  1. The most recent moment that really stands out was seeing Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant with a very realistic looking judo based hand to hand fight against a large killer and being able to hold out long enough for back up to arrive.
  2. Judging by his performance in combat and physical strength I am betting that while not as practiced as a 12 year old lord that physics would trump over finely tuned technique. I think Lady Mariko explained that Lady Fuji remained behind in the fishing village to close up the Anjin's affairs there. I for one didn't want to see her mourning her grandfather
  3. Truly, though she stopped over in the Philippines she hasn't converted to Catholitism. And even there many of the Chinese Filipinos and those from the northern Luzon provinces wear white in this social situation
  4. I think that normally, having seen more TV PG characters than movies, the cowboy hands a loaded pistol for the guy to euthanize himself. But that is how 1950s up audiences would see it. I would think stabbing yourself would leave the victim more like a horse than a gut shot cowboy. More realistic war movies of the era would show that Korean War or WWII soldier euthanize a mate. Added to the scars shown when he was washed when watching Anjin fight for the first time with his rapid reloads during combat that wasn't his first rodeo.
  5. TV distribution was a very different thing back then. I had just started school and I wasn't giving that much time to something I had little interest in at the time. And the only way to enjoy a show like we do now is to invest in VHS tapes and dedicate to the show above the 2 other network shows for that week. And then the Japanese wasn't subtitled until a later VHS release so we only understood what Lady Mariko translated. I can only really remember the stuff around the gardener, Lady Fuji and the bird. But I now know some of the real history that formed the basis for the fiction.
  6. I think it is pretty sure that she wasn't actually there. But rather due to the house cleaning when Kate showed up mom was on Janey's mind. I have to admit that I wasn't seeing mom as a Doris McGarrett. With the line about losing her looks, which she hasn't, I was thinking more the war bride/mail order bride stereotype that once in America that wife of the soldier or junior NCO is all of the sudden getting men of higher social rank going after her and would be trade up. Leaving that sailor in this case, or 90 day fiancé petitioner in the lurch. So unknown siblings is more like Steve and Wo Fat than another spy in my thinking.
  7. I do wonder how much can depend upon the audience knowing the novel, the 80's miniseries or the story of their historical analogs?. We were shown him killing Buddhist Priest. But then again we saw Lord Omi just summarily execute a Christian for coming up to Blackthorne in the first episode and random call up for prisoners to be executed. So the Oda Nounaga character, Lady Ochiba's father, didn't look any more nuts than other samurai.
  8. In bringing in the Armenian princess in the flashback and the wake perhaps more than her having the toy car should have been done to remind us. I do remember back in that first season that Nadia's biggest concern didn't seem to be Arman's mistresses, but rather he was getting seen publicly with a cleaning lady and not a visiting heart surgeon.
  9. I don't see where this is supposed to go. After 25 years Ramona kidnaps her nephew and is running some kind of double game on her own cartel? And Thony is going to take her down
  10. Unless Toranaga airs it out in the finale I doubt if we get much more than the earlier flashback scenes of showing Lord Toranaga in Lord Akechi's ear much like Lady Ochiba was later in Lord Ishido's. That manipulative power seems to be Toranaga's super power
  11. I would think that Lady Ochiba used her influence to stop the Regent from showing up along with anybody else of proper rank to second Lady Mariko. That the lady hostages of the court and her son sat there sure made it look like she was going to stab her heart and not go through with the disembowelment. Standards and practices, the star not wanting a body double for nudity or the custom for the women of that day? I don't feel like researching. So if we are to believe she was going to go through with her mortal sin for the cultural tradition that she spent her entire life and not just her adult life living with then Blackthorne, not as easily influenced by the ranking samurai was the only one willing to limit her pain as much as possible.
  12. I get that SERE students would have their headgear stripped off but giving the conditions you think all those agents would pack and wear their hats.
  13. Blaque. I spent the episode asking myself did those two women actual dress like that everyday to find out one is now a "Real" Housewife. Stetsasonic. Frukwan, still holding a grudge that your verse did not fit an anti apartheid project.
  14. The city mouse/country mouse ship on New Orleans being the only one to get me. I mostly dropped the show after Shalita Grant's Special Agent Percy left to join the FBI.
  15. Technically speaking a NCIS franchise. Just tag in new actors on occasion and it runs like a soap opera.

    S01.E08: Camden

Forensics, for a missing person? Do you think his county is made of money.
  17. We get Casualties of War, only instead of a chaplain and JAG going for justice that Michael J. Fox, in the form of the Gunny, did it himself. I was suspecting the Lt Col as soon as he showed up alone and staked out Janey. He reminded me of a retired Marine father on The Closer whose scout sniper son went on a Punisher like vengeance mission and the father decided to handle matters himself like the Gunny did here. Janey coming out of her concussed dream talking about finishing the story made me think of Wrestlemania of all things where that was the storyline. Was thinking about the runaway mom, or her surrogate in Maggie the actual point? Sam in the field probably took the big guy Boone's role in the finale fight. For the investigation phase, your big so prior service CID or NCIS had me thinking that I still think of Noah Mills as a Special Forces medic on the short lived series The Brave. Now if that bartender didn't know what to make of super fed Kate, what she would have made of tiny Lucy?
  18. I think Lord Ishido fell into the trap. Lady Mariko's mission being to show that he was not following the law in order to peel off the clans that might have been loyal to the Taiko's heir and the council. While it seemed that his fiancé Lady Ochiba was another who desperately wanted to tell someone enough of this ritual suicide, live. To the point where the archers try to scare her back after sniping the honor guard commanders as they stepped forward to relieve the last fallen samurai. But maybe Lord Ishido was mad enough to kill because his plan A was spoiled. Unless another party got Lord Yabushige and the ninja. A lord publicly agrees to second you and then doesn't show up? I wonder who would be seen out of favor? The 2/5th's nominally Christian leadership can claim the faith but how would the others see it Getting a better view of the castle to me it seems that there is just too many interior walls for even the Dutch canon to make a difference. Breeching the first one doesn't get you anywhere except into the next kill zone.
  19. Sounded like they Brady bunched as teens to me
  20. They would have to flip it for the DA's DEI score purposes
  21. That was Detective Bashir? In any case everybody seemed a decade too old for this story. And the simple I was in the 3-30 Marines in the Gulf seemed easy enough to crack. I guess I should have read that footlocker stenciling, did Elliot steal a Marines identity? And exactly how did little brother afford that apartment but take the ready cash from his safe and he is already resorting to stealing from his family to feed his addiction
  22. The Korean Navy had a large role in cutting the Taiko's supply line in the Japanese attempts to take Korea
  23. Not knowing exactly how forces are organized Osaka is the realm of the Taiko and as leader of the council Lord Isidro has some say there. With the "bandit" attacks he took some responsibility because he was supposed to protect the home of the heir. But beyond an Honor Guard would the other Regents have forces in Osaka or would they be at home like Lord Toranaga's were in Edo, when being ordered to Osaka to surrender and have the senior leadership to kill themselves
  24. The premise of The Closer was that the LAPD, and by extension the County DA was losing big cases like O.J. so they brought in the specialist who crossed ever T and dotted every i and made her a Chief to do a Lieutenant's job. Given the decisions that Law & Order New York Supreme Court judges have made over the decades maybe the the 27th needs a Chief Johnson around instead of the Lieutenant Dixon so drawing a bad judge doesn't cause the ADAs to twist.
  25. When we heard the defense's motion I remembered the first episode of The Closer when their new Chief made those experienced homicide detectives stop and get a search warrant before processing the crime scene.
