  1. Advertisers don't want older demographics. It takes more advertising impressions to make a sale and elderly persons are more willing to do research and look for the best deal while younger people jump on the latest trend.
  2. As i said, I think a Mary Sue Torkelson type might have worked. Someone who is mostly a sweetheart but has moments of impish humor. A better contrast with Darlene then Generation Xerox.
  3. And Emma Kenney is an adult and starting to look beyond school age. Reminds me of the story of the narc squad putting one of their police officers undercover into a high school as a student. Needless to say there was much snarking at him from the real kids.
  4. Darlene might have worked better with a Mary Sue Torkelson type sweetheart with impish humor than Harris.
  5. TROPE: Jerk Jock tries to forcibly dance with female character who is the date of male character at a school dance. The two start fighting over the teenage female. When Jerk Jock turns towards her, the female date punches him hard in the gut. (As seen in an episode of "Almost Home")
  6. it was often asked at the height of Brady Reunion Mania why more shows did not do it. But, for example, Bewitched, too many important cast members were dead by the 1980s (Agnes Moorehead) or incapacitated (Dick York).
  7. TROPE ABOUT ELDERLY PEOPLE I HATE: They still in TV shows and movies show elderly people listening to big band and swing music ala the Greatest Generation's youth. Someone who is in their seventies now, came of age to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
  8. Re Harris: Dawson Casting is always interesting, specially in countries like like Britain and Australia which use school uniforms.
  9. @mmecorday Weird Timey Thing, yeah. The same amount of time has passed since the Buck Rodgers TV show as had between it and the Buster Crabbe serial. But in 1979, 1939 felt like ancient history. 1979 feels like yesterday.
  10. I liked Ruth Ann. Anna Slotky deserved better than for her character to be wiped from the timeline. it's doubly sad that her only other TV role that many remember is Cheryl from 3rd Rock from The Sun who August Leffler ridicules as a slutty airhead who August says uses padding to make boys think she's got big boobs.
  11. Some MeTV promos are really good. If they ever acquire The Torkelsons/Almost Home, an obvious plot for a promo is Anna Slotky in character as Ruth Ann Torkelson talking about how she was erased from existence by the retool.
  12. All Anissa wanted to do that night was get stoned.
  13. TV children , both male (Urkel) and female (Morgan Matthews #2), are allowed to behave in ways that would have been harshly punished. My grandmother had a hand that she knew how to use as my mother found out.
  14. OT: Speaking of Family Affair, Anissa is great and all, but Sasha Pieterse "Buffy" in the remake has been given a bubbling dark undercurrent that is really enjoyable ("You're beginning to ANNOY Mrs. Beasley!")
  15. Worse are those in the LGBT community who criticise Robert (and Dick Sargent, Paul Lynde, Rock Hudson etc) for not coming out and proud when they were at their height of fame. These children don't understand how ruinous that would been for all of these men, and possibly dangerous.
  16. I wonder what Paul Lynde thinks in the Great Hereafter about him being the go-to guy when you need a voice for a campy gay stereotype in animation?
  17. There a lot of references in the Hartnell era to the Doctor being human.... and there is a reference by Mavic Chen in The Daleks' Master Plan that the Doctor is just using A Form You Are Comfortable With. The show itself was ambiguous. This "Time Lord" malarky was retroactive continuity.
  18. Of the main cast, William Schallert (Boarder Hodges) and Brittany Murphy (Molly Morgan) are the only ones that are known to be dead.
  19. Ruth Ann and Steven Floyd got the Chuck Cunningham treatment and never existed in the Almost Home continuity.
  20. Thank Fate that he died before his HIV developed any further. The tabloids/gutter press reaction to "Mike Brady" with full-blown AIDS would have been horrible for Robert.
  21. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Torkelsons Just rewatching The Dance. Whoever in the studio audience that wolf whistles when the camera cuts to (then 18 year old) Alyson Hannigan in her pink rose dance dress had better not have been a much older adult. This episode also has one of my favourite lines from Mary Sue (about Chuckie Lee doing the disappearing handcuffs trick on her): "This had better work, boy. Or you're going to wish you could make yourself disappear!"
  22. The Olsens made millions off people's love of Michelle. I will *never* see that kind of money.
  23. That time when America loved Michelle Tanner so the writers responded by making the show All Michelle, All The Time, is something no one will admit to anymore.
  24. female hitchhikers on TV who manage to get to where they want instead of being raped, strangled and left in the woods or by the side of the road. young sitcom kids (I'm looking at you, Michelle Tanner) who sneak out of their homes and are NOT pulled into windowless vans and next seen tagged in a morgue.
  25. Don't get me started about GMW. Always wished Ava (the character) would be pulled into a windowless white van and Auggie never forgets the night the police came to their door...
