  1. Arrow, if not all the DC Comics shows, also had the very openly gay Scottish-American actor/singer John Barrowman (MBE) as Malcolm Merlyn. I don't think the character was gay, though. I don't/didn't watch Arrow, but I know about this because I'm a fan of John Barrowman's from other stuff he's done (& his social media videos, especially on his Facebook, are a hoot).
  2. From EW.com: A Now-Polarizing Recurring Character Returns in the April 13th Episode
  3. I was watching stuff online & came upon this: It's a (brief) analysis and critique of the show's editing choices, which the content creator calls the show's weakest part.
  4. If you need Tru Calling to come back &, I presume, finish a storyline, then I need Las Vegas to do the same. It was unexpectedly cancelled after 5 seasons, in the middle of a cliffhanger.
  5. This question about the thread crossed my mind last night (considering how long I've been posting here, it took its sweet time): Whenever I post here, I pretty much post about completely brand new things on the market that I've tried--which I thought was the purpose of the thread, based on my interpretation of the title. But I think other people have posted about products that at least some people here might already know about (because of living in an area where said products are test marketed before being released nationally, or for other reasons) but are new to the poster involved. While that wasn't my first interpretation of the thread title, I can see it now. So, I'm assuming we can post about products that are either totally new on the market or we can post about products that may be new to some people here but not to others.(?)
  6. From the Honolulu Star-Advertiser: A very nice feature interview with Beulah Koale, who joined the cast this season as former Navy SEAL Junior Reigns. Five-0 Role Capped Breakthrough Year for New Zealand Actor Beulah Koale
  7. The next new episode airs Friday, March 30th. I started the episode thread for it, & for the following new episode, which is scheduled for Friday, April 6th, earlier today.
  8. Danny's ex, Rachel (Claire van der Boom), is among the guest stars/recurring characters in this episode (along with her & Danny's son, Charlie; their daughter Gracie is MIA, however). Rachel has the last name "Hollander" in the ep, according to the cast list. So either we're gonna see Rachel in scenes that supposedly took place back in Jersey before she & Danny were married, or else Rachel's divorce from Stan is final & she had her maiden/birth name restored as 1 of the things she asked for in the divorce. I think it's interesting--& I actually like--that they came up with "Hollander" for an apparently maiden name for Rachel. This is because (& I dunno if it actually had anything to do with that, or not) Claire's of Dutch (Holland) descent in real life, having the last name "van der Boom". So it fits, & it's a nice nod if it wasn't happily coincidental.
  9. From The Hollywood Reporter: Will & Grace Renewed for Revival Season 3, Overall Season 11 of the Show The upcoming second season of the revival/season 10 of the series overall, & the third season of the revival/11th overall season--currently scheduled for Fall 2019--will each have 18 episodes, which is up 5 episodes from the order for this current first revival season/overall series season 9.
  10. Neither does "the Cancel Bear" show cancellation/renewal predictor at TV by the Numbers.
  11. From Variety: Perdita Weeks Cast as (the Now Gender-Swapped) Juliet Higgins in CBS' Magnum P.I. Reboot From Deadline: Zachary Knighton Cast as Rick in CBS' Magnum P.I. Reboot
  12. CBS hasn't announced yet if Hawaii Five-0 is being canceled after this season or if it will return for a ninth season in the Fall of 2018 (when, presumably, Peter Lenkov's other reboots, MacGyver & Magnum P.I., would also have timeslots on CBS' Primetime schedule--perhaps they could schedule all 3 shows on the same night). Since it's March, that announcement could come anytime between now & when the season finale airs (presumably in May); sometimes they announce the renewal decision right away, & other times they leave the show's announcement until it's practically the last "veteran" show they haven't announced the fate of. Despite having lower ratings since it was moved to Friday nights (It was moved, after S2 ended, to accommodate the summer run of another series in its original Monday timeslot & was never switched back to Mondays afterwards), combined with Peter Lenkov's (currently) second reboot MacGyver, & Tom Selleck's show Blue Bloods, about a family of NYC cops, with the only female in the family being a prosecuting attorney, the CBS Friday Primetime shows have won the Friday night ratings for most, if not all, of the time Hawaii Five-0's been airing on that night (S3-Present). I will say this, for whatever reason (the departures of Grace Park & Daniel Dae Kim, & the additions of Meaghan Rath & Beulah Koale--a guy, despite the name; he's from New Zealand--as new members of Five-0, the elevation of Ian Anthony Dale's, Dennis Chun's, Kimee Balmilero's & Taylor Wily's characters from recurring to lead status, complete with the actors' names in the main title sequence, or something else) the show is enjoying its best ratings this season, possibly since the first season aired. That bodes well for renewal. And at least some of those sites which attempt to predict which shows will be renewed or canceled each season have had the show listed as "a safe bet" (to be renewed for next season), or whatever terminology they use to say the same thing, pretty much all season--which is something else that hasn't happened since Season 1; in seasons 2-7, the show wasn't given as high as "a safe bet" status until right before CBS actually announced the official renewal, & it had "languished" at a "could go either way" type status for most of those seasons until officially being renewed. So I guess we'll see what happens, or doesn't, as far as a renewal goes. My feeling is they could work it out to do both the Magnum reboot & Five-0 at the same studio at the same time, if necessary (like schedule each show at the studios on different days of the week &/or different times of the day, if need be); besides, at least Five-0 seems to do a lot of local location filming as opposed to in-studio, which could help with sharing studio space with Magnum.
  13. From Variety: Perdita Weeks Cast as (the now gender-swapped) Juliet Higgins in CBS & Peter Lenkov's Magnum P.I. Reboot She has appeared in Penny Dreadful & The Tudors, among other works. And... From Deadline: Zachary Knighton to Play Rick in CBS & Peter Lenkov's Magnum P.I. Reboot He previously was in all 3 seasons of Happy Endings & had a recurring role in Parenthood.
  14. Dot-Marie Jones, who played Coach Bieste in Glee, is apparently (a) lesbian. She married her longtime girlfriend, actress Bridgett Casteen, in 2013. Dot-Marie's wife subsequently suffered a life-threatening stroke due to a hole in her heart, in July, 2017, which she will need (& presumably has already had) surgery to close.
  15. It probably was Rob Lowe, at least based on circumstantial evidence. But I can't remember, for sure, if there were any problems between Sorkin & Rob on the set. I know Rob didn't get a raise that he was promised, at 1 point (I think it was supposed to have been before S3, as I remember), while Allison Janney (excuse me, "Academy Award winner Allison Janney"; I hope she's gotten used to winning it in the last week), John Spencer, Bradley Whitford & Richard Schiff had their salaries raised, almost doubled, before S2 after they all either staged a walkout or threatened to. This article, from People magazine's archives, says the same 4 were supposed to receive 5% raises in subsequent years of the show (which I didn't remember). But I do remember the same 4 tried the "give us raises, or we're walking out" tactic, from the beginning of S2, again at the beginning of S4. And again they were rewarded for their collective strongarm tactics. I also remember Rob supposedly wasn't thrilled when the cast became more of an ensemble, than having him as the male lead (as originally intended), after NBC & "the suits" saw the Pilot & decided they wanted Martin Sheen, as President Bartlet, to be in the cast for the full season instead of President Bartlet being the recurring character he was originally intended as. But I think he probably did like working with Martin Sheen, as Rob's family had actually been neighbors of Martin's family when Rob's family originally moved to California after his parents divorced. In This 2005 Interview with London's Radio Times, Aaron Sorkin Says He'll Write Another The West Wing Episode If Rob Lowe Would Do It . And Rob said the only way he'd do it would be if Aaron Sorkin wrote it. At the time of the interview, Aaron Sorkin & Rob Lowe were in London working on a West End theatrical production of Sorkin's play A Few Good Men, in which Rob played the part Jack Nicholson played in the movie.
  16. It does look like Janel in profile, though whomever it is is not quite in focus since Jennifer Aniston & whichever male "Friend" she was apparently supposed to have been with in the scene--& it's hard telling which guy "Friend" it is since all the guys in the cast had dark hair, & we're seeing the guy from the back--are the focus of the scene. I think whoever it is is holding whatever they're holding with a Janel-like mannerism, too. But I looked at the filmography section of her IMDb page & her Wikipedia page, & neither has an appearance on Friends among her credits. They also don't list a Friends appearance on her credits as having been done under a different name, or as being uncredited. If they have that kind of information about a role, they use it. Maybe she did it & just doesn't list it among her credits? I don't know why she wouldn't though, if she doesn't; I mean Friends was the hot TV show for quite awhile. To me, I don't think it would be an embarrassment to anyone to have a Friends credit among their work. Janel has an 8 minutes older twin sister, Carey. She & Carey also have an older sister, Meeghan (that seems to be a popular name/in the news a lot lately, what with Prince Harry about to marry a Meghan; & the new female lead, for all intents & purposes, on Hawaii Five-0 being named Meaghan, with an extra A in it). Does anybody know what Janel's sisters Carey &/or Meeghan do for a living? Since Carey's her twin, if she's an actress too maybe it's her, & not Janel, in the background of that scene. Or, depending on how great a family resemblance there is, maybe it's Meeghan. Since there's no Friends credit on Janel's filmography in 2 different sources (though 1 source may actually provide the info to the other source), that's all I have to offer.
  17. An article on Hawaiian Airlines' website, about the 10 Most and Least Classic Island-Inspired Drinks, includes the Hawaii Five-O, a classic--according to the article's writer--which was created during the original run of the show (hence the letter O instead of the number 0 in the name), using the ingredients listed under the drink's name (though exact proportions/amounts used are not given). It's described as "a twist on the Blue Hawaii, omitting the vodka & being poured over ice into a highball glass". The blurb which talks about the drink, & is listed fourth from the top in the Classic Twists section, also says that there's a variation on the original drink (a "reboot", if you will). It further says that, "since the Hilton Hawaiian Village served (Have they dropped their promotional consideration contract again? The article appears to be relatively new, as opposed to a holdover from when the Hilton wasn't the show's "hotel partner" for awhile a few seasons ago.) as the hotel partner to the new incarnation of the CBS hit drama, Tropics Bar & Grill serves its version using Absolut Raspberry vodka, with Blos Blue Curacao, sweet and sour, and strawberry puree."
  18. No, if he went to India it'd be a thing because he didn't bring Zoey with him. Just saying.
  19. From his Wikipedia page, here's a list of nominations & wins Sorkin has had in the Academy Awards and similar awards, in the "run up" to the much heralded & revered Academy Awards. Scroll down to the "Accolades" section; sorry I couldn't create a direct link. Considering Steve Jobs won at that year's Golden Globes for Adapted Screenplay, you would've probably expected it to have won the Oscar, as well. That's the way it usually happens: a win at the Golden Globes usually means said winner will also win the Oscar in the Oscars' counterpart category. But... it also helps if you win some of the other awards you're eligible for (like Allison was probably a "lock" to win the Oscar by the time that came around because she had won pretty much every Supporting Actress award she, & the movie, was eligible for before the Oscars/the Oscar nominations came around, &/or she was predicted to win the awards involved before the Oscars). That's what probably helped bite Sorkin in the ass, where Steve Jobs was concerned: The movie either got nominated & didn't win (like at the BAFTAs & the Critics' Choice Awards), or it didn't get nominated (the Oscars), though I'm still trying to figure out why the Academy didn't nominate it; especially since it won the freakin' Golden Globe (which is supposed to be the biggest predictor of a probable Oscar win).
  20. I posted an update on the medical condition of Ruthie Ann Miles, among other things related to the hit & run which killed her daughter & the son of a friend; left Ms. Miles, who's 7 months pregnant, initially critically injured; & left her friend & another, unrelated, male victim less seriously injured in the Media thread. Among the highlights: Ms. Miles has been transferred from the ICU & is "healing"; the family, or someone on their behalf, posted to Facebook that (thankfully) Ms. Miles' unborn baby is "safe". Her friend & the mother of the other child killed in the event is still hospitalized, & in stable condition. The driver involved still hasn't been charged, but she faces possible manslaughter charges according to the New York Daily News. NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio said the driver involved should be jailed & he wishes she was under arrest right now. He further said that what happened to the children was "terrifying", & it should never happen again. In the interest of full disclosure, DeBlasio & his family live in the same neighborhood (Park Slope, Brooklyn), not far from where the incident occurred, & Mayor DeBlasio & his family have also used the crosswalk involved--so this situation may be/probably is much closer to home, & is more emotional, for the Mayor than other, similar, incidents in NYC. What's less clear is how much of a personal relationship he & his family already may have had with the families of Ms. Miles & her friend, given that they're all from the same neighborhood. I would think Mayor DeBlasio has at least met Ms. Miles in their current professional capacities, as the current NYC Mayor & a Tony Award-winning Broadway actress. The article says the GoFundMe account opened to help cover the bills, expenses, & other costs incurred by Ruthie Ann Miles in connection with this tragedy has more than reached the original $5000 goal set when the account was started; at the time the linked article was posted online, more than $390,000 had been donated. As perhaps expected, a number of account donors are from the Broadway & Hollywood communities; among the celebrity donors was Keri Russell.
  21. From Hawaii News Now, the news website for multiple local Honolulu TV stations owned by the same corporate entity, here's an update on the recovery of Tony-winning actress Ruthie Ann Miles, who was critically injured in an apparent hit and run yesterday, with a friend & a man not known to them less injured, while the women's 4-year-old & 1-year-old children were killed. Ruthie Ann Miles has apparently been transferred from ICU, & is said to be healing (presumably at least physically...I'm sure the emotional/psychological injuries will take longer--BW); thankfully, there appear to be no problems with her second/current pregnancy. The family says the unborn baby is "safe", in a Facebook post. Her friend, the mother of the other child killed in the accident with Ms. Miles' daughter, is apparently still hospitalized in stable condition. The driver involved hasn't been charged with a crime, but she faces possible manslaughter charges, according to the New York Daily News. Meanwhile, NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio, who happens to live with his family in the neighborhood involved (Park Slope, Brooklyn), & has apparently used that same crosswalk involved in the accident before, along with his family, said he wishes the driver were under arrest; he further said what happened to the children was terrifying & should never happen again. (Personal Opinion: I may be wrong, but I feel like this case has hit the NYC Mayor harder than usual because it occurred in his neighborhood, at a crosswalk apparently not far from his family's home, though I haven't seen or heard anything about whether or not he actually personally knows the families involved--I somehow would bet he might know Ms. Miles, since she's a Broadway star & a Tony winner.) Regarding the GoFundMe account set up for Ruthie Ann Miles, the account has apparently more than reached its initial goal of $5000, set when the account was opened; as of when the linked article was written & posted online, more than $390,000 has been contributed. As expected, a number of those in the Broadway & Hollywood communities are among the contributors, including Keri Russell.
  22. Awhile back, we were talking in another thread (I think the Media thread, for whatever reason), about a TWW-related T-shirt that was available online (I think from the UK). It was what most merchandise sites with similar shirts call a "list" T-shirt--the graphic/message on the shirt is a list of items which have something in common which is not stated on the shirt. In this case, it's the last names of the main characters on TWW. Only the T-shirt, in its original form (other online shirt stores have subsequently copied the original shirt), didn't list (Will) Bailey, (Donna) Moss &/or (Charlie) Young, though at least most of the versions subsequently sold by other online shirt stores do list them, usually as the last names on the list, & I got a shirt from 1 of those sites, because I thought it included more/all of the main characters (& I'm saying "Bartlet" on my shirt counts for both Jed & Abbey because the name is only listed once & both Jed & Abbey should be on it--other "list" shirts, however, will separately list multiple people with the same last name). Besides only mentioning "Bartlet" once when, in my opinion, they could've/should've mentioned twice, & separately, which I noticed awhile back, it didn't dawn on me until I started writing this post that another, at least originally important, name was omitted from the T-shirt: (Mandy) Hampton. She was even left off of the shirts which included Will, Donna, & Charlie. I don't know why I didn't notice that right off, or quickly, as many times as I've seen the original shirt & its subsequent versions. Admittedly, Mandy wasn't my favorite character (or many people's), but you kinda have to feel a little bad for her, that not only was Moira Kelly, the actress who played Mandy, released from her contract & her character, Mandy Hampton, was written out of the show without an explanation after S1 (we say she was sent to "Mandyville"), her character was only included in/on (mostly officially licensed by NBC/Warner Brothers) TWW merchandise (mostly companion books) that was released before S2, plus the S1 DVD's which came out in late Fall of S2, & the subsequent legal digital downloads of the series that are available at certain sites. As far as I've seen, Moira & Mandy is/are nowhere to be seen on any T-shirts, or other merchandise, from online shops which include what's supposed to be the full cast. In some ways that makes me feel a little badly for Moira/Mandy.
  23. OK... I just now got around to checking what Sorkin's 2nd Oscar nomination was for. He's been nominated 3 times in the Best Adapted Screenplay category, winning once. He was nominated, & won, for The Social Network in 2010; he's subsequently been nominated in 2011, for Moneyball (which is the 1 I forgot the other day), & this year (2018), for Molly's Game.
