So after the show is canceled or the Browns have to move to another 'deep bush' area for whatever many reasons (gunshots in the night, bears in the bathroom, the Integrity runs aground so they abandon it on a rock...) what happens to what seems to be an actual decent enough forest cabin built by the local crews? Does it get sold? Does it revert to whoever actually owns the property? Does a crew member get to claim ownership? Once the godawful mess which is Browntown is cleaned up it might make an okay home/getaway for someone, bears notwithstanding. Just wondering.

I absolutely agree with you...but...my own fully employed 27 year old son has chosen (rightly or wrongly) not to have any credit cards, had no student debt to pay off (he was given scholarships and worked during summers to pay for room and board and stuff). Hence he has no credit. He doesn't have bad credit--he has no credit. He has bank accounts, pays his rent/utilities/insurance and all of that stuff without using credit cards but no credit. He took a lesson from my big bro who can't hold onto $ with crazy glue, pays his Mastercard off using his Visa and has lost 2 houses because he likes big houses in nice neighborhoods on a lake. Babyboy saw all this growing up and made a choice for himself. I only mention this as there may be some other reason aside from laziness for Michael being able to pay a mortgage. Okay, I don't know what, but something (yes, probably laziness and happily taking Mom's handouts).

NO, no, no...with respect I'm afraid that you all have it wrong; The mean ole gubmint is keeping Ryan in OK and away from Vicki because they're a bunch of mean ole meanies and they don't even care how hard she works or anything! And besides, her mom died and they didn't send a casserole or anything. It occurred to me that if someone actually had dropped by with a casserole Ms Vicki would have complained that she doesn't like tuna, dammit, and she hates celery and they used a really ugly, cheapass dish which isn't even microwave proof and if they really cared about and had her back they would know that!

Something else occurred to me; in the first season the Browns almost (almost...) came across as legit. Okay, they screwed up building their cabin and had to work in the snow but the neighbors came and bailed them out, more or less. It was as the seasons went by that their reality was brought to light; their wilderness was actually a mile or whatever up the road from a pizza place, they were clearly clueless about actually living in the wild/hunting/tools maintenance/ wearing appropriate clothing/ basic boating skills. Billy and the fam are tech savvy, they pulled down blogs. Bit by bit the BS was exposed; Bam's supposed kid somewhere, Matt's various problems, supposed locals were actually hired actors or crew filling in. The felony charges are real and they're not just these poor folks trying-to-live-their -lives-in-freedom-as-the-good-lord-intended, despite the spin. As the lies and BS mounted it's becoming more and more impossible for them for more and more people to buy what they're selling. I'm thinking it's going to be increasingly difficult for TPTB to sell this much longer and I'm thinking that, money aside, the Browns may be getting tired of playing this particular game.

Good point, especially if they're bought, paid for and run by the paid crew so you don't have to do squat.

S11.E03: Lies In The Air, Sand In My Hair

Oh, c'mon--she busy working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I recall watching that, both the chainsawing and the later reattachment and thinking 'wouldn't it be easier, make more senseto just unbolt the stairs instead of destroying them?' Also,m kept wondering where the power for the electric fence came from...solar panels we never saw? A generator the cats maybe kept supplied with gas? Thank you. I've been thinking that for months---you have a lot of heavy crap to carry and only the good lord knows how far---buy a heavy duty trolley or a couple of wagons or dollys. I mean seriously, even for the Browns this comes under the category of 'duh'. I mean supposedly entertaining scenes of them jackassing stuff around aside, that's just beyond ridiculous.

I gather that tonight is the season finale. I can't help but wonder if there'll be another season. i know we're all on the cynic train with this mess but evidently there are still a crowd who feel deeply for these poor people and their endless fight against da'man and gubmint. Wait and see, I guess.

S08.E15: All Bets Are Off

And what I find interesting is that she feels the need to justify it--if she's that aware of it, obviously knows she's being criticized for it (hence the need to justify it), then frigging stop. And no, I don't care how many reasons or excuses she has; she's an obnoxious, entitled, alienating bitch. -

I tried to watch this, I really did but every time I looked up from what I was doing all I saw/heard were two, three or more women talking/shrieking over one another about god knows what trivial piece of contrived BS. I changed the channel. Possibly forever and ever. -
Huh??? I zoned out and missed that; sounds pretty damn funny. Re the ex's light up phone; he was an engineer who often worked for bands, worked odd hours and would often be in clubs or theaters where the noise was considerable, hence the need for a light up phone.

She wasn't alone; the film crew was there, as always. -
Another thought; the family (and especially Matt who was the adult involved) could have declined to allow his alcohol problem be included in filming. He opted--for whatever reasons--to let that very personal and seemingly real problem be included in this mess. I've no idea why that choice was made, perhaps pressure from TPTB? Maybe family pressure for interest/reality/$? Maybe they're so caught up in the show that they thought it should be shown? A warning to vulnerable viewers? Who knows but I'm not sure it would be my decision since--as with any dependency--the outcome is never assured.

About 35 years ago my now ex, an electrical engineer, had a similar problem--he never heard his phone so rigged a light, some kind of LED to light up when it rang. Silly guy actually went with real supplies and skipped the whole jury-rig crap. Of course, he was an actual, for real engineer who knew electronics backwards and forwards... I was going to comment on the latest but it was just so...eh. Boring. The only thing which might have rung true was Matt's rehab/alcohol problem and his legitimate fear/embarrassment in telling his family but even that was badly handled via orchestrated closeups and 'I love you, man' bromance stuff. I know this is cynical but, c'mon--this is a real problem with potentially life threatening consequences as opposed to the usual Browncrap where they might die!!!! In this case it actually has that chance (I grew up with an alcoholic parent and it wasn't always a good time) and to tie it in with BS revolving the boat--yet again--not starting, an ohmygod storm which wasn't, almost destroying the skiff and so on all tied together with Ami's macrame dog hair bracelet....please. Just...seriously, please.

S08.E14: The Benefits Of Friendship
Beden replied to Tara Ariano's topic in The Real Housewives Of New York City
Yes, the drinks are in NJ as well but now tend to be in the back, not up front in prime positions. I walked past the margaritas to the Captain Morgan...much better stuff. -
I also wondered how the broke as broke can be Browns managed the costs of a month in rehab. I know...but still, a small suspension of belief.

Lifestyle Alaskan Bush People's Matt Brown Reveals His Rehab Journey: 'I Could See Myself Spiraling' Matt Brown didn't like the man he was becoming. "I could see myself spiraling," the Alaskan Bush People star says exclusively in the current issue of PEOPLE. Once he began spending more and more time drinking with friends "in town" over the past year, Brown admits, "I was more withdrawn. I was slower. Things didn't excite me the way they used to." Brown, 33, says he first started drinking a few years ago when his family's boat broke down and they began spending time in nearby Juneau. "I've always been able to handle city life, no problem." says Brown. "But I started hanging out with people who drank. They didn't have a problem with it so while I was around them, I started drinking." The eldest Brown child says he began to make "bad choices"; he chose to stop drinking but picked up the habit again in the past year. "I started drinking lightly and then it got to be more and more," he says. "That's when I saw the problem around the corner, and I didn't want to be one of those guys." Brown was also conflicted about keeping his habit a secret from his parents and six younger siblings, who don't drink – or, as Brown puts it, are "teetotalers." "There was a shame for feeling weak. I didn't want to tell them that," says Brown. "But my family trusts each other. We don't have secrets, so it made me feel that I was more of a bad guy." • Look for Matt Brown's story in the latest issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday

S11.E02: Making Friends But Not Amends

It also sounded to me like this was a conversation they'd had maybe 7,000 times already and he was simply fed up with going around the block again. My brother was hitting dad up for 'loans' til bro was in his 50's, never paid them back and was pissed when, as dad's executor, I fulfilled my father's wishes by not forgiving the 6 figure debt he'd built up and assumed would be wiped clean. Loving high end houses on lakes, good restaurants and travel, he's still living paycheck to paycheck in his late 60's--not my problem and his choice to make but I'll be damned if I'll finance it for him. With the best of intentions, you may not be helping you kid by always bailing them out (literally or figuratively). Help is one thing, enabling is a different matter. -

OTR? -
Realizing completely that Alaska and Canada are different countries...back in the day my grandparents had a summer place in Canada, located on an island in very large lake, we all went up there every year, young and old. All the motor boats had running lights both for safety, common sense and by law--big or small, they all had lights, life jackets, bilge pumps and so on. Of course my grandparents weren't idiots. The canoe and rowboat were lightless so I guess we just took our chances (and were always to have them home by dark under dire penalties).

Yes to all of the above. I also suspect that as she feels that she gets no support from her actual family and is at odds with so many people she may need the approval and support of total strangers via book sales/signing parties and the inevitable talk show appearances. To validate herself she seems to need to stay in the public eye to fill the massive void in her actual life. A lot of busy keeps you from having to think too much about stuff you'd rather like to shove in the closet. -
I don't think Noah has invented them yet.

I think that the ratings are, for some unfathomable reason, pretty good which means that ads revenues are probably decent. Oy. As long as this mess is profitable (and they even managed to spin felony convictions as being just fine and the poor Browns just can't catch a break) then it will continue. I do, however, wonder how much of a slush fund TPTB have to repair, replace, restore and compensate for the mess they're leaving in their collective wakes...sunken boats (they leak oil/gas and cause obvious pollution in addition to being a navigation hazard), destruction of pristine wilderness, piles of garbage, unpaid bills, having to deal with a production crew and disruption of day to day activities and so on. I used to live in a town where the Sopranos filmed--they were all perfectly nice people and professional but roads/parks would be closed for days and while the town made $, it was an ongoing PITA for years. Come to think of it, I'm guessing that Hoonah is being paid for their inconvenience; that would be standard and, of course, the locals are making $ for construction and for acting as extras..

I'll second that. As to B&BB...not so much.
