  1. It's always a treat to see Iain Armitage get a chance to show off his acting chops, with a nod to the makeup crew. I wonder what puberty will do to Iain's singing voice -- there came a time when Donnie Osmond could no longer sing his signature song "Puppy Love" on stage without his voice cracking.
  2. I think George was told or led to believe that his contract wasn't going to be renewed.
  3. There are churches displaying the same reaction in 2022 toward gay members -- hence the pending split of the biggest Christian church in the USA. Same self-righteousness, just different excuse.
  4. Has Chris put on another 10 lbs between filming this ep and his being on Colbert's show last week? I should talk! Age can do that. A good excuse anyway. I liked this change of pace, family-friendly episode. And they still managed to shoot people and blow things up. Interesting that even with the team not responding to the Admiral's call for all hands on deck (with no actual case at that time), they were all able to get to their assignments without physically checking in. Is everybody satisfied now? No more baby talk if Kensie & Deeks adopt two ready-made "kids" instead.
  5. How is it that adult Mandy is pregnant and it's all Georgie's fault?
  6. Isaac Asimov's creativity never failed him. But his writing did go downhill noticeably when he finally switched from his trusty manual typewriter to a word processor. Text editors make padding infinitely easier than having to retype whole pages and chapters to insert later thoughts and ideas. Georgie has this going for him, his whole family loves him unconditionally. There is no right or wrong way to handle his situation. They'll work it out. I hope.
  7. This was the exact concept of the Michael Douglas movie "The Game" shoehorned into a CSI: Miami episode with the usual crine drama lack of logic.
  8. It seems to me that when Paige was first introduced, she did have some time unwinding with Missy. Maybe not. In the '70s, it was headline news in Michigan when James Dallas Egbert III, a teenage prodigy, disappeared ("escaped" as it turned out) from the MSU campus. A private detective finally tracked him down and escorted him back to his family -- and his academic life. The following year, he "exited" again, this time permanently, tragically. There was a "Doogie Howser. M.D." episode* that dealt with another young prodigy, one who was never allowed time for friends or "frivolous recreation." At the end of the episode, Doogie's dad asked Doogie if he never wondered why his parents encouraged his friendship with neighbor and BFF Vinnie, with all of his antics and creative adventures. It was because Vinnie was his rock; with Vinnie in his life, they never had to worry about him being under too much pressure. Paige needs that kind of outlet. She needs to join a bowling team. *S2 E8 "Revenge of the Teenage Dead"
  9. Duh. "The Last Word." My aging brain must have spread all those final developments into a couple of imaginary extra episodes. Oops.
  10. None of those upstanding individuals would be caught having sex with Sharon Beck. Besides, this turn of events gives the MC squad a chance to show their 180 since the beginning in The Closer when they couldn't wait to get rid of the whiny beligerant brat. LOL. What a change in Andy just from the Murder Room to the bus depot. Then Sharon's poignant and prophetic "Rusty's home." Btw, I've met teenage street kids at the shelter in San Diego, and they're more likely to be defensive than hostile. The writers apparently are paying for making teenage Rusty so annoying and unpopular because at least in my market the Closer reruns stop with the first Rusty episode.
  11. Geez. As soon as Rusty Beck, I mean the pilot (Graham Patrick Martin has such an unmistakable voice) described the UAP surrounding the plane, I said, it was a drone swarm! That was even before they showed the cluster of lights in the sky. So, anyone with a radio that gets near a Navy fleet can suck up all of its electronic secrets? Something is wrong here. Did I miss a logical explanation?
  12. Maybe you're not familiar with Texas and football (or Indiana and basketball). 😄
  13. I think Travis was the first and only wife/husbanf/lover who really was innocent.
  14. Every time I watch 5:4 with Barret Foa, knowing the background and outcome, his character, Travis, and Barret's acting, breaks my heart. Too bad Brenda couldn't be as sympathetic while grilling him as she was at the end, even holding his hand. An apology would have been nice, too.
  15. Many decades ago, my uncle got a reel-to-reel tape recorder for his birthday. Everyone in the family was so fascinated by it and wanted to play with it, that my poor uncle couldn't get near it.

The obligatory foot chase. Check. Old-school violating civil rights with impunity. Check. Judging by L&O and The Closer, lying to witnesses and suspects, threatening and terrorizing them is OK police procedure -- Brenda Leigh Johnson would be in Agent Bashar's corner all the way. Now, Fritz Howard would simply have shot the killer and would-be assassin in the head point-blank, not waited until he got off a shot while wrestling him to the ground. Since they knew who they were looking for, couldn't they just cover the exits and secure the Russian speaker instead of waiting for the perp to make his move? Oh, right, that would leave them with 20 minutes of airtime to fill. Never mind.
  17. I can ignore most commercials, but the one that is like fingernails on a chalk board is the Medicare Advantage ad with a woman talking endlessly using compressed speech (no gaps or pauses). Can't hit mute (or "off") soon enough. Our landline provider uses it for voicemail announcements. I had to re-record my helpline announcement a dozen times to be able to avoid pausing long enough to trip the compression feature.
  18. ROFL. Ep 2:4 "I, Witness". As often as I've watched this episode, one of my favorites, I never heard this exchange until now: Sharon (to Emma): "The LAPD is not required to babysit your witnesses." Sykes (watching from outside the office): "Except for cute little blonde boys." LOL 🤣
  19. We're on Season 2 here (seasons fly by at 2 eps a night), ep 2 "Final Cut," where Emma puts Rusty through hell prepping him for trial without ever explaining that she's just playing Devil's Advocate, preparing him for the way the defense attorney will grill him. And without Sharon telling her that no judge would let an attorney browbeat and humiliate a juvenile witness on the stand like that -- all Emma would have to do is object. I can believe that an upstart inexperienced ADA might think witnesses have no rights and winning is everything. I can't believe they could take Rusty away from Sharon's legal custody without a court order no matter how much Emma and Taylor huff and puff. This is the point where Sharon should have got Rusty his own attorney, even Jack.
  20. Most jurisdictions won't bother with a consenting 17 year old unless the parents (or Olivia Benson) insist on pressing charges, and not even then if the victim is a male (or as George Carlin put it, not a "victim," just "lucky"). Even at 16, few child welfare agencies have the resources to pursue such neglect or endangerment cases. Teen drinking is another matter, because ATF gets to keep the fines. Footnote: In the 1970s, I had to get the big city newspaper and the Sheriff involved to stop my neighbor from repeatedly whipping his 13 year old stepson with a belt after the local police told me it was none of their business. A parent's "right." Thankfully, times have changed. Mostly. ETA: Note that besides apparently being of the age of consent, Georgie is not a virgin and hopefully learned his lesson about using a condom after his pregnancy scare.

Character flaws aside, it's a common reaction to the death of a child to have to find someone to blame. Anyone, including police, doctors, paramedics, or oneself. It's a matter of looking for a convenient hook on which to hang your anger and grief. It's not rational, but it is common.

"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Or the one." (Spock -- "The Wrath of Khan") Did you know that in the future, your self-driving car would choose to send you into a tree rather than have you collide with a school bus?

    Season 04

The hole in your heart never goes away. Different people have different ways of coping with grief. Or not coping. One family member may regard the bedroom of the deceased as a shrine, e.g., and never want to leave it, while another may not be able to enter it. There is no time table for adjusting to grief, but much depends on how you choose to deal with it. Ultimately, you do what you have to do for yourself in your own time in your own way. Whatever path you choose, may it bring you comfort.
  24. Everything has always been black & white to Sheldon; he's never had to choose between conflicting options. The world is probably a better place because Sheldon comes down on the side of always telling the unvarnished, brutal truth. I have to sympathize with pure-hearted Mary and the choices she has to make in the real world around her. She would do well to learn the Serenity Prayer. And to listen to her Pastor.

That was my thought, too. That was such a violation of procedure I thought I must have missed something. It made me think of the ad with the secret agent in a gun battle when his mom calls to tell him, "Well, the squirrels are back."
