  1. I haven't seen that episode in awhile. Was it improvised or did he write it out beforehand? Speaking of writing speeches, it does remind me of the episode where Ray forgot to thank Debra in a speech. I think it's meant to show Ray's negligence when it comes to Debra more than him not being able to write or improvise a speech.
  2. Yeah I have heard similar things about the lengths the producers go to to stir up drama. However, I would think most people going into it know to expect that at this point and know to some extent what they are getting themselves into. I read that after the contestants are eliminated they get taken to a spa or something but idk for sure if that's true. I would think a lot of people who try out for it are just looking for their 15 minutes or want to meet GR. Real serious chefs go to something like Top Chef or Chopped. I also heard all the diners who eat at HK are paid, some of whom are real people and of course the "celebrity VIPs" they get to show up, others probably actors. And they are told what to say I think when the camera shows them tasting the food. Or at least it's like a scene they deliberately set up to shoot rather than catching their comments on the spur of the moment.
  3. He was a sports writer though. Maybe he could only really write if it was about sports, since that's what he was really interested in. Plus with writing you have time to read it over, edit, sort out your thoughts. I'm not sure those who are good at writing are necessarily good at improvising something on the spot. I know I personally am far better at expressing myself in writing than speaking off the cuff.
  4. I feel like Jackie from this last season HAD to be a producer plant. Basically any of the ones who didn't last long but brought lots of drama (remember crazy puppet lady that only lasted an episode or 2?) No others I can specifically think of off the top of my head but Jackie definitely seemed like one. And yeah a plant is basically someone the producers choose and a lot of times they might not even be real chefs, but actors.
  5. Good. I was hoping the season would end on something a little more climatic than the Brick Hotel episode.
  6. The first season only had 6 episodes and last season only had 8, so it's possible this was the last episode already.
  7. Last night I watched the episode Ally's Birth and while I understand "TV logic" and the fact they didn't want to tip Marie off when the baby was coming, I didn't understand why they made Robert take them to the hospital instead of just calling an ambulance. Perhaps Debra didn't know/expect she was going to (or feel like she was going to) give birth in the car on the way there but like really, how is it at all logical to make someone drive them to the hospital if they thought the baby was on its way right then? Why not call an ambulance if you're so anxious to be able to run lights?
  8. ELR is sort of like "comfort food" for me as well. There is something comforting and familiar about it, maybe because everyone has a bit of a family like the Barones, like obviously not to the extreme extent like on ELR, but everyone's family has a bit of that dysfunctional dynamic. I never viewed it as tragic, more like a lot of it was so over the top ridiculous (Marie would rather throw away a chicken leg than give it to Robert, Marie crashing the car into the house, Marie writing a letter to the FBI about Robert, etc.) that it was funny. I always thought the punchlines were clever and they had a great cast of actors as well, particularly Patricia Heaton, Brad Garrett, and Doris Roberts (RIP). It's kind of one of my "go to" shows right now and I have been working my way through the DVD box set. I'm currently on season 5.
  9. Well since this is now I guess a season 16 anticipation thread I'll share this: I remember when season 15 premiered Hulu had the wrong episode on its service due to some kind of mixup and accidentally had the first episode of season 16 instead of season 15. I got to see it before it was removed and replaced with the right episode. If anyone wants I could spoil what I remember (with spoiler tags of course), but for now I'll just say from what I could tell of that one episode, the show hasn't changed at all and in fact might have even become worse than ever.
  10. That sounds like something that would happen to Ray and Robert lol! Except Robert probably wouldn't have even gotten a toy at all, like maybe Marie bought it for him and then forgot to give it to him like the pair of shoes she forgot about.
  11. The sad thing is even with the diverse amount of contestants, I still can never remember them all. And sometimes they have strange names or nicknames which don't help.
  12. The fat guy is usually also the oldest and dumb or sometimes there's a separate contestant who's the stupid one. Sometimes there's also a "hot girl." I've noticed they recycle these "characters" every season too. It IS TV, so I guess they feel they need to fill all the "roles." Who knows. Personally I would like to see them do away with the stereotypes and just cast decent cooks with only a few crazies thrown in for entertainment. But then when was the last time this show was serious about cooking anyway?
  13. My favorite winner always has been and always will be Dave from season 6. He was a better chef with only 1 arm than most others we've seen on this show with 2. The One Armed Bandit! I always liked Scott as well. There really aren't many I could list as favorites.
  14. But I don't think we saw any footage of her during the rest of the service when the others were still working? Dannie is exactly the type of person who would blame editing for her crappy behavior/attitude. And maybe Ariel is backing her up because they're friends (or maybe they weren't friends, I don't remember)
  15. I was amused by the fact he seemed to think if you don't serve a frozen burger to the customer frozen (as in, they've thawed it first), then it doesn't count as being a frozen burger. SMH For the hotel part I can sort of understand the no kids thing, but what is wrong with letting kids into the restaurant and especially the ice cream parlor? It would make them so much more money. I wonder if Gordon will do a revisited episode like he does on KN and return to some of these places that just reverted back to their old ways after he left.
  16. What amazes me is how they were still running the place. How were they not shut down by the Board of Health?
  17. Nope there was never a follow up on Susan and in fact she was hardly shown at all in the second part of the episode. Speaking of her, I was rewatching the beginning because I had missed the first 5 minutes when it aired and saw the part when Ramsay digs out his little device to measure the cleanliness of the room and the teenage waiter is exasperatingly telling Karan the point Ramsay is trying to make and Sarah goes "You're yelling." I'd have been like "Bitch shut the fuck up, you don't even work here!" Like who is Sarah to go around bossing around the employees? I also got a kick out of the young boys laughing when Ramsay was looking at Sarah's "murals" on the walls of the kitchen. You could tell how overjoyed the employees were at Ramsay seeing the mess and being happy someone finally got it. Like the waitress talking about Karan's "accidents" on the bathroom floor, if I had seen that on my first day on the job, I'd have booked out of there fast. "It smells like there's crap on the floor." "Probably because there's crap on the floor." LMAO!
  18. Yes, sad to hear that she miscarried. :( Season 16 of Hell's Kitchen is slated to premiere Friday, September 23rd in the 8-9 PM timeslot. The first episode was mistakenly premiered by Hulu during last season's premiere (which I saw). http://www.mjsbigblog.com/fox-announces-fall-premiere-dates-including-empire.htm
  19. I've always kind of wondered about how Ramsay expects the owners to implement the changes he's made when they are in debt. For example on his KN show he usually tells them to start making all the food fresh every day and buying fresh ingredients, which can get costly. And for HH I think his team redoes one room and they have to finish the others. How can they do this when they are usually in an insane amount of debt?
  20. It occurred to me that we never heard anything about her son's father. No mention if they were ever married and are now either divorced or he's deceased. I have the feeling there's a lot going on with that situation that the show did not want to delve into or reveal. It's completely possible Karan had to raise her son single handedly, I'm getting the sense whoever the father is wasn't involved in his life, which could be a contributing factor to why Karan has these mental and emotional issues and why she hoards stuff. I hope that I'm wrong but I can't help thinking she might have been the victim of rape or something and why nothing of the father has been mentioned. But something along those lines or an absentee dad would explain a lot IMO.
  21. She did say she hadn't watched a TV in like 20 years though. And also where she slept, it wasn't even a real bed. Perhaps she really is into the Amish lifestyle? (Making an exception for appliances needed for work) Or I think she was just being facetious and saying she likes to live a simple life, not that she actually is Amish, but just likes a simple lifestyle similar to theirs.
  22. Frank pointed out in a later episode "Blabbermouths" that occasionally Marie would use store bought sauce. She probably used store bought or processed ingredients from time to time like everyone does and just never admitted it, hence why there is a log of cookie dough or a box of cake mix in her kitchen. Perhaps she thought if she was in a rush and didn't have time to make it from scratch it would be ok to use just like if she didn't have time to make her own sauce, it was ok to use sauce from a jar.
  23. I agree with Rapunzel. I wish they had kept KN and axed HH instead. Way better show IMO. I was just saying earlier in the GR thread about how the tone of the show seems to have changed this season with the removal of the cheesy theme song which has been replaced by this Criminal Minds looking opening with shots of Gordon in slo mo looking all dramatic and serious. No funny shots of him getting naked in the shower. I agree they seem to be taking the show in a slightly different direction this season. I hope in Part 2 he just walks out and doesn't even bother giving the place a makeover. It's too far gone and beyond repair at this point IMO.
  24. I'm thinking it was probably the owner's son that was seen in the beginning and who bought the inn for her was the one who called Gordon. At first I thought to myself that those 2 17 year old servers could just quit if the place was really that bad, they most likely live at home with their parents and don't necessarily need the job. But then I realized it's possible they do need the money to put towards college or a car or something and as long as they are getting a paycheck, they might not care about sticking around there, if they really need the job that badly. At the end of the day they clock out and go home, with their paycheck. If the owner wants to ruin her own business, that's her problem. Speaking of going home, how creepy is it that the owner legit sleeps in the building? And one of the employees said she wears basically the same 2 outfits all the time. The woman's got some serious issues. Issues with hoarding and never wanting to change things apparently. I had a professor in college who didn't practice basic hygiene at all. He literally wore the same clothes every day, didn't cut or wash his hair, didn't shower, and wore this really gross dirty old baseball hat every day. Smart as a whip in the subject he taught (though that being said he couldn't teach for shit) but how he ever got a job with his lack of basic hygiene is beyond me. People like that have some serious problems.
