  1. She also allows Lane to spend time at Lorelai's even though the GG's eat junk food, and their entertainment choices are not Mrs Kim endorsed. I grew up with my own Mama Kim and in my experience, strict religious parents don't allow their kids to be exposed to things they don't approve of. I wish we got more scenes between Lorelai and Mrs Kim, they played off each other so well. Totally different philosophies yet both loving their daughters more than anything.
  2. Interesting that so many people defend Marty when he purposely needled Logan with that trust fund comment. Seemed like a jerk move to me. I don't like Marty. Period. I should, though. I have been a bartender for 20+ years, and have served rich, frat dudes plenty of times. They leave the best tips, fyi. Marty's sad sack woe is me attitude about money annoys me because we are supposed to feel bad for him. When in reality he got himself into these situations. If he didn't like working for the Life & Death crew, don't take the job (and the huge tips). Don't go to a restaurant with them when you don't like them, and don't have any money. Don't whine to the girl you like because you put yourself in an uncomfortable position.
  3. Haha I did forget. The Thanksgiving episode is one I rarely watch but then remember how good it is. I like the small detail that Lorelai knows all of the Kim relatives by name and greets them. It shows a familiarity between the families.
  4. I didn't really understand her behaviour either. It seemed like she was realizing that she wasn't 25 any more and was balking at the idea of being middle aged. That's fine. Most people in their forties or fifties have had those thoughts. The Wild trip made no sense to me. As did the reason she and Luke weren't married was because she didn't do things the Emily way. Except she was gung ho in season 6 to seal the deal. As a Lorelai fan, her plotlines left me confused. (It's probably why I enjoyed Rory's story more.) Only her scenes with Rory and Emily felt right.
  5. Logan also knew Richard and Emily prior to dating Rory so he probably knew about Richard's affinity for cigars. I think a bottle of wine is the least you can bring when going to someone's home for a meal. I can't imagine showing up empty handed (and the Gilmore world is a foreign concept to me, so it's not about money). Chilton years Rory is very nice. It is possible she sent the Harvard alumnus guy a thank you note. I do agree that Lorelai should have taught Rory it is polite to bring something to a dinner. She does bring flowers and cranberry sauce to the Kim's thanksgiving so she's not completely without manners.
  6. Junie, here is a link though it doesn't seem to be formatted very well. http://www.springfieldspringfield.co.uk/view_episode_scripts.php?tv-show=gilmore-girls-a-year-in-the-life-2016&episode=s01e01
  7. Yes to more Lorelai and Lane. They only shared one scene (not counting the scenes where Lane was a glorified extra). I would have liked more between them, but I'm completely biased as they are my 2 favourite characters and I love scenes in the series when they are together. The cast and media made a big deal about the language/voice of the show being back with Amy's writing. (It's understandable with the cast, she created the show and their characters.) Most of that is the witty pop culture banter that was missing in season 7. Yet that year had lots of characters telling us how they were feeling about something. I guess she's not big on characters expressing feelings, unless they are yelling at each other. I agree though I assumed a wedding was going to happen to appease their fans. They seem like friends who are living together, and it makes me sad yet Lorelai was acting happy. Basically if she's happy being in a settled, middle aged relationship then good for her. I want Lorelai to be happy. I just wanted more for her. God yes that musical needs to die. I was talking to a friend who also loves the show and she told me the entire musical plot was nearly 20 minutes. Twenty minutes! No wonder if felt neverending. Maybe they are still on spring break. ;) I would have loved to see those characters at 32.
  8. Logan is good at talking his way out of things. He did it first when he invited her to the poker game, and then again over the bridesmaids debacle. He outwits Rory with his convoluted logic and she agrees with him. I thought Rory calling Logan in the revival was to show that they had an intimacy that went beyond the bedroom. She's confiding in him about work and her fight with Lorelai. We don't see her do any of that with the invisible Paul. Maybe that's a generous reading of it, as I like their relationship in the revival.
  9. I agree so much with your post. I think the key to understanding Luke's behaviour is that he treats Rory like she's still a little girl to be protected. Luke doesn't treat her like a grown, sexually active young woman. Even though he knew about her affair/relationship with Dean in season 5. I think he was way out of line in both instances (and the Dean bop-it fight too). I find that kind of behavior from men insulting, and don't like the message it sends. I always thought it was telling that Chris and Luke were really fighting about Lorelai but used the situation with Rory because they both know how important Rory is. I'm always on Christopher's side even though he's drunk and out of line because I've seen more than my share of boyfriends who think they can dictate how a father is with their children. It always bugs me. They were really laying the foundation of Lor and Chris 2.0 with Rory and Logan from the get go. Alexis/Rory looks so adorable in her outfit.
  10. Yes to both! I am glad we got little snippets of Lane's life and that she seems happy. But! If they had eliminated that whole musical plot, there would have been time for Lane and other characters. I thought the same thing, especially considering how similar the actresses look. Would have been better, imo. I liked the Dean cameo too. We found out he's a happy family man living away from Stars Hollow. It was a good ending for the character compared to what we were left with in season 5. I'm glad that he and Rory are on good terms and that she stays in contact with him. Personally, I would slash that musical into oblivion and see more townies. I also didn't like the surrogate plot. It seemed pointless, and was there just to create conflict. I don't have a problem with Paul and Odette. It's messy but that's realistic. I would have liked to expand the Chilton plot with Rory and Paris, that subplot was very enjoyable.
  11. That reminds me of this: (sorry I don't know how to embed images here) http://m.imgur.com/sXqkNP9 It's an interesting article, and I agree with some points. I don't agree that Richard and Emily weren't in love though. If they were just partners who supported each other, the jealousy on both sides wouldn't have existed.
  12. That sums up why I like both Logan and Chris. It took me a long time to like Logan, mainly because I didn't like him for Rory in season 5. But I did like their relationship in the revival. Go figure. I kinda wanted Rory to through back in Lorelai's face, 'what about the guy you could never quit' when Lorelai was casting shade on Rory's dalliance with Logan. But Rory is a lot classier than me.
  13. I think the proposal was Logan's way of being old fashioned and making a grand gesture. If Rory's answer had been yes, it would have been a perfect moment. Proposing in front of her family (getting Lorelai's blessing, not giving a whiff what his parents thought) and they are whisked away in a carriage. I think he wasn't thinking logically and was swept up in the romance of it all. He obviously didn't consider how taken aback Rory would be, or that her answer would be no.
  14. I like him a lot too. He's the only one of Lorelai's guys that I really care what happens to him in his life, separate from her. I do love their relationship however. I didn't care for how they used him in season 6 and 7, it was all about contrasting him with Luke. He deserved better.

    Season 1

Another Lane fan! Welcome :) Lorelai will always be my favourite though there are times she makes me want to scream. Lane has been my second favourite since I watched many moons ago and it remains to this day. Of all the kids on this show, she's the one that is easiest for me to relate to.
  16. Yeah, it could be about the time she was writing the profile on Naomi that was in the New Yorker. 7 hours plane ride sounds like she was out of the country. Maybe somewhere in Europe. I'm willing to give Rory the benefit of the doubt and that she really was working in London. I don't think Logan was the only reason for her to go back there. He mentioned in Winter seeing Rory in Barcelona, maybe that's when it started up again? There's no real timeline given so we don't know how long it has been going on. Their conversation about seeing another woman's things in the apartment makes it seem recent. Though that could be just added in to tell the audience of their arrangement. I can believe Rory would get into a casual relationship with him while she is grieving for Richard. She did say in Winter that she was struggling, and had tried things to keep her calm. Only the tapdancing worked. It seems career related, but when Lorelai mentions her issues, Rory brings up Richard, so he must be a factor for her too. Yeah. I know someone who is a member and she told me it's mostly charity work and researching genealogy. Quite different than it is portrayed here. I've known some well to do folks and most of them curse a blue streak because they just don't care.
  17. It made Sandee look very unprofessional. I can't imagine reaching out to someone multiple times, and then when they finally submit, expect them to convince me to hire them. Um, what? Imagine working for someone who likes playing mind games with their staff. Yeesh! Rory should write an expose on that in her book. Changing the names but making it obvious who she was talking about. I watch The Affair, and while Sandee is a different character here, she also made me annoyed with her behaviour (just like on The Affair lol). So much of Rory's story feels continued from season 6. Her struggles with career and love life feel like something an early to mid-twenties young woman would go through. Maybe that whole subplot was to show how Rory wasn't fitting in with journalists anymore. The joke about the NYT and them being old seemed like a dig at Rory's aspirations (although Sandee didn't know it). After her blow up with Sandee she basically gives up and comes home to Lorelai. The discussion here about the interview is leading me to think that Rory was more on the edge than I thought. Certainly it was disrespectful how Sandee dealt with her, but yelling over the phone and destroying 3 phones, and then moving home shows she wasn't as calm as she was pretending.
  18. I just saw the trailer! Interesting that she would play OfGlen. The story is even more relevant now than in the 80's when it was written.
  19. I liked that part too. That entire hotel scene is one I've watched repeatedly due to enjoying it so much. Rory's freakout, how certain she is that Lorelai knows about Logan, Lorelai's pep talk, and teasing Rory about the Wookiee. Even when Rory is keeping things from her mom, she has a sense that Lorelai knows due to their long closeness.
  20. Thanks to you and Lady Calypso for the information. I am closer in age to Lorelai, and the idea of researching a company pre-internet sounded odd to me. I suppose it's expected now in our world that has social media accounts for every business or organization. It makes the most sense for people in a journalistic field. I'm a small business owner and have hired many people over the years and never expected someone to ask me questions or know much about my business. This is illuminating. So I guess Sandee's line of telling Rory to sell her in the interview is a common tactic. It felt like it came out of nowhere, and maybe that's why Rory floundered. She likes to be prepared and clearly wasn't. I wonder if Sandee does that to all writers because it makes her look like she's on a power trip.
  21. Is there any evidence that the funeral was right after Richard died? Lorelai said his death was sudden, the funeral/wake could have been done later to give Emily time to plan things. I don't have a problem with Rory leaving after the funeral. Unfortunately, the world and deadlines don't stop just because someone passes away. I have wondered when Logan and Rory started things up again, and if Richard's death was a factor. It's very vague.
  22. Is that for media related jobs? I never heard of that. Rory could have done some research but as a viewer, I thought Sandee was basically begging Rory to work for her. When Rory was led into an interview and told to sell her brand, I was surprised so Rory's confusion made sense. I am dismayed by the Rory criticism, it seems people wanted her to regress into the teenage girl she was. We all saw Yale era Rory and who she had become.
  23. Well, we are seeing things from Lorelai and Rory's perspective. Even when certain characters have real world flaws, I tend to side with them if they are the protagonist(s). It's their story. I love House of Cards and the protagonist on that show is a real bastard, but I still cheer him on. That's a good point about Dean. (Although Rory was pretty clear that she thought he was a great guy even when she was dating Jess.) It makes you think. Every love interest for the girls falls under this a bit. That would explain the criticism the show gets for making one guy look good, so the other has to be screwing up.
  24. The more I think about it, the more it feels like an AU.
  25. Spotify has a official Gilmore girls playlist. It doesn't have every song ever played on the show but it has a nice selection. https://open.spotify.com/user/warnerbros.tv/playlist/23q7tJ9isv1dKpqs5FcFNy This playlist is more extensive. https://open.spotify.com/user/lisa_anthem/playlist/3cf0DNKvQ9hbdDAzkpjsgm I used to think they would have included a music list like they did with pop culture references in the dvd set. Anyway, this site gives a detailed list that goes by season and episode. http://www.what-song.com/Tvshow/75/Gilmore-Girls
