Paul & Karine: These Condoms Ain't For Sexin'
mamadrama replied to Drogo's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
When they cast Paul they also knew about his previous crimes against women. But this is the same network that covered up the Duggar sexual molestation stuff for years. Not to mention the Kate Goesselin bullshit. The only way to get these people off air is to hit them where it hurts-their advertisers. Write the advertisers and tell them you refuse to watch with X in the cast and the network will sing a different tune. -

The good thing is that since KY took Medicaid Expansion even with a slightly higher than average income she, and many women, now qualify for Medicaid. We have a lot of excellent programs that can help in these situations, including bilingual family counseling, parenting classes, the HANDS program, etc. There are people out there who can help. -
Paul & Karine: These Condoms Ain't For Sexin'
mamadrama replied to Drogo's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
No, it's not. This is a Paul thing. One STI test is given at the first prenatal visit. Further tests are not part of general prenatal care here. Medicaid will not pay for further testing unless she's showing acute signs of disease. Making her submit to at-home STD tests is just another way to shame and manipulate. And because she's not familiar with prenatal care, or healthcare in general, in the US there was no real way for her to know what was "normal" and what wasn't. -
Paul & Karine: These Condoms Ain't For Sexin'

I saw the live stream as it was happening. I'm a former Crisis Intervention Specialist in the same state and I sit on the board of a domestic violence shelter 2 counties away from P & K. The services also come with an advocate. So at the very least she would have safe housing, if desired, and someone who can help guide her through the American healthcare system. This was all very, very bad. -
And I'm sure she dragged a kicking and screaming Ari into her nice hotel room with toilet seat and shower.

Kalani & Asuelu: Cheeto Dust and Slut People

I've got more through private messages. I'm trying to figure out what parts to black out do that it's not so obvious where (who) they came from. This person's chatty and almost every sentence says something identifiable. I don't want them to get in trouble. -

And dude WAS buying them canned corn beef so I guess my expectations shouldn't have been so high. -
Brittany and Yazan: Cry Me a River Jordan
mamadrama replied to Christina's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
Me neither! I was also mesmerized by it and couldn't look away. But I can't twerk at all. I seriously look like I'm going into epileptic convulsions when I try. Every part of me moves except for my ass... -
And in a lot of her stuff she's trying to brand herself as this boho traveler, yet her pictures are of the Sheraton and Hilton resorts. She reminds me of this woman named Cassie on Naked and Afraid. She claimed to have lived in the jungle, to be a badass survivalist, and to have done all this solo traveling but it was later revealed that she was basically a sugar baby and rich men were paying her to travel around on their private jets.

Kalani & Asuelu: Cheeto Dust and Slut People
mamadrama replied to Drogo's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
What I have learned through a combination of the comments and posts on Aseulu's IG and through talk with my one set of cast member friends who don't mind spilling the tea... I'll try to add screenshots to this later: Aseulu has been earning a regular salary for his choreography work with the park for more than 2 years. He earns decent money. The yogurt thing was just show shenanigans, even though he occasionally works there as well. They are not broke and he works long hours. They pay the house bills, not her family. Also, her family doesn't live there full time. Long before he met Kalani, his mother and several other family members lived in Utah. He still has family and friends there, hence the big reason for their move. They were never paying for the trip to Samoa, the production company was. Production is also paying for the other cast members to return home. It all started with Syngin and then went from there. He had visited Utah before meeting Kalani. The whole thing about him believing everyone in the US was rich is bogus. He'd been there before. Him leaving on the bus and getting angry wasn't because of his argument with Kalani, it was due to a fight with production. Kalani's story about driving around and looking for him was fake. Her family supported him leaving the filming site. I'm no longer even totally sure he spent the night away. Once production wrapped up I'm pretty sure he returned. This is one of the reasons that part wasn't referenced in his convo with Lo. Whatever they show about the upcoming Washington trip, they actually had a good time. They spent almost 2 weeks, it was a pre-planned trip for his dance group, and they did a lot of hiking and family things around Oregon, too. The money referenced was for filming. He's been choreographing and performing in the Zion Park's Polynesian show since last summer, but he's been employed by them longer than that: https://www.instagram.com/p/By_-DAhBD9I/?igshid=jxsxbdm69ue2 Like a lot of cast members they bring in extra income by doing special appearances around the country. They've been paid to do events in NYC, Washington, California... here's one in Vegas: https://www.instagram.com/p/BuhGQrPBuXA/?igshid=1jb5nqinzhbku And an event in Washington state: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bw5XXgXBFV2/?igshid=w5tzs5qm4xx9 And in LA: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bt-Ae_0hcAR/?igshid=wjdvclwdlh72 Pretty sure Oliver's birthday trip coincided with a paid event: https://www.instagram.com/p/B7xsX47BS9U/?igshid=1lf5jfubcud3j In addition to the park, he also belongs to a traditional dance group that performs for special events. He teaches classes every week at the community college: https://www.instagram.com/p/BvcOehdhtUh/?igshid=1hhxj4mycbu9u They did a return trip to Samoa in 2019 and the lodging was covered by their resort. https://www.instagram.com/p/BscZVNdB9Zy/?igshid=dt7ez4pv0f6r So this whole thing about how he needs to get a real job and how Kalani should contribute financially if they're so broke? Not necessary. IMO they're doing the show to build up their social media (he's pretty active on Tik Tok) where he is pushing his dancing and cooking. It still makes me side eye them, though. Knowing that they continue to film even though he's looking like a slacking asshole just makes me think they kinda deserve the feedback. -
S05.E07: The Best Mistake Of My Life
mamadrama replied to OnceSane's topic in 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After
I just did a deep dive through Aseulu's social media and I am really frustrated. The only thing real life and this season have in common is that their names are Kalani and Aseulu. I'm going to try to collect all the big things and put them in the couple's thread. I'm not real sure how to proceed further with the season, though. I now think all of it, from the Moldovan drama to Jess' insatiable drive for Colt, is fake. The only thing I believe is that Karine really is having trouble setting in and Eric-ee is probably a serious asshole. -
I would love it if the show would go into things like this. They seem to think family drama and money issues are the only things the cross cultural couples face, but it's the little stuff that I find the most interesting. 19 years old and spending the summer in the resort town of Bregenz, Austria. Zero German language skills. I was too embarrassed to pronounce things on the menu or to ask questions. After two days of not eating, I realized I couldn't fast for 3 months so I gathered my nerve and went into a bakery. And there it was: the biggest, gooiest, most beautiful chocolate donut I'd ever seen. Unfortunately, it was nestled in amongst a cradle of other things. So I start pointing and using hand gestures. (And, yes, Pole's gesture for marriage may have been one...) Finally, 5 minutes later, the exasperated woman looks down at me and says, very plainly, "Donut?" Because it's the same in a lot of languages. Doh. Where are these "fish out of water" tales? Because they're the fun ones. The expats just trying to get through the day... My husband's a marathon runner. During his second week in the US he went for a run around our rural home. He was doing 10 miles so I expected him to be gone awhile. After an hour, though, he was back. When I asked if he was okay he said, "Four different farmers stopped and asked if I was okay and needed a ride. By the fifth I finally just gave in." There are stories in these people. Too bad TLC doesn't trust us to hear them.

I'm thinking back to when I moved abroad...At no point did I expect my mother to come and give her approval. Of course, when I moved abroad I had my own money saved up and I rented a place myself. I didn't leave that all up to my baby daddy (who I barely knew). I know Ari and Deavan are expats and it can be hard manuevering the logistics but I have trouble wrapping my head around the idea of my livelihood being at someone else's mercy. This forum is basically the only reason I still watch this franchise. I'd quit, but then I'd be left out of the conversation. I've tried other places, but it's just not the same. For instance @Angry MoldovanMOLDOVANMOLDOVANa and I just spent the evening fighting a troll on Twitter whose best comeback was pointing out my fivehead. At least here we get wit! (I swear the repeat of her name is a site mistake and not mine. Every time I backspace it writes "Moldovan" twice. Maybe the Karen Coven was right and the Moldovans ARE scary people!)

Or even if they'd been going to Samoa. When my in-laws visit from England I want Galaxy bars and Twinings. Not t-shirts that say "Mamadrama's State." -

Tim and Melyza: Too Boring For a Subtitle
mamadrama replied to Christina's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
On the one hand I appreciate this couple because they were an actual couple, not just another "we met on Foreign Cupid and she may really be a man" kinda couple. On the other hand...yawn. she's just in it for the cat. -
Thank you. Between the strokes, heart attacks and my son's cancer this past year I'm afraid people are going to forget about me. I haven't written at all. But I DO have an idea for a new horror novel: woman from 3rd world country marries a greasy toad, only to reach the US to find there is a shortage of toilet paper and she can't return home because of the travel ban. I'm thinking of calling it "Mmmmmmm, May I Halik You: A 90 Day Pandemic Love Story."

Until my own novels took off and started bringing in more income than my freelancing, I supported my family of 4 on that money. We weren't rich, but we did very well-and this was during the recession. I was a ghost writer for true crime and health books, but I also did web content, blogging, white papers, etc. Most people think of magazine articles and ghostwriting NYT bestselling celebrity cook books when they hear "freelance writer", but the majority of us who earned a living from it didn't have projects that exciting. I usually had around 5 big-budget projects a year. They were PLRs or ebooks that the client wanted written as a freebie or funnel. These ranged from $3,500 to $8,000. But I also got a ton of little $100-500 projects that filled in the gaps. Most people just wanted website content. The pay was low, but I could often get those jobs done in just a few days. One year I was the ghost writer for this woman who ran a Wiccan company. I posted one "Wiccan centered" blog post per week. Took all of an hour to write them, and they covered my car payments. Most of my clients came through Elance (now Upwork). The cost of living is low here, but if Ari didn't have housing costs I think she could have been supporting herself. If she was committed I think she could do it in Ethiopia, too. She would probably earn more than Usman 2.0 with his dancing and rap career.

IF Kenny's really doing this and he's not amping up the theatrics then I'd be very disappointed in him. However, I'm having trouble believing it's 💯 real. For starters, they're already making their new village seem like Santa Ana's last stand. Like it's out in the middle of nowhere, the only restaurants tiny holes in the wall with questionable hygiene practices. It's not. It's a pretty built-up area. A lot more than the handful of little shacks that serve as businesses that they keep showing us. And while Kenny may have been out for 40 years, I highly doubt he can't remember what it was like. Homophobia is not a long ago memory for our country. Doesn't he live in Orlando? As in where the gay club tragedy unfolded not too long ago? And if he and Armando have been talking for years there's no way he doesn't know or understand the cultural ramifications that can come with being in Mexico. I live in a VERY small town in the mountains and things are pretty closed minded. I would say, by and large, my community is VERY anti-immigration. Not just illegal immigration, but immigrants in general. It's also not a place where people casually date same sex partners. Frankly, it sucks. However, our town's most popular restaurant is a Mexican place owned by gay, illegal immigrants. They came up from their small town our way out of fear for their lives. Despite how backwards my town can be, these men are beloved and I'd say anyone here would stand up and defend them*. If MY town can understand the fear that drove this couple to break away then there's no way Kenny doesn't. I hope this is just the men and TLC thinking, "We need to show the audience how difficult it is to be gay here... pretend to argue over PDAs do people will get it." TL/DR: I don't believe Kenny's that ignorant; I think Sharp is encouraging these things so that the men can have on-camera conversations to give the audience an idea of the various challenges they face. Or to give us the anti-Ericaphanie couple. * More than 3 dozen people here wrote letters on behalf of the guys when they applied for citizenship.

It's aggravating me. And what's frustrating is that people are going to think it's legit and start harassing Kenny for his attitude. No way would I agree to go along with it. People are nuts.

I wasn't even totally sure they meant American money. Or money at all. They just said "1,000." Maybe they meant pumpkin seeds! 😀 -
I call editing shenanigans. There have been other scenes where Mother Jihoon has gushed over him. I think I'm understanding why Melyza agreed to see Tim after his infidelity...she wanted her cat back.
-
Why not? Dude LOOKS 25... To be fair, we have no idea WHAT Kenny was listening to. TLC dubs over whatever the person is playing because they don't have the licensing for what's on the radio/CD player. When people on reality shows want some privacy they start singing because the show won't be able to air that footage.

As a child of a hoarder it's helped me a lot. I honestly had no idea other people lived like that. Several of the show therapists help out in our support group and have provided me, personally, with a lot of assistance over the year. Dr Suzanne is one of the only doctors out there who's focusing their research on CoHs and I've participated in her studies. I'll admit that not many on the show appear "helped" but addicts don't usually clear up after a single weekend, either. It's a lot of ongoing care and therapy, and many of the people are already at the end of their lives. It's taken my mom 13 years of therapy to get to where she could downsize even a little.

I think so, too. And I think Aladdin is too much of a gentleman to say more.
