I am not a huge fan of the movie. I hated how Daniel was treated and perhaps it's my general ambivalence towards Kurt Russell and James Spader but I just didn't find it to be enjoyable. Had I not been forced by friends to watch it then immediately watch CotG I may have never gotten in to the series. I was hooked after CotG, hoakey reproductive lines and all. I immediately took to RDA as Jack and Shanks as Daniel and was excited to see a woman who looked like a woman playing the lead female. I'm looking forward to re-watching season 1. Some favorites: The Enemy Within, The Nox and Singularity.

I think I benefited greatly by watching the series so far removed from the original airing. Not knowing that RDA was 'over' the show, and was flying to CA every weekend I always viewed later seasons Jack as mentally exhausted and physically drained. I also didn't know RDA was dealing with illness, or leaving the show and by the time 200 rolled around I was shocked at how "bad" Jack /RDA looked (due to RDAs health issues). They immediately showed us Jack was a great leader who respected his team. His debates and exasperation with Daniel always seemed to come from a place of respect even if he didn't agree with the premise. I am also of the the school of thought that Jack knew more than he let on when Daniel and Sam would ramble in scientist speak. You can't become a Black Ops / fighter pilot / seasoned officer and be dumb. Dark!Jack was always my favorite. Even though RDA wanted TVJack to be lighter than movie Jack he still conveyed a man with demons who saw and participated in some serious shit.

BkWurm1 the lake with no fish is a reference to Jack's cabin and the lake not having fish. He doesn't use yahsureyoubetcha unless I goad him into it but I did a literal choke on my beer the first time he used Holy Hannah.

Beyond punching Ba'al and Maybourne, you are an idiot every day of the week; why couldn't you have taken a day off?! my favorite Sam moments are any time she is being a strong, capable person who happens to have reproductive organs on the inside (I couldn't resist). I love Sam's adult-daughter interactions with Jacob. The delicate balance of their working relationship and their dad-is-still-my-dad, except when he's Selmak relationship always struck as true to life.

DanielJackson may be my favorite character (though BB won 'teh prettiness' when Cam came along IMHO). Shanks nailed the sense of horror Daniel had while witnessing the damn distasteful things Jack and the military does. Despite becoming jaded and cynical he was still horrified at the brutal actions required even when he had to do them himself. I don't think Spader could have pulled that off if he had been Daniel in the show. I think she loved him like a really good friend, but never in a romantic sort of way - he did remind her of why she started breaking the rules and of her humanity. One of my favorite Oma moments is The Pegasus Project where she appears as one of the many Atlantean form holograms to answer questions and reveals herself to be real. "You have your answer Daniel Jackson. I suggest you act on it."

So much word! stillshimpy. I prefer my SciFi to be fiction with the pipe-dream of reality. A real life Stargate, a worm hole to an alternate universe, traveling to galaxies and establishing deep space bases in our lifetime would be amazing to witness. The Aschen plan (and to some extent, the Ori dominance) could happen. The Ori scared me too, for similar reasons. They were so evil, just beamed wherever they wanted to go and it was Hallowed are the Ori or die. Looking at what's going on in Russia, it doesn't take much for a powerful group take what they want. G'ould weren't scary. You could hear them coming from a mile away. Clang clang clang.

Favorites in no particular order: WOO - for so many reasons. I love Jack's slow descent into insanity, the KISS, and the ability they have to go from campy humor to gravely serious. Threads - deep down I am a S & J shipper. At least for this moment. Evolution 1 & 2 - I love dark story lines and I loved learning more of Jack's history and seeing him in his Black Ops element. Enrico Colantoni nailed it as Burke. The Other Side for bringing assumptions we make about others without hearing both sides of the story to the forefront. Shades of Grey - RDA was brilliant playing off the under-cover operation and making you wonder if Jack really did go off the reservation. 2001 and 2010. The Aschen were so, so evil and it's one of those story lines that could happen in real life. Anything with Maybourne I hated anything with Sha're. I know the actress was married to Shanks but to me, there's a glaring lack of chemistry between them as Sha're and Daniel. Hated Wormhole X-treme. Hate, hate, hate it more than I hate Hathor.

I think season 9 should be "Battle of the Butts" We have Daniel's butt, Vala's butt and Cameron's butt (which I am a big fan of. Too bad there was no excuse for BB to wear leather pants in SG).

I love(d) Saving Hope (because I will watch MS in anything, anytime) and am livid at NBC for pulling it off the air in the States and for the producers not making it available via other methods. I need me some Michael Shanks! That prank clip cracks me up every single time I watch it. I wish RDAs face was clearer to see his reaction. I loved the MacGyver meta, especially in 200 with the Team America (fuck yeah!) puppets. I read that Sam was supposed to hum the MacGyver theme in the elevator during one of the "Pete" episodes but couldn't get it right.

I think we should let the masses congregate and from glancing over there it seems a lot of people are waiting for TVWoP to turn out the lights before migrating. I'd rather wait a few weeks unless our masses show up early. But that's just my opinion. What do you think?
