  1. Someone please get on this! Just not whomever was in charge of this adaptation, because it had none of the charm, warmth, heart, etc., of the original Sullivan productions. My god, what a bore. I'm not too upset because it just seemed so lazy. It's what I would expect to see in a cheap, straight to DVD release. I'm just going to ignore that this thing ever aired.
  2. Looks like IMDb was updated. It currently shows her being played by Kathleen Rose Perkins. So I hate Boris Kodjoe's character more and more each episode, which is really annoying.
  3. I'm feeling the absence of Christa and Neal--I really liked them, together or apart, so I'm really annoyed that Mario survived to douche another day and Angus is more useless than anything. Why is either one still here? Why couldn't Mike replace poor bumbling Angus? I guess my main issue with this show now is that so many people are annoying to me. Angus, Mario, that 13 year old shark bite victim, the crepitus victim when she complained about the actress doctor, Boris Kodjoe (sadly). It's to the point where every shot of Mario and/or Angus annoys me, whether they're saying/doing anything or not. I'm pretty much here for MGH, Mama, Rob Lowe, and Charlotte (the latter two being on probation for the moment). I don't know what's in store for Mike, but I'm hoping he wakes up and returns to work with no issues. I have to say, Mike falling out of the helicopter like that is totally a page out of Grey's Anatomy's book. Not that I'm particularly complaining, because I do get a kick out of Grey's anatomy. I recognized Colin from Everwood as the groom. I'd lost track of him completely.
  4. So I'm just getting into this show watching the reruns and I'm really liking Christa and Neal. I guess I'm two months too late to the party, but their firing kind of blows!
  5. I think one of the biggest differences is China's medal performance, which is way down from London.
  6. Ato referenced the actual rule affecting the US/Brazil situation in yesterday's NBC broadcast. Wonder what the reasoning was for the Canada/Japan decision and what kind of argument Japan made.
  7. I feel like this is really unfair to Phelps. None of what he did was during the Olympics and none of what he did caused an international incident. At the end of the day, Michael Phelps' issues were mostly self-destructive (and thankfully no one else was hurt by his drunk driving). And no one's going to cause a flap over a baby out of wedlock if the two are devoted to each other and plan to get married (which they most definitely have covered). Lochte's issue right now seems more self-serving and dishonorable because of his ego, self-absorption, and idiocy. He also helped get three of his teammates in trouble and seems to have been the ringleader in falsifying the story and playing up his role as a badass in the face of a gun. Up until now, with the grill and the hair and the dumb comments, he's been harmless and fun for most. Once he accuses the police of robbing him and plays on the host country's very real, very serious issues, it gets ugly for him. Unless he can truly come clean and make amends somehow, I don't see him being welcomed back by many.
  8. Ouch for those Australian swimmers. Seems a bit harsh for the one who apparently just failed to notify the team manager. Regarding the donation to the NGO, I actually like that idea. You mess up, you help a charity. You hopefully learn a lesson, and disadvantaged kids benefit.
  9. If Solo is going to step away at the end of the year, it's probably best to let her retire from the NT without any more drama. Good lord, the scandals with that one are so embarrassing. I'm getting set to watch Brazil and Canada and I'm interested to see how each team fares when Brazil isn't afraid to "get fouled" at any sign of contact and Canada seems to be a bit more aggressive. Or am I just overstating my very simplistic impression? I usually just follow the USWNT. Anyway, I wouldn't want to be any team playing soccer against Brazil. Looking forward to an interesting game!
  10. Jordan Burroughs just lost in the 74kg quarterfinals! I don't know anything about wrestling, but I liked him from the last Olympics.
  11. I don't feel responsible but I'm fucking embarrassed for them, and a little for my country. Look at all the people willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, defending them against Brazilian police, etc. For every Abbey D'Agostino being a more than decent human (along with New Zealand's Nikki Hamblin), there seems to be a Lochte (and his swimmer friends) who ruin any goodwill.
  12. Did it just swing into her lane, or did the Brazilian runner's arm actually hit Felix, causing her to stumble? I thought her arm may have hit Felix. Anyone know where can I watch this rerun heat?
  13. If this is true, this goes way beyond laughable sex idiot territory. This seems like legacy tarnished, ugly American territory. GD.
  14. My reaction if Lochte's story is garbage: I was hoping we could get through an Olympics without an American embarrassing themselves. Hope Solo's comments now seem tame in comparison.
  15. If beach volleyball weren't on, do you really think handball, of all sports, would be on? You can't please everyone, I suppose! And beach volleyball had a fraction of the coverage swimming and gymnastics had (and that's not me complaining at all, I enjoy all three).
  16. I was just thinking Ato Boldon is a damn gift. Sanya Richards-Ross was also pretty interesting in the little I heard from her.
  17. I don't know why I find that so fascinating, but what kind of reporting do you generally see for that?
  18. That's kind of a baffling comparison. The situations are obviously different, and I would assume most wouldn't appreciate the comparison, as it seems to dismiss very real problems.
  19. So is anyone else watching Canada/Germany? Canada is playing in their aggressive style, but I think Tancredi just took out the goalkeeper when the goalkeeper had clear possession! Kind of crazy.
  20. To me, it's really only disrespectful if that's your intention and if you were 100% aware of protocol but ignored it. I feel like Gabby has represented the US well, so cut her some slack. Also, if the social media responses were more about being helpful and attempting to let her know protocol indicates this, that, and the other, it would feel less gross to me. As it is, and considering other stuff people have directed at Gabby, I say leave it alone. Let her enjoy her damn medal. Also, you'd think Olympians would get some training on this if it were a problem. Is there anything like that pre-Olympics?
  21. Aw, I thought it was cute and a nice tribute. I can't think of anything better to play off of the five, and I really like that they decided it themselves. Ladies taking charge and whatnot. Phenomenal Five and other suggestions were just too obvious. It also works double for me because of the meaning behind it. You're not just remembering the team, you're remembering that this is Martha's final team, etc. I think the Fierce Five were originally called the Fab Five, but that was previously taken by a famous University of Michigan basketball team, so some of them came up with Fierce Five on their own. Did the 2000, 2004, or 2008 US teams have a nickname?
  22. Through all the adoration and criticism, I'm just sitting back in awe of Phelps' career. 20 gold medals, my god. And that race was so damn exciting. You can't deny creating a heel in Le Clos made for a fun race!
  23. I've seen a few games pop up in my tv listings in the last couple of days with non-US teams like Brazil, Spain, etc. (and to be fair has only played two games each for the men's and women's teams, right? 4 games really doesn't seem excessive). Here's to hoping the games will get more competitive in the later rounds. The skill of the players makes it interesting to me even against comparatively amateur teams, so I'm not really complaining about that. I just feel bad for teams that go up against them. That must be so disheartening. Someone on NBC actually brought up the idea of using college kids again instead of professionals, but I don't see how that can be done unless other countries also only go with amateurs, perhaps something like soccer where an age limit is imposed. Spain, France, etc. (even Australia!), also use NBA players, though of course the teams aren't entirely comprised of NBA players so there's no comparison. Even so, apparently the Boomers have the best chance to knock off the US. Didn't know that! I can't think of any other sport where teams are just blown out in the preliminary rounds, with only 3-4 teams being competitive. I know an argument against softball being in the Olympics was the US winning all the gold medals (though it's coming back for 2020). Is there any chatter at all about the same happening to basketball in the near future?
  24. That's exactly where I am. People can be cynical and call him overhyped or oversold, but he's Michael frickin' Phelps. I want him to get all the medals! It makes me sad to think that I won't be seeing him swim in four years.
  25. So is there a consensus on best dressed country? I have to say I thought the Indonesian flag bearer's top portion was beautiful, and the man and the woman in the fancier getup behind her looked amazing--I thought NBC would explain what was going on there, because I'm a clueless American, but it was amazing regardless. Great Britain was a disappointment until I saw the back, which I thought was pretty cool. Italy and France were confusing, considering their famed sartorial sense. Canada's outfit was mystifying (but I saw some approval online, so what do I know?). Germany's was depressing. Australia gets a bad rap, but I didn't hate the jackets. The Barbados outfit for women was really cute. Botswana looked classy as hell. And poor Ireland and Sweden! I know people are bemoaning the Ralph Lauren polo horse, but I saw a prominent EA7 logo for Italy, a Puma logo for Jamaica (at least three of them!), etc. And I'm really glad we've moved away from the depressing Roots era (which also prominently included its logo, which was just ROOTS based on pictures I've seen). I didn't hate the outfits, though I think Ralph Lauren has done better in the past. I think I just like the preppy yachting look, because South Korea was also a big hit for me.
