  1. It depends how much Pat gives to him. :-)
  2. We got H&I in the DC Metro area. I came across it as a flipped through the channels last night after Masterpiece on PBS. To my utter surprise and delight, I saw the opening credits of Hill Street Blues (I loved that show when I was kid. I used to stay up on thursday nights to watch it. Must See TV, indeed!)
  3. The biggest WTF moment for me was why Ralphie and Madeleine were the only ones in fancy dress during their engagement party. Anyhow, I don't expect that engagement to proceed to the next step. Anyhow, using Jewel In the Crown as my reference for the Raj, the cultural insensitivity shown is probably 21st century revisionism. The Brits have been in India for at least 100 years. They know of the different cultures and traditions of the various Indian ethnic and religious groups. So if they intentionally served a Hindu beef or a Muslim pork, they were being asshats. What being asshats would accomplish within the context of trying to get support against the Congress forces me to suspend reality even more that it already is.
  4. I think the tonic was a tranquilizer. Barbiturates were already in use by the 1930s http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/studies/cu/cu28.htm
  5. My cat hates the great outdoors. When he was a kitten, I trained him to get into his carrier and to ride in cars, hoping it would be easier to bring him to the vet. I used to drive him on errands (ex. to the post office) or take him to the park. But no luck. He hates it. He'll grudgingly get into his carrier. Then when I bring him outside, he starts hissing and giving annoyed meowwwrrrrrrs. When he's in the car, he won't say anything for the first minute then the hissing starts. Eventually, he just starts meowwwing non-stop until we get home. At the vets office, he's hissing and meowwwrrrring at everyone. He once got into a hiss-bark fight with a dog in the waiting room. :-( Otherwise, he's a really nice cat. When my nephews came to live with us, he accepted them immediately. Anyhow, PBS will air a Civil War drama. I requested a forum for it and it's there. I hope it's good.
  6. I agree with the comments about using the maiden name of a widow. Even divorced women went by their ex-husband's surname. Wallis Simpson was Mrs. Simpson after her divorce, she didn't revert to Wallis Warfield. Thankfully Mercy Street (a Civil War medical drama airing on PBS in January) is filmed in Virginia. But they can completely screw up on the "Southern accent" the actors/actresses will/won't have.
  7. The razor blade thing was creepy because it reminded me of this uber creepy razor blasde scene in St. Elsewhere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMpGexG8M4I(80'stv dramas were great!) About the kidnapping I think it's either Lucious behind it to break Cookie's resolve or it's the Feds who are using Hakeem's disappearance as a mind-game thing to force Lucious' and Cookie's hand.
  8. Episode 1 when Alice arrives at the house, Ralphie: What happened to my sister? Alice: Grew up, so I'm told. Ralphie: Well, someone should have warned me. And Alice and Sarah at the party Sarah: Private Secretary to Lord Willingdon. You must be proud. Alice: Well, I haven't seen him in a long time. Sarah: And how old were you when you left India? do you mind my asking? Alice: When I was sent back to England? No I don't mind you asking. I was eight. Sarah: And Ralphie would have been... Alice: Just 13. then Alice goes on about spending holidays with an aunt and never seeing her parents again. From those two pieces of background, I got the feeling that Ralph and Alice hadn't seen each other in years. And it was Alice who was sent to home, not Ralph.
  9. Ralphie's brother from another mother Y'all are cracking me up today! What we do know is that Alice was sent home at age 8. Ralphie was not and stayed in India with their parents. That's very unusual because children were sent home to be educated in England---at least for university.
  10. I think we're seeing the Wayne family's shady past because this Batman is not only avenging his parent's death but is also fighting crime to make amends for his family's past. In other words, this Batman will be on a guilt trip.
  11. I'm curious to see how Pat got together with that loser in the first place.
  12. heh! I have a feeling that Madeline's oil tycoon father is broke or close to broke, that's why she was game to bang Ralphie every chance she got. Also, it seem like the only person with the resources to do a background check is Sarah.
  13. I meant Thristy's homage to pimps in blaxploitation movies as a compliment---because his character is as shady as a blaxploitation pimp. :-)
  14. So Alice is a creepy stalker chick, spying on Aafrin and his girlfriend while they make out in a cemetery, because Alice so badly wants to do the horizontal Lindy Hop with him. Adam's mama is a creepy stalker stalking the orphanage because she wants her son back. Sarah is a creepy stalker because she gets her sister in England to snoop into Alice's background because she wants Alice to be her BFF. Speaking of creepy BFFs, I think we've witnessed the start of Ralphie's creepy bromance with Aafrin.
  15. And he has to go in a ghastly way too.
  16. Thirsty is dressed like a pimp from a blaxploitation film. How many extra-heavy duty push-up bras does does the prosecutor wear?
  17. I think this show makes fun of itself, other soaps, and the real world. So the result is over-the-top and campy. I'm not sure how well the Nielsen's represent tv viewing with all of the "on demand" viewing these days.
  18. No, you aren't. I thought he was tiresome last season and I think he's obnoxious this season.
  19. I agree with you. I liked some of Cookie's wardrobe last season. But this season---- it looks like the stuff Good Will throws away embellished with finds from Michaels/AC Moore and Home Depot.
  20. I don't like Cookie's fashion (non)sense this season either. That peacock motiff blouse thing she wore in the first episode looked like they went to a craft store, bought feather boas and sequins and used a hot glue gun to attach it to the blouse. And that rope dress thing looked like they bought it at Home Depot.
  21. in the 1960s' Batman comics, Bruce's guardian is his uncle (Thomas Wayne's brother). So at least in one Batman canon, Thomas Wayne has a brother.
  22. A few things.... 1. Cookie's hair----hated it! It made Taraji look like an old, wrinkled hag. 2. Michael. Last season I felt sorry for him because Jamal was an ass. But now I feel he has a problem with Jamal being successful AND famous. Or maybe he thinks Jamal will dump him for that artist. 3. Andre Lyon and the Forest of the Holey Trees: Being the soap opera it is, I was hoping that when they would find Vernon's grave site empty. I also thought when Rhonda told Andre that was enough and they had to get out of there, she would begin miscarrying the baby. And what was the logic behind moving the body of someone who 1. no one knows is dead, 2. no one knows is buried in the Holey Tree Forest, 3. no one knows they did it? 4. Hakeem: He needs to become more emotionally mature because Lucious takes advantage of that. 5. Anika: I totally thought Cookie would do that. Anika cannot be trusted at all. 6 Cookie: Smart tactic giving the Booby misinformation about the radio acquisition. 7. Lucious: Piece of Scum Rating for this week 9.5 out of 10.
  23. She only got that after she threatened to go public with how Lucious got the money and only after she signed a non-disclosure contract that she would not go public with that information. It wasn't like Lucious gave it to her willingly.
  24. Poor Pengy----his mama being held hostage by those thugs. If he wants to get back at Theo and Tab, he should sprinkle some public lice in Barbara's panties. I agree with everyone who thinks Kringle is as krazy as Ed. She would make a better Harlequin than STD (aka Barbara).
  25. Phil isn't as self-absorbed as Mario Battali, Gwenth Paltrow, Mark Bittman and that Spanish actress were when they drove around Spain talking about themselves, their families, themselves, and a little bit about Spanish food. (That was the WORST food-travel show E.V.E.R.!) I'll give him that much but his "goofy" persona is grating.
