  1. The couple that bought the house in Norman, OK were definitely thinking investment property for the future, even though they didn't say so from the beginning. That house is in a perfect location to rent to students.
  2. We don't even make the lowest 25 in the list in the link below - maybe because our wages are low, too. http://247wallst.com/special-report/2017/01/11/americas-25-most-affordable-housing-markets/
  3. Brookside is probably the trendiest area of Tulsa. It's beautiful with huge trees in the neighborhoods. The only problem with it is it's Tulsa Public Schools. In general, the suburban schools (Jenks, Union, Owasso and Bixby) are better. It's quite common to drive through the area and see several houses on a block in the middle of being remodeled.
  4. I had to laugh when the realtor referred to the 'Baptist Bar'. I'd never heard of that term before but it was completely appropriate.
  5. They said the population of the Norwich area was 1,000,000. Surely they have public transportation the wife could use. I had the laugh when the husband cringed at the thought of a 3 mile drive to the highway. For most of my working life, my commute was 30 miles or 40 minutes.
  6. Well, if you compare 900 sf with the 4,500 - 5,000 sf homes you see now.......
  7. There is a website (http://tinyhometour.com/) that features many much more realistic versions of Tiny Houses as well as the more unrealistic ones.
  8. As someone who lived in a rural area the entire time my kids were growing up, I want to smack these people who talk like living in a rural area is a sentence worse than death. Unless you are stuck without a car, it's simply not that big of a deal.
  9. One of my daughter's neighbors in her new neighborhood was on HH last year. Her story was typical - they had already purchased their home and HH came up with 2 more houses for them to look at for the show. Apparently, the show wanted her to come across as being difficult. She said it wasn't hard to do since she was pregnant at the time but the show didn't want this known until the reveal. She said after 8 hours of filming she had no problem being difficult at the end of the day! I've read that the home owners that appear on the show get $500. What about the owners of the two homes that aren't picked? Do they get any compensation.
  10. Was the Rotterdam couple the ones who moved there with no jobs? How does anyone rent an apartment to people who don't have jobs? I find that very had to believe.
  11. I might have to start watching HH with the sound muted. The people become more annoying all the time - especially the ones that are Christmas obsessed.
  12. I liked the Louisville couple. My favorite house was the third one. I can't imagine having 4 boys in a house with no yard. I wonder if there was a danger of flooding with the third house.
  13. I've never been to Hawaii but I've always contended that people are either 'beach people' or 'mountain people'. I'm definitely a mountain person. A sweaty environment isn't my idea of fun!
  14. I think it makes Vic a more interesting character. I noticed that after the pregnancy test was positive, she had a chance to have a beer and chose not to. Since they've announced that Season 6 will be the last season, it sets up to be a season full of choices for all our favorite characters.
  15. Do the House Hunters get paid for appearing in an episode?
  16. I agree that Walt wasn't very likable this season, but I also appreciate the fact that the writers make their characters three dimensional - like real people. It will be interesting to see what becomes of the Mayor's conversation with Jacob. I think Walt's obsession with Jacob is clouding his judgement. On a scale of 1 - 10 with a 10 being completely evil, I think I would give Malachi a 9 and Jacob a 5 or 6. It will be interesting to see how the writers resolve this and make Walt see the light. He has a lot of fence mending to do with Cady & Henry. Matthias has become one of my favorite characters. I love Graham Greene as an actor - he plays a really good bad guy. In reading the books, I found the history of Walt and Henry's friendship interesting. I wish they would include more of that in the tv series.
  17. I just started watching the show a week or two ago on Netflix. I was quite proud that it only took me a couple of minutes to recognize a very young Orlando Bloom and Tobias Menzies in Judgment Day! :-)
  18. To me, Claire's entire motivation with regard to Frank in this episode was guilt. She still feels guilty for choosing Jamie over Frank. The thought that he might not ever exist because of Jamie's actions would be unbearable for her - and make her fell even more guilty.. The moment that BJR started walking towards Claire, my heart started beating faster - and not in a good way. I seldom have that kind of reaction to a TV show or movie. Tobias simply owns the screen in that scene.
  19. Am i the only one who thinks, "Claire, don't drink that! You're pregnant!", every time she has a glass of wine or whiskey. :-)
  20. I have memory like a sieve. Wasn't a Dr. Hunter mentioned in this book? I took a tour of Westminister Abby and a Dr. Hunter is buried there.
  21. Vic is suffering from PTSD. There is the potential for a lot of good storytelling about her situation.
  22. I finished MOBY last night. After Outlander & Voyager, I think this one was my favorite book thus far. There was a lot of action and it moved along nicely. It was almost impossible to read this one slowly and savor it because I was always turning the page to see what was going to happen next. I began the series in January and it's going to be very hard to wait 2 or more years to find out how Bree & Roger got from 1739 to 1778 and how William comes to terms with his parentage.
  23. Just a thought - suppose the first book of the series that you read wasn't Outlander? I've always supposed some of the repetition was like a recap at the beginning of a TV show - 'So far in our story.....' I know how lost I've felt when I started reading a book and felt like I walked in on the middle of a movie because it weren't the first book in a series and vital plot points were left out. Also, the books were published several years apart. I'm reading them one after another but if It was years between books instead of days, I would need the reminders of what happened in previous books.
  24. I voted in that poll about 20 minutes ago and Cait was behind. She had something like 49.2%. Just now, she has 52.3%.
  25. I just finished A Breath of Snow and Ashes night before last. My mind wanders to the practical issues Bree and Roger faced going back to the 20th century. Bree had sent boxes of her stuff to Roger in England before she left. What did she do with the items she would need to get Amanda the surgery? They had no birth certificate or marriage license so how did they even proove she was their daughter? They returned through the stones in NC. How did they manage to get from NC to Lallybrock? Will these questions be answered in the 7th book? I've never been able to work up the animosity for Bree that other people have. Perhaps it's because I was born in 1946 and she was supposedly born in 1947 or 1948. In 1970, many women were just figuring out that they had options other than being Mrs. (Supply some man's name here). I distinctly remember some arguments I had with my father-in-law over the simple fact that I felt that no one person was 'in charge' in a marriage - that it was a partnership. . Had I been plunged back 200 years in time at that point in my life, it would have been a terrible culture shock for me. To me, Claire fell in love with her 18th Century man and while he was curious about life in the 20th century, he couldn't identify with it. Bree, on the other hand, fell in love with a 20th Century man and he followed her to the 18th. It was much more natural for them to reminisce together about things they missed. Bree lived her entire life as an only child and just as she finds out she had a half-brother, she has to leave him, perhaps forever. I always wished I had a brother. I can't imagine what it would be like to find out I had one but would never get to know him.
