Murdoch Mysteries - General Discussion

Ms Hart didn't realize who she was framing and did her best to backtrack it. I'm sympathetic to the position she found herself in. She knows as a black woman no one is going to help her without wanting something back. Her options are either sit back and watch someone else take the job she's qualified for or do one thing that gets her where she deserves to be. It's a tough call. She did what she could to make it right. If she's a murderer? That's a different ball of wax. Really hope we don't get a replay of man in love with Julia wanting to take her away from William. That's been played out. I still don't like Effie. She has no respect for George's boundaries and it's not going to get better. Don't like them together at all. Other than that, I enjoyed this two-parter. Glad we didn't end the season on a cliffhanger and no one of the regular cast died. And go John! Act your little heart out! -
Watched this episode after not seeing the show for over a year and thought, "wow, they listened to us wanting to know more about the trial and less about the personal trials and tribulations of the TAC team". Didn't even click it was season 1. I don't remember it. I really enjoyed the episode though. Is it worth trying to catch up on this season?

Actually got to watch this on Netflix this week and introduce my dad to the show. He's a former Fox News watcher (thank god we got him weened off!) so I wasn't sure how he'd take it but he's diabetic and my mom was on insulin for decades (until she got so sick she stopped eating for a while and dropped a bunch of weight, which allowed her body sugars to stabilize enough to get off and just use pills to control her diabetes) so this topic hit close to home. Thank God we live in Canada. It's ridiculous what is going on and I'm glad he highlighted it.

I was surprised to revisit some of these cases and I did like that these characters are all still out there at the end. And seriously Higgins, just acknowledge that you have no idea about commerce and hold onto the shares already! Not bad for a clip show. Not bad at all. -
Thanks for this link. It reminded me why I like this series so much.

I've followed Stargate SG1 but it's not showing up on my homepage. Turns out none of the Stargates are in the A-Z listing, which is probably why it's not showing up on my homepage. Can you fix this?

I don't have Netflix so I only get to watch what gets put up on YouTube. I loved the segment about China. I wish he had mentioned how China's one child policy screwed them because most families chose to have a boy, meaning that there is a huge gender difference for college-age people. This makes sexual assault even more of a pressing concern because women are seen as scarce commodities. This is also why the government are pressing women to get married and have large families. Conversely, I think that's why the #metoo movement is gaining traction there. The Chinese government can't afford to have these women choosing to opt out from society. There were great jokes throughout the segment, especially the opening section that talked about Saudi Arabia. Overall, it's continuing it's strong debut. Can't wait to see what's next.

I actually came to appreciate Louise a bit in this one. She certainly has a point about how she would be perceived differently as a man is a good one, as was the observation about not being responsible for how men feel about her. I especially appreciated how she didn't immediately spread the truth about George being the writer but instead gave William and Julia a chance to make it right with George before she spilled the beans. I do take the point about being sensational overriding solid journalism. My roommate and I were watching together and noted how the entire episode was very much about 2019 concerns. It's also always nice to see Oliver Dennis on my screen. As well as Paul Bates. -
Sadly, I don't have the time. And I don't need to bring back the Vala rage. That was the driving force behind that piece, showing why it was a dumb idea to make her part of the team. Bringing back my ship was the other part of that but there was a lot that needed to happen. It would be a very long story. Might try that with Lifeboat though. See if that second chapter comes to me.

Came to commiserate about Carmen. Damn, he was good as Jacob. Really wish they hadn't killed him off. The show was really bad with killing off beloved characters in later seasons.

With everything now one thread some of this discussion is really disjointed. But I loved having a single thread for Stargate SG1 at TWoP, it allowed for more interaction. We can play games like naming your favourite quotes or post pics of your favourite moments. As for this episode, I really hated it. It all felt recycled to me. Brackenreid off to find himself AGAIN. I didn't even get why Margaret is so mad at first, since it's obvious that Thomas chose her, but on thinking on it further I guess I can squint and say it's because he took off and didn't tell her why, or about this previous romance. I really feel for the kid. He's stuck in the middle and can't do anything about it. He wants his dad to fight for Margaret but come on, you've grown up with her! You know with her it's her way or no way. If she's decided, nothing is going to change her mind. As for the mystery, cute enough. I did love the line. "I'm a detective. I detected." George getting to play a rich collector was fun and we got to see him come up with and use a strategy that actually works., which is rare. The rest was meh. -
We're back to a single thread! Whoo hoo! Happy X-days, everyone? I finally got data off my old laptop's hard drive and found two DanJan stories in progress. One I had been looking for in my notes, based on Lifeboat. The other is an AU where camo-Janet ends up in this universe and Unending never happens. I even have a file from a discussion on TWoP about it. Thinking I just post the first one. While it was intended to go on longer, it can work as an episode stand alone. I can always add chapters later. But the second? Intriguing idea. Just not sure if I can get back into that mindset.

The show lost its heart when they killed her off. The kicker was that they didn't need to. Don Davis actually went to the producers and asked them to kill off Hammond instead since he was going to leave anyway. But no, had to nip Dan/Jan in the bud...

Oh @Idiotboy. Never change.

Why, Michael Shanks? Why does the character need a fuzz face? Michael Shanks talks about Unspeakable

Frankie Drake Mysteries - General Discussion

Always a good day when I see my friend Raoul Bhaneja on the screen! He posted a bunch of pics of him with the women on his facebook and talked about how great it was to work on a women-led series. I also hang with magicians and have even worked with one so this episode was an absolute delight. The mansion is obviously modelled after The Magic Castle, a place that is legendary in magic circles. I want to see this show renewed but please, for the love of god, stop trying to make Greyson and Frankie work! I'm still shipping him and Flo - she'd lighten him right up. Frankie and the magician, now there's a spark. Not a flame, but a definite step up from the dreariness that is Greyson and Frankie together. And bring back Huey for Mary - they were delightful together. I looked her up after the baseball episode. What a character she was. That's a bio-pic waiting to happen. -

Amazing how far Thomas has come from the first season, where he was a typical orangeman. Although I hate this trope, a character finding out they had a child they never knew about. Great acting, yes, and I know it's been many seasons but come on, really? You had to go there? -

I am so here for Flo and Greyson! Love the twist with Camille at the end. Also loved Greyson being brought in on the sting. My roommate fully expects Camille to return next season to hang with Nora. -

Halfway through the episode I said to my roommate, "bet it's one of the daughters". Having said that, I really liked this episode. Nice balance of comedy and drama in this episode and the ending was heart-wrenching. And as a bonus, I saw Chris Gibbs as the reporter. Didn't even recognize him! Will be able to tease him about it for years to come. :) -

I really hope Grayson isn't interested in Frankie. I would love one man in her life immune to her charms. OTOH, I really am still hoping he'll become Mary's mentor and help her become a real cop. Like that this episode showed her ingenuity and her need for structure and straight-forwardness. I just really enjoyed this one. Plus, nice to see my friend Mike get murdered at the top of the ep. :) -

Was it just me or did they clean up Watts for this episode? From the hair to the tight undershirt, he looked better than he ever had. Wow, what a powerful episode. Riveting story and like @Anothermi, I only figured out the father just before the reveal. Just great acting from both Daniel Maslany and Bill MacDonald (the father). More episodes like this please. Although, I could have done without the Higgins subplot. Just over that character. I only like him with Ruth. -

Most monogamous relationships rarely work either (I'm assuming you're defining "working out" as together until death do you part, which is not a definition I agree with but whatever) but we somehow don't think that's monogamy's fault. Then there's all those poly people who can't have their relationships out in the open because they could lose their house, their jobs, their kids , or their social standing. That lovely couple next door could be poly and you wouldn't even know it. The key to successful relationships, mono or poly, has to do with COMMUNICATION, which is something the men in Coco's life were not doing at the beginning of the episode. Funny how when they risk losing her they become ok again with the situation. Almost like putting the person you love first. Hmm, isn't that how we define mono relationships? Signed, a poly person who's relationships are just fine, thank you very much. -

I like that we saw Julia in her element - advocating for patients against all odds, trusting her instincts. And I really loved the Elizabeth Arden sub-plot. I knew she was Canadian but didn't know about nursing school. The things you learn watching this show! -

Kept hoping each time they'd kill Higgins off. So many teases. :) I like Ruth. Not everyone needs to be super smart. I loved that she was ok without the wealth, just wanted her man. (Who is her intellectual equal, which is why that relationship works.) At least Higgins copped to being an ass. And yes, Rupert going off at the end like a hobo was an utter delight. All and all, this one was fun. I like my Murdoch with fun. -

I would love to see them go in this direction but it doesn't really fit her character. Politics would be too far removed from the things and people she loves. Besides, we already had that plot seasons ago.
