlook the practical sides of maintaining a house.
  7. The North Carolina wife wanted a house just like the one her parent have. Um, didn't quite get that did they? A tea room? In what universe do these first time buyers live? They had $180,000 to spend and they wanted a $500,000 house. The husband is going to be lead around for the rest of that marriage by the ring in his nose. He's probably embarrassed today after that exchange about him wanting a more "rusticky" type of house. How does one spell rusticky? I agreed with him about the deck with no stairs from it to the yard. I guess that's a future project for them, because the wife said she just couldn't picture them ever moving. She won't be happy there in 2 years.
  8. OSM Mom, I grew up and live in south Louisiana and we did not have A/C in our house until 1962. You are correct that dealing with temps in the 90's or higher and high humidity is not fun. Unless the wind was always blowing, I would insist on A/C for comfort, and screens to keep out the unwanted pests. A few days at a beach resort might be fun, but living it 365 days would get old fast - IMO.
  9. Down by the shore - if I remember correctly, her name was Shawna. In the 3rd episode, she and her husband had a young child.
  10. The wife commented how westernized the housing was in Viet Nam as opposed to what they found in China - dishwasher, large refrigerator, 4 burner range, etc. They both seemed surprised at what they encountered. That was a very generous monthly housing budget they had and I'm assuming the energy company he worked for provided that for them. I commented elsewhere that I don't think that was fog all over the city, but probably air pollution.
