  1. I also liked Marsha Mason.  I know that she's a long time, celebrated actor, but I know her from Frasier!  She's so cool.

Alexandra Wentworth, the wronged neighbour -- just adding this because I didn't see it discussed, she is "Schmoopy" from Seinfeld and George Stephanopolous's wife.  (If anything happened in a 90's sitcom, you can bet that Ms Blue Jay knows about it!)

The rest... I mean...anything besides the guest stars..... just  F*** it.  (Though of course I like Luca).

    Loved your post meisje!

  2. I think Dakota Johnson is really special.  She's extremely appealing and funny in both Ben and Kate and 50 Shades of Grey.  I was so excited for 50 Shades of Grey but the male lead Jamie Dornan is just....... so there.  Nothing charismatic, sexy, dangerous.  That's where this franchise really missed the mark unfortunately.  But Dakota Johnson makes the movie watchable and even funny.  Great comic timing.

I think Meryl Streep's daughters are so beautiful (as I think she is)!   They're all mini versions of her. I'm such a big fan of Mamie Gummer from The Good Wife.  She's so talented and appealing in my opinion.

  3. I really liked the porn sketch.  It was actually turning me on.  Adam was so funny in it.  And Adam and Beck had chemistry.. haha... sorry.  Butt I saw it.

The Football sketch, I was laughing so much when Kenan had both a bible and a gun in his hands and was looking from one to the other.  Hahaha.

The undercover boss sketch was genius.

I really liked Adam in the Golden Globes sketch; he threw his whole self into it.  It was a lot like that Natural Born Killers-esque sketch they did around Christmas.

There was a lot of Cecily.  It's weird to see so little Kate after she was so amazing in the Ryan Gosling episode.

I was really happy that Fred Armisen got such an ovation.

  4. Football delayed the show half and hour or so (I don't remember exactly how long).

It's a really good show though.  Adam Driver is extremely good at this.  You can tell that the writers have full faith in him as he stars in every sketch.  Pretty good writing; I've seen no awful sketch yet.

I even liked that song "Parachute" by Chris Stapleton.

Does anyone know the haunting song playing in the Golden Globes sketch?

My one complaint is that Michael Che kind of mumbles -- he said "Colin" a few times this episode and there's no way I would know what he was saying if I didn't know Colin's name.  It was so garbled.

  5. What do you think about what Lexi Alexander writes about this issue?  She has tried to join and is refused entry.  Even though she is an Oscar nominee.

    Lexi Alexander ‏@Lexialex  Jan 14
I'm an Oscar nominee & have tried to join the academy since I was nominated (they won't let me in). Now I don't care anymore. I'm disgusted.

  6. He had no interest in acting, only directing.

In 2015, Savage returned to acting with the Fox series The Grinder.[6] Producer Nick Stoller approached Savage about playing the role of Stewart on The Grinder.[6] Savage was uninterested in acting at first but agreed to meet with the producers of the series because his children attended school with Stoller's children.[6] Savage eventually agreed to take on the role.[6]

  7. Here's the Cast and Characters list from Wikipedia:

Big Little Lies is an upcoming American television comedy series created by David E. Kelley, based on the book of the same name by Liane Moriarty. The series will air on HBO.[1] The pilot episode was written by Kelley. 7 episodes will complete the limited series' first season and all of them will be directed by the Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée.[2]

    Cast[edit]
    Nicole Kidman as Celeste Wright[1]
    Reese Witherspoon as Madeline Mackenzie[1]
    Alexander Skarsgård as Perry Wright[3]
    James Tupper as Nathan[3]
    Shailene Woodley as Jane Chapman[4]
    Laura Dern as Renata Klein[5]
    Adam Scott as Ed Mackenzie[5]
    Zoë Kravitz as Bonnie Carlson[6]
    Kathryn Newton as Abigail Mackenzie[5]
    Iain Armitage as Ziggy Chapman[7]

I like how they cast Zoe Kravitz as Bonnie!  Bonnie is a tattooed, cool, pleasant, hippie, young second wife so that's some nice casting for diversity.   I expected Perry to seem way older than Alexander though.....

Just to give you what I expected:

Celeste is supposed to be otherworldly beautiful, so I guess I expected a Charlize Theron type.

Madeleine is kind of the protagonist, she's very confident, goofy, and cool so I think I expected a Sandra Bullock.

Jane Chapman is supposed to be an incredibly young, plain mother so I expected a young Lori Petty type.

I'm only a quarter of the way through so I don't know much about the character of Ed, but Adam Scott is always great.  Picturing Adam Scott and Nicole Kidman as a couple is a little funny though.  I guess I shouldn't complain about super young men being cast, when normally it's super young women!

  8. "Last Night", "Pride and Prejudice", "The Jacket", "Bend it like Beckham" are all Keira Knightley movies I really enjoyed and I'm promising to even give Star Wars 1 another chance. Some people seem to have a bias against 'romantic movies' whether light or dark like the way some people hate country music, but romantic movies bring joy and happiness to a hell of a lot of people, including myself.

I am currently reading "Big Little Lies". It's light and kind of goofy, reminds me of British comedic books like the Bridget Jones books but I believe it is Australian. I am enjoying it.

To the child star discussion, Mae Whitman was great in The Duff. The Duff and Magic Mike XXL were two of my favourite movies this year. For anyone who likes light comdies I'd suggest The Duff, it is too cute. When Jimmy Fallon was laid up in the hospital he watched it a bunch of times and tells everyone.

To the Keanu Reeves discussion, I really like "Something's Gotta Give" and he's charming and hot as hell and convincingly plays a doctor who is in love with Diane Keaton. Must be seen to be believed. Also see "Speed" and "The Lake House". He's a movie star period.

  9. I have trouble paying attention to this show.  Terrible attention span.  I'm guessing from all your comments I missed very little.  That doesn't speak well of the show.

  10. Thanks sinkwriter and others who answered my question.   I don't even remember this apology video and now I think I have missed an episode.

The character of Charles is BORING.  At least Josh seemed dynamic, but now they're writing him as a total flake.  That's pretty much how I feel like guys in their 20s are, but last season he was never like this.  (I'm echoing some comments upthread!)

I find this show fun and a little close to home as my husband is 12 years younger than me, we meet when I was 35 and he was 23.  At least I didn't have kids then, so it was at least a bit easier for me to seem younger than I was, though I never lied about my age.  Yeah, the little age comparison jokes get tiring, especially now that I'm 50 and he's still in his 30s.  I'm fortunate that my hair hasn't grayed and my skin is good, so the age difference isn't too noticeable.

Hanahope you are living my fantasy.  You need to write a novel; fiction or non-fiction who cares, it will SELL!  :)

Something funny is even Previously.TV does the 3 dots after I make a post (showing that it's loading).

  11. I'm on the side of hating when Harry shows off; sorry I don't care for it.  Not the reason I watch the show.  Keith also shows his technical knowledge but in a way that isn't obnoxious.  For me there's a difference ; Keith is actually trying to pass on knowledge.  Harry gives off such desperation to just be 'heard' whether it's a point, a joke, whatever.  It would just be more appealing if he cared less about how much attention he's getting.

I find it so funny that somebody so laid-back (Hawaii girl) can actually offend people, but hey I can't judge people's reactions.

  12. None of my favourites except Kini.  How strange.  It's almost like they don't want us to watch.

Even trying to be diplomatic, besides Dom, who would attract eyes to this?  I think I kind of liked Alexander?  Though not really his designs.  And I remember Fade being a huge hit here.

    It will premiere February 11.

Asha from UTG was a complete and terrible asshole.

  13. I love love love the show, so don't get mad, but I saw this plot of woman dates her ex-husband's new wife's father (as fucking specific as it is) on New Adventures of Old Christine.  Though, at least Mom played out the plot in a completely different way.  I'll never stop being bitter that that show was cancelled.

Allison Janney is just playing the shit out of one amazing character.

  14. I usually don't care about/for the 15 year olds but the female who J.Lo kept implying looked old and the blues guy - I really enjoyed their auditions.  The Blues guy was really different and cool I thought.  I'm fine with them putting him through for interest's sake, but they also have to do that with non-cute-young boys too.

Saying things like "Get a vocal coach to help you answer some questions" and "You do a good job of hiding your influences" are just mean and don't actually help her.

You know, you're right, and yet this is exactly why I miss Simon.  I was like, finally, some biting commentary!  I had been missing it.  What can I say, it makes me laugh.  I appreciate when people have accurate self-reflection of their skills and weaknesses, because I fear being embarrassed, I think.

  15. 2 hours?  Mother of....

I've cried like, 6 times.  And never because of a "sob story" but rather it's been a natural reaction from these manipulative but clever editors.  I have to admit that I think that this has been pretty good television.  The latest time I cried is a country guy with a wife and kid and they kept playing damn Hozier's "Work Song" in the background.  Very touching.  It's when Harry started making fun of him for declaring all of his possessions, which I have to admit WAS funny and I never say that about Harry.

Then there was some other guy who's father cried when he got a golden ticket?  That's going to get me crying every time.

The boy who does Tangercize or something, and danced to J.Lo's "Get Right" was so adorable.  He lost 60 pounds!

The Denver Nuggets guy was really cool, too bad about the result.

Just saw J.Lo reject that beautiful Hawaiian chick.  People have posted about J.Lo having a bias against beautiful women before..  Could not help but notice this.  How many times has she cooed "Oh he's sooooo cuuuuuuuute" throughout a male audition and sending the boy through without even listening to the performance.

    Good show.
