Married olicity is basically the same as season 4A olicity imo, like living together and being happy and stable only this time with rings. And Thea and Oliver had a ton of scenes during that time as well as Thea having a lot of her own stuff too.William is the only difference but I doubt that's such a big one considering they can't really do that much with him that would displace Thea.Like I can't imagine any of the scenes Thea and Oliver had replaced with William because they write the kid incredibly shallow. The one thing he could take away from her would be the role of the kidnapped victim for Oliver to save but that's not really a great role for a character anyway so not much of a loss imo.
-
I think Thea would always be needed as his family regardless of Oliver being married and having a kid because well a sister is different and Thea is unique in that she has been his family since season 1 and she's also a link to something non toxic from his pre island life.I really don't think olicity getting married or even the newbies are a reason for her getting written out,imo it's all bts stuff whatever that is.

Target Practice: Poisoned Arrow (The Bitterness Thread)
tangerine95 replied to slayer2's topic in Arrow
It probably would have gone over better if season 5 didn't introduce so many of them so fast.I mean there was Curtis(who was a newbie to the team and a different much more annoying character all of a sudden),Evelyn,Rene,Rory and Dinah.Just a crazy amount of newbies and they kept most of them.I don't think it's going to work,at least for me if they don't find a unique role for them because they're all doing the same thing rn.Curtis I think is hopeless and the most unnecessary. His skills are basically what Felicity does and he's done nothing but take away from her skills, his fighting isn't that great either and team arrow doesn't need a hardware guy on a regular basis which is why he barely ever deals with that.He actually had a unique role working with Felicity because we don't have a lot of people on the outside of the team who aren't masks and it makes the world of the show feel small. With Dinah I guess being a meta is unique so she has that but it's not something arrow should really have imo.But I was hoping a unique thing for her can be finally including some female friendships on the show and she could have bonded with Felicity.Instead they stick her with Digg to basically have the same conversation every episode of season 6 so far. Rene has potential when he's not being an asshole and he could be the more traditional sidekick role and someone Oliver can sort of mentor. He does come a across as more annoying version of season 2 Roy. -
Target Practice: Poisoned Arrow (The Bitterness Thread)

That might also be because they weren't planing on these characters even showing up at this point. They've had bts issues with team arrow in the sense that actors left and all that.Like I think they planned on Roy being a permanent part of the team so he got the slow development and introduction to the team or planned on Thea eventually becoming Speedy so she got the slow development too but then CH left and there's clearly something bts with WH getting a reduced episode count. So now they have to introduce characters to be part of the team this late in the shows run and they likely are told which masks to include because higher ups want those masks visible and it's kind of a mess. But I think that's also on them not knowing how to handle it and deciding pushing them down people's throats is the way to go.As well as insisting on storylines that are basically the newbies rejecting the sidekick role and wanting to be equals to characters and dynamics that have been around much longer which makes no sense. -
Laurel Lance: Black Canary, Black Siren.
tangerine95 replied to Lisin's topic in Characters of Arrow
I do think the reason people expect or fear a redemption arc is because it's KC.If it was a random actress I doubt the expectation for that would be so strong. But I also think people expect a join team arrow and become a hero redemption which I really don't believe will happen and that even if they try to redeem her it would be more of a Slade or Malcolm type thing where she's outside the team and not really considered redeemed but maybe helps them at some point because it serves her own interests at the time.I don't even see that happening even tho you never know with this show because they just put a lot of emphasis on her enjoyment in killing, like unnecessarily big focus on that multiple times and the crossovers kinda made it a point that doppelgangers shouldn't be viewed as the same as their E1 versions. It would be a lot to go from that to redemption on the account of a sob story that doesn't sound unusual or that different to what any other characters went through and managed not to become a psycho with no remorse towards killing innocents. -
I'm fine with her interacting with William but it doesn't make me excited or anything. The kid is still a bad actor and the family scenes with him don't do anything for me even tho I think he's better with EBR than with SA.I'm guessing both Oliver and Felicity will have stuff with him when the inevitable drama from Oliver lying to him about being GA happens. I hope there's more for her than that and that her company stuff that's coming up is more than drama with Curtis.

Yeah it's so weird to me that the show usually frames Oliver as in the wrong when I think he's right and sympathize with him and as in the right when I think he's being a jerk lol.Like when he came back in season 4 and the team acted like assholes towards him even tho I thought he was being totally reasonable and even nice but it was supposed be that he wasn't being a good team player. And when I basically almost hated him in season 5 for being a huge hypocrite about what Thea and Felicity did to Susan that was supposed to be him being some beacon of morality. I'm honestly not sure if we're supposed to see him as in the wrong here tho.Because that scene with Thea had him acknowledge the hypocrisy about being angry and also has Thea point out he never sold anyone out no matter his mistakes and then it ends with him deciding to forgive. And I'm not even sure if we're supposed to take Rene and Curtis not listening to his orders as the wrong call or not.I think it was a dumb move that helped nothing and no one and seemed to come out of them being pissed at OTA and wanting to rebel like little kids. But who knows what it's actually supposed to be.
-
Yeah that's true,I didn't even think about how Rene gave that speech knowing he would send Oliver to jail and their happiness won't last long.Like that's horrible.I doubt they thought that one through tbh but wow. Honestly a lot of the newbies are coming off as just kinda pissed that they're not taken seriously enough or something.Reminds me of Laurel and her scenes claiming Oliver doesn't trust her and see her as an equal while yelling about being BC and him being GA in a public hospital hallway lol Especially with Curtis and Dinah.Curtis legit has no reason to be mad.His reasoning seems to come down to being pissed he didn't get his happy ending and the team he threw his marriage away for isn't as fun as he expected.Dinah is just being hypocritical and instead of admitting any fault she immediately went on the defensive. And they're both completely ignoring anything wrong Rene did and how that affected Oliver and are just siding with him with no issues at all. They seem to have very little loyalty to Oliver.

The Starling City Times: News and Media about Arrow
tangerine95 replied to Grammaeryn's topic in Arrow
I feel like reviewers are so used to Oliver being blamed for stuff and his trust issues being a problem that even when he's not wrong they're going with it's his fault lol I don't get the sense the show tried to make Oliver the one in the wrong.I think they want the everyone did something wrong but had a sympathetic reason kind of thing. -
I seriously thought for a moment BS was about to kiss Lance when she leaned in to tell him to run. That was so weirdly shot and acted,I was creeped out lol I feel like she's playing him because they seem to be doing the same thing with Dinah and Vigilante.I also think if that was supposed to be some kind of prep for a redemption than it's unbelievably lame.I mean okay her dad died, that's sad but how does that explain her enjoyment of killing people even when she doesn't have to?I don't think that sob story is even close to enough to make someone who is shown to be that cruel, seem redeemable.Like nice she can't kill one guy who looks like her dead father but she still didn't have an issue and enjoyed killing like 10 people since she showed up.So I hope they don't even try with that.
-
I'm guessing Curtis and Felicity will have issues with working together. They had them even before the team split so this will make it worse. And will Rene still testify against Oliver?I might have missed if they addressed that part but I don't see how he got out of it
-
He was kinda pushed into it by Felicity for Curtis and Rene,I don't think he wanted a team of strangers tbh even tho he got used to it and accepted them.Dinah was about granting Laurel her last wish for the team to have a BC,I doubt he would have went looking for her if not for that.I mean yeah that's on him because he added her but I think it all leads to Oliver having weaker bonds with all of them and a trust that's much easier to break like we saw in this episode.

Finally got to watch it and I liked the episode. It wasn't the most exciting midseason finale but I'd take that over the character assassinations of last season ep 9.I'm glad they didn't force a cliffhanger for the sake of it tbh. The reception was amazing,it's nice to see the characters having fun and just being friends.Olicity were so cute.I loved Oliver being nervous she wasn't there and then the looks they gave each other when Felicity walked in.Their first dance was everything I wanted and the song was perfect for them. They somehow manage to look more in love every episode, idk how.It was nice to see Donna, her scene with Oliver was so funny.I also liked that she called Noah back,I always felt her sending him away was hypocritical as well as making decisions for Felicity and made me like her way less.I only wish we got a Noah Felicity scene tho but I think we'll see him again this season when Cayden James starts going after Felicity more,at least I hope so.Curtis was a mess and so annoying. Not even his toast,I thought that was funny but because he's acting like the team is to blame for his divorce when he literally begged to be a part of it even when Oliver was against it and then chose it over his husband. I was actually sympathetic to Rene for most of the episode because he did show regret and guilt but he screwed up at the end. When someone gives you such a clear chance it's unbelievably dumb to go and let them down again so I get why Oliver was done. I loved Oliver this ep and how he dealt with this.I feel like he reacted a lot more strongly to this betrayal because he has a lot more to lose now and is looking forward to the future so the idea of jail freaked him out in a way it didn't in season 3 or even 5.I mean sure spying on his team mates isn't nice but like when you weight it against jail for life it's a clear choice. Imo the newbies vs OTA makes sense because one is a team added a year ago unwillingly by Oliver and one is the team he built over years with people he chose himself and has the strongest bonds with. It's unrealistic to expect that group to merge well.I kinda loved how he didn't give a crap about all of them leaving when whenever Felicity or Digg even hint at that,he's basically falling apart lol Also another reason I think the new team sucks and has issues is because they don't have actual friendships like the show bothered to build for ota when they were starting out as a team. The newbies bonded with each other but Dinah only bonded with Digg, barely with Oliver and we never see her in scenes with Felicity.Curtis bonded with Felicity but Digg and Oliver still look pretty annoyed with him to me.Rene seems like he mostly respects Oliver and Digg but kinda ignores Felicity.Unless they make an effort to make them all actually feel like friends while maintaining the established friendships as well, the team won't inspire much investment.Which is why I'm hoping they stay away forever and hate that it won't be about that.I'm holding out hope that at least one, preferably Curtis quits forever.

Social Media and Behind the Scenes: AKA Everything Else Not "News and Media"
tangerine95 replied to Zalyn's topic in Arrow
I agree that it's kinda weird how they all jumped on this to defend him when there's been way worse examples of hate they ignored.I don't think he meant for his answer to come across as the fan accused him of,imo it was kinda poorly worded because he was caught of guard or something. It could be that they're all extra sensitive about the topic and Rick was the first one asked about it in a interview and it seems at least judging by SA's tweet that they already had experience with this particular fan that made them defensive. But I do think it's kinda too much. -
I don't think it's a real issue or will be brought up again and I don't think the intention of the double wedding was to make anyone involved feel bitter.Imo whatever writer wrote that line is someone with the mindset that Iris is the bride and her spotlight was taken while completely ignoring the context of the double wedding. But imo even if you want to say Felicity was rude which I don't even think she was,it's still a worse look to make Iris so focused on a wedding that she would be bitter after what they all went through during the crossover.Even ignoring the part about Felicity, was she seriously returning gifts from people who were attacked by nazis at her actual wedding because they weren't what she wanted?
-
I think it makes Iris seem petty and superficial tbh.Because actual nazis interrupted her wedding and she and Felicity spent episodes fighting them and protecting each other, you'd think she would be less concerned about wedding etiquette at a ceremony in a park after a funeral that she wouldn't even have if Felicity hadn't suggested Digg.
-
I wouldn't have been pissed if WA interrupted olicity the same way tbh.Because if we got long vows and then WA took a minute after they were done to get married too,I would be focusing on the vows instead of that one moment. The wedding wasn't even my favorite olicity moment anyway as much as I loved it.I preferred the reunion hug and kiss in the suit.I wouldn't have traded places with WA tho but not because of that last moment, more because I preferred a emotional build up to the wedding like olicity had instead of their stable anchor couple role in the crossovers.I like that kind of good angst like we got,I think arrow does that really well when they don't try to drag it out beyond all logic.
-
Yeah I don't get why it had to be nazi stuff.I don't think they humanized it as much as I worried but it was still weird especially with nazi Oliver.Like what purpose did that serve at all to show he cares about Overgirl?Felt really like a random thing just for shock value of having MB and SA kiss, like I expected it to be. And I don't think MB and SA did a good job at the nazi versions tbh.SA was so wooden and flat, worse than season 1 Oliver at his worst. But it actually helped me be less disgusted in a way because even tho he has Oliver's face,he was so robotic it wasn't like watching a real person at all.MB I thought just did awful at playing evil.Just so campy and flat out bad most of time time. She was better as Kara this time than the last time I watched her which was the musical flash episode. The only one who did a good job was PB,he was believable and actually scary in his scenes.
-
I never thought it was supposed to be that WA heavy tbh.Maybe it's because I've been watching for so long and I'm basically used to their promo almost never reflecting what actually happens and what's the focus in an episode.Plus we had the interviews that made it clear it was going to be a love theme for the crossovers which meant multiple couples so I figured we'd get a lot of olicity as they had the most story to cover.I get being disappointed with the lack of WA scenes but I really think that was just because they didn't have conflict in the episodes at all as opposed to olicity.I mean I'm not really a WA shipper but imo they could have cut the totally pointless Nazi love story and gave that screentime to WA,I sure would have preferred that.
-
I don't think this can even be judged in a real life context because it's not even close to it which is why it's weird to me that some people are treating this as a normal wedding and Felicity got up in the middle of the vows in a full church, got next to Barry and Iris and got married as well lol In the actual scene Barry and Iris clearly don't care about a ceremony anymore. They want to just sign a paper and be done with it but Felicity convinced them to make it more personal and suggested Digg.It couldn't have been a more informal wedding. They were done with the vows when she interpreted and literally a line was left for their wedding to be done when Felicity and Oliver joined. So really not seeing in this particular situation what's so rude about what Felicity did.
-
I really don't get this idea that Felicity and Oliver did something bad or inappropriate by getting married like they did.I honestly get it from a shipping perspective in the sense that no one wants another couple marrying with your ship.I would probably be disappointed if we didn't get so many great scenes leading up to it,if we didn't have the fake wedding in 4.16 and the reception next week. But from a character point of view,I don't think it makes sense. It's not an ordinary wedding in any way. Before the ceremony in the park, olicity and westallen just fought literal nazis from another world, they saved and protected one another during it and it wasn't even the first time. They have shown to be supportive of one another's relationships all throughout their friendships and especially in the crossover. So this idea that Iris and Barry should mind that Felicity and Oliver also had a in the moment wedding alongside them after they all almost died and it was a improvised ceremony with no one else even there, strikes me as so petty tbh.
-
Literally,it wasn't a difficult choice at all.At no point did the show made it seem like the team can't go on without Curtis or that his quiting would result in any consequences. At the time he let his marriage fail he was so bad at fighting he kept getting beaten up and ending up in the hospital. He had no reason other than he likes feeling like a hero to continue doing it.And of course the ever present because comics reason. Especially when he had the option of helping people with his inventions considering he can cure paralysis.
-
Doesn't sound to me like they want to make OTA the bad guys,I think they tried to give everyone understandable reasons.I'm with OTA because they could literally be wrong and I'd be fine as long as they get more scenes and I get a break from the newbies around them all the time. But I think they tried to give Rene a sympathetic reason why he did it and I kinda feel bad for him but still Oliver was right to suspect and it's still a betrayal.Curtis sounds obnoxious. He ruined his own happy ending to be the least trained, most unnecessary mask on the team and his motivation seems to be because it makes him feel good.It sure wasn't that the team couldn't do it without him so he has no one but himself to blame for this.Dinah is keeping secrets so she can't really say much imo. The reception sounds amazing, can't wait.I've wanted an olicity dance since season 2. I hope Felicity gets some solo scenes with her dad.
