  1. Hugh Grant's character doesn't seem to me to have the passion necessary to carry on an all-consuming affair with Elena, let alone to bash her face in (which appeared to be what happened to her body?) Also I don't understand why he would have gone out, murdered someone, come back home, and then left for his (supposed) trip - if he was going to cover his tracks it seems he would have wanted the murder to have appeared to happen while he was out of town. Although clearly he didn't do a good job establishing that he even left town if he wasn't even registered at a hotel there. On the other hand, you have Donald Sutherland and Lily Rabe, who are both capable of very intense characterizations. Though Sutherland's character wouldn't do hands-on dirty work like killing Elena, especially in that fashion - he'd hire it out. I could see Lily Rabe coming out of nowhere. Was she the one into the Hockneys? Maybe she visited Elena under the guise of wanting to check out her art. Maybe we will learn that Nicole Kidman's character is capable of very vivid daydreams - the scenes with Hugh Grant and his child patient, she couldn't have been 'remembering' those since she wouldn't have been there. Were those scenes meant to indicate she hoped that was what was happening? (vs the reality of her husband coming home crying about his dead patient) Maybe she imagined the gym locker room scene as a kind of role play which would explain its oddness. That could make it a bit like "Marcella" though (for those who watched that) - if she goes into fugue states occasionally and can't account for what happened.
  2. We have people here on the thread saying Sister Alice didn't have any foreknowledge of her mother's plan to steer the car away from the cemetery and find a baby in the street. A view I shared, in the moment, during that episode. But then at the end of the finale with Perry challenges Alice about resurrecting the baby, Alice says, "I did, didn't I?" What did she mean by that, if we think she disavowed her mother's scheme? That she is basically acquiescing to the idea that Emily accepts the new baby as hers, so on some 'spiritual' level she did bring Charlie back? Or is she just sort of facetiously saying, 'well, we both know I didn't, but a good number of my mother's new flock believes I did, so let's go with their version.'? (I found the character very compelling and unconventional but I didn't think her closing scene served her very well.) I guess her version of 'there's what's legal, and there's what's right' is 'there's what true and there's what feels true.' (and that's what faith is?) I'm just trying to spin that exchange into something more meaningful.
  3. Did folks here take it as proof of Birdie’s involvement when we saw her being stitched up above her eye with black thread? Or merely proof that the same church doctor likely stitched Charlie’s eyes open with the same thread? He seemed to follow her orders since she waved him away in order to have the new Charlie brought to her. Also: did anyone else think it a little odd for Hazel to be dancing gleefully to ‘Million Dollar Baby’ to celebrate a mistrial in the case of a dead baby held for ransom?
  4. I always had an idea for the end of the show that Hope would rescue Bo, riding in on a motorcycle while ‘Holding out For a Hero’ played. No way would they have the budget for that kind of send-off! I will add that to my fantasy that Cruz and Eden are grandparents living in Paris now, maybe running a luxury-train themed B&B that’s a front for a detective agency.
  5. I remain very involved with this show but totally agree with you at the same time. To me the Tail section is occupied by a lot of middle aged white men, that one older woman with a frizzy gray bob haircut, and the Black woman who helped the electrician cut the wires. I should probably have more ways to distinguish them by this point than that? I couldn't decide how I felt about Melanie just immediately caving and telling Ruth the whole story. if she was going to try and cut a deal or work some angle to her advantage I can't see Melanie trying to do it through Ruth who seems a little spineless, generally. I think that mostly was just to give Alison Wright something of a powerhouse scene. Though I hope this spurs Ruth to be a full-on villain next season - more like the Tilda Swinton character from the movie, but less addled-seeming. So far Ruth is not that different from Martha in The Americans - a duped woman realizing she was lied to. Only difference is Alison Wright uses her real accent here.
  6. My first thought when Layton approached LJ at the end was that LJ already basically knew Melanie and Mr W were one and the same. I remember Melanie and LJ having a fairly coded conversation at the time of LJ's release back into 'society' that made me think LJ knew and Melanie knew that she knew, hence her 11th hour reprieve. But maybe it was something ELSE that LJ had over Melanie and now she has 2 pieces of leverage over her?
  7. All I could think about (besides this show's need to linger a little too long on sex scenes) was that poor doctor and the cabin she would be getting back from them after they were done with it. Talk about bad Airbnb guests!
  8. I tend to agree. I sort of think Mr Wilford is a rank as much as a person, though it benefits the train for everyone to think it is the same continuous person. There was a real MW then Melanie took over the rank and I think she sees Miles as someone who could hold the rank after her. Even if it was a real person (actually him and not Melanie) then rational people would be wondering about succession planning. Who leads after he dies of natural causes? Or maybe they think he is an AI and they actually prefer that to thinking he’s a human.
  9. I still feel like they could be doing more with the Ruth character. I thought when she was scrambling through the binders for the emergency message to read over the intercom she'd find something incriminating about Melanie. Speaking of - I got the sense she is grooming Miles the way the original Mr Wilford might have once groomed her? Although I assume since her morality is a little ambiguous her immediate play with Miles will be to use him as a pawn to keep Layton in line.
  10. Omg I could barely take that scene. I'm not sure the casting for LJ or either of her parents is very on-point. I guess they spent all their star money on Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly. I'll always love Alison Williams though I wish her character was a little quirkier. And Mickey Sumner I think has been pretty compelling. But the rest of the casting, meh. The LJ/Layton scene was kind of amateurishly lurid. That said, I'm into this show, a good combo of a summer and a quarantine show. Maybe Daveed Diggs is in that drawer doing the voce work for Helen on Central Park and when he's done they'll let him out.
  11. I missed it, too. I feel so dumb sometimes when I read recaps. One of them (maybe we read the same one) indicated that it was clear from Helene's dialogue that Dasha had been the target all along. I didn't catch that, I just thought that exchange was meant to show that V didn't love the idea of going back in the field alone so Helene was saying, take Dasha with you then. (In fact the synopsis for the episode says they are 'working together on a kill' or something similar.) They tend to sometimes clarify their intentions in later episodes so maybe you and I will be proven either right or wrong next episode. (I did wonder why Dasha was thrown by the 'character' choices V was improvising as the hotel check-in, like they weren't on the same page.) But watching the episode I def thought the Dasha bit was V's own plan, semi-improvised. Otherwise why let the fake target see and live to tell about it? She could have killed her in the hotel and blamed it on the fake dementia!
  12. I will never understand why K even let Irina go into custody. Your daughter killing someone with no witnesses (or even with them) is even more reason to take her and flee to Cuba! If he cared about her rehabilitation he wouldn't have tried to bribe the doctor to let her walk. So why involve the authorities in the first place?

I sort of thought the gesture was to call attention to the turtleneck she was wearing - Dasha and the glamorous Twelve agent derisively referred to someone wearing a turtleneck ... altho I thought they meant Eve actually since she is kind of frumpy. I didn’t totally get the turtleneck reference actually but did notice V was wearing one in that scene when she arrived ‘Home.’
  14. agree, wasn't the same bear. I guess she evicted herself once she realized V had been there. But...if V can find her there I assume she can find her anywhere. Everyone on this show can find anyone anywhere.
  15. I can't remember - did Dasha (posing as Niko) give the address where he'd be working on the barn door? That wasn't where he was staying, so how would Eve know to take the car to that property?
  16. OK, this satisfies me ... I guess I misinterpreted the spin that Jodie Comer put on the line. Although I would argue that Dasha's kill was still less 'touchable' because she was killing someone she had a connection to whereas V was using the method to kill a stranger!
  17. Co-sign all of this! I think it was significant that Audrey was the one who carried the cake over to Eve when it arrived. I am repeating myself here big time but we've twice now seen Audrey and Eve encounter each other in a women's restroom, the same way that Eve first encountered Villanelle. This is totally insignificant but bugs me: since Dasha's first kill (with the chalk) is so important to the thread this season - I'm still confused about why V said "Untouchable" to herself after she mimicked it with the spice in the spice shop. Was she offering grudging respect for that style kill? (At the time I thought she was being delusional in thinking she herself had thought of it and was paying herself a compliment.)
  18. I don't totally get why they needed to give Carolyn a new house: I like the space but it doesn't seem very Carolyn, or very London. Can someone explain why V shot through the front passenger window if the guy in the backseat (behind the driver) was the target of that kill? Of V's kills this season we've had a spice shop owner and a classical pianist, both Spanish women of around the same age. Not sure if there is any meaning in that? I can't remember if we've always been so blind to why her targets were marked for death? I still say we should keep a skeptical eye on Audrey!
  19. I kind of felt like killing Felix was just a redo of V killing her hospital roommate last season, the one who'd been disfigured in the car crash. I think the writers think of those moments as 'echoes' but to me they always seem like when SNL does a sketch and it hits and then they just sort of redo it over and over by tweaking the details enough for it to be 'different.' And I have to wonder if we can trust that it's the twelve that K is working for - on the one hand he's clearly working for someone but he doesn't seem to have much say in it given the way he complained about the arrangements in the backseat of that car. But the only evidence we have it's the Twelve is him telling V, right? He could have been lying - if he wasn't, it seemed like a sort of lazy throwaway line to keep the Twelve (and him) in the think of things.
  20. Agree this episode was draggy...I kept checking to see how much longer. I am inclined to like Kenny’s former editor and his gruff pairing with Eve, let’s hope that works, chemistry-wise. I like the theory above that Kenny’s female co worker killed him, only because it’s more interesting than her dopey crying in the bathroom. Maybe that bathroom scene with her and Eve then was an echo of Eve and V’s very first interaction in the hospital bathroom in S1.
  21. Trying to decide how I feel about them doing essentially a gentle reset here to some of Season 1's impetus. (Eve witnesses the brutal killing of a beloved male colleague, establishing emotional stakes for her; The Twelve comes back to prominence) I feel like they're tacitly acknowledging they tread some water in S2 that was essentially just putting story off they didn't want to burn through too quickly. For example I said this in another thread but I think the note V's ex girlfriend slipped under the door of her prison cell, addressed to Eve, was originally supposed to be about either The Twelve or Oksana's family, and I feel both will be explored more this season since they weren't much addressed last season. I'm along for the ride but wondering how much Season 2 really mattered, then.
  22. I love this show and am thrilled it's coming back so soon. HOWEVER I will never forgive them for retconning that note for Eve slipped under the prison-cell door in S1 to have been about the Alexander Peele drama. That made zero sense.

  24. This thread doesn't seem to be have been reactivated for S2 speculation. At this point it feels like we might as well speculate about a possible S3. Do we think everything will be resolved (enough) in the next 2 episodes that S3 will only be by public demand (and the cast's interest in making more?) I can't think of any dangling story threads at this point that would demand it from a content perspective. (I have to assume Mary Louise will be in some way defeated by the end of the season - I don't see her having the staying power to send us into a third season.)
