Isn't that about three bagels worth of lox for one guy? Or am I just stingy?

MacArthur's ego might want more than this.... Or else it's another suckup action by Jer .... Look! My wife has been overcome with righteous passion to be a part of Your Church! Your Church! Your Church, Sir! Just like me, she's Yours right down to the bone!

Maybe his backspace key stopped working and he could not fix it no matter which of the surefire found-on-the-internet fixes he tried. That happened to me the other day and I was so happy I had an external keyboard in a box on the shelf! 😁 .... Life without a working backspace key is hell. Hell, I tells ya...... (about three days later I managed to fix the key, though....or maybe it had been on vacation and was just ready to start working again...) He had that cat in his Laredo office (where there seemed to be no path to the desk chair without climbing either over or under the desk). And I always thought it was the weirdest thing and still do..... He used to pretend that he counseled a lot of suffering Christians in that office, and I wondered what the counselees thought about seeing a bobcat poised to strike right next to them.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events
Churchhoney replied to maraleia's topic in Counting On
I doubt it. Seemed pretty clear to me from both of them that they were speaking entirely for themselves. Both were kids when Josh was a teenage boy and both their families were involved in some church or IBLP thing along with the Duggars. But I don't think it's very likely that they were involved in the same thing with the Duggars or at exactly the same time. Justin indicated that his family were for a somewhat limited period of time -- maybe a year or two -- in a home church the Duggars had -- so that's how he observed things. I think Jacob's family must have had some IBLP involvement at some point, because his dad did some kind of construction-related work for both the Duggs and the Bateses, I think. Justin's some years older than Jacob was, too, I believe. Looks to me as if it's just that both of them saw the interaction between JB-and-M and the Golden Son over some period when Josh was a kid. And neither liked what they saw.... Maybe their parents talked about it at home, too...... Who knows? And then when the stuff happened this spring, they hearkened back to seeing Smuggar and his Attitude canonized by his parents when he was a kid, and they saw the likelihood that it was still going on.......and their memories disturbed them. They also both seem to come from more rational, less arrogant, less insular, less self-involved and non-fame-whore-y families compared to the Duggars, too. Which could explain a lot, I think.... -
Come to find out, the dad of shoe woman here, heyitsaimeejoy, is one of the Grace Community Church members who died of Covid. In March 2021 (about a month after Johnny M returned triumphantly to the pulpit after his (unacknowledged but likely) Covid event). Her mom was hospitalized but is recovering. Be surprised if they didn't catch it in the massed, unmasked singing congregation of a Sunday. This church and others have killed a lot of people. But I guess it's okay cause they've all been baptized correctly and flew right to Jesus. Her family has a GoFundme up because they're struggling with medical bills since her dad and almost her mom died for Jesus. I feel no motivation to control my burgeoning disgust.

I think it's all really like "fashion." .... Somehow humans tend to feel the need to show some sign that they're really part of the group and integral to the best part of the group and fully up on what matters to the best group right now today. And whereas that often has to do with clothes or home decor or going to the "best" college or country club, I think it operates in a lot of religious circles too. .... You've gotta get saved and in the right way and ostentatiously to show that you're part of the right eternal clique. And in this case, Jingle performed this for her old clique -- The Clique of the Correct Jesus According to Duggar Types. But now she's joined The Clique Formed By John MacArthur, so she needs to ostentatiously show up in a new outfit of salvation or he's likely to throw hubby out of the church..... Even if you just mow lawn or write code or wash windows or proofread at his enterprises, he does his utmost to force you to be a member in good standing of his church and no other, even one that would seem to be quite similar. So I'm sure that goes double for wives of his seminarians and employees.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

This accident was actually a different guy -- who also talked about Jim Bob's ill-advised long-term favoring of Josh this spring. He did it in a video, I think. .... I have a vague memory of him sitting in a car or a truck and talking about it....Maybe it was on Instagram? or youtube? Anyway, his name is Jacob. ... And his father is Clark Wilson, who helped JB with his house, back in the early TV days. This is a story about what Jacob Wilson said this spring -- https://dailysoapdish.com/2021/05/counting-on-jim-bob-duggar-called-out-told-to-stop-covering-for-son-josh-duggar/ -
Jed! and Katey: Biblically Bunking Together

To which they replied, "We're from families where that's the only thing anybody gives a damn about! And in his family, once the baby is born, they give way less of a damn about its name or its abilities or its personality than about its number!" And the other people backed away from them as fast as possible, looking disturbed.- 1.9k replies

With one of these they'd have a theme. The next ones could be Bluelightspecial Duggar and Savingsmadesimple Duggar. Biglots Duggar after that. -

Since the guy had the password that Josh apparently has used for years for literally everything, I wonder why he didn't just clean out Joshley's bank account, too. (not that Boob puts any significant amount into it at any one time of course....) 😁 -
Joy and Austin: This One Time At Family Camp

All I can think of is maybe she kinda learned how to float on her back at some point -- maybe somebody encouraged her to become water safe to at least that extent? -- and then propelled herself by kicking.....in which case, "swimming backwards" kinda sorta? Or else she's making absolutely zero sense, which is quite possible. ETA: Oops. See I'm a day late although not really a dollar short, just kind of redundant. -

I watched 41 seconds of the video. Wasn't watching the time tick by and thought it had to be at least a few minutes by the amount of annoyed, sickened and bored I was accumulating. But, no, they packed an enormous amount of all those things into 41 seconds. Katey, you got biblically betrothed to a creepy cretinous slug. Have fun with that for the rest of your long long life.- 1.9k replies

Unfortunately, I'd say that's the Meechelle-, Jim Bob- and Bill Gothard-approved-and-recommended hair "style." Growing Up Duggar came out in 2014, and here are all four of the poor things. Crunchy and ridiculous looking as all get-out https://www.walmart.com/ip/Growing-Up-Duggar-Hardcover-9781451679168/23780569

I think they probably developed that habit at home. When they were kids, they were probably all relatively droopy in photos. They didn't seem to get enough sleep or even food and while some think they probably had a lovely happy fairly normal childhood, I don't think that's very likely in their cult, in their church, or in their family, in which the parents have screws loose. But....their parents expected them to shine shine shine in photos! Not droop! Because I Have the Correct Jesus In My Heart! And Because It's Important To Godly Daddy and Mama That I Burnish Their Image With a Big Smile!!! And when you aren't producing a lot of natural smiles for the camera, the fallback procedure for most people is to mug. So that's what I think they did. .... I mean, all the older daughters sometimes make stupid faces of one kind or another for the camera. And i expect the pressure on them to be smiley was the strongest, since males can look strong!!! and important!!! with a non-smiley face. But Females Exist To Make Males Feel Good And Affirm The Heads of Their Household! So they've gotta smile! --- Hence, the mugging. This is my supposition, anyway. Much of it's based on my own experience. I didn't learn to mug because a stupid mug was considered unacceptable in my family, where TPTB were less stupid and more generally serious than JB and M...... Instead, I learned to create relatively convincing natural-looking fake smiles. .... That's a much more valuable skill going forward than mugging, I think. Hence, Duggar education fails again....😁

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

Possibly, like many others, they've just gotten sloppier as the demands of doing both print and online stuff have ramped up. Back when it was all paper, they could fact check a bit, copy edit and proofread. Now they have the massive web presence for which they can barely do any of those things. And it wouldn't surprise me if there's been a simultaneous dropoff in checking for stuff that goes in the print version. .... Pubs with both online and print versions have a huge amount of additional work they ought to do with all the extra copy they have..... But at the same time all of them are coping with a dropoff in revenues. A dropoff in revenues combined with an exponential rise in copy means more sloppiness and amateur-hour performance everywhere. Not really an alternative, probably..... Plus, they know that for stuff like this they're an entertainment gossip-as-candy rag. So it's not like it actually matters. They're not writing about Joshie as crime news. They're writing about him as celeb crap. ..... The standards have always differed between the two. -

Wonder if they think there's such a thing as bad publicity?

Yeah. There are a fair number of jobs where having a law degree is a nice to have but you don't have to pass the bar. You probably won't make as much money, of course. (although you might...) But it's not like you've cut yourself off from all decent employment opportunities, either. You still learned some stuff in law school that some employers see as desirable. I wonder whether he's got the energy and focus to try again -- with the risk of a second failure, which I think might scare him off it, since he knows now how much it'll require for him to pass -- or whether he'll just scout out something else to do. Heck, about half the lawyers I know who passed the bar have quit practicing sooner or later (often sooner) to do something else. Some things for which the law degree is quite helpful; other things for which it doesn't matter. A lot of people who think they want to practice law are basing their ambition on some kind of unrealistic vision of what that's like and when they get into it some find they'd rather do something that they enjoy more day to day. So if annoying Der decides to just move on, he'll be far from the only person doing that.

Josh & Anna Smuggar: A Series of Unfortunate Events

Does their nonprofit have a big helicopter now? When they went to the Bahamas, all i saw was a little two-seater! They sort of tried to hide it, but it seemed clear as day to me that that's what they had.....Nathan? flew over in it....and then used it for supposed reconnaissance of where help was needed? I didn't actually look at any picture of their Haiti crusade. So I guess things have changed, eh? And the additional people they're now hooked up with (???) have more experience and money? Baffles me that anybody with actual credentials or money or any desire for credibility would hook up with those clowns! -

Lands 8 times in the rec yard....at lengthy intervals.... It's possible they've got a full-sized helicopter, but I've never seen anything but a two-seater. That'd be a pricey series of trips, fuel-wise. But I guess nothing's too good for the golden boy, is it? -

"We know that there is no circumstance that can cause the church to close," MacArthur reportedly wrote in the letter. "The church is not only a building but is the bride of Christ and exists to proclaim the truth." So, if this is the case, then Johnny M is proclaiming the truth, which means the truth is -- among other annoying things -- this -- (can hardly express how much this pisses me off.) "Women may be highly gifted teachers and leaders, but those gifts are not to be exercised over men in the services of the church. God has ordained order in His creation, an order that reflects His own nature and that therefore should be reflected in His church. When any part of His order is ignored or rejected, His church is weakened and He is dishonored. "Just as God’s Spirit cannot be in control where there is confusion and chaos in the church, He cannot be in control where women take upon themselves roles that He has restricted to men. It is improper [aischros, “shameful, disgraceful”] for a woman to speak in church. That statement leaves no question as to its meaning. "If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home. The implication is present in this statement that certain women were out of order in asking questions in the church service. If they desired to learn, the church was no place for them to express their questions in a disruptive way. Paul also implies, of course, that Christian husbands should be well taught in the Word. "Many women are tempted to go beyond their biblical roles because of frustration with Christian men, often including their own husbands, who do not responsibly fulfill the leadership assignments God has given them. But God has established the proper order and relationship of male–female roles in the church, and they are not to be transgressed for any reason. For a woman to take on a man’s role because he has neglected it merely compounds the problem. It is not possible for a woman to substitute for a man in such things. God often has led women to do work that men have refused to do, but He does not lead them to accomplish that work through roles He has restricted to men. "There are times in informal meetings and Bible studies where it is entirely proper for men and women to share equally in exchanging questions and insights. But when the church comes together as a body to worship God, His standards are clear: the role of leadership is reserved for men."

Climbing and/or soaring high in an MLM is really just another way to say "being fleeced," of course. Unless you're the person who founded the MLM, or one of her three best friends (and even then, it's an open question whether you're being taken advantage of ...) So there she is, spending a bunch of money to get back a tiny tiny margin on it. ....(like -- I only spent this 9000 to "earn" this 10,000! God is good!) And then she spends the tiny margin on knickknacks while her children go unfed, uneducated, unentertained, treated abusively, and clothed in the world's most godawful textiles, bar none. It really needs to be made into an eye-opening horror movie.
