Kody Brown: Daddy Dearest Kody Brown: Patriarchy at its Worst Kody: The Brown with the Permanent Frown -
I remember in the earlier shows Logan used to call Kody out often. Those were the days Kody somewhat kept his cool - at least on camera.

During a 9/10 month school year schools close for a week to two weeks for Christmas, followed by a a week off in February and a week off in the spring. They also have 4 or 5 three day holiday weekends and the summer off. School is 180 days a year. Basically half a year. The Rods spend hours on the road which is perfect time for reading, studying, flash cards, etc. They are also home for weeks at a time. They also have evenings no matter where they are. And they have a 6 day week, leaving Sunday for church, when public school is a 5 day week. Even with the Rods' vacations and grifting tours, their kids still likely have more time for school than the average kid. And lets be real, these kids aren't writing reports, doing research papers, doing science experiments, don't have gym class and they're not breaking out in groups for projects. And as @merylinkid mentioned, its up to the teacher to provide a schedule and adhere to it.

Okay, Jill's not wrong about Hallmark movies. They all seem to move home to save a company and then fall in love with someone new. But first, these are MOVIES and second most folks in real life do not marry the first person they fall in love with, and lastly, I don't recall a lot of divorces in these movies - just break-ups. I love the way JillR is trying to have it both ways - judging without judging. Now she'll pretend to judge characters in movies and not real folks. And wow, it sounds like their maps are working overtime.

Beauty and beauty practices. In the Jessa thread the discussion is about Ben going for the pretty Duggar daughter. And this discussion about stuck-in-the-80s JillR competing with, and sabotaging, her own daughters' beauty. Then there's a handful of Bates sisters who wear way more make-up than JillR, but in a more tasteful way. Also, in the above picture of Nurie is Hosanna Plath from another TV Fundy family. Hosanna, one of the few kids in the family who is still Fundy (and not on the show) has a face full of make-up and one of her non-Fundy sisters wears more make-up than drag queens, but not in an attractive way. If you think about it, from the head up, these "modest" women are about as mainstream as it gets. We all see examples of these women in our everyday "worldly" lives.

Kody Brown: The Man Who Survived a KNIFE to the KIDNEYS!

Agree! And dogs playing pool. -
I'm not sure a social construct is dictating folks' behaviors. The weather in the east tends to dry out this time of the year and the nights are cooler, so the water becomes cooler as well. Most vacations are done and kids are back to school. Its a lot of work/money to keep a pool open if no one is swimming in it. And the public pools and lakes close because kids are back in school too. I'm guessing the Rods wouldn't be playing in ditch water in the fall. Well then again, maybe they would. But of course if your Carlin Bates who has a heater for her pool, she'll likely close it later. I have to say some of these same New Englanders who end summer in September also break out the shorts in March and April when its still chilly. From my 50+ years living here I find it to be the norm more than the exception.

Weird, I've lived in the east my entire life. Its always been this way in my area. My FB is filled with fall memes, countered by the few telling the pumpkin spicers to put down their drinks and have a margarita because, damn it summer isn't over. Public pools are closed after today, lakes will have no lifeguards, private owners are closing their pools up, etc. I think Jill will do both - walk around with a cheery face when it suits her and pout when that suits her. She plays all the games. And then of course the fake tears will come when they drive off.

Its almost 80 toady, sunny and breezy with NO humidity. IMO, perfect weather. It gradually gets cold, with Halloween usually feeling pretty chilly, to downright cold. Pumpkin spice coffee, pumpkin donuts/bagels, pumpkin beer, etc. You name it and someone will have somehow flavored it pumpkin. I find it disgusting, but I'm in the minority.

I'm sure they already secured the mortgage prior to him quitting, so the bank saw three years of apprenticeship and a new steady job. They didn't know he went on FMLA from day 1 and quit a few months later. When my friend and her husband were moving from one end of the state to the other, her husband secured a new job with a month out start date and since she was pregnant she didn't quit her job until after they had found a house and secured a mortgage. She then started a new job 3 months after the baby was born because she's the primary bread winner.

Yea fall is 9/22, but here in the east we consider fall after Labor Day really. Everyone is all back to school occupied and all about pumpkin spice this and pumpkin spice that, chomping at the bit for a 12' skeleton, etc. And yea, despite Heidi being a bit of a tom-boy, I could see her going full on princess gown. We also consider the month of December winter, when really only about 1/3 of it is.

Yes, and also the bullshit of a man not working for a woman. All Chad would need to do is get a steady job for a year and he would qualify for a mortgage. He was shocked when he was previously turned down for a mortgage. I don't know why he was shocked - his income was unpredictable and had been for years. Banks don't like what are called "gig" employment, including freelancers and independent contractors.
