  1. Yes, according to the Press Release linked at the beginning of the thread, Robyn Lively played Helen Meech (I think that was the character's name).
  2. Probably because Uncle Vito said he had been talking with the guy about Danny at some point, presumably & logically, before Danny was shot about how Danny used to be a cop in New Jersey & had moved to Hawaii (it appears Vito may have--presumably, hopefully unwittingly--told the shooter generally how to find Danny before he was shot).
  3. And here he is, as Jumba Jookiba, in a scene from some version of the Lilo & Stitch franchise--only you really can't tell it's him with Jumba's thick, (probably Eastern) European accent:
  4. Aww man... I was just watching a M*A*S*H marathon, from the Winchester years, on WGN America before I read the obit. The ep that's on right now is the 1 where Margaret & an old friend/boyfriend are accused of being Communist sympathizers by a Congressman's Aide on a "factfinding" trip, & she's being threatened, by him, with having to testify against her friends at a hearing of the House Un-American Activities Committee (which would mean certain public embarrassment/professional ruin for Margaret & her friends) if she won't turn her suspected friend(s) in before the Congressional Aide (who's a real smarmy sleaze) returns to Washington. The obit was written nicely, but I found 2 rather glaring (to me) errors in it. Throughout, M*A*S*H was written with a 4th * after the H; there are/were only 3 *'s in the title. And, at the end, when they were talking about his voice role as Jumba Jookiba in various productions that were part of Disney's Lilo & Stitch animated franchise in movies, TV, DVDs, video games, I think at least 1 Disneyland ride, & other products, etc., they cut out the first part of the quote they used from the original Lilo & Stitch movie. As I remember, that movie didn't even include Stiers' character, Jumba Jookiba (the alien scientist/creator of Stitch & at least 625 other "experiments" before Stitch, aka "Experiment 626", & perhaps others after Stitch/626... I forget). I don't think Jumba was introduced until the animated series (which I think aired on ABC) started. The quote was supposed to have read, "ʻOhana means 'family'. 'Family' means nobody gets left behind or forgotten." The first sentence is important if you know, like I do, that this franchise is set in Hawaii. The Hawaiian language word for "family" is "ʻohana", as it says in the first sentence. As I remember, though it's notable from the original movie, the quote about ʻohana/family is a recurring theme throughout the franchise & related products.
  5. From Variety: Previous Oscar Winners Jennifer Lawrence and Jodie Foster Will Replace Last Year's Best Actor Winner, Casey Affleck, As the Presenters of This Year's Best Actress Oscar (Actress Frances McDormand, a Previous Best Actress Oscar Winner for Fargo, Is Apparently the Frontrunner, for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri). The linked article also says Jane Fonda & (Dame) Helen Mirren will be presenting the Oscar to this year's Best Actor winner, instead of last year's Best Actress winner (Emma Stone). The apparent frontrunner in the category is Gary Oldman, for Darkest Hour. The list of presenters for this year's Oscars in the linked article does include Emma Stone, last year's Best Actress, so I'm wondering why she's apparently not presenting Best Actor this year, as it's been tradition for as long as I can remember.
  6. Meaghan Rath is interviewed in the March/April 2018 issue of Modern Luxury Hawaiʻi magazine (on pages 78-79, if you can get a print copy from 1 of your local major chain bookstores; the issue should be out now), her photos are also on the index page of & on the cover of the same issue. Tap on the article to increase the page size; or just look at the pic next to the article & read the text-only version, which is easier to read, & (I think) to adjust the print size of, if needed. Among the things she talks about is, she says Scott Caan (& apparently some of the camera crew/the Director of Photography) is teaching her photography using a film camera (she'd only used digital before). She also said Scott had shown her some of his photos, & she complimented his work. I think all the links finally go where they're supposed to. If they still don't, let me know. By the way, when I posted the link to Meaghan's CBS Watch! magazine interview (upthread) I forgot to mention an interesting tidbit of info I found out there: Tani's troubled brother, Koa, is also apparently supposed to be her twin.
  7. She (Republican PTA mom) & another lady were the lookouts during the robbery. I think the other lady was either still in prison for her part of the events, or she was on parole but threatened with being sent back to finish the rest of her sentence if she didn't help Jack & whichever ADA he was working with that season (Abbie?) finally put the Republican PTA mom in prison for her participation after however many years in hiding. You haven't quite got the line she (or the other lady) said (I've seen this ep enough to have that part memorized). The line was actually "Pig at three o'clock."
  8. I was curious where Ensa was in the birth order of the Cosby children, so I consulted her dad's Wikipedia page. If the birth order of Cosby's real children was the same as the Huxtable children--2 oldest girls, the only son, the youngest 2 girls (or if the birth order of just the girls on his Wikipedia page is the same as the Huxtable girls, which I think it is since they list Evinn, the Cosby daughter with the "male" name, last & Rudy, the Huxtable daughter with the "male" name, was the youngest fictional daughter--then that should make Ensa Cosby the daughter who became Vanessa (2nd youngest Huxtable daughter) in The Cosby Show.
  9. So... Late last night/early this morning I was watching videos of different things online at that site where most people watch this kinda stuff. Among the things I watched was part of an interview appearance Jack Lord did on the old (at least mostly daytime, I think) talk show The Mike Douglas Show, which was syndicated from 1963 to 1981. I'm not exactly sure now if they mentioned the year of the interview, or not, but I'm reasonably sure it was done towards the beginning of the original H5O's run. Anyway, from the interview part I watched, I learned something I didn't know, which is actually an interesting coincidence with something else, the latter thing being connected to the modern version of H50 (which is why I'm mentioning it here instead of in the Small Talk thread). During the interview, Mike asked Jack about his wife/family. It turns out that Jack Lord's wife, Marie, studied fashion design & was apparently actually a designer when they first met & married. In fact, she apparently made most/all of her own clothes, & she also made a lot of the clothes Jack wore on H5O, including a blue suit Jack Lord's McGarrett wore a lot on the show. I had never heard that before, about Jack Lord's wife. I think it's interesting. Especially since Alex O'Loughlin's wife, Malia, is also a fashion designer & Jack Lord & Alex O'Loughlin each play(ed) McGarrett in their respective versions of the show--though Malia Jones O'Loughlin seems to concentrate on designing swimwear/beachwear & related items, while it sounds like Marie De Narde Lord designed most other types of clothing. I think the coincidence of the actors who play(ed) McGarrett each marrying a fashion designer/someone who later became a fashion designer is as interesting as the coincidence of the character of Danny in each version of the series (after the Pilot of the original version, anyway; James MacArthur was cast as Danny when the original went to series) being played by the second generation actor son of a legendary actor/actress, & parent & son then working together on an episode of their respective version of the show: H5O (Original)-- Danny was played by the late James MacArthur, who was the son of the legendary actress Helen Hayes & her husband, playwright Charles MacArthur; Helen Hayes played Danny's Aunt Clara, in Hawaii to visit her nephew, who enlists Five-O's help in determining what happened to the man who sat next to her on the flight to Hawaii, with whom she became friends, after he moved into a local retirement home in the H5O Original version 8th season episode "Retire in Sunny Hawaii... Forever". H50 (Reboot): Danny is played by Scott Caan, the son of the legendary actor James Caan & his then-wife, the late Sheila Ryan Caan; James Caan played retired NYPD cop turned Honolulu PI Tony Archer, who helps Five-0 investigate the murder of his best friend, a "shock jock" type of radio host who bought his own airtime & broadcast whenever he wanted & from wherever he wanted--such as offshore on a private boat/yacht, when he was murdered during his show--in a genre called "Pirate Radio" (which means broadcasts are done illegally, without a license). This was in the H50 Reboot's 2nd season episode "Lekiō (Radio)". I kinda like coincidences like this (or that Alex & Scott were born legally a day apart, but technically closer together than that/maybe on the same day, I think there's a timeframe of a few hours that make that work, because of Scott being born in LA, Alex being born in Canberra, Australia, & the whole "they were born on different sides of the International Dateline/there's a multi-hour time change between the 2 countries" thing; or there's also the coincidence of Michael Gross & the actress then named Meredith Baxter Birney [she later divorced & dropped the "Birney"] playing a married couple on Family Ties & being born on the exact same birthdate, all the way down to the year).
  10. There are fish & chips places in/near Hartford (I Googled). I just don't know how authentic any of them are.
  11. The actress cast as the Duchess of Cambridge doesn't look that much like her either. The face is wrong; I can't describe how, but it is. Also, in real life, the Duchess apparently has green/hazel eyes; it looks like the actress has brown eyes. The guy playing Prince William/the Duke of Cambridge, in my opinion, has too much hair on top (which is saying a lot), but I think it's closer to the real color than the hair of the guy playing Prince Harry. It also looks like he--the Prince William actor--has brown eyes; the real Prince William has blue eyes. The little girl who, I assume, is playing Princess Charlotte is too old looking (to me) to play a kid who's still not even age 3 as the real life wedding continues to be planned, & her hair is too dark brown, also a little too long, compared to the real Princess Charlotte (at least based on the pictures we saw of her that were released on her first day of nursery school--her hair seems to be a bit lighter brown in real life, & worn closer to barely shoulder length, than the hair of the actress who's playing her). The young actress' hair color does match/is close to that of the actress playing the Duchess of Cambridge, in my opinion (Princess Charlotte's hair color is said to really be closer to her mom's than her dad's), but it looks, in the pic Lifetime released, like the Princess Charlotte actress has brown eyes & Princess Charlotte really has blue eyes, like her dad, late Grandma Diana, Grandpa Prince Charles, & Uncle Prince Harry. While I'm not necessarily thrilled the little girl playing Princess Charlotte in the movie appears to be older in real life, I understand it was probably hard to cast her (& probably Prince George) properly, what with child labor laws mandating how child actors are treated on sets, how long they can work per day, etc. As for Prince George, that actor's probably the most physically similar to the real person he's playing. At least he has the accurate (or close enough to it) blond hair color (& the style's almost right, too) & he has the brown eyes of the real Prince George.
  12. I think her character was also the sort of girlfriend of Hugh Grant's weird roommate who told everybody that Julia Roberts' character was at his & Hugh Grant's characters' house.
  13. Interview with Sue Chipperton, who trains Eddie the dog, in Island Dog magazine. She's talking about working on the show & being Eddie's trainer. It's 4 pages long & starts on page 40, which is where the link should go to. Eddie's also their cover dog this issue. If you can't read the article as is, there's a "Zoom In/Zoom Out" slider, with a + on 1 side & a - on the other, towards the bottom right corner of the magazine pages.
  14. From CBS Watch! magazine (January/February 2018 issue): Getting to Know Meaghan Rath Really nice--in my opinion--interview with Meaghan.
  15. Yay! So glad you can use real Graham crackers with whichever type of s'mores you're doing (s'mores or the s'mores dip). I just found this webpage which says if (you're in the UK, or even if you're not, &) you need a substitute for Graham crackers, they suggest: 1. digestive biscuits & rich tea biscuits combined (but that wouldn't work if you needed a solid cracker, like for s'mores; it would work best, probably, if you were making, like, a Graham cracker crust, which uses cracker crumbs, for a cheesecake or something). 2. ginger biscuits (which I'm not sure works because the biscuit tastes like ginger & isn't plain/neutral tasting--you wanna be able to taste the chocolate & marshmallow &, at least to some extent, the Graham cracker, which should taste a little bit sweet because most are made with honey; I'd think the ginger in the ginger biscuits might overpower the rest of the flavors). 3. shortbread (not really knowing what digestive biscuits taste like--I think that's pretty much a UK thing--but knowing what the Lotus biscuits taste like; I love 'em, but don't think they're quite right for s'mores, I think the shortbread substitute would be my choice, because they can probably be found in a big enough size to hold the chocolate & marshmallow; they're everywhere in the UK, as far as I know, & they have a plain/neutral enough taste so as not to overpower any of the other important flavors). Oh... in case nobody else has mentioned it, the s'more apparently gets its name from people usually wanting more after they've had 1.

  17. Don't forget, before we were our own, independent, Republic we were as loyal subjects (for the most part, anyway) of His/Her Majesty as you are. Just saying.
  18. Cool. For some reason, I don't think the recipe links (first 2) are working right. I'm trying to fix that. If I don't get working links, just Google "oven s'mores recipe" &/or "s'mores dip recipe"--only without the quotes (LOL).
  19. If you can convert the oven temps from F to C, here's a whole page of recipes from Google oven s'mores recipe (Link is futzed & I can't get it unfutzed--just Google oven s'mores recipe). Or this might be easier/less intimidating: oven s'mores dip (This link is futzed too & I can't get it unfutzed either--just Google oven s'mores dip). You get the idea of s'mores, only this might be easier to do; the dip is the chocolate & marshmallow part & you dip the Graham crackers (or Graham cracker substitute) into it. This article (this link works) actually talks about someone (an American ex-pat, it turns out) trying to make s'mores in the UK. Apparently you have almost all the necessary ingredients available there, though you may not have the same brands that might be mentioned in any recipe from the US; EXCEPT you apparently don't have the Graham crackers there (unless things have changed since this article was written, I think it said, in 2009, or unless you have some sort of store which carries foods imported from the US & they might carry Graham crackers). If you can't find "the real deal", the article suggests substituting Lotus Caramelised Biscuits (though they apparently might need to be bigger, according to the author) or McVittie's Digestive Biscuits, which are big enough, but may not taste quite right compared to a s'more made with Graham crackers... Basically substitute anything you'd use to make a "Graham cracker crust" on a cheesecake, if you don't have real Graham crackers. The writer of the article thinks the Lotus Biscuits taste better (closer to a Graham cracker taste) than the McVittie's; there are also some who say the McVittie's taste close/are better too. If you're doing the dip, I suppose (if you can) you could get a package of Lotus biscuits & a package of McVittie's & let everyone try it with 1 or more of each biscuit or with whichever individual brand they like. Hope this helps, & you find a reasonable cracker substitute.
  20. I'm with you. Though I really don't have a problem with Her Majesty, my favorite British Royals didn't really come about until Diana did. And I like William & Harry, not the least of which is because they're her sons, & I like Kate--excuse me, Catherine--& Meghan, who isn't even an official Royal yet. And I admit I like Sarah most of the time. I'm glad, for her, they really can't keep her from being at her daughter Eugenie's wedding, even though she didn't get invited to William's & she doesn't get invited to a whole bunch of royal family stuff anymore; I think she's supposedly invited to either Harry & Meghan's wedding or their reception, but not necessarily both. It would've been fun if the Duchess had shown herself to be a "wingnut" (fan of the show) somehow when she & Allison met. But I suppose it's as big a no-no for William & Catherine to do stuff like that (especially since he's in line to be King someday--I mean, I suppose they have to try to exhibit a certain kind/amount of dignity, as such, even though they're also trying to remove some of the "stuffiness" from the monarchy) as it supposedly was for Allison to call the Duchess "honey". Not to mention for Allison to also meet the Duke & Duchess in her bare feet (which she apparently also did). I hope Allison wins the Oscar too. So far I think it looks like she may still be the frontrunner in the category; especially since she's won at least most (though not necessarily all) of the awards that are presented before the Oscars that they say are good indicators of an Oscar win, if those awards are also won (like the Golden Globe, the Screen Actors Guild Award, & the BAFTA, all of which Allison's won this "awards season"). Another of the nominees in Allison's category was thought to have a lock on the Oscar for the longest time; then I, Tonya was released, people with influence (or whatever) saw Alison's performance, & suddenly the original frontrunner has apparently been left in the dust & Allison apparently now either has a lock on the award or almost does.

  22. I don't mean to sound snotty (about them), but of course they are. I thought the point of a reboot, though, was to take the idea of your source material & update it from the original (like giving new H50 all the technological advances that had been made since the original & not keeping it set in the original era)/not make an exact copy of it. Which is exactly what they're doing in my opinion, among other things, by not casting an actor who looks like a carbon copy of (a younger) Tom Selleck as Magnum &, apparently, making the character of Higgins a female former MI6 agent in this version instead of a male former British war veteran, like the original, John Hillerman, version of Higgins wasn't. As I typed that last sentence it also occurred to me that, because she's female, the new version of Higgins probably wouldn't be named Jonathan Quayle Higgins III. I know they can circumvent having to use a first name, a lot, because Magnum, TC, & Rick all just called him "Higgins" for the most part--so the new Magnum, TC & Rick probably will/should be doing this too. But, as I remember there were times when Higgins referred to himself (in the 3rd person?) as "Jonathan Quayle Higgins III". If they're gonna have the new Higgins do that too, I'm not sure I'd expect a female to refer to herself as "Jonathan Quayle Higgins III" (though I suppose it'd be more possible now than when Selleck's version aired). At least Lenkov got away with keeping the name "Kono Kalākaua" in H50 when he did that gender swap. That worked, at least in my opinion, because it can be kinda hard telling what Hawaiian first names are for males & what Hawaiian first names are for females, or even what first names are "unisex" just by looking at them, without them being separated into "Male Names" lists & "Female Names" lists, or something like that, unless you're familiar with the Hawaiian language before you see a list that isn't already designated by gender. I'm not sure it would've been as easy if Lenkov had decided to gender swap Chin Ho Kelly instead of Kono. And let's face it, he probably damn well wasn't gonna gender swap either Steve or Danny. Heck, I thought Lenkov was taking a risk when I read his version of Danny would be a divorced cop from New Jersey who apparently (& begrudgingly as far as his attitude towards his ex-wife was concerned) moved to Hawaii so that he could maintain visitation & other contact with his daughter after the divorce. But, as far as I'm concerned, that version of Danny works. As I remember, the original Danny was supposed to have been from Hawaii. But that's really all I remember about him (& apparently all the original "creatives" wanted you to know about Danny--except, later on, we found out he had a kind of elderly Aunt Clara [who was played by James MacArthur's real life mother, the legendary actress Helen Hayes], who came to visit him from I don't know where on the Mainland & managed to get herself into some kind of trouble which she needed Five-O's help to get out of without being hurt or killed).
