I don't think that type of behavior is allowed or okay anywhere, be it practice or a real game. That being said, when someone says it's "okay" that basically means it's not a violation on the NFL level. Practices, joint or solo, are run by the league clubs, not the league itself. It's up to the Rams to impose discipline to Aaron Donald, not Goodell & company. Games during the season are run by the NFL, so that would be a problem for the 3 time DPOY if this happened in a real game

While it might end up as a situation where Buffalo didn't do their homework, I hardly think it'll be anything anybody thinks of as the Bills try to overcome close postseason calls (as well as make up for the 90s, which would take more than winning in Glendale though a nice start). Unless their punting game sucks! Basically it helps to do a background check but the efforts with that aren't as strong with a sixth round special teamer. As mentioned, it's a case of innocent until proven guilty. Though, for me, it's not. It's simply a suspect until either proven guilty or acquitted. It's doubtful that he's in the clear. Sure it's happened where someone made something up, but that's rare. Plus, several people usually have a positive track record and stick to keeping great company that it would be close to impossible at least for someone to falsely accuse someone. Most good people aren't in the wrong place at the wrong time where they'd fall into negative situations. As for the Aaron Donald thing, that is a little blown out of proportion, in my opinion. Former Steeler & current ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark didn't make a big deal of it either; basically he said that this stuff happens between the same teammates more than you think. In other words, it's not necessarily a Rams vs Bengals thing, but things get out of hand between two men on the same team. To conclude, I don't think the joint practices need to go away, even with this incident. The better way to correct this is for the NFL to step in, if not force the teams to impose discipline. Right now there are no rules against this in practice. It's a different story in a real game. By the way, I don't think joint practices should go away since it might be the big thing going forward if and when the league moves toward fewer to no preseason games (where the only thing that counts are injuries)

He's a rookie so I guess they could boot him given their success without him. However, if the punter is actually innocent then great. If Buffalo doesn't suffer from a financial standpoint, they can sit and have the NFL put him on the commissioner's exempt list. For the record, this crap will continue to happen if the message of "Oh this happened when he was a kid & in the past" precedes "This is wrong period AND there is NO excuse for this awful nonsense!"

I think I'm definitely never putting baseball behind soccer in the pecking order, but I wouldn't say someone's wrong for personally doing so if Major League Baseball went to an East/West format. With that? Whatever, but there's no guarantee a small market team would move separate from a big market. Regardless, Tampa can win when it counts regardless (of whether they're in the same division as New York & Boston), whereas Pittsburgh would stop at nothing to lose whether they're in the same division as St. Louis/Chicago or not. The structure ought to be based on or related to payroll & market. I'd be okay to be fair, if there was a salary cap (and/or floor). Unless Manfred dies, I wouldn't be shocked if this is the system they end up going with, while allowing LA, New York, etc to spend infinity in terms of what needs to happen to make their team better. To be fair, there are a lot of changes that've happened and are slated to happen. Unless Rob quits or exits, it's going to come with criticism. There are some things he's done right or that aren't a big deal one way or another, but man, overall the commissioner needs be better and caring, I suppose

No one here is going to lose sleep over the JOKE conceding defeat here. Some may cite hypocrisy when it comes to these rulings (for example, easing the rules for Major League Baseball and the NBA done around the postseason & at the same time). Then you have the NFL moving toward a pre-pandemic ruling as it relates to COVID. I think things should not be as strict as they were 2 years ago. I feel we're in a better place & spot now as opposed to then. That being said, whether Novak is hated or loved, I have to agree with it. It's one thing to enter the US. If you're not vaccinated (in addition to not being from America or a citizen) then those on Djokovic's side can while all they want. No sense in relaxing the rules for the unvaccinated. If they are already on US soil that may be different, but in conclusion, it's likely apples & oranges between the other sports. Finally, as mentioned, TPTB have the right to control the conditions of its workplace. Or organization. The thing is an accomplished star is missing & that's a hit to the US Open. On the other hand, life is not fair & you have to protect everyone else that did what was recommended

When I used to use Roku on a very regular basis, I had the main connection in my living room, while simply connecting the other devices to a bedroom or kitchen TV or wherever the non-primary television was. Based on one's subscription, they could view the Internet feed off of another television without having to move my Roku device all over the place all of the time. It's a pain, since it was easier to turn on NFLN wherever. As mentioned, I'm used to just simply tuning into the radio version, but I probably will tune into Al & Herbie calling a game together. Speaking of reminders, I don't know what'll take to remember that the season starts in 14 days. It's close by obviously, but it feels like it's a close 3 weeks away!
  7. Fortunately the guy got his "long overdue" win before having to withdraw. It may not be the major win or a win within a "significant event" outside of the underrated Fed Ex Cup Playoff, but it's still a big deal. It still sucks. One more thing about Cantley: while he earned the title last year, it was a tough beat for Jon Rahm & Kevin Na (especially the former). They had a better week but based on the structure, it is what it is. If Patrick wins on Sunday, that would be awesome, especially since he'll have to out perform Scheffler Outside of FedEx news (and inside new stuff coming to "professional golf near you", here's something from Woods & McIlroy
  8. Yes it was. In the main game, they rotated, with the celebrity giving the clues in Part 1, the contestants in Part 2, and then it was optional in Part 3 (usually the stars giving the clues to the players). In the Winners Circles, more often than not it was the celebrities giving the clues. It made sense since several of the stars were familiar with the structure (and smart). They made rather regular appearances, so they could probably give a clue that would make the difference between winning and losing. Whereas today's celebrities aren't as regular, but show up to extend their 15 minutes, need a buck or two, and/or are promoting something
  9. Yep. For the most part; not all the time. Certain celebrities like Nate Cook received; if you were playing with Betty White or Henry Polic, and you wanted to win the game, you weren't giving the clues when the player had the choice
  10. The verbatim thing was more a Match Game thing, specifically Super Match. However, it was close enough for the 80s version (though for a $100,000 cash prize, the response would be exactly what was on the board to qualify; usually it was simple enough to get it & not complicated like "Things a Hamburger would write"). So, in Super Match, it had to be an exact match, and in the past, cheap answers were not getting you anywhere in the Winner's Circle. Speaking of the past, rr2911. One correction: Clue - What a hotdog would say Contestant Celebrity - I'm a wiener in a bun and I have mustard all over me Celebrity Contestant - The response from the celebrity would be " What a hotdog would say" IMO, I guess there may be a link toward giving more simplistic responses in today's game

The Steelers Thursday selection is sorta favorable. It's a road game, but very early (4 weeks from tomorrow). It's against Cleveland so it's not a big deal if I skip it. Even if it were on real television, I'd probably listen to the radio broadcast and not even have the TV on. At worst, you could connect your computer to the TV. If you have HDMI or any other proper, legal devices, you could get the feed onto your television set
  12. IIRC, on the 80s version, someone passed immediately without even attempting. It was the fifth subject, not the first or second ones. I think there was time to go back where the move ended up successful. I don't ever recall bailing so early and on both of the first two clues. That's basically giving up, or not, but if you can't get the first ones then it's not happening for the contestant. If it's a new strategy, then great, I guess. It's an awful one

RIP Len Dawson. I saw post/tributes earlier this month & thought it was over for him at that point. It was I guess, but apparently the reports from his family was that he was in hospice. It was a matter of when. I assumed he died as I didn't read that tidbit. Just the stories and what not. Definitely one of the coolest photos there.
  14. The good news from the Fed Ex Cup: Patrick Cantley has a chance at history. With a win this weekend, he'd be the first back-to-back winner of the cup. The bad news from the Fed Ex Cup: No Zalatoris The ugly news from the Fed Ex Cup: None unless you were planning on playing but not before participating in LIV. The bad news is that Will will forgo the Presidents Cup. It is what it is. He's Tour bound, but I hardly think he'd have any shot against Scottie and/or Patrick for the title. To add to the good news: Cantley already made history for his defense in a segment of the playoffs. Since Day One, no one has even won in the same location they won the year before
  15. To say $1 Million is nothing would not be a smart statement. However, it's not as glorified in 2022 as in the past. To be hones, $10,000 is nice in 2022, but seven figures just isn't the prize worth leaving one's regular career. With great investment, people keeping regular jobs might be better off, while getting something extra coupled with early retirement

They do. They're currently the first team out & about a game and a half back from San Diego. I think the former has played 3 fewer games though. Then there's San Francisco, who's the second team out, but Milwaukee does have a decent chance to get in
  17. I guess the Open and the US Open, like the Masters, has the right to control the conditions of their business as well. The PGA Championship isn't as glorified as in the past IMO. Whatever works best for the other majors would be okay going down the road. I suppose the qualifications can change to target LIV players, but as mentioned, if it's set in stone, then I think it would be unfair to keep them out. I might not care, personally, but there's such a gray issue here. As for them missing the Fed Ex playoffs. This past week was pretty great without them

That reminded me that there was a GRONK special for the UFC preliminary stuff on ESPN on Saturday Night. I was watching early on but soon after the 9:00 hour hit I got too focused on Phillis/Mets & forgot to switch back before the Main Card on PPV. Thanks NUguy. I probably catch that myself instead of taking it with a grain of salt (though I did say doubtful & not "no chance"). If Rob said it was close, then I believe it (as valid). One may not have since he was retired (and I think still under contract with New England). Jon Gruden isn't a total moron for nixing it if so. He's still salty over what happened one Saturday night in January 2002
  19. Technically it isn't, but that's really because past players, seconds away from the Winners Circle, answered 1 or 2 to clinch. In terms of a team in regular circumstances, it's close to unprecedented; really rare, but I've seen people win by default due to flawless play vs total disaster

That was probably between questionable and doubtful. It was possible given the location, coupled with the fact there were several fairly decent teams those two were seeking (in addition to Tennessee and Indianapolis). I don't think it was or led to anything since that meant going up against Mahomes twice, while staying in a conference with Burrow, Herbert, Lamar, and Josh Allen. Not that TB12 and Gronk couldn't defeat all of that competition. The AFC hasn't been this damn good in a long time, and really, wasn't during the Pats dynasty. Actually, the AFC was inferior to the NFC for over a decade & a half before the Broncos double that preceded Brady's NFL entry. While Tom and Rob may have conquered whatever staying in the AFC (or maybe in New England), their eventual route to Tampa was the smart one. Complete roster, NFC, fairly easy competition within division, and then they avoid the AFC gauntlet

It's so ugly with DeShaun Watson that SNL is saying no thanks to a Progressive segment with the topic being "At Home With DeShaun Watson"

Basically it means he needs to seek treatment & get help. The guy has to show signs of remorse & control because what he's been accused of doing is a problem. Help is available; rehab exists for those that have issues, and they seek that care out to fix & recover what issues one has. The thing is he is being forced to do it, and that's fair. DeShaun has shown no remorse whatsoever, but the league is making him feel sorry for his actions whether he wants to or not

Doubtful. Houston is a glorified mess. No one's going to care about either one of those teams (at that point). Just bet no in term of flexing that game to Sunday Night. Best bet of the year. If it's wrong, so be it, but the league is not going to boot Colts/Cowboys in favor of Texans/Browns. As mentioned, $5 Million isn't nothing, but it is unprecedented. It would target his Houston deal instead of his future Cleveland one, and sort of create a 17-game / full year suspension (and he sat out by choice of course)

So much for the NFL not wanting Watson to play against the Texans. Which sorta made no sense. If they didn't want that, it's a year-long suspension. Despite everything, it's still "good for business" to have a great player up against his former team, but man, it's the first game back
  25. I'll be honest: I'm looking forward to it all (re B1G deal)
