90DF Live Chat 2: This Thread is Only 60% Good
mamadrama replied to OnceSane's topic in 90 Day Fiancé
The one I hate the most is whichever one is currently on my screen. -
In the new preview Lisa goes from "so happy we're getting married" to "you're talking to other women and I won't marry you" in 10 seconds flat.

I don't think the girls were dancing or acting provocatively in any age inappropriate way. I volunteer as a chaperone for school dances at our middle and high school and her movements were pretty on par with what I've seen there. When I was 15 I was getting down with Ginuine's "Pony" and shaking my ass like the drunk girls dancing in Daytona on MTV's Spring Break. I lived in crop tops. I think Darcey's girls are cute and silly. The difference is that we danced and dressed like that in a controlled environment: school, hometown, vacation with family. Darcey's girls, however, are doing the equivalent of getting down on the presidential inauguration stage. That's where I draw the line. At the very least they're opening themselves up to criticism and judgment. On the darker side...well. You guys know. I can't judge Darcey for letting her kids have public social media pages. My kids have been appearing in public videos and interviews since they were babies. They have a bigger fanbase than me. While it might look like I let them do what they want, though, I don't. Every picture and video and live stream of them is heavily controlled by either my husband or myself. We have rules and boundaries. It's all very orchestrated. Darcey sexualizing her girls in a public way and allowing them to publicly act in a way that could be conveyed as sexual (I don't think so, but others do) is totally irresponsible-especially for a woman who knows what social media and gossip zines can do. Why rock the boat and invite that shit in? IMO she's already started sharing her body dysmorphia with them, too. Then again, this is the same woman who allows her kids to "take care" of her, uses overt sexuality (and nothing else) to communicate with men, and acts like an engagement is an actual career goal.

(Just wanted to jump in here to recommend the newish French film PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE. It's amazing.) And now back to our regularly scheduled snarking... -
Geoffrey and Varya: Russian Roulette
mamadrama replied to OnceSane's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
I don't know that I believe that. The bruise on his face is identical to the one he got last summer. If this WAS filmed over a year ago, though, then he was definitely still married. -
Avery and Ash: The Pothead and The Pickup Artist
mamadrama replied to OnceSane's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
Yeah, this is kind of off topic and way outside of the point I was making so I'm not sure how to respond to this without turning it into a lecture on linguistics... In regards to some non-native English speakers speaking better than Americans...well, yeah. When you're taught ESL you're learning English via the rules of diction and grammar. You're learning via the "rules" of the language without any of those pesky bad habits that can be picked up when you learn via engagement. When you grow up with a language you're subjected to dialect, geographical differences in pronunciation, accents, slang, and even a variation in cadence. This is how we can all live in this country and speak the same language, yet not sound identical to each other. In the early years we learn our language by mimicking those around us, which is significantly different than learning via a classroom setting. -
S04.E13: The Pleasure Principle
mamadrama replied to OnceSane's topic in 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days
Necks to nothing! 😉 At first I was upset with Varya (ha ha, like any of this personally affects me) for texting and begging after Geoffrey. But then it struck me that lots of abusers are like this- they fuck with your head so much that you literally feel like YOU have wronged THEM. That transference of guilt is scary. I'm glad Varya is on the other side of the globe. -
This is super petty but I HATE the way she smugly purses her lips and raises her eyebrows to make a point. She mostly does it in her talking heads.

I don't know these women and I feel personally offended by this victim blaming. -
David and Lana: The Seven-Year Ditch
mamadrama replied to OnceSane's topic in The Couples (Spoilers)
Yeah, that's what I was told. That he'd been speaking to several women and really only zeroed in on Lana around the time of filming. Take that with a grain of salt, of course. Did any of you watch the YouTuber who signed up for an Anastasia Date account this week and chatted (including video) with Lana? Good stuff. She was offering sexy pics and videos from the first message. -
I wish Ananda Lewis could host. When the greasy rat-faced teen boy started carrying on during the UNEXPECTED reunion and telling her to "get off my show" shit just about went DOWN. She didn't let anyone get out of line. I didn't even watch the show, just the Tell All, and it was great.

He doesn't have to know-he just assumes. -
I have trouble figuring him out, too. He seems smart enough to realize that she could hurt his Nigerian popularity, and that he couldn't possibly keep his stage name in the US. And surely there are better sugar mamas. Molly is prettier and closer to an R&B hub (Atlanta).

Visions went through my head that will undoubtedly leave scars... and from Usman's morning after face, he totally understands.

Trigger Warning: BGL & Sex I'm sorry to go there, but this has been bugging me for weeks... So her friend is all like, "What if the sex is bad?" And BGL is, "Oh, I gotta secret weapon." And the weapon is condom-less sex? That doesn't even make sense. If you're not sexually compatible, you don't listen to what your partner wants or needs, or one of you just sucks in bed (been there on the receiving end) then sliding that rubber off isn't going to make a lick (hee hee) of difference: unsafe sex is not automatically mind-blowing. You can have plenty of bad sex without a condom. Then again, this IS the woman who thought Americans invented oral sex, so...

So WHY is TLC making the Tell All so boring and Shaun so dumb? Now that we've seen what can, and probably does, happen why hold so much of it back? It can't be because they're afraid of angering the "talent", because for every basket case who storms off the show there are at least half a dozen crazier people waiting in the wings to take their place. Surely this would only help viewership? It might also help quell questions of authenticity. I'll admit, I kinda thought Dave was a plant. At the very least I thought he might be acting some things up. After watching the leaked footage, I think he's even nuttier than he appeared on the show-and probably legit.

If we're talking mobile homes, I'd rather live with Larry. -
I originally thought the wall o text was a summary of the whole thing so I posted it (before I read it all) in the spoiler thread. Then I realized it was just about one couple (Usman and Lisa? I can't remember now) and I moved it. When I realized that You Tube was removing the leaked video pretty quickly I gave a whole recap a shot. I still missed a lot. Some things were just funnier to watch and there's no real way to capture David's stupidity in mere words.
-
I copied and pasted the wall of text that is under David's thread, not the one under the spoilers. That's a recap I did for another platform and I just shared it here, too.

I agree, it's weird. While we were waiting for my then fiance's visa to come through there was a short period where I had to live alone with our son in the US and he had to be in England. We'd lived together in the UK for two years by that time and had a six weeks old kid, so our relationship wasn't just an online one. At NO time did it ever occur to us for him to follow my schedule in the US. I know all couples work differently but that's just weird. Like they're forcing something that isn't there.
-
That's all really interesting to me. My mom comes from a family of 13 and not a one of her sisters remarried after being widowed. Neither did my grandmother. It's not so much that we're one-man women, we seem to be one-marriage women. My husband tells people that when he dies (he prefers to believe that he's going first) he just assumes that I'll move in with my BFF and have a non-sexual partnership for the rest of my life.

I don't think he was only there for sex. He could've done that off camera. I think he was mostly there for aspirations of fame. For what he did I consider him a famewhore/ sex tourist hybrid. -

English is the official language of Nigeria and Mauritius in a strictly colonial sense. Usman is Hausa and his mother does not speak English, and his siblings only partially do. They speak Hausan, as it appeared others in his town did. Many of these African countries have "English" listed as their official language, but that's what happens with colonialism. It doesn't mean that everyone there speaks English. "Native"and "official" don't have the same meaning and some people are very sensitive about that. -
Ed and Rosemarie: The Long and the Short of It

No. You may have to buy ear bleach, though. She talks so slowly with so much meandering and yammering that I have wanted to poke my ears out listening to her.
