Didn't Zac say to Brandon "we've seen this several times. You need to do something else?" Then Brandon gets the win? I quite liked the sleeves and pink striped fabric, but it certainly didn't represent "good." Kenya should have gotten the win. Maybe the twins will run with scissors and "accidentally" trip over someone's foot. I think this Swatch is version 2.0. I swear I read the original Swatch crossed the bridge.

I thought Portrait of Jennie was quite bizarre also. Did he not realize that Jennie was dead? He was so shocked when the nun told him she died. I've seen Casablanca a number of times, yet the last time I watched it (a few months ago) I realized it is as near a perfect movie as you can get.

I said Istanbul on the Orient Express DD. I don't think of Turkey being in Asia. When I said as much to my mother years ago she said "well, what continent do YOU think it should be on?" Not nice, Mom.

Twenty minutes in and I'm saying Austin Scarlett's Grammy Dress re: Claire.

Was the movie about Harold Lloyd and Lillian Gish?????

I had no clue as to FJ! I answered Alexander the Great. I know nothing about history prior to 1900. And nobody getting Lindbergh??? WTF.

Watching Portrait on Jennie simply for Jo Cotten. And Ethel Barrymore. I adore Jo Cotten.

No clue as to FJ! I said rudyard Kipling. Face palm.....I didn't realize how much I missed the show. I even listened to the contestant interviews.

Someone said "I'm using the Chrysler Building as inspiration" and I immediately thought of Jay's dress from Season 1. Do you think any of the Season 16 contestants have even watched Season 1?

American Authors: Hemingway or Fitzgerald

Yeah, Edison is portrayed as quite a jerk.

"Morons. I've got morons on my team." I've seen this movie countless times, and yes, it holds up, likely because it is a period piece, and therefore we expect it to be dated. I do love the use of sepia and still shots. I'm a big Newman fan and appreciated Redford for his looks, but he can be a rather wooden actor.

Read The Woman in Cabin Ten over the weekend. Yet another psychological thriller in which the scrappy heroine..... don't bother to read it. Now reading The Last Days of Night, a fictionalized account of the Edison/Westinghouse/Tesla battle over the lightbulb. It's quite good, and I have an intense interest in Tesla (who I imagine to look like David Bowie from the movie The Prestige.).

Seibelius/Finland/Norway will be on the board, probably in DJ!

Isn't this Swatch 2.0? I thought the original died a few years ago.

The clue in Capital Attractions was "The Peace something, maybe museum". The answer was Oslo so I assumed I had been wrong forever. The Peace Price is awarded in Oslo, all the other prizes in Stockholm. I'm glad I haven't been wrong all these years. I am a proud Swede.

For decades I thought Alfred Nobel was Swedish.....

Finished Gone Without A Trace, by Mary Torjussen, this morning. Stayed up too late last night reading and got up early. I usually figure these types out but I was guessing til the end. I literally gasped at the last few pages. I subscribe to a service from bookbub. Fill out a questionnaire, and I get a daily email with low price/free e-books in my selected categories.

The Teachers Tournament is the lamest. It's easier than Kids' Week.

Are we still in tournament reruns? I caught the tail end of Friday's college tournament.

New to this thread but have to say I was so excited to start The Little Friend (Tartt) because I loved The Goldfinch and The Secret History. Confess I could not finish The Little Friend. Not only does she overwrite (which isn't bad because I love her style), but it goes onandonandon and veers to a totally different plotline than it starts with.

Season 3 when the designers had to use materials from the recycle center. The designer was Alison. It scares me that I remember this stuff.

Comfort Food Books: Which Ones Call You Back, Again and Again?
PaulaO replied to CalamityBoPeep's topic in Books
All of my re-reads have been mentioned. The Cheerleader and its sequel, Snowy. Maud Hart Lovelace's Betsy books (Betsy Was a Junior is my favorite). The Beany Malone series, which convinced me that a girl had to be married by 21, and that didn't happen to me so I got rid of the books because they shaped me in a bad way. Anne of Green Gables. Of course Harry Potter, but specifically The Half-Blood Prince. I used to re-read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn but as an adult I couldn't abide the descriptions of poverty. I have read every Agatha Christie multiple times but they haven't aged well for me. And my ultimate reread, Gone With The Wind. -
I also say WWI through WWII, although the book must be set in England. I particularly like the between wars period.

Friday I watched Rear Window. Mind you, it was a bad copy on YouTube streamed onto my TV. A bit grainy. I really did not like it. I felt uncomfortable, hot, and skeevy, which mean Hitchcock succeeded. I also felt the movie was very dated. A heat wave in NYC and everyone has their windows open and shades up. Today everyone would have their a/c on and blinds closed. In contrast to watching Stagecoach Saturday morning which did not feel dated to me because it took place in a time period I didn't live through. I don't get the love for Rear Window except for Grace Kelly's entrance dress.
